Placing images behind a transparent font.

Hello everybody
I have a transparent font and an image of lightning. I would like for the transparent font to be filled with the image of the lightning. So rather than the font color be a solid color, it would be the image. Hopefully that makes sense. Thank you very much for your willingness to help newbies like me.
Tim

I have no idea what you mean by "transparent font". Transparency is not an attribute a font can have. An object can have transparency, and that object can be text set in a font, but the font itself has no measure of transparency.
BUT, if you want to use some text to mask an image, make sure the text is above the object in this case, the lightning image), select both, the go to Object > Clipping Mask > Make.

  • Need help placing image behind design

I am currently designing a DVD case for a wedding client. I have everything on it completed, except that I cannot send the picture behind the design, so that it is only visible through the circular opening.
I've tried rearranging layers, changing visibility, everything.
This unfortunately won't let me attach a screen grab of the photoshop window, hopefully my description is clear. Thanks so much in advance!

    Hi Amunzphotography,
Unfortunately I am not sure what is the problem here. If you are rearranging the layers that should do the trick.
Could you take a look at this document, it explains how to share screenshots on the forums.

  • Placing images behind flash

Hey guys. I couldn’t really put this problem into a
sentence to find out the answer so i thought i would ask:
I need 2 images to be flush against each other but the two
graphics do not have strait lines. Basically it is a sort of jig
saw type of scenario where by i need the images to fit each other.
One is a flash file and the other a graphic.
I ask as the use of tables restricts me from fitting them
together, there is always a gap.
Can i just change the HTML code to allow me to move one image
downwards when both are within the same table? This is one of those
'pain in the ***' things to try to put into words (especially at
3am) but if anyone knows what im on about i would appreciate the
    help.

That can also fail in Safari if there are links involved.

  • Strange stiching white lines in placed images...

    Hi,
I'm having some problems with Illustrator CS2.
When i place a .PSD file (1 layer, photo, transparent background) with 300 dpi / CMYK 8bit into my main page, i get these strange stitching white lines over the image.
Not only that, but after working on my arrangement some more, if i click my placed image, i notice how Illustrator has sliced it into 2 or more parts..
This is annoying, since getting those white stitching lines doesn't really make me safe for print, and also bothers me that Illustrator slices the image into 2 or more parts without asking or confirmation.
Anyone knows how i can fix this problem?
    Thanks,
    John

  • White lines appear around placed images in printing.

A native Illustrator document with placed Photoshop (both CS6) images produces whites lines around the placed images when printed.  The Illustrator document does not show white lines on screen.  Nor does the PDF (Acrobat X Pro) generated from the IA doc show white lines when viewed on screen.  When the document goes to press, the printed product show the white lines:
See upper left image and lower right image-note: other images are not affected.  Both both are native Photoshop images, placed on a gradient in IA.  Perhaps the PDF settings: "Adobe PDF Preset" or "Standard" are not chosen correctly?  Why the white lines?

You screenshot shows a modified Illustrator Default preset with Compatability to Acrobat 4. That setting always flattens transparency which is what I would suggest avoiding first.
Note the Warnings summary alerts that transparency will be flattened.

2.That same initial 'Save Adobe PDF' widow allows for three settings: Adobe PDF Preset (12 choices); Standard (6 choices), and Compatibility (5 choices).  Note how the window signals a Warning (Warnings: Saving this file with Compatibilty set to Acrobat 4 (PDF 1.3) requires items with transparency to be flattened.)  Could this be a warning that produces the stitch lines in the actual printing?
    Yes

Discussion seems to indicate seeing 'stiching lines' on screen; sometimes in the designing application; or in the generated PDF.  My instances are visible only in printing-in two of the four images.
    1. Transparency.  Is this an automatic occurence in generating the PDF?  Can I turn it on/off? (The 'Save Adobe PDF' window that allows changes to: General, Compression, Marks & Bleeds,Output,, Advanced.....)
Transparency is part of some design and all Effects. Note that you can change a color by using a tint or by setting it's transparency. Many times a tint will suffice. It looks the same and has the same values.
Your original screenshot apears to use images with clipping paths. (Full disclosure - I should know this, but don't...I expect) clipping paths require/invoke the transparent background to place the images within the colored area.
You cannot get around transparency but flattening converts vector objects to raster objects (when transparency touches/abuts/interacts with raster images).
You should be able to use the Illustrator Default, High Quality Print or PDFX-4 to maintain live transparency
2 very old (2004) Adobe white papers, not too legnthy which I can shed some light. Note - PDFX-4 superceeds all of these.

