Placing links in an Acrobat pop-up

Hi,
I created a PDf of a PowerPoint document. On one of the pages I created a pop-up using the Mouse Enters and Mouse Exits actions. I have a Label button and an Icon button. The icon button is the pop-up. The label button is the one with the actions.
The pop-up is hidden until the mouse enters the label button.
I want to place a link to a page within the pop-up, e.g., for more info click this link, but as soon as I mouse over the link in the pop-up, the pop-up diappears (is hidden) and the link does not work.
Any ideas how I can get this interaction to work?
Thanks,
mindforge

Hi George,
Thanks for the reply.
Yes, I am using Show/Hide actions in the label button. When the user's cursor enters the label button (show the pop-up) and when the user's cursor exits the label button (hide the pop-up).
The show/hide works really fine. However, I wanted the user to be able to click on an invisible 'link' that I positioned over the 'click here' (see the bottom of the pop-up in the image above).
The trouble is, when the cursor moves over the invisible link the pop-up hides again. It's like the show/hide action thinks the cursor has exited the label button.
The invisible link is still there but what I wanted to do is keep the pop-up visible and allow the user to click on the invisible link so they could go to the page the link navigates to.

  • RH7 HTML - Receive IE script error message when double-clicking link to auto-size pop-up

    Hi, all,
Anybody ever seen this situation? When double-clicking on a link to an auto-size pop-up, I get the following Internet Explorer script error message:
This error also occurs when I double-click the link in preview mode within the project. A colleague that is running the same version of IE with the same settings is not receiving this error. A couple of other co-workers are running a different version of IE, and one gets this error and one does not.
This error does not occur if you single-click the link (which you would normally do), nor does it occur if you double-click a link to a fixed-size pop-up. Once you receive this message and click Yes or No, the link sometimes works correctly when you double-click. I haven't been able to establish a pattern. Also, if you single click the link to display the pop-up, click off of it, and then double-click the link, the error does not occur.
As you can tell by now, this problem is kind of hard to pin down. I've done some research and I have yet to stumble upon anything that deals with this issue. Unless there is a solution out there, I can do one of two things: 1) change all of the auto-size pop-ups in the project to fixed-sized, which defeats the purpose of creating auto-size pop-ups, or 2) tell our customer not to double-click links.
Any advice you could give would be welcome.

    Hi there
Indeed it has been reported on many occasions over the years. Unless someone like Willam has some way cool error detection magick with the scripts, the best approach we have always offered is this.
Educate your users on the way computers and HTML works. HTML works using SINGLE clicks, not DOUBLE clicks.
The reason for the error is because the first click caused the computer to launch a JavaScript command to open the sized popup. The second click that followed in rapid succession confused things by asking the script to stop what it was doing and run again.
Maybe it would help to explain it to your users like this. If you visited a restaurant and when the server asked what you wanted to order, would the become confused if you said to them: I'll have the T-Bone Steak and nearly immediately you repeated it by saying again I'll have the T-Bone Steak.
    Cheers... Rick

    Hi,
Standard or Pro would be licensed through your serial number, the download link and downloaded file would be the same for both of them.
Pro or Standard would be determined after you put in your serial number.

  • Link works in Acrobat Std 8.0, Acrobat Reader 8.2, but not in Reader 9.0

Hi. I also posted this in the Acrobat site:.  Perhaps this might be a more appropriate location?
    Hello.
I faced a really strange thing today.  I created a report PDF through Xcelsius.  In this PDF, I have a Flash button which, when clicked, would link to an Excel (.xls) file within our LAN.  The link works within Acrobat Standard 8.0 but not within Acrobat Reader 9.0.  I have examined the preferences on both and they are identical (as far as I can see).
    Details:
    Software used:  Xcelsius 2008 SP1
                           Acrobat Standard 8.0.0
                           Acrobat Reader 9.0
                           Acrobat Reader 8.2 (later)
    Link address:   file://G:\Management\[sub-directory]\[sub-sub-directory]\[filename].xls
Any help at all will be welcomed and appreciated.
    Thank you!
    --- Update ---
I later uninstalled Reader 9.0 and reinstalled Reader 8.2 and the link worked in Reader 8.2.  The link is a direct address and not a script.  The file is opened in IE 7 as a spreadsheet with Macros attached.  It is important for me that it works in both versions of Reader as there are several versions of Acrobat Reader deployed among our hospital -- Reader 7, 8, and 9.
Can someone help shed some light on this, please?

I think this is related to this other problem: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/567165?tstart=-1  .  This has appeared with current releases of Acrobat, Acrobat Pro and Acrobat Reader.  Adobe seems unresponsive.  We started seeing it this week in conjunction with Excelsius 4.5.  I have both Acrobat Pro 9.3 and Acrobat Reader 8 on my PC.  Pro blows up when I open the .pdf created by Excelsius, but Reader does fine.

  • Cannot open any HTTP links in Adobe Acrobat 6.0

    Hi
We cannot open any HTTP links in Adobe Acrobat 6.0, that means if we click on HTTP link nothing happens.
Howto configure Acrobat 6.0 to open HTTP links, instead of Acrobat Update?

