Places location labels not accurate
I have been busy geotagging my photos using Places, but am realising now that the black bubble name is not acurately reflecting the pins geo location. For example I think I must have entered a custom name for a place entitled "whitechappel road market" (I deduce this because its all in lower case), I have a picture bearing these co-ordinates:
Lat: 56.946003°N
Lon: 2.197094°W
This picture is in Scotland but the black label says it "whitechappel road market" which is in London! This should not be happening and its my guess that its a bug and that the name used for the black label should be the closest road available.

I find that a good many images are being mislabelled like this, even ones next to other which are labelled correctly e.g. "Kew" (Kew Gardens, London), some have Kew in their black pop-up box while one or two have "whitechappel road market" ~is this because I added it as a custom label and Aperture 3 is confused?

I also get this problem with images that already contained GPS co-ordinates which bear the "whitechappel road market" black pop-up label.
*I have "repaired" my library but its still the same issue*
P.S. is there any way to edit the labels I have added manually, like I can manage my Keywords, I would like to have the same ability for Places, there's some custom stuff I want removed.
okay, okay... I found Manage My Places in the Metadata menu. Sorry about that, I thought I looked everywhere.

Location Services not accurate!
So I'm using my iPod 4 as I would usually do and I go on to maps to see what hotels are near me so a relative can stay for a few weeks. My iPod old me I was in Ealing, London when I was in Wigan, Lancashire. It would have been ok if it told me I was in Manchester or something but this is over 200 miles away! I'm a bit doubtful of whether it is a problem with the iPod itself or not, however. Still, if anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Apple must be aware of this problem for a number of their customers, but there is absolutely no help from that direction - shame on them. If you try to contact them, they require payment before they will respond! Is there anyone out there (including Apple staff) who can give a simple and effective solution? lease help!

Computer location is not accurate
My Macbook Pro's location continues to default to some place called "Conway, Illinois". It should be Seattle, WA. I have a solid internet connection and my computer can be found on "Find My Mac". What's it take to get Location Services to work?

The Apple database to be updated to reflect the correct location of your nearby WiFi access points.
That is apparently done automatically by iPhones and iPads that are connected to cellular networks, can see those same access points in their WiFi, and the devices are set to send location information to Apple.
Your Mac doesn't have a GPS nor can it connect to a cellular network, so it must rely on the known locations of WiFi access points. Apparently, one of the Access Points that it sees was last recorded as being in Conway, Illinois. -
Imessage location service not accurate
i keep my location service on indefinitely but my phone is always charged. I forgot to charge it a few days ago and when it died the location showed I was somewhere completely different then where I was. Has this happened to anyone? What causes that?

In fact we(me & my friends) have problems to locate each others using the application "find my friends"cz the app allows access to the location only when USING IT or one of its features is VISIBLE ON SCREEN,and not when it's on the background. Therefore the location of any of my friends,shown by the app,isn't his real location,but it's his last location using the app or its features,even if it (the application) was on his background.
At other application like GLYMPSE ,the locations are so accurate cz the app allows access to our location even if it's on the background.I am so frustrated with the location service on my iPod-touch. Location found is not accurate.
Location found is not accurate. It appears to be several blocks off. This is in a large city. Why would this happen?
Depends on the device. If it relies on wifi, then the router must be properly "registered" with its location in order to have the device located. The router's location may be off. If the device has GPS then the location should be accurate, although at times my location is a little off when my iPhone is travelling.

When I import my photos from my iPhone 4S into iPhoto the location does not appear. I have to open the info button on the photo click "photo place" then "find on map" and then the location appears. How to I get the location to appear automatically when I import my photos from my iPhone?
in your iPhoto preferences is look up location set to "automaticaly"?

Lightroom 4.0 Lat/Long not accurate enough
The latitude and longitude conversion in LR 4.0 map is not very accurate. I plan to use this feature extensively and right now the accuracy is marginal.
I enclose a screen shot that shows the problem. The first point is labelled: "Placed at right location in Google Earth". This point was placed in GE
exactly on that spot. Its coordinates are: 42.601830, -5.581437. The second point is labelled "Same location converted from LR 4.0". I placed that
point in LR 4.0 at the exact same location as the first point. LR marked that position as: 42°36'7" N 5°34'53" W which I hand-converted to
42.60194444, -5.58138888. The second arrow to the NE of the first is placed at that location. Close but no cigar. That makes your photo placement
feature in LR 4.0 not accurate enough for many uses. I have a KMZ that shows all this but I couldn't figure out how to submit it.
I'm glad to have the chance to use LR 4.0 which I like. I use LR all day long and have for years.

