Places theme in iPhoto '11 slideshow

Is it possible to change the scale of a map under the "places" theme in the iPhoto '11 slideshow?
On my slideshow the maps are too detailed and I want to be able to show a more zoomed out view.

I have the same problem... hope someone can answer

  • Bridge is opening all of my RAW files as jpegs when I import them from iPhoto

I have set my iPhoto preferences to send my RAW photos as RAW when using an external editor. If I only use ACR, this works fine, but if I want to use CS4 they are all coming over as jpegs and I then have to work w them as jpegs. I have PSE 8 . Do I have to do something before I open CS4 to have them come over in RAW format?

Not Very familiar with iPhoto but I think you do confuse two approaches for
your files. If you choose to work from iPhoto it takes the originals but
when using Bridge it might be an exported version in jpeg.
If you have PSE 8 with Bridge CS4 I would suggest you make a choice in
workflow and use Bridge as starting point. You can import your Raw files in
Bridge using Photodownloader (get photo's from Camera in Bridge) preferable
use a card reader for this.
And/or copy the older original Raw files to a new folder.
You can find the originals that have been imported using iPhoto in the
picture folder/iphoto library. Click on the icon and with right mouse click
choose show package content. In this new window you will see a file called
originals with subfolders. Inhere find the ones you want and copy them to a
new folder from your choice (either in the picture folder or elsewhere, but
obvious not in the package window for iPhoto, you won't see them after you
    closed the package content window...)
Choose copy because in this way your iPhoto library and folder structure
    stays as it is.
Now point Bridge to the folder with this copied files and let it cache the
    files first (takes some time).
With this workflow you can manage your Raw files (rate, rename, adding
metadata and keywords etc.) and develop them in ACR and PSE. If you do want
to use the album structure from iPhoto you can choose to save your developed
files either as jpeg or tiff and place them in iPhoto.
It might be a better workaround because iPhoto is not the best application
to handle and develop Raw files, you have a lot more options in Bridge and
    PSE

  • Iphoto 9.6.1 Slideshow Places Theme randomly reordering photos - not sure why?

I've manually reordered photos in Library based on location (and manually assigned gps location in info).
After creating slideshow, when I choose 'Places' theme it seems to randomly reorder photos - not just into 'places' order.
    Help!
Also, when I use export - the option of creating a quicktime movie seems to have disappeared (custom option gone).
    Cheers

    Alternatives to iPhoto's slideshow include:
iMovie is on every Mac sold.
    Others, in order of price:
    PhotoToMovie  $49.95
    PulpMotion  $129
    FotoMagico $99
    Final Cut Pro X $299
It's difficult to compare these apps. They have differences in capability - some are driven off templates. some aren't. Some have a wider variety of transitions. Others will have excellent audio controls. It's worth checking them out to see what meets your needs. However, there is no doubt that Final Cut Pro X is the most capable app of them all. • Order and group images in slideshow with Places theme

    Hi,
I'm getting realy comfused in the slideshow feature of iPhoto 11
I try to get a slideshow using the Places theme (the one with the maps).
Two things that really upset me:
    - how can I order the pictures, group them instead of having them automatically arranged by time. I may want to group two trips to the same place that took place at two different dates, without having other pictures in between.
If I drag the pictures to the new place, iPhoto automatically adds a new map title, I don't want that
    - how can I increase the range of the locations. For example, I want all pictures taken in Portland appear in a Portland map section, I don't want it to then cut all pictures into 14 different sections of the town since I moved around taking pictures. For me it's still one unique event and one unique place.
Can I force it to group everything within a range of, say, 50 miles, to be shown as one unique place?
In a few words, what I try to achieve:
1- organize the pictures the way I want (timewise)
2- groups them into places I control.
Thanks for any help. Without those two controls, this slideshow is unfortunatelly 100% useless to me.
    Steve

Sorry about the slide legends -  I wouldn't have suggested changing themes if I realized you had those.
I'm not sure why that didn't work for you, it does for me, and yes there is a setting in iPhoto preferences to turn off automatic place look up (I'm not sure it would help here, I think that primarily happens when you import photos). And ivansky makes an excellent point - there's a lot of information about this in the "Help" menu - including how to "fine tune" a location to cover a larger or smaller area:
    To manage your places:
You can edit and delete the locations you have personalized.
Choose Window > Manage My Places. The Manage My Places dialog appears, showing all the personalized places that are assigned to your photos.
    Do one of the following:
To change a place name, click it and type the name you want into the field. From now on, this changed location appears in the Information pane as an option when you’re adding locations to photos or Events.
To fine-tune a location on the map, use the plus and minus buttons (in the bottom-left corner of the map) to zoom in or out of the map. You can drag the map to move it around and drag the pin to a more exact location. You can also drag the vicinity circle larger or smaller, depending on how specific you want the location to be.
To delete a location, click the minus sign to the right of the place name.If there are photos associated with this location name, a message appears, asking you to confirm. Click the “Delete place” button.
When you’re finished, click the Done button.

