Placing raster image inside of line chart

I saw that it "Cool Extras", in AI folder...Is there an explanation somewhere there, as to how to get that same effect, without losing data?
Or, does anyone know how to do it, w/out loosing data?

Adobe Support has Video Workshop (if not in your CD set of CS2) which has 2-3 min. video of the various procedures of their products. Overlaying images is one lesson.

CS3-style of placing the images inside frames in CS4.

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to find a way to have the cs3 - style of placing the images into frames in the new Indy CS4. I mean when I hit cmd+D and draw a frame I don't want any scaling / fitting of the placed image. I know there's no scaling if you drop an image into existing frame but when you draw one on-the-fly it's either the frame that keeps the proportions of the image or when you hold shift the image gets scaled to fit into.
I'd rather have the old style placing as an option - but didn't find such a switch anywhere in the prefs.

Interesting request. I wouldn't have thought anyone would want the older way of creating images in frames, but I guess there's always someone who wants the old ways.
I can't find any preference to restore the behavior back to the pre-CS4 way.
But if you want to work with images the old way, you can. Your commands are just a little different, in a different order. But you may actually save a step.
Consider:
b In CS3 you had to do the following:
1. Drag to create a frame.
2. Switch to the Direct Selection tool.
3. If desired, change the position the image inside the frame
4. If desired, scale the image inside the frame
5. If desired, use the Fitting commands to fit the image inside the frame.
b In CS4 you have to do the following:
1. Drag to create a frame.
2. Switch to the Direct Selection tool.
3. Scale the image inside the frame.
4. Position the image inside the frame.
However, step 5 is probably eliminated as you already started with the image fitting inside the frame.
I agree no one likes to need to learn new work habits, but it's not such a big deal.

Manipulating custom measure variable inside a line chart

Hie Guys,
I have a line chart in my report that contains 2 custom measure variables & 1 measure object from the Universe in the Y axis and one dimension object - "Month" in the X axis.
Formula for the custom measure variables are -
If [Month] = "Jan" Then 45
ElseIf [Month] = "Feb" Then 65
ElseIf [Month] = "Mar" Then 88
And so on..........
Now, I have an input control in the report for "Project Type" (Development & Improvement)
I want the chart to behave as described below.
If (Project Type = "Development") Then only display measure object 1 in the chart
If (Project Type = "Improvement") Then only display measure object 2 in the chart.
Right now, the input controls are displaying all measure objects in the chart when I click on them.
Is there a way I can get the above mentioned functionality in my report? I am using Business Objects 4.0 SP6.

& another with [Measure Object 2] .
Now Create Variable for User Selection .
Selection = ReportFilter([Project Type])
Now in Hide When Property of chart (Right Click on Chart --> Format Chart )

Vectors printing jagged when placed over raster images

I am fixing a previously designed flyer for a reprint. On the last print, any vector object placed on top of the raster image was very noticeably jagged. This included both white text, which simply had jagged edges, to colored text, which had white jaggies as well. Drawn vector objects and clipping paths in jpgs were also jagged.
I used InDesign CS3 to create it, but I outlined the type, embedded all the images and exported as a .pdf (my project manager insists on this; so maybe it's not even an ID issue).
It looks fine when I print it on my hp LaserJet 2550n or the office's Canon iR 2800i - but that's never been a good way to tell how it's going to turn out at the end.
I know just making it all in Photoshop is probably the safest option, but I would really like to keep the sharpness of the vectors, and I've got Character/Paragraph styles etc going that would be a pain to redo in Photoshop. Plus, copy+pasting it into Photoship creates pdf/vector object that looks just as horrid (on screen - it looks the same when I print it on the above-mentioned printers, but I'm still paranoid).

Generally, I use the default settings for [Press Quality], since I don't have a complete understanding of all the settings. I have appended the .txt pdf setting summary at the bottom of this post.
I'm aware that outlining type is supposed to be unnecessary but 1) my project manager insists on it because he doesn't want to deal with any kind of font problems (maybe if this is at the root of the problem it will push him to accept it), 2) I'm using Fontin & Fontin Sans by Jos Buivenga (a high quality free font) and the ligatures/alternate characters
sometimes don't show correctly when printed (replaced by a ?) or viewed on another computer without the font.
Yes, I embed the images into the ID document (Links - embed images). This is only because my project manager insists on this as well. It is unnecessary to do this when saving to a .pdf, correct?

Showing one data point on a line chart - X-axis label placed away from its actual position

Hi Guys,
     In line chart, i used CircleItemRenderer to show single data point. It shows correctly if it is single data point. But the x-axis label placed away from its actual position. Right now it displayed left most position where the line chart starts. I need to move that label straight of that datapoint where it plotted. Please see the screen shot attached with this post.
In screen shot, x-axis label "Jan" displayed in left most position.
     And how can we show the datatip for single datapoint. At present, we can't able to see the datatips also with single datapoint.
     Can any body help me to fix those two issues.

How do i get a placed image to appear as image inside a layer?

