'Places' feature acting up

Hey all.
In iPhoto '09, the Places feature seems to be working well enough — I've tagged most of my photos manually since I don't have a GPS-enabled camera. However, though the map view works, the column view doesn't. That's accessible by the little button next to the globe icon in the bottom left of the window. Rather than have 'Europe', 'France', 'Paris' and 'Eiffel Tower' columns, it has... nothing at all. Is this because photos only go in there if they have proper GPS co-ordinates?

I don't think so. I too don't have a GPS camera and have entered my own locations. My column views shows country, state, nearest city, and named_Location. However, only those locations for which I have already associated the "pin" with a photo appear. I have entered other locations for later use and these do not show up yet.

Places feature in iPhoto '09 superrr slow! Help!

I've got a very big problem. Places feature in iPhoto 09 is so slow. The thing is that I thought that this problem was caused by slow computer.... I previouslu owned iMac Core Duo. But now I bought the newest one... Alu Core 2 Duo 2.66GHz... And I'm still occuring this problem? Is it possible that there is some error with my library? I exported it from my previous system and selected it on my new Mac when I was starting iPhoto for the first time (with alt button). Can anyone help me? I would be grateful.

Just a few questions to get us started: When you say that you exported your library from your previous system did you copy/transfer the whole of the folder iPhoto Library to the new system without making any modifications to it? How many photos have you in your library? Are you using the same version of iPhoto? You might try some of the rebuild option available when restarting iPhoto while holding down alt and cmd.

Nikon P6000 and iPhoto 09's Places feature

Has anyone out there used the Nikon P6000's built in GPS features with iPhoto 09's Places feature? I am interested in buying the camera and wanted to know if there were others that have used the GPS features with iPhoto.

Photoshop CS5 "Drag&Drop Place" feature disable?

Photoshop CS5 now allows you to Drag and Drop files into your currently open document and place them as a "Smart" layer. This is quite a nifty feature, and I use it all the time for indesign, but i have grown so use to having Drag and Drop in photoshop simply open the dropped document, that i just cant shake the habit, and am constantly placing files that i simply wanted to open. Now Drag and Drop to open still works if you don't have any documents open or if you drag and drop over the menu bar area, but it's slightly less convenient.
I'd really like to just disable the Drag and Drop to Place, feature, but it would be nice if only placed a dropped file if you were holding down the control or alt key, otherwise it would just open it as normal.

I understand your issue, I got the same when upgraded to PS CS5 too, now I just got used to drag the files around the PS UI.
One thing (nor sure if you already know) is that you don't have to drag the file exactly in the menubar to open it instead of place,
you can drag anywhere in the UI that not inside a open doc tab, I drag mine into my layers panel, or any pter panel that is open
at the moment.

Tagging photos for the Places feature on iPhone

I have the iPhone 3GS, and the places features seems to be pretty neat. For the pictues that it doesnt assign to a place (not taken with a GPS enabled camera), how do you assign them to a place?
I have a PC and the tutorial on the website only shows how to do it on a MAC through iPhoto.

I'm trying to do exactly this using geotagger 2 and google earth. I can seem to tag the photos ok and if I open them in Preview and look at info then it shows a gps location, however when I sync my iphone the places info seems to just be and the newly tagged pics just dont appear as pins on the map at all.

Address book "places" feature Possible??

I would like to search my contacts list by location, on a map (similar to the "places" feature in iPhoto). For instance, if I am in Dallas on business, I'd like to be able to search for all contacts in my address book who have a Dallas address and map out ALL of them. This includes searches by zip code, area code, state, etc. I understand the address book is already paired with google maps and it's possible to map out a contact for driving directions etc, but that can only be done with ONE contact. I want to be able to see ALL of the contacts for a specific region. Possible??

Restore in place feature? OSX.6.3 running kinda rough

I think it is time to revitalize my OS, but I have not seen a clear route to "restore in place" on my Snow Leopard DVD. Any advice please? Mostly I am getting lots of quits in Photoshop CS5 products, 64 bit mode, tho I used to not have such problems with CS5 products in 64 bit mode.
I have run permissions regularly, scripts.
I have onyx but there are cleanings and sweeps I'm afraid to do.
I'm not excited about a clean install because reloading all my programs really takes a long time.
I had disk warrior and tech tool for previous systems, but I was hoping to side step the need for these on Show Leopard.
By the way, isn't OSX supposed to start up real fast? Sometimes I get 2 minutes+.

I do use SD. Can I just recover what is damaged with SD? Problem is, I think the damage is cloned too.
And actually I cannot access my Time Machine cuz the drivers for those eSATA back up drives are what bungled my system. But if I could, would I just recover "system"?

Places feature in 09 version

I don't know much about this to begin with but here it goes.
I don't currently have any geo tagged photos. There are some photos that I would like to put on a map in places. My question: By assigning a photo to a place in Iphoto 09, does that change the metadata of the photo, that is, does the place chosen on the map in the program (in lat and long) become part of the metadata of the photo?