Whenever I try to open iPhoto, a message comes up saying that 148 photos have been found in the iPhoto Library that have not been imported. It asks me if I want to import them and I say NO but then it places them in a recovered photo folder. I keep deleting the empty recovered photo files but it just keeps asking me every time I go to open iPhoto! I'd love to just get rid of the "found" photos (I can't open them anyway!)
How do I get rid of them so that I can just open iPhoto straight up without this?
    Linda

Open your iPhoto Library package with the Finder.
look for a folder titled Import or Importing and move it to the Desktop. Launch iPhoto to see if the message goes away.  If there is no message  check the contents of the Import folder to see if you want to keep any of those image files (usually they have not been imported into iPhoto). If you want to keep them then drag the folder into the open iPhoto window to import.

  • Adding new Slideshow themes to iPhoto 11

    There are only 12 themes.
I like some but not entirely and feel limited.
For example, 'Vintage Prints' theme doesn't show in full color, only mono tone. And the b/w choice that is provides isn't really pure b/w. Mine shows a partially screened color image. I really like the theme but would like my photos in its full color.
A new color theme with the same background theme and transitions would be nice.
Another example is 'Shatter' , it only shows photos in landscape orientation. It would auto crop the top and bottom parts of a portrait oriented photo to fit the screen.
In all, the transitions are nice, but I wish there were some basic choices such as color. If they could provide it for 'Vintage Prints' I don't see why the others could not also have some basic color choices. For example, we could choose a blue, green, red, or b/w tint for 'Scapbook' instead of being stuck with a yellow tone.
So this led me to wonder if there are plug-ins or add-ons to the out of the box 12 themes.
If anyone know how to increase the choices, please share it with me. Thank you.
    Mike

No, there are no add-on themes and the themes are fixed.

  • BUG: iPhoto 9 Slideshow - Text Slide Bugs and iPhoto Library Corruption

I was wondering if anyone else has run into the following issues:
I have had multiple issues with iPhoto crashing, stop responding, and database corruption where I cannot open iPhoto. These issues all began when I tried to use the new themed slideshow in iPhoto v9.1. Previously, I had only used iPhoto to create basic slideshows with iPhoto v7.x. I was hoping that I would be able to create my masterpiece in iPhoto 11 (v9.1) but I have only been frustrated by my attempts so far.
What should have been a 3 - 4 hour operation has become a 20 hour nightmare and I still don't have a slideshow to show for my efforts. This has been one of my most disappointing uses of Apple software ever.
Repeatable, reproducible bugs that I have run into include:
    1. Deleting a photo that appears in the timeline before a sub-title causes havoc with subsequent sub-titles (a.k.a. Text Slides). Subsequent subtitles are randomly copied to pictures following the one it was assigned to. Further, there is no subtitle icon in the timeline and the photos have to be manually modified to eliminate the subtitle. Work around is click the "Text Slide" button
    2. Zooming and/or image placement is not preserved and not visible when previewed, exported, or iPhoto is closed and then reopened.
    3. The iPhoto Library becomes corrupt and permissions problems prevent me from working with my photos. This happens while working on slideshow. I have had to rebuild my library and repair permissions no less than five times since I started working on my slideshow.

iPhoto's slideshow feature is fine but no tool for a "masterpiece".
    Alternatives to iPhoto's slideshow include:
iMovie, on every Mac sold, as is iDVD.

  • Unable to import IPhoto 6 slideshows to IDVD 6

When I try to send a SLIDESHOW with captions and music prepared in iPhoto 6 to IDVD to burn to a DVD by choosing Share>Send to IDVD i get the following message "An error occured while exporting the slideshow, the export movie file could not be created". This is inconsistent with the statement in iDVD Help Tutorial "In iPhoto send SLIDESHOWS directly to iDVD to create a project with slideshow buttons". What am I doing wrong?

you may be using a file format iDVD doesn't recognize (or you may have a corrupted image/file) hard to tell without seeing what you are currently working on. try the file again, or use a different image in it's place.
if this too fails then drag and drop the plist for both apps to the trash (empty it) and restart the computer.
    com.apple.iPhoto.plist
    com.apple.iDvd.plist
Use the Finder (happy face on the dock) plus copy and paste for the above items (individually) and hit return.
In the event you see either item appear more than once, dispose of all of them.
    Good luck!

  • Text Slides in Places theme - how to delete?

I'm using iPhoto '11 and the Places theme. For some odd reason when I rearrange photos (sequence) the tool inserts a new Text Slide. I don't know why it is creating new Text Slides - do you?
I can't figure out how to delete an existing Text Slide - help?
The Text Slide tool (lower right bar) is grayed out - why?
When switching themes the tool changes the sequence of slides - why?
If I change the theme the text slide are removed - but then when I resequenced the photos the text slides get magically inserted - its a mystery.

