Placing files from LiveType over video in FCE

Hi all -
Another (hopefully) quick one. I've created some basic lower third graphics using LiveType, but I cannot for the life of me get them to properly go over my video in FCE.
When I try to overlay them on the top level video (this is a multi angle project) it seems to cut a hole in the top level and put the graphic on the secondary video... which I obviously do not want.
Isn't there a simple way just to overlay it on whatever clip I want? If so, I can't find it.
Sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm full of those!
Frank

Import the LT project file and place it on the track above the video.
You might need to put up on the web a graphic of what you're seeing. I'm finding it hard to visualize. Maybe a graphic of what you see in the Canvas and one of the area of the timeline.

  • What setup do I use to import files from my hard drive into FCE 4.0.1?

I can import files (HD from Canon camera, saved as QuicktimeMov - ratio 1920 x1080, 25fps) to FCE but they show up as needing rendering.
(red line above timeline)  What should my settings be to make them compatible to FCE?  I have it set on Apple Codec Intermediate 1920x1080i50 with HD format.
Have tried all the settings but come up with the same result.  Also, do I need to compress my files before I import them to FCE?
    Thanks.

Video from the 550D (acually, all Canon DSLRs) cannot be used directly in FCE.  There is a Canon EOS plugin that allows you to directly Log & Transfer from the DSLR into Final Cut Pro, but the plugin does not work with Final Cut Express.
In order to use the 550D video in Final Cut Express you will need to convert it to QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codec by using a utility such as MPEG Streamclip or Clipwrap.  You need to do this before you import the video into FCE.
Even though the 550D saves video as .mov files (QuickTime files) it uses a Canon H.264 codec which is why it needs to be transcoded into Apple Intermediate Codec before you can use it in FCE.

  • Creating MOV files from MPEG 4 video?

    Hi,
I've been looking into how to create an MOV file from an MPEG 4 video preferably without changing or reencoding the bitstream. I've looked online for programs, but does anyone have any ideas?
    thx

A simple "Save As" in QuickTime Pro will put the same codecs found in the .mp4 file into a .mov container.
No re-encoding and very fast. It will also restore the "fast start" feature for Web use.

  • Apple TV painfully slow buffering HD files from iTunes over WiFi

When using Apple TV over WiFi to access my iTunes library everything works well EXCEPT when the video is an HD format file.   I convert using SmartConverter to the standard Apple TV setting, and anything that is HD transfers so slowly over to Apple TV that I pause for up to 1/2 an hour (do the chores) and then come back to Apple TV to see that only 15-20 minutes has buffered.
If I connect via Ethernet, it works perfectly well and buffers at a very fast rate so this is ONLY over WiFi and only on files that are HD.
Whilst there are practical solutions (i.e. don't watch HD, or keep the ethernet cable plugged in) that's not the point - I want to watch HD and I don't want an ethernet cable snaking through the house.
I've searched forums and can't see something directly relating to this, so any advice or tips would be really useful.
    Thanks

Thanks for the suggestion, and hat's what I initially thought - I was running a Belkin modem and router which would drop the ADSL connection from time to time, and with the overall generally poor performance of that unit I decided that was likely the problem.
So, I upgraded that, - I now have a Netgear D6300 which is providing me with 60 mbps at the Apple TV, no connection drop outs or hang ups.  I've also changed my ISP from a reseller to a major provider in order to get a more stable overall service (not that that should impact the iTunes to ATV over WiFi)
But the ATV still buffers HD files so slowly.
Using ATV I can stream plenty of material over wifi - Netflix in HD, YouTube in HD, and all other devices around the house (iPads, MacBooks, laptops etc) all stream content over wifi, share the iTunes Library all over the house.   Watching non HD tagged movies/tv shows from iTunes is also running well.
So I'm pretty sure it's not the wifi, unless there's some setting I need to adjust ?

  • Capturing Footage From Composite / S-Video into FCE

I want to capture some footage from analogue sources into my Mac. It can either be via composite or S-Video but my question is : Which gizmo should I use to convert the analogue signal into DV?
The Canopus range seems like it would do the trick (ADVC55, 110 or 300, with the 55 closest to my price-point.) But the specs say it's compatible with FCP, and don't mention FCE explicitly. If I buy it, will it work, or is there some particular difference between FCP and FCE, that means it won't?
    Mac Mini 1.42   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Canopus works just fine with FCE. I've been using my ADVC 110 with two versions of FCE for two years and it works fine ... the 300 should be even better cuz of the built in TBC. I know from others that you will have no compatibility probs.

  • How do I delete invisible MP4 files from my FLIP video camera attached by USB?

Hello!  I have a FLIP video camera attached to my MacBook by USB.  The FLIP has invisible files (old videos that I have previously deleted from the camera) that I want to delete.  I can see them in Finder using File/Find/Other/Invisible Files but I ****cannot**** seem to delete them.  The "move to trash" option is not available in Finder/File.  When I drag the files to trash they don't actually move.
    Help!
    Thank you.

The simplest way is to reformat or reinitialize the card using the menu on the camera.

  • Overlaying a PSD from Photoshop Over Video!

