Placing a lot of images

Hi! I need help in placing a lot of images (about 1000 pcs) in InDesign. I tried from Bridge and inDesign will load the images in the computer memory as seen in the mouse cursor but you need to click one by one on the document. I would like to automatically place all my images and create pages for me and very important to maintain its original size. I also tried dragging the mouse and create columns (by pressing the arrow keys) but it does not maintain the original size of the images.
Thank you very much for your help!

I have discovered the 'ImageCatalog' from the scripts panel. You can place all images in a folder. On the ImageCatalog dialog box, I have unchecked the Proportional and Frame to Content option to place the images in 100%. Now, I am looking for a way to expand all the graphic frames to reveal all the images it placed on the document automatic or by script. You can reveal the whole image by double-clicking on the bottom-right handle but it would take a lot of time if you do this one by one. I need help on how to automate the expansion of the frames.
Let me know. Thank you very much.

  • Xorg crashes when Firefox loads a lot of images; Intel driver bug?

    For some time now I'm seeing a weird error. Basically, when I load a *lot* of images in Firefox, Xorg crashes completely. In Xorg logfile I can see the following error:

    I have an Intel GMA 945 and I'm using x586-video-intel and intel-dri.
    It is interesting to see that these crashes happen as soon as the total memory used by Linux approaches/reaches my physical memory size of 2 GB. I should note that I have an SSD - so I do not use swap. With total memory used I mean memory that programs use plus cached memory, so my memory isn't actually "full" since the kernel could just free some cached memory to accommodate the memory Firefox needs. But this is not what happens: as soon as all of the memory is used, Xorg crashes in this scenario. I can prolong the time of crash by manually freeing the cached memory before, but again, as soon as the memory that "free -m" reports as used approaches my physical limit of 2 GB, I get a crash.
    Note that this is not an OOM Killer issue. OOM Killer doesn't do anything (and it shouldn't: the cached memory is available to the system, after all).
    I'm willing to test out any suggestions. My guess is that there is a bug in the intel driver but I rather be sure beforehand.

  • I updated from Windows 8.0 to Windows 8.1 and ever since Firefox has run somewhat strangely. In particular when on sites with a lot of images like Facebook,etc

    Hello, I am writing as I am experiencing some issues with my favorite web browser after updating to Windows 8.1. Here are some details. I updated from Windows 8.0 to Windows 8.1 and ever since Firefox has run somewhat strangely. In particular when on sites with a lot of images like Facebook. It is like there is some kind of Flikr effect between the desktop and the images and between the images and the browser (almost like old 16 bit video games flikering). It is not too bad but it is an issue. I have tried resetting firefox and restarting the computer. I haven't tried a repair, and I haven't done an uninstall yet.

    thank you for helping, the issue seems to have been caused by the hardware accelerator

  • Placing more than one images in one container (was: InDesign)

    Hi,
    I'm new to inDesign. Can anybody help me placing more than one images in one container like rectangle in which I can get coordinates of the different grphics/images with reference to the container not document page.
    Thanks and best regards
    Sal

    I´n not quite sure what you are trying to do but I´m afraid it´s not possible in InDesign. Coordinates are always referencing the page, or actually the origin which is usually on the top-left corner of the page.
    If you just want a single frame for multiple images, you could try to use paste into command. Group your images and Edit > Cut. Draw an empty rectange, select it and Edit > Paste Into. Now you have your group of images inside that one frame and they shouls act like one image if you for instance scale your frame....

  • How to load lots of images synchronously

    HI all,
    I want to cache lots of images locally with URLLoader and need to know those fails. I can add listener to event IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR.
    A variable can be used to save the file name I want to load last time. Then in the error handler I can know which file is not loaded correctly.
    However, since images are loaded asynchronously, which is how URLLoader works, the firstly loaded image may not the firstly completed. That means the variable may contain incorrect file name.
    Is there a better way to approach? I just want to log the error loadings.
    Regards,
    Felix

    You can load Image one by one so when one finishes or load successfully you can trigger the load on the next one. How are you loading multiple images anyway you using a bulk loader class or multiple url loaders?

