Placing a Suitable Marker...

Hi
I have a project with basically 2 files in them totally to 5.2GB, I tried burning the disc but I keep a formatting failed error message. "... A suitable marker could not be found in the required layer break range." I have referred to the manual and I just couldn't get it. I tried building the project first so that i can get the marker options laid out but it did not work. I went through my project folder's TSO and it did not work either. What would be the best way to do it?
The 2 files are about an hour long each of a show I am compiling for a client. I supposed I can make that 3 files per disc but it is still not working. Please advise.
Thank you.

just select a marker in you track where you want the layer break to occur and check the dual layer break box in the inspector.

  • Help! suitable marker not found

Hello- I get an error that says "Suitable marker can not be found in the required layer". I'm using DVDSP 4, creating a dual layer dvd, set my break point as Automatic, and building my project as an .img. I have 5 separate tracks in the dvd. Any help?

    Hi pnicolas,
    Welcome aboard.
Suitable marker is in fact a place for the layer break. Unforunatly DVDSP at this stage doesn't offer you places where a marker could be placed.
The manual has some detail on approximating how to locate this position. But it does require you placing a marker in that position. And in this case you don't have a chapter marker in an eligible position.
If you are not so sure on the technique. Then you can estimate where you think the half way point in the project is either via a bit budget or using half way point of all your tracks etc. And then placing a liberal dose of markers in the area and do a test build to see if you get past your dialogue box.
    Cheers

  • Formatting was not successful. A suitable marker could not be found in the required layer break range

Formatting was not successful. A suitable marker could not be found in the required layer break range. See the DVD Studio Pro User's Manual for more information.

Do you understand about layer breaks?  Check the manual on this.  Also do some googling.  I went thru **** with this a few months back being unable to set a layer break.  Finally realized that my dvdsp project had gotten corrupted.  Had to rebuild it and then it worked.

It means your file is too large to fit on a single layer disk.

  • Suitable marker break point error for dual layer DVD!

I'm a new FCP user of a few months and DVDSP of one week.
I have read the manual again and again and I am still not sure how to add a suitable break point. I added a chapter marker and set it as a dual layer break point, not sure if that is correct. Quicktime Movie is 5.9 GB, it does everything except burn to DVD in SP. I can burn this movie in IDVD though. Please help me!
Thank you in advance for your help, I appreciate the assistance everyone so willingly gives. Thank you!

Will compressor or Mpeg cause degeneration of picture quality?
If you put it on DVD-Video, you have to convert it to MPEG2 (with either Compressor or by letting DVDSP convert it). It will lose quality as a result. The only way to minimize this is to use as high a bitrate for your MPEG2 file as possible. Compressor has some presets labeled 60 min, 90 min, and 120 min, that will allow movies of that length to fit onto a single-layer DVD.
You should probably re-read the opening chapters of the DVDSP manual; they cover this important and fundamental information relatively well.

  • "suitable marker" troubles

I have a dual layer DVD project. The project has two tracks. Each track is 60 minutes long, 3.9 GB in size, and has no chapters (except for Chapter 1, ie: the start point).
I have done the build already. I'm unable to do the format because I keep getting the message saying "a suitable chapter could not be found in the layer break range".
I have referred to the manual, but can't find a way around it since I have no chapters in the tracks. I tried inserting various chapter markers near the end of each track, but no joy. I also tried adding a chapter marker at the end of each track and labelling it as the dual layer break point -- still no joy. I just keep getting the same error message each time I try to format.
I've read this forum looking for answers, and there is often a refrence to picking chapters from a pull-down list, choosing ones that aren't greyed out...but I have never come accross this pull-down list while working on the project.
Any help very much appreciated. Cheers.
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4)

    Thanks for your reply Colin.
I only have the PDF Help manual - my physical copy of the manual is long lost.
Both tracks are identical in length and file size.
I've added plenty of chapter markers at the beginning of the tracks. Still I get the error message. Am I perhaps adding the markers incorrectly? Are they supposed to be added before the Build step, or after?
This project's video doesn't require any chapters at all - it's just ambient, back-ground type images, there's no plot to follow, and no fast-forwarding or rewinding required. I know what you mean, though, but in this case it would be pointless.

  • Where Should I Set the Layer Break Marker?

I am burning to a Memorex DVD+R DL media------
I received this error message when burning:
"Formatting was not successful. Layer 0 exceeds the
maximum layer size allowed. Please choose a suitable
marker location that will support this condition."
I placed one approx halfway through my main sequence, which
is a total of 4.6 GB, but I am still receiving this message.
Where should I place the marker so I can successfully output?
My total project is about 6.2 GB.