I have a video shot where a man in the audience gets up and walks away. In the past with CS3 I have been able to export a frame of video, import that frame into Photoshop and create a still of the man who stood up (but it would be a still of him sitting down). Then I would delete the rest of the image in Photoshop, save as a psd and bring the psd back into premiere. I would put the psd over the shot of the man standing and cover up his movement while the rest of the shot plays normally.
I tried doing this in cs4 the other day and when I brought the psd back into premiere the color didn’t quite match the video so I applied a color correction to the psd. It applied the color correction to the psd layer of the man and the video on the video layer below it. I don’t want to change the color on my video and only want to change the color on my psd to match the video.
I have to know how to do this now! How do I fix this?

Ok, I found that the Tiffs before being imported into Photoshop did not match the video.  So the problem was in premiere.  After doing some digging and asking around I found the solution.
I had the sequence selected that I wished to export the still frame from and went to:
Sequence>Sequence Setting> and changed the Video Luma Setting from Post Production to Broadcast.
When Broadcast was selected all tiffs being exported from premiere matched the video on the timeline.
I did not have to change anything else in photoshop.

  • CHALLENGE: CAPTURE files from JVC H7 Camcorder to FCE via log and capture.

Thanks to this forum I can now capture from my JVC HD7 in real time. BUT, the utility File>Log and Transfer seems lots better. See www.apple.com/finalcutexpress/ and look at the video AVCHD capture. My JVC AVCHD does not seem to be able to log and capture. Maybe some genius can figure it out. Please help.
    Thanking in advance.
    Don

    Attn: Tom Wolsky.
I was disappointed to hear I could not capture by Log and Capture with the JVCE Everio HD7.
May I ask, Do you know any comparable camcorder with a 60 meg HD that would.
Or what would be the best method to capture from the JVC?
I have your book on order and looking forward to it.
    Thanks for ant help,

  • How can I capture AVHDC video files from Panasonic HD video camera??

I just received a Panasonic HS300 video camera and can't copy the video files on my computer.
I see several files in the CAM_HDD camera folder on the desktop. But the only relevant files for me to copy are the JPG photos. I don't see any video files.
In the specs of the camera they write that I should have a Mac with an Intel processor. Is that the problem???
I even tried to copy the files on a PC (I succeeded) and then brought them on my computer with a USB stick. It didn't work: again, the only relevant files that I could see were the JPG, no trace of any video (but they were indeed on that USB stick!!).
How can I access those video files and use them in Final Cut Pro, or even iMovie??
I'm becoming afraid that i won't be able to use that camera unless I buy a new Mac now!!!
    thanks!

    you need this: http://www.shedworx.com/voltaichd
the native iMovie / FC AVCHD codecs are only for Intel Macs, the format is a highly compressed HD format which needs to be unpacked & converted for use.
The powerbook may not be up to editing these files. expect a slow process of exporting & working with the footage.

  • Placing files from Photoshop and Illustrator to InDesign

I made a box in Illustrator and Extruded and Beveled it. When I placed it to InDesgin it had lines all around the outside of the box. I also made some circuit looking lines in Illustrator then opened it in Photoshop and Beveled and Embossed it, when I placed it in InDesign all of the diagonal lines were blurry. The image was rasterized when I opened it in Photoshop but the resolution is 300 ppi. I have my settings in InDesign set to High Quality and I have tried exporting my file as a PDF but then imperfections are still there.

300 ppi in photoshop by itself means nothing. Did you scale the image? What's the Effective PPI when you check the Info?
Even an effective PPI of 300 may not be enough for sharp edges. I typically like to see 1200 or more for line art going to press.

  • Can I move video files from Final Cut Pro to iMovie?

I've used iMovie forever, and I just bought Final Cut Pro.  I uploaded video for a new movie into FCP, but I have an urgent need to get this movie done and don't have time to learn Final Cut Pro to do it.  Can I move my video files from FCP over to iMovie 10.0.6?  Or do I need to reload the raw video to iMovie?

No you will have to import your clips again into iMovie 10.  Projects can only be transferred from iMovie 10 to FCPX and not the other way.
    Geoff.

  • Import .avi files from Nikon D90 to FCE

    Hi,
Does any of you have experience with importing the HD video files from a Nikon D90 into FCE? Does it require FCE 4 or is FCE 3.5 good enough? I like to mix it with footage from my Canon HV30, which imports fine to FCE 3.5.
    Thx for you help!

The material has to be converted to the Apple Intermediate Codec. You can probably do this using MPEG Streamclip.

  • Importing titles from LiveType

When I import a title generated from LiveType, it has to be rendered in Final Cut Express HD. After rendering, the type is pixelated both in the preview and the final DVD. Any ideas whey a .mov file from LiveType needs to be rendered in FCEHD and or why it ends up pixelated in the final DVD?

If you are working with DV footage in your Timeline in FCE, your LT settings should be set for DV 3:2
For me, I don't bother exporting LT titles as movies. I create them, save them as a project file and import that into FCE. Yes, I need to render it then but if I need to make changes to it, I just use the Open in Editor function which will open LT right in the Timeline; I make my changes, Save and bingo, reflected in the Timeline. Yes, I need to re-render, but this gives me excellent quality and if I drop the title on a Video track above my clip, I have perfect superimposition