  • IPhone status is Updated just now but a lot of images are grey placeholders

    Good part: I have a big library (~50K photos and ~1K videos). Switched to iCloud Photos on all my macs, work ok, took several days to upload everything but look good.
    Bad part: on my iPhone I also enabled iCloud Photos Library (optimized storage), for some time it was showing "Preparing...",  then "Downloading..." but now it says "Updated just now", like it's done. But the problem is that a lot of images are just grey placeholders and convert to an image only when I open specific Moment and wait there. Also, the phone shows spinner at the top all the time, like it's downloading something. And the things spinning both in Wi-Fi and  LTE.
    It looks like the Photos app on iPhones continues downloading, while system preferences status says it's all good.
    This is how it looks, to make it clear - status is "Updated just now", but there are a lot of empty placeholders.
    Any comments?

    If add-ons are so important to you, remember to check for add-on compatibility before upgrading. (See image below)
    Bookmark your add-ons pages (addons.mozilla.org) and check their compatibility before upgrading Firefox.
    The other option is to [[Install an older version of Firefox]] compatible with your add-ons.
    Also read:
    * [[Re-enable add-ons that were disabled when updating Firefox]]
    * [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/update-firefox-latest-version?esab=a&s=configure+update&r=2&as=s#w_how-do-i-configure-update-20optionssf21preferencessf How do I configure update options?]
    Keep in mind that other browsers have updates too, which may or may not break their add-on compatibility.

  • Best way to store a lot of image files??

    I am working on a new project which involve user upload image to server and then do searching and view image. there will be a lot of image files. image will be displayed in web page as thumbnails, so there may be resized pic stored in server or resize on the fly.
    What is the best way to store image like this? as files in file system? database? etc...?
    Thank you very much

    Since seraching is invloved use a database. A file system is not good place to search in.
    Using a database will allow you to store additional data as well such as comments about the images or the ratings given by the users.
    Of course you will have to develop a propper table structure for this.
    Also do not generate thumbnails all the time instead cache them once they are created. Atleast the thumbnails of the images that are displayed often.
    Also store the last updted dates with the images so you can loow the images to be cached by the clients or the proxy server. That will reduce repatitive requests for the same image from same client.

  • Pages with lots of images "jam" Firefox

    Whenever I try to open a page that has lots of images, it only load partially before Firefox becomes completely unable to load webpages until I restart Firefox. I have already created a clean profile and reinstalled Firefox.

    I haven't gotten around to installing antivirus (or anything else, for that matter).
    If I watch in Task Manager, Firefox.exe goes to 100% as soon as I load the page.
    And no, that guide didn't help much. I don't have any addons or plugins yet, this is a new install.
    I got a huge slowdown a bit ago, it's because it was using almost 1.5GB of RAM o_o

  • Why after "placing" a PS CC image in ID CC can't I open it in PS CC (while still in ID) to make some

    Why after "placing" a PS CC image in ID CC can't I open it in PS CC (while still in ID) to make some corrections by double clicking and holding down the alt button?

    Hi,
    For Photoshop CC to open up by default on double clicking on an image (with Alt key pressed), Photoshop CC should be the default application to open the image file. Right click on image file on your system and select Get Info. In the "Open with:" field select Photoshop CC and click on Change All button just beneath it.
    Now try double clicking on any image(with Alt key pressed) placed in InDesign , it should open in Photoshop. Please let me know if this works for you or not.

  • Best way to store image? will be a lot of image files

    Hi,
    When you are asking about the "best method for BDB", you should first read this: http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/berkeley-db/db/ref/am_conf/select.html
    When you know exactly what are the differences between the BDB access methods, then you will be able to figure out which is the best method for your requirements or to ask a more specific question.
    Regarding the second problem, you should read about isolation and degrees of isolation: http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/berkeley-db/db/ref/transapp/inc.html

  • How to recover lots of images files placed in the trash

    Hello, I've made a huge mistake. I've run an Automator script that has placed all my image files in the trash. I've not empty the trash yet. Does anyone have an idea on how to easily recover these files ? I've got around 4,000 files....
    Thanks a lot for your answers.