  • Placing images in Illustrator for print ready files

I'm designing a brochure in Illustrator that contains several logos and photos.  (Yes, I know, Illustrator... I've read several forums and know that InDesign may be a better program for this, but I completely underbid this project and really need to stick with something I know for cost efficiency.)
I need to resize several images in Photoshop to place in Illustrator and I'm wondering if I should save them as CMYK jpegs, or tiffs, etc.  I need the file to be the smallest it can be for upload to the printer.  I need the basics on different file types and their pros and cons.
Also, when I'm sending out the proof to the customer, any tips on saving the pdf so the images aren't too blurry and the file is still sendable?
Please help!!  Any other information or tips on how to prepare my file as a print ready would be great.  I love to learn and really need some great resources.
    Thanks!

How many pages are we talking about?  The key to file efficiency is Placing images at their final size, so you are on the right track.  Let me try to help...
"I need to resize several images in Photoshop to place in Illustrator and I'm wondering if I should save them as CMYK jpegs, or tiffs, etc.  I need the file to be the smallest it can be for upload to the printer.  I need the basics on different file types and their pros and cons."
-Do not save as JPG.  The compression artifacts will show up in print.  Just Place CMYK .tiffs or .psd's without sizing in Illustrator.  Another thing to keep in mind is "Linking" the image files instead of "Embedding" them.  You have a little more control saving your page files as EPS before creating the final PDF.
"Also, when I'm sending out the proof to the customer, any tips on saving the pdf so the images aren't too blurry and the file is still sendable?"
-There are a few different ways you can create a PDF viewable as a softproof.  You could send the final as a Standard PDF using defaults.  Don't forget to embed the fonts and leave color unchanged.  What I do is Export > RGB TIF @ 150ppi > Open the .tiff in Photoshop and Save-As Photoshop PDF with a JPG compression of 8.  You could do that for each page and then reassemble using Acrobat for one assembled, final PDF optimized.
"Please help!!  Any other information or tips on how to prepare my file as a print ready would be great.  I love to learn and really need some great resources."
-Get Adobe's Print Publishing Guide.  It has enough information in it to help you wade through all of the disinformation out there.  Get in touch with a couple of local print shops and have them take a look at your files.  Good shops can spot problems and give you some handy tips.  Not all shops will take the time, so finding one can be tricky.
    Thanks!
-You're welcome.  Let us know how it all shakes out.

  • Brush on placed image

Is it possible to apply a pattern brush to a placed image in Illustrator?

Illustrator cannot directly edit the pixels in a placed image. You can draw anything possible above a placed image and adjust its transparency and opacity settings, so perhaps that is all you are after.
If you want Photoshop-like editing of the raster date in a placed image, you will need a raster image editor like… Photoshop. You could draw out your desired artwork in Illustrator, then hide or delete the placed image and place that .ai file into Photoshop on its own layer, rasterize it, and edit it as pixels.

  • Change stacking order of placed images/objects?

    Hello All,
Is it possible to change the order of placed images in a PDF?
I have a PDF with several objects in it, I want to be able to place an image into the PDF, and have it appear behind some of the objects and in front of others... is this possible?
Example, let's say I have a PDF with a cartoon/comic word or thought bubble in it... I want to be able to place an image of my friend behind the word bubble object.
    I have Acrobat 9.0 Pro
    Thanks!