I'm not a user of the Places (Location) feature of iPhoto but the text slides are associated with any photo in the slideshow that has a location associated with it. So possibly if you move a photo in the sequence it might be due to the fact that another title/places slide needs to get created since it was moved. I'm guessing here. Do you notice if a title slide gets removed when the photo is repositioned at the same time the new slide is created?

I have 1000 photos on my iPhone in Photo Stream... all have already been added to iPhoto.  If I delete the photos in Photo Stream on my iPhone will I lose them on iPhoto??

Its the first time ive used iphoto, hence the vast number of photos i needed to import. I was importing from my phone to my macbook iphoto, my son caught the usb connection during the time when iphoto was deleting from the phone, after it had apparently imported all of the photos but none of them are on iphoto and only 195 are still on my phone.
The problem is not deleting them but finding them all?
Sorry ive typed this in the wrong place now cant delete it - if anyone can help with my problem however i would appreciate it!

  • IPhoto 9 Slideshow Quality

    Hi
I have a MacBook Pro 13,3" with iLife 11 and Nikon Picture Project .
and I have many photos that were improted from a Nikon Camera.
When I see the photo in the slideshow mode in iPhoto the Photo does not have a good quality .
If I see the same Photo with Picture Project the result is better,I can see details that iPhoto can not show.
I dont use the export functions .
Is there a solution for this problem ?
    Thanks

In iPhoto, when you play a slideshow it's showing you the actual photos.
After export , you're watching a movie made from these images. The process of exporting to a movie necessarily involves compression. Even HD export is still about 2 MP range. If you're shooting 6, 10, 12 or more MP images there is an inevitable loss of data. The enormous stills from your camera are being squeezed down into HDTV quality. It's even worse if you try export for a DVD. TV avoids this by not shooting such high quality images.
So, what you can try is use another app and one that has different algorithms for this process. Frankly, it'll be a process of trial and error to find the one that works best for your images.
    Alternatives to iPhoto's slideshow include:
iMovie is on every Mac sold. It's worth a try, though it only has the same export options as iPhoto now. Older versions had more.

  • IPhone video H.264 will not play in iPhoto '11 Slideshow

    Hello,
I use iPhoto to organize videos and .jpgs; I take videos both with a Sony camera and my iPhone. I often trim videos in iPhoto and then play them as part of a Event or Album, along with .jpgs, using the SlideShow feature before moving on to iMovie or Keynote. Recently I have encountered difficulties with iPhone H.264 videos, particularly in vertical format -- they simply won't play in the iPhoto simple SlideShow and lock it up (a simple X then ends the SlideShow and iPhoto is no longer locked). The vertical iPhone videos work in iMovie if I simply move them there. I have not detected any problems with the Sony videos, which are invariably horizontal. I am not experiencing any other iPhoto issues although my library is >125GB.
         Any Suggestions?
        Thanks for your thoughts.

    léonie,
         @#$^$%^ Computers!
After I realized I could not determine the frame rate (to respond to your post), out of frustration I went back, restored the most troublesome video to original, closed iPhoto, re-opened iPhoto, re-trimed the troublesome video, and .... yep, you guessed it .... it worked fine. It had to be something in the trim process.
I haven't taken time to check the others that were problematic, but I'm confident that was the problem.
@#% how much of my time; how much of your time.....but, still far better than the years I spent watching a rotating hourglass.
Thanks for your interest, your offer to help, and my best to you. (And, my apologies for failing to include the accent grave in your name previously.

  • Ordering of photos in iPhoto 11 slideshows

A few years ago while using iPhoto 09 I made several slideshows from albums where I had manually arranged the photos.  I simply selected all the photos in the album and created a new slideshow from that album and the order of images was retained exactly.  Now I am using iPhoto 11 on MAC OS X 10.6.8 and the images get all rearranged once I add them to an existing slideshow or create a new slideshow from the album.  I am able to move them back into order but it is highly inconvenient compared to how easy it is to arrange the images in an album.  Additionally, the "View" options are all disabled and greyed out on the menu bar.
Am I doing something wrong, or did iPhoto 11 lose some functionality that iPhoto 09 had?
    Thanks.

  • Places themes in Aperture have disappeared..anyone know why?

I love the ability to document my travels with the Places themes in Slideshow, but that option has disappeared from the list of options when creating a new slide show...and has removed all of the Places maps from the earlier slideshows I'd previously created.

Hmm, on my mac the "Places" Theme is still there and working.
It is installed in the System Library.
    /Library/Application Support/iLifeSlideshow/v2/Styles/Places.mrbStyle/
If you look in your System Library at /Library/Application Support/iLifeSlideshow/ - do you still see the additional themes in the "v2" folder?
Can you use any of the "v2" themes - Origami, Holiday Mobile?
If those themes are missing in your library, try to reinstall them from your backup.