    Are you using iPhoto 6?
    If you are, go into iPhoto and set the view and sort to Film Rolls, then use iPhoto as a guide for determining the proper roll for each file.
    The structure of the Originals, Data (thumbnails), and Modified folders under iPhotoLibrary in iPhoto 6 are all Year/Roll/Picture. So, to recreate the links, you need to put each picture back into it's proper roll.
    If that's too daunting a task, you can start over, and reimport those files that were moved-maybe creating a new iPhoto Library first (hold Option while opening the app)- but this will not carry any organization that you may have had originally.
    If you're using an earlier version of iPhoto (4 or 5) the pics were organized by date - Year/Month/Day/Picture - so it may be a bit more of a hassle to fix.

  • How do I scale a lot of images using CSS in HTML5 and CSS3

    I have a CSS image gallery that displays a larger photo with descriptive text below it, when a thumbnail image is hovered on.
    Each photo has code like that following:
    <a class="thumbnail" >
    <img src="thumbs1/paradethumbs/DSC_0073.jpg" alt="thumbnail picture" />
    <span><img src="pics1/paradepics/DSC_0073.jpg" alt=" " /><br /> 19 - a black faced sheep.</span>
    </a>
    The first source is a thumbnail,  image stored at a size of 72 by 48.
    The second source is an image stored at 600 x 400.
    When the thunbnail is hovered on, the larger photo is displayed at its full size using css.
    There are 20 or so thumbnails in this gallery, and different numbers in other galleries that use the same code.
    The example above is number 19 from 20.
    This works fine on tablets and larger displays.
    When I wish to show it on an Iphone or similar, with a display that is 480 or less wide, I need to scale the larger photo down to 300 wide.
    As the Iphone will have a lower quality of image than a larger display, it will not matter too much if the 600x400 photo is scaled down, and having tried it by giving it an ID with CSS like
    #imagescale{ width:300px; } it looks acceptable. However, as IDs are supposed to be unique, then thats a no go area for the remaining photos.
    My problem is how do I select the second image source shown in bold above, and scale it and the span text by 50%.
    The text is not too important as it can be changed to fit - the image is the main problem.
    I need someting like "if the display is less than 600 and the image is in the pics directory, display it at 300 wide".
    The browser will hopefully  take care of the height.
    Any suggestiosn would be appreciated.

    Thanks Nancy. The general idea and the link to the article helped a lot.
    However, the css using using a percentage had unpredictable results when selecting repeated images.
    The first one scales to 50% and then the next scales to 50% of the last one (25%)  and so on ad infinitum, unless you click on another object that is not an image.
    Using a pixel size like 280px rather than a percentage did the trick, but it also involved changing lots of other items before I could get everything to fit.
    Now I have a better knowledge of media queries and how to set them up.
    Best of all, all my image galleries work fine just using css and html. Never thought that would happen.
    Take five stars!
    And the same to David Powers for his great article.

  • After transfer to new mac lots of image not supported!

    Hello all.
    I have just tranferred to a new imac and copied over my aperture folder.
    In one particular project as I click on each image the image breifly shows then appears to currpot and is replaced with a black box saying its unsupported.
    they are from a nikon D50 which I believe we supported from the first aperture release.
    Further more a lot of the image thumbnails, are showing at 90 degrees and distorted. Selecting the image shows the correct one but the tumbnail remains distorted,
    How can I fix this?
    Cheers

    Sadly that has not worked. All images in this folder are showing the wrong thumbnails and a lot of them have become unsupported.
    I really suspect its aperture not really able to cope with some many adjustments. This folder has around 300 images which I call 'on white' simple pictures with a white background. because I don't have the lighting every single one at the minimum has contrast, exposure, sharpening and white balance enhancements and its this folder thats gone wrong. All the other 60,000 or photos it would appear are just fine and these photos only occasionally have adjustment.
    Thankfully its not the end of the world, I have not yet sold my old imac which still has the intact images. presumably I can output the original masters reimport them into my new make and make all the adjustments again.