As far as AS3 goes, I don't know what you mean, but it can be used pretty much the same way you use AS2, with the exception that in AS3 you cannot place code "on" object like you can in AS1/AS2... all code must be on the timeline.  Beyond that, there is no difference beyond alot of the code being different between the two languages.  The timeline remains as a place to build things in if you choose to.
As far as your question goes, yes, you can have a rollover of a movieclip assign text to a textfield within it.  Let's say you're using AS2 and you have a movieclip named "button1" that contains a textfield named "tf1".  Code for that could be...
    button1.onRollOver = function(){
         button1.tf1.text = question1;
And if you wanted to make tit so that clicking that same button shows the answer....
    button1.onRelease = function(){
         button1.tf1.text = answer1;

  • CS6 InDesign - Default display is high-quality. Four placed images are Illustrator files. Three images look the way they should - high-quality. One image looks pixelated. Why?

InDesign CS6 - Default display is high-quality. All four placed images are Illustrator files. Three images look the way they should - high-quality. One image looks pixelated. Why?

Not sure if this will help, but what is your inDesign file's "Transparency Blend Space" set to? It's under the edit menu.
Also, when you are placing your images, are you selecting "Show Import Options" and making any selections there?

  • Placed image not showing up once I save to PDF

I have checked the link again and again. The link is fine. At first I had a .psd file in there, which I thought may be the problem, but then changed it to a .eps and it still did the same thing. However, the weird thing is that the placed image shows up fine when I view the pdf on my computer. I also checked it out on a friend's computer and it looked great. But on the client's mac, she's not seeing it.... Anyone know what's going on here?

Good possibility your PDF is complex, using transparency, perhaps, and your friend with the Mac is using Preview to view it. Make sure she's using Acrobat or Adobe Reader (FREE) before you do anything else.

  • How to organize hundreds of images into a transparent grid

    How would you do this:
Create a contact sheet sort of thing but with something like only 1 or 2 pixels between adjacent images (on all sides).
And any space not taken by an image would be transparent.
Images will be something like 100x84 px  (app) but should fit something like 24rows by 32  columns  (app) or there abouts.
Spacing can be adjusted to stay in some 3:4 (NTSC) relationship
No dimensions or column/row stipulations are exact and in fact are pretty loose.
Final (approx) dimension can even be attained by Free_Transform  dragging to size.
The main requirement is that the images are uniformly and closely (but not touching) spaced.
    ====================================================================
I'm tinkering with the ouput module and getting pretty close, but don't see any options for a transparent background.  Unless there is something tricky that can be done using the `custom' button on the color picker.

You could use this script to place all your documents, they will be placed next to each other without any spacing.

Increase your canvas size to allow for the spaceing required
See this thread for the re-space script.

As Walt says - you need to use CSS to declare the background
    for the
    cell..maybe this will help:

  • Photoshop CS6 Mac: Placed images are not moveable

Anyone else have this bug? Placed images cannot be moved or transformed, at least initially. I am finding that after a period of time passes (half minute or more), the image is sometimes 'released' and is then transformable. But it can take a couple of minutes. Very bizarre.

What OS version and what are your Performance Preferences?
    Boilerplate-text:
Are Photoshop and OS fully updated and have you performed the usual trouble-shooting routines (trashing prefs by keeping command-alt-shift/ctrl-alt-shift pressed while starting Photoshop after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed, 3rd party plug-ins deactivation, system maintenance, cleaning caches, font validation, etc.)?

  • How to create image slice with transparent background without white halo around?

Hi, I want to make slice image with transparent background. I set the slice option background color to my background color. But when the image is on my html page set against the same background color, it has white halo around:
How can I get rid of the white halo?
I need the slice image to have transparent background and not have a color background because it's going on a rollover button with the background change. I don't want it to look like this on rollover:

    >it looks to me like you built it with that "halo" to start with.
No, I didn't put in the halo myself. The shape is a character from the Webdings font. It's set to some darker fill color and set on a transparent background. Photoshop put the white halo there after "Save For Web".
    > Make your graphic on a transparent background and Save for Web
    I did exactly that, see:
I set the slice background to my color. I try the Matte option and come out the same with white halo.
It seems I'm not making Photoshop antialias to my background color, instead Photoshop just antialias to white.
What else do I need to do?