So you are telling me that I could delete the DNS from each machine and set it in either the new modem or Time Capsule router.
    That is correct!
I guess what I'm confused at is what device is doing what.
Let's look at a few examples, hopefully to help understand where all these protocols/services (PPPoE, DNS, & DHCP) come into play:
    Scenario 1: Modem > Computer
In this scenario, your ISP provides the DNS server IP address information to your computer via DHCP. DHCP also provides the other important IP address information: IPv4 address, subnet mask, & router IP to your computer in order to communicate on the Internet.
Since your DSL ISP requires that you are authorized to access their Internet service, they utilize PPPoE to pass your account credentials (username & password) from your computer to their authorization server. Once verified, you are granted access.
Scenario 2: Modem > Router (Actiontec) > Computer
In this scenario, your Actiontec router provides your account credential (via PPPoE) to the ISP and also acts as a DHCP server. As a DHCP server, it provides your computer with the required IP addresses and passes on the ISP's DNS IP addresses as well. You do have an option with this router to enter a different set of DNS IP addresses ... like those for Google DNS or OpenDNS if you do NOT want to use the ISP's DNS servers. In this case, the Actiontec, uses its DHCP server to provide those addresses to your computer.
Scenario 3: Modem > Upstream Router (Actiontec) > Downstream Router (TC) > Computer
Since you have the TC configured as a bridge, it is basically a "pass-through" device. That is, the Actiontec will continue to provide the IP addresses just like in Scenario 2 "through" the TC so that wired or wireless clients connected to the TC get the addresses. Also, like in Scenario 2, you can assign DNS IP addresses on the TC ... and these would be provided to clients connected to it.

  • HT3529 How do I sent text messages to me as an email?  I have tried this by chosing Edit, then putting a check mark next to the text to send, entered my email and it goes back to the phone as a text msg, never comes to my email in box?

I have tried to send a text that I received to my email address by hitting, Edit then placing a check mark next to the text to send, entered my email address and hit the send icon.  Three times, the email has come to me as a text and never appears in my email inbox.   Help please!

    I think you're asking this:
You received a text message.  Now you would like to copy the text message's information and receive it as an email.
You would do that by copying the text message to your clipboard (hold down the text bubble and select "Copy"), creating an email message, and pasting that text into the body of the email message and sending it.

  • Crop marks being applied incorrectly

    Hi everyone,
I've just started using Illustrator CS4 and I'm trying to apply crop marks to a selection. The selection is made up of a mask, where an ellipse is making a larger shape. When I apply the crop command, it's placing the crop marks at the edges of the larger masked object instead of the ellipse.
Is there a way to have the crop marks appear at the edges of the ellipse instead? I'd prefer not to crop any of the masked object away as I may need to go back to it later on.
    Appreciate any help.

Just take care not to have a stroke on the object you're using to create your crop marks from.
If you have, for example, an ellipse with a bleed (like a beer bottle label where the colour extends right to the edge of the label and bleeds past the cutter line), it's a good idea to copy the stroked path, paste in front, remove its colour and then make your crop marks. Then delete the uncoloured line if you like. Next copy corner crop marks to centres like I said before. In the case of a beer bottle label (been there) you would normally have the cutting line as a separate thin stroke in an overprinting spot colour called "cutter" or "die".
By default, crop marks come in the colour called "Registration" in the Swatches palette, so that they show up on all plates, but of course you can alter their colour afterwards as you please.
Crop marks also have a tendency to come on the topmost layer which is not always what you want, but it's not problem moving them to the layer where you want them to be. Also, be careful not to have the topmost layer locked when trying to make crop marks on a lower layer. You will get a nasty message to that effect and probably a failure or even a crash.

  • Exporting Crop marks

After distillilng a file iI then import it back into QuarkExpress
Though the crop marks are in the Acrobat file, when imported they no longer show up
What can I do to have them show up other then opening in Illustrator and resaving as a pdf?

I specify crops for all my AI, ID docs going to print in the PDF settings. Never create them in the native programs.
Are you then placing the crop marked PDF in Quark? Crops should be there. Not sure I understand why you need to import them back....

  • Error message when trying to burn DVD+R DL

I am trying to burn a 6GB project onto a DVD+R DL for the first time. The burning process runs through 100% then I get a blank DVD and an error message that says... "Layer 0 exceeds the maximum layer size allowed, please choose a suitable marker location that will support this condition." I'm not quite sure what this means. Any advice?