There is a long winded reason why I want this, but in essence I am trying to replicate another artwork that has been supplied to me.
When I place a Photoshop image (TIFF / PSD etc) how can I get it so that it simply appears as <image> inside the relevant layer (screen shot attached)
I am finding that when I place an image I do not get this

That's what I had assumed. It just doesn't seem to be working for me. You don't think there is a Preference setting that might disable it?

hey, does anyone know how to place an image inside a scrollbar? i think my scroll bar is div if that helps at all....? it seems like such a simple question but ive been sitting here over an hour trying to figure it out. any help would be muchly appreciated. thankyou

If you want something fancy in appearance that is cross browser compatible, have a look at Project Seven's Vertical Scroller Magic. This is an extension for DW that's very easy to use and customize if needed.

Centering an image inside its container

Hi,
I have been placing several images with text on a web page on which I have been using CSS3 to float the images either left or right so that my text wraps around the image.
Now, at the bottom of this same page, I want to add a wider image that I do not want to wrap text around. I just want the image to centered on my page (or in its container I guess I should say, which is a div).
If anyone could tell me the best way to do this, I would greatly appreciate it.

I created the .clearing rule as you suggested and added the <hr class="clearing" /> after the end of the paragraph that wraps around my second (and final) floated image.
After the <hr class="clearing" />, I have my image reference for the image I want to be centered inside its containing DIV as follows....

...the class="center" is a class I created where I set the left and right margins to "auto", hoping that this would do the job. This didn't work. My image appears all the way to the left. If you can give me a hint what I should do to get it centered, I'd really appreciate it.

Placing FXG images and working with symbols

Has anyone been able to place fxg images in illustrator using applescript or actionscript? We spent a ton of time trying to troubleshoot it today and counldnt figure out why, but we couldnt seem to place them on a page. That and symbol scripting has been pretty tough to find any reference or examples of scripts. Thanks

Thanks for the direction but that didnt seem to solve the problem for me.Whenever I make a FSG it has a sidecar image folder becuase we use a lot of rasters with our art. Mostly tiffs. Whenever we place it using your code or applescript, we get an error: It give a couple errors in a ropw: one in the AI app saying error saying it cannot find a missing link and on in the javascript or applescript saying:
Adobe Illustrator got an error: JavaScript execution error. Error 9080: Unable to set placed item's file, is the file path provided valid? Or try to use the raster item instead.

Seems like a bug. I thought about trying to figure out how to either drag and drop a whole ton of them from bridge then they may be able to be assigned as symbol items but Im not sure how I could import all as individual symbols with filenames for names or even better how I can resolve this issue. Its a apin dealing with EPS files and this FXG format really seems to do everything we want.
Any ideas/help would be appreciated.

Using Repeater to generate dynamic line charts

I have a call to a webservice that returns an array of
arrays. The outside array relates to the "YEAR", and the inside
arrays have 1 element for each "MONTH". I want to create a line
chart that has a line for each year, with the x-axis having months
across the bottom.
I can create this just fine by coding the appropriate number
of mx:LineSeries tags in my code.
However, I have a case where the data that I get back from
the webservice could have up to 5 years (I'm only coding for 3).
So, I'd like to find a way to dynamically generate an mx:LineSeries
instance for each one of these years. I can't seem to get this to
work with using a Repeater.
This code isn't mine (got it from the docs), but it matches
with what i'm trying to do exactly:

LineSeries objects in ActionScript as soon as I get in the data.

How not to see values of a serie in a 2D line chart

Hello,
I have 3 series in a 2d line chart. There are two series which are the thresholds and one serie for the averages. Thresholds are fix/stable numbers which correspond to straight lines, however the averages as you can image dynamic and changing. What I want is to see the values of averages but not the values of the straight lines. I cannot find a spesific option for the series, I can always show/hide values which does not work for me.

Horizontal Bar Chart and Overlaying Line Chart

I am using SSRS 2008 and developing my reports in BIDS.
I have a report with two data points. I want to chart the first as a bar (horizontal) chart and then the second as an overlaying line chart.
I created both data series, originally, as a bar chart. I have clicked on the second series in the "Drop Data Fields Here" area and changed the chart to a line chart. When I do that, it changes both series to a line chart.
However, if I use the column (vertical) chart for the first series, it will let me make the second one a line chart.
Is this a limitation of SSRS 2008? Can I not have one data point be the horizontal bar chart and the second one a line chart?
If so, are there any suggestions how to get around this?

Both charts for SSRS 2005/2008 are very limited when it comes to horizontal charts and are infact supporting only left-to-right bar charts, with no ability to combine them with other charting types (lines, areas, points etc.). For a SSRS charting solution that supports all types of charting type combinations in left-to-right and right-to-left horizontal fashion you can use Nevron Chart for SSRS - www.nevron.com. Besides a huge number of charting types and subtypes (most of which are not available in the MS Chart for SSRS 2008) it also provides better image quality in 2D and 3D modes, more settings, has support for rich text formatting in texts, has image filters, ability to customize via C# code and implements many more large and small charting related details.