  • Placing Insertion Point for Images

    Virtually all of the instructions for inserting images in
    Dreamweaver tell you to first "place the insertion point in the
    document where you want the image." How can I (Move) that is place
    the cursor at a particular place on the blank page without using
    carriage returns, tabs, etc that add unnecessary code.
    Thank you for your assistance on what must be a trivial
    matter for those more experienced than I

    You cannot. You must build an HTML infrastructure that allows
    your
    insertion point to be placed where you want it on the page.
    For example, if you want an image to be placed 100px down
    from the top of
    the page, and 100px to the right of the left margin, you
    could do that by
    building an HTML table with a cell that falls at exactly that
    point. Then
    you would just drop the image into that cell.
    See - web authoring is not like using Microsoft Word, or a DT
    Publishing
    application. Unfortunately, you need to have some
    understanding of the
    underlying HTML/CSS to begin to work efficiently.

  • Best way to place lots of images into one

    Hello,
    I have made a Javascript script that loops between 20.000+ images and puts them into a main image. Code is:
    var sampleDocToOpen = File('~/a/'+(l+startF)+'/'+(i+start)+'.png')
    open (sampleDocToOpen)
    app.activeDocument.selection.selectAll()
    app.activeDocument.selection.copy()
    app.activeDocument.close()
    app.documents[0]
    app.activeDocument.paste()
    it works, but it is extremely slow (I also have the main image flattened every 30-40 images to make it quicker).
    So i tried to place the images directly into the main image via:
    function placeFile(file) {
         var desc = new ActionDescriptor();
         desc.putPath( charIDToTypeID('null'), file );
         desc.putEnumerated( charIDToTypeID('FTcs'), charIDToTypeID('QCSt'), charIDToTypeID('Qcsa') );
             var offsetDesc = new ActionDescriptor();
             offsetDesc.putUnitDouble( charIDToTypeID('Hrzn'), charIDToTypeID('#Pxl'), 0.000000 );
             offsetDesc.putUnitDouble( charIDToTypeID('Vrtc'), charIDToTypeID('#Pxl'), 0.000000 );
         desc.putObject( charIDToTypeID('Ofst'), charIDToTypeID('Ofst'), offsetDesc );
         executeAction( charIDToTypeID('Plc '), desc, DialogModes.NO );
    But after opening few images it says that "scratch disks are full", and I verify that it is true since almost 500GB of the HD are used by the application... Images are 512x512 each, thus the resulting image main image is 83456x63488.
    Is there a faster way I could try to use??
    Thanks a lot!

    And also realize what is going on. First your using a script. Though a script is a program with logic its source code which is not compiled into machine code its has to be intrepided into machine executable code as the script processor  iterate through your buffered source code. This itself takes time. Then you have to understand what is happening in your loop and what Photoshop has to do once the Script code can be executed.  Using Copy and Paste or Place requires Photoshop to open and read in 20,000 encoded jpeg images files and one way or the other decode the encoded image for rendering to copy it to the Clipboard  or render the embedded smart object copy into the Smart Object Layer. Then there is the other code that you have to add canvas and distribute the images layers across the canvas. Intrepiding the script source code some 20,0000 times is something like doing 20,000 compiles where the source code is only read in once but is turned into machine executable code 20,0000 times.  To process 20,000 encoded images files using a full feature image Editor program and a scripting process is going to take a long tome and require a lot of machine resources.  If you want a fast solution you will need custom compiled program designed for your process. Still reading and decoding 20,000 small jpeg image files is going to take some time and require quite a bit of machine resources. It might be better to use an image file format that doesn't use compression and complex image encoding to cut down on the amount of processing reqruired .