It appears that LR 4 beta uses the Google Maps API to reverse geocode the original GPS location to the nearest named entity, such as a street address, and then uses the location of that entity to tag the photo, rather than the original GPS location.
In your example, this is what Google Maps shows when you search for 42.601830, -5.581437:
The green arrow is the exact location, and the red "A" is the nearest named entity, Plaza de San Marcos, 4. When you search for that GPS location in LR 4, it shows the location of the named entity (the red "A" above), rather than the original GPS location: -
Instagram location tag not tagging the correct location
Hello,
i noticed that when I tag the location of my photo, it finds the location but does not tag the correct location that everyone else is tagging in. it would be considered re same location and the only tag available, but when I look at the location after I post my photo, my photo will be the only one there.
please help me change this!
THank you!My GPS location is about a block or more off when I am inside a building. It is more accurate when I am outside. The thing is my non GPS map location was more accurate all the time.

I tried running the locate duplicates in Address Book but it found nothing. The fact is I have over 1,000 duplicates (ongoing problem).
Running 10.7.3 btw.Funny, I'm seeing the same thing. Before updating to 2.0, my 32gb touch was able to identify the location of my office (in Center City Philadelphia) within a block. After the update, Google maps just gives me the spinning wheel forever. Before the update, if it couldn't figure out my location, it would time out after a minute or so with a message "Your location could not be determined". That never seems to happen in the 2.0 software. Yes, I have enabled location services.
It is a little annoying in some applications, "MyWeather" for example. It defaults to the weather in your current location, and it seems to consider that to be the most recent place where it was able to locate me. So every time I run that app, it assumes I'm still somewhere I was two weeks ago when location services actually worked! -
How can I locate lost notes on my iPad or MacBook?
After upgrading iPad and finding notes in my Yahoo folder I deleted what was in Yahoo. I never asked or agreed to this placement. Now I cannot locate the notes in the Yahoo or desk top trash bin.
Did you delete the pics, or you just can't find them on your iPad?
If you deleted them, they are gone as there is no Trash Can or Recycke Bin. If you have a backup, retrieve the pics from your backup.

I was unable to get the Locate Me to work in the Google Map app (well and other location based apps as well for that matter)
It just keeps on spinning and no location is ever found (shows the last map I looked at) - re-boot did not help.

Every time I open the map I found that the position located is very not accurate. The problem exists no matter what positioning method I used (bluetooth GPS, AGPS, integrated GPS), and they all have the same WRONG position. When I connect my N82 to a bluetooth GPS, the position is not accurate, there is an about 10 meters mistake between the position it located and the actually position. But when I connect the same bluetooth GPS to my another PDA and use the same map application, it works fine and very accurate. The inaccurate position problem just happened to my N82. Does anyone get the same problem?
Most commercially-available sat-nav systems are described in manufacturer small print as having positioning "accurate to within 20-50 metres" (different companies make different claims about the exact distance), so the statements above are correct but they aren't actually faults.
Remember also that a the a GPS system isn't connected to the same satellites all of the time, even a 12-channel system picking up between six and eight satellites on average will drop out of view of some satellites and into the range of others, so it is constantly recalculating its position from different data. If you are getting signals from less satellites, the 'jumps' become more noticable because the position is being calculated from less data. -
Timer Class not accurate and slows down my animation!?

xfoI'm (being lazy and) using the older RT app posted on your last thread. I removed the
TimeNow timer from the RT class and used System.currentTimeMillis (as you requested) to
determine the elapsed time during the animation (see "startTest", "stop" and
"movingObject" methods). Also changed the DecimalFormat to NumberFormat and set the
"maximumFractionDigits" to "2" so it will truncate the fraction to two digits (more simple
than before). Made arrangements for the ShapeMovingPanel class to update the
"timerJTextField" during the animation (RT.updateTime method).
The MouseMotionListener is causing the animation to appear jerky and uneven. The
"mouseMoved" method is very busy while the mouse is moving. You might consider recording
the "mousePressed" events instead of the "mouseMoved" events, ie, the events where the user
is attempting to click inside the moving shape. It would allow the app to be more
responsive and might eliminate the uneven motion of the animating shape.