I think it depends what you mean by "the metadata of the photograph." Metadata is stored in several places, including the photo file itself and the "iPhoto database" (an internal-to-iPhoto cache of photo properties).
I believe that when you add a "place" to a picture in iPhoto, this information is stored into the iPhoto database, but not the photo file. So, if you root around in the iPhoto library (i.e., using finder to look inside the one giant "file" in your "Pictures" folder), the picture files you find there will not contain geogtags (unless you added them yourself before importing into iPhoto). Likewise, if you just drag a picture out of iPhoto, it will not contain location information. (Double check me on these two points though!)
However, as LarryHN mentioned, if you use iPhoto's export command, it will (optionally, based on iPhoto preferences) include geotags in the exported file, based on the information in the iPhoto database.

IOS7 voiceover feature acts weird in Belgian Dutch

Since ios7 VO speaks an odd kind of Belgian Dutch, In iBooks it works well but in every other voice over apps like notepad or a kiosk's newspaper app, it sounds just odd, like a Polish imigrant . The VO makes mistakes like reading out loud accents in words without a reason, instead of using the correct vowel change for that accent. It also goes to lay strange emhasis on sylibles that should sound mute.
I use the VO feature intenstively to read books and luckily all my iBooks read correctly but reading newspapers can get very annoying. What could this be ?

Trouble with the Place feature

hello:
Illustrator has suddenly decided to Place images about about 1/4 their actual size.
I have gone into Preferences to look for a solution but I did not see anything there that seemed to be relative...
I have also checked the manual and used many key words but I only get results that tell me how to Place an image and nothing about what to do when they place at 1/4 the size.
I try dragging the box out but that does not work well either.
Can anyone tell me how to tell Illy that I want images placed at their full size?

The long list is as follows, the Cleaner part at the bottom.
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
Even more seriously, you may:
6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

Microsoft Exchange 2013 In Place feature

I set up a DC/Client Access/Mailbox for Mailbox database and another Server foe archive database. I enable archive all mailbox user and set retention policy 7 day for archiving. Next i increase time in client access server 7 days but mail not automatic archive.
User use outlook web log in cannot see any mail in archive folder.
I try start-managefolderassistant on client acces server but exchange shell result "Archive Mialbox is offline" and nothing in archive mailbox
Please help me how to make mail from inbox automatic archive.

Do you install Exchange server on DC?
It is not recommended to install Exchange server on DC.
Please run the following command to check result.
Get-Mailbox –Identity | fl *arch*
You mentioned you placed archive mailbox database on another server. If possible, please create a new mailbox
and enable a local archive mailbox, then apply retention policy to this mailbox to check result.

Feature Request: Destructive editing with AUs in Sample Editor

I would like to be able to apply edits destructively in the sample edit window with Audio Units like we could in Logic on MacOS9 (which used AudioSuite plugins). This is an ongoing request, year after year, among veteran Logic users. In every update it is ignored. The feature requires no redesign of the sample edit window, just another menu sub item droplist. While the bounce in place feature is a welcome addition, it is not a replacement for this feature that was removed in the migration to MacOSX and has been sorely missed ever since.
Here's just one recent sentiment from a user on the NYC Logic Users Group:
"I recently changed over to Logic from Pro Tools and I really miss this feature! For handling plosives and de-essing small fragments."
I also know a very prominent producer who boycotted Logic 8 and 9 for this reason alone. While I would never do that (since I happen to love all the new features and feel comfortable with the workflow of Logic 9), I sympathize with this person's frustration over the lack of this feature. I find myself constantly in the position of wishing I had destructive editing back in my Logic tool belt.

With all due respect, I personally cannot stand soundtrack. A lot of effort was put into the app that should have gone into Logic. As you allude to, I can trigger that Logic keystroke to open any sample editor, which is what I do. I just want the functionality back that was taken away from us many moons ago. I'm not looking for workarounds. This is just a simple feature request. But thank you for the suggestion.

Gps cameras that work automatically with places in iPhoto?

I'm looking to buy a new compact camera with gps. Does anybody know if there are any that work with the places feature automatically? i just want to be able to plug the camera in and have places work without needing 3rd party software/plugins to convert the information first.

There are several - I use Sony and have an Alpha A55 and a DSC HX5V - both work perfectly (note that any GPS takes time to acquire a signal so sometimes photos get the wrong location - your previous location - and have to be corrected in iPhoto)
and both of our iPhones add GPS of course (sometimes that is helpful in correct locations from teh camera - because of the WiFi and 3G in addition to GPS the phone is usually quicker to acquire the correct location)
In general any GPS enabled camera shoudl work just fine

GPS location on iPhone 4 pics does not displaying in iPhoto Places

I recently upgraded to an iPhone 4, and I noticed that the pictures I've taken do not seem to contain GPS location information. I was hoping to use them to geotag my pictures and access them via iPhoto Places feature, but they do not have any location info. I have turned "On" location services for the camera.

Problem solved - the information was not transferred with the photos when I uploaded them to Dropbox via PhotoSync app and then downloaded them to my iMac. Not sure where the info got dropped, but it was in the original files so I was able to recover it.