This happens because these are not true links. Links created with Acrobat using the link tool do not have this problem. Acrobat and Reader have a feature that tries to automatically recognize urls so they can act as links, but it fails when the link contains a space.

  • Is there a way to turn Mobile Link on in Acrobat XI for Mac?

  • Invalid link message in Acrobat 7 but not in Acrobat X

    Dear All,
When clicking on an invalid external link in Abobe Acrobat 7, I receive the following error message:
The specified file ... does not exist.
But in Acrobat X, nothing happens in the same situation and I don`t know how to enable this message.
    Can anybody help?
    Thank you,

The binding determines whether the data in the field should be written to the data dom or not. A value of Normal indicates that you want the dta written to the dom and it will follow the hierarchy set in the hierarchy view of Designer. If you set it to None that indicates that you do not want the data written to the dom. You can bind the field to other inbound streams but that is another topic.
The Data Dom is what is used to store all of the data in the form. It is what is used to make the data structure of the data file that is saved or submitted.
    Does that help?

  • "Link Appearance" in Acrobat 7.0 PDF generator

Under Acrobat 5.0 PDFmaker in MS Word you can set some display options for the generates PDF file. Options like showing default bookmarks panel, visible rectangles around links and make these rectangle blue/solid.
Where can i find these options in Acrobat 7.0 PDFGenerator? Under the job options in Livecycle i do not see the same options (only the bookmark panel, page layout and page number option are equal in 7.0).
Also settings for gererating bookmarks and annotations/notes are not there anymore?
What is then the best way to set for example the "Link Appearance" in Acrobat 7.0 PDF generator or can't these settings be made anymore?
I already tried thinks with epilogue.ps:
    % OPEN INFO
    [ /PageMode /UseOutlines
    /Page 1
    /View [/XYZ null null null]
    /DOCVIEW
    pdfmark
But more then these DOCVIEW settings i can't find?
I also saw that the PDFMWord.dll (having a PDFMakerCreateStructure method for combining 2 PDF's to one!?) used in 5.0 is smaller then in 7.0. This method creates my blue visible rectangles because i can see the differences in the temp PDF's that are used before and after this execution. I also can't find any macro's (PDFMaker.dot) in 7.0, so it's probably a different handling?
So, what is the best way to solve the above issue for 7.0?

    Hi Laura:
Can you elaborate a bit more on "converting some interactive/dynamic templates from Acrobat 5.0 to 7.0" and "pre-populate"?
If you were converting the template in Adobe LiveCycle Designer (comes with Acrobat Professional), then FDF import wouldn't work.
However, if you are executing the same action via Acrobat then FDF and xFDF import/export should still work.
Also, for designer based forms, you also have the option of merging the data into the PDF form using Adobe LiveCycle Forms (A server based product).
Another server based solution is to Reader Extend your PDF form to allow local import/export of data using Adobe Reader.
It really depends on what you want to do.
    So options are this:
If your form is a Designer based forms:
    - Manually Import Data (in XML) into PDF Form using Acrobat Professional
    - Manually Import Data (in XML) into PDF Form* (Reader extended PDF form) using Adobe Reader
    - Merge Data Programmatically (in XML) into PDF Form using Adobe LiveCycle Forms
If your form is an AcroForm (acrobat based form)
    - Programmatically merge FDF data into PDF Form using the FDF toolkit/Acrobat SDK
    - Manually Import Data in FDF/xFDF into PDF Form using Acrobat Professional.

  • Convention for placing links in footer?

What is the convention for placing links in the footer? Should all the primary links be placed there? I have noticed some sites placing all the primary links there and some sites place other links there.
    Thanks.

Not saying it doesn't happen but must admit that I've yet to observe an "average" user go for links in the footer.
If the main nav doesn't work, they seem to assume that it's a broken site and hit the Back button and move to the next result on the Google top 10 page.

I updated Firefox and now, when I select File, Send Link, a dialog box pops up asking me to establish a new account before I can send the link via email. I use Outlook, so how do I avoid setting up some new account and yet am able to send the link via Outlook?

  • Is there a formula I can use to link a choice from pop-up menu to a $ amount in adjacent cell?  i.e. if Item 1 is chosen, adjacent cell populates $125.  if Item 2 is chosen, adjacent cell populates $250.

is there a formula I can use to link a choice from pop-up menu to a $ amount in adjacent cell?  i.e. if Item 1 is chosen, adjacent cell populates $125.  if Item 2 is chosen, adjacent cell populates $250. it seems like this must be possible.  Help please!

    Hi Gabe,
You could use an IF statement in the second cell.
Popup in column B, two items: "This", That" (without the quotes)
Formula in same row of column C
Format the cell in column C as currency.
If there are more than two items in the popup menu, it's better to use a lookup table containing the same list as the popup in column A, with the corresponding values in column B:
    C5: =LOOKUP(B,List :: $A,List :: $B)

http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-downloads.html. This time be sure to backup the download to a CD or separate backup HD. If you do not do such backups to any software you download, you are effectively throwing away your payment with a crash unless it just happens to be someone else has a link or copy they will share. You still need your S/N for the install.