Welcome to the Boards (Search seems to be gone, urgh, because I had a post I usually point to, bummer)
1.) In a DL disc Layer 0 needs to be larger than Layer 1
2.) A marker needs to be placed as a Layer Break in the project to indicate the layers.
3.) The marker will be right around the 1/2 point of the disc (give or take)
4.) Find the place which is about 1/2 way and put a few markers in there
5.) Build the DVD to the HD then select format. If there is a suitable layer break marker it will be black otherwise it will be gray. Sometimes finding the right place for the marker with hunting and pecking
I will dig up some more info

  • Layer 0 exceeds the max layer

When I try formatting a dvd I get the message: Layer 0 exceeds the max layer size allowed please choose a suitable marker location that will support this condition.
I brought in a 2 hour and 45 minute vcr video and added chapter markers. Does this simply mean the size is too big or what is it looking for?
    Thank You

    DUAL LAYER BREAK POINTS
Basically when burning a DL disc there needs to be something called a "break point" which is effectively a marker at what is considered a "permissable" spot for a break point. The requirements for break points have certain conditions (Layers cannot exceed certain sizes, Layer 0 needs to be larger than Layer 1 etc.) If there is not a marker that meets these conditions, then you will get various error messages.
1.) In a DL disc Layer 0 needs to be larger than Layer 1
2.) A marker needs to be placed as a Layer Break in the project to indicate the layers.
3.) You can start by assuming the marker will be right around the 1/2 point of the disc (give or take)
4.) Find the place which is about 1/2 way and put a few markers in there
5.) Build the DVD to the hard drive then select format. If there is a suitable layer break marker it will be black otherwise it will be gray.
Look [over here|http://dvdstepbystep.com/break.php] has generally the same info and some links for things to look at.

  • Navigation Bar - Typical uses

More than likely I am "creatively challenged" but I don't see how a Navigation Bar allows for functionality not already provided by other navigation components like tabs, breadcrumbs and lists in conjunction with the Page 0 feature. If anyone has used a Nav Bar extensively, could you please explain the typical use cases? Thanks

I haven't actually used Navigation Bars "extensively" but have been thinking about templates a lot recently and I think gained some insight through that exercise.
As both of you have said, it's all just methods of navigation, so it has to be the differences between the navigation bar, tabs, and lists that provide reasons for using one over the other.
Tabs and the navigation bar (hereinafter "nav bar" to save typing) are similar in that they are, out of the box, global navigation mechanisms with their mark-up and general layout set in page templates. If you use a built-in template or set up your own as required, then the nav bar/tabs will appear on every page utilising that template without any further work. The nav bar can be placed anywhere in the page template – even included more than once – but Page Template Substitutions Order.
Lists however have to be explicitly included in a page by adding a list region. Adding it to Page 0 will make it appear on every page. List mark-up is defined in list templates, with a default template assigned to each list when it is created, but the template can be overridden on a region-by-region basis, which results in great flexibility.
Individual tabs, nav bar entries and list entries can all be included or excluded from display using Conditions. All can have their appearance and positioning completely customised using CSS (given suitable mark-up in the appropriate template). Using this, the App Builder provides hooks to define tabs and list entries as current for one or more pages, allowing for a different appearance that provides orientation for users. Although it is possible to achieve a similar thing with nav bar entries, APEX provides no direct support for this.
Applications can subscribe to nav bar entries published from a master application, which cannot be done with tabs and list entries. This enables a consistent "supra-global" navigation mechanism to be shared across a family of applications in a workspace. Re: APEX 3.1 Enhancements.
Tabs always submit the page. This will not be necessary or desirable for all navigation operations. (Nav bar and list entries can of course be coded to submit if necessary.) Tabs – especially 2-level tabs – Is there any hope of getting two level tabs to work?
Breadcrumbs I haven't considered as much.
So in deciding whether use of the navigation bar is indicated, probably the following would be relevant:
    - Do you want to locate navigation links in page templates? – Outside regions? Possibly more than once? Possibly outside the APEX form?
    - Do you need to provide common navigation links across applications?
    - Do you need links that don't submit the page?

  • Dvd format error

I’m trying to burn a dual layer dvd project. The file size is 7.5Gb and the dvd holds 8.5Gb.

I create several break points starting at the 40% mark to the 70% mark and click to reformat but each time I continue to get the following to messages.
