Plain Paper Vs. Photo Paper Blue Tint

Hello,
I have an HP Photosmart 8450 and a MacBook Pro. I have recently been adjusting settings, properties and preferences in my Photoshop CS6 and now I can't get it to print right. When I print with the paper type/quality is set to paper, the colors are fine, but when I switch it to HP Photo paper, there is a bluish green tint to it. What can I do to correct this?
Thanks for taking the time to help me out!
Drew

You need to do a whole lot of reading on the subject of Color Management.
This would be a very good place to start:
COLOR MANAGEMENT PHOTOSHOP CC CS6 Basic ColorManagement Theory ICC Profiles Color Spaces Calibrated Monitor Professional…
It's not something that can be taught in a forum, question by question.
Photoshop is a professional level application that makes no apologies for its very long and steep learning curve.
First you have to calibrate and profile your monitor and set the resulting file as your monitor profile.
Then you have to set your working color space correctly.
Then you have to have the right target profile for every single combination of printer/ink/and paper.
Finally, you create a curves Adjustment in Photoshop's Soft Proofing feature to compensate for the effect the paper is going to have on the colors and brightness of your print.
If you're a religious person, at this point you pray, since you're not printing on an Epson.

  • IPhone photos have blue tint

I haven't used the camera much but recently took some photos of flowers in my backyard and discovered most are tinted bluish. I had read in other forums and seen examples of this problem that others were having so decided to check mine out.
Should I return my phone to the Apple store, even though I am past the 14 day exchange date? What will they do? This is the only problem I have had with the phone and I don't want to get one that is worse.

    Hi Bluesygirl,
This is most likely an auto white balance problem. Your hunch about experimenting in different lighting conditions is a good one. All digital cameras have problems adjusting their auto white balance, or color temperature. Some do better than others. The $5000 Leica M8 has lousy auto white balance according to many owners. But it has presets for different lighting conditions, such as daylight, cloudy, tungsten, flourescent, etc. It also has the ability to shoot in Raw, where you CAN alter the white balance after the fact without a problem. But this involves more time at the computer.
The iPhone camera does not have presets for white balance. So your only option is to attempt to post process the image in iPhoto or another imaging editing software. The temperature slider in iPhoto is the white balance adjustment. You can also play with levels and tint. The problem here is that a jpeg image has already thrown out a lot of the color data with compression, and adjustments after the fact are hit and miss.
It could be a software problem that will be improved upon, or even a hardware problem that iPhoneatlas speculates on without providing any evidence, but as an amateur photographer I can tell you this is very common among all digital cameras that don't have the option to preset the color temperature.
If you want to get into photography with a little point and shoot I would recommend a Fuji f30 ($300) or f20 (going for about $150 now) for super pics under varied lighting conditions, including the amazing ability to take them in extreme low light without a flash. You will be impressed.
But as far as the iPhone camera is concerned, it is what it is, a 2mp (I paid $500 7 years ago for my first digital, a 2mp model) fixed focus camera that only has auto white balance, a far from perfect solution to shooting in varied lighting conditions.

  • I'm getting a blue tint when I print a certain paper

Recently I noticed that when I print on a certain paper (Epson Premium Ultra Luster Photo Paper) that a blue tint is being printed on the paper along with the image. This seems to be occurring whether I use a standard .icc file or a customized .icc file for this paper. Am using Adobe CS5 to manage colors, rendering intent relative colorometric. Am using an iMac with 10.6.8. and Epson 3880 printer. The only thing I can think that changed is I upgraded from 10.5 to 10.6 a few months back. If you look along the sides of the image below you can see what I'm getting.
Just for the heck of it, I just printed the same image with Photoshop Elements 9, and I am not getting this blue cast.

This is not going to help you, but I have never liked printing direct from Photoshop.  I use a Canon 9000 Pro, which came with an application called Easy Photo Print Pro, which other than being a ting bit more work to print an exact size, always gets colour how light/dark the print is, spot on every time.
I see Epsom have updated their guides to include PS CC.  I wonder if they have updated paper profiles.

  • Is there any way to print a photo from my iphone on plain paper on my photosmart plus printer?

Whenever I try to use Airprint to print a photo from my iPhone to my Photosmart Plus printer, it tries to print it on photo paper from the photo paper tray.
I want it to print on the plain paper in the regular tray.
I read online where this is possible with the iPrint app - but when I went to the App Store, there is no iPrint App.  I found a sticky post here saying that it has been removed from the App Store in anticipation of a new ePrint Home & Business version that won't be available everywhere until September.
So, in the meantime, is there anyway to change the location of where the photos from the iPhone print?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

    HI
Most likely their is not, as printing pictures is standard set to photopaper as you most likely need good quality. Pictures on normal paper are not considered good quaity and thus not set as standard.

    Hi -
I can't tell from your post which specific jam you are experiencing.
I found the following on the HP.com support web site at
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&objectID=c01450544&jumpi...
On this page are a lot of possible jam causes and solutions.  This one is a description I think sounds similar to your report.
    Common causes of jams
Cause: When printing on lightweight paper or on jobs with heavy toner coverage, paper is wrapping on the fuser causing Fuser Delay Jam or Fuser Wrap Jam messages.
Solution: Set the LIGHT MEDIA optimize mode on the Print Quality menu to ON .

  • Bug: c410b - hp photo print gadget 2.0 32bit does not have plain paper in drop down

    printer:  c410b
    os:  windows 7 ultimate 32bit
hp photo print sidebar gadget does not have plain paper in the paper type drop down and also resets itself to default if you close and re-open the gadget.
also, if i select the 'fax' bit of it...  plain paper become available.  return to the 'non-fax' bit...  it reverts to only the glossy paper types.
also tested the old 2008 dated gadget that i found buried on your ftp server.  same behaviour.
64 bit does and works perfectly.
verified on 5 machines.  latest 'full' exe used to install.  never touched the cd.
same behaviour after removing and re-installing the gadget with the download file from hp web site.
edit:  for any hp staff - online chat with your tech (who couldn't help) reference is 8590546

bump.  got an email today saying to call HP in the USA because I have the wrong printer settings.  they also quoted a c410a even though i told them numerous times a c410b.
number 1 - i'm in the UK and don't want to call USA to be on hold for an hour for some college-drop-out to tell me *i'm* wrong.
number 2 - 5 32bit machines and i went round to a different location and tried 3 more machines there.  same.
number 3 - *what* setting?  you install the gadget, click the options 'wrench' and the paper types are in there...  *everything* else on the printer works...  just not the 32 bit gadget - no plain paper available to choose and paper tray keeps reverting to photo tray.
number 4 - it works on several 64 bit machines, with the same settings.
i'm guessing a system-locale issue where the gadget doesn't poll the driver properly for UK paper sizes or something.
    any help?  anyone?

  • What uses less ink, plain paper fast draft, or photo paper best.

What uses less ink, plain paper fast draft, or photo paper best.  I'm not looking for quality, just less ink used.  I also used photo paper, then selected plain paper fast draft.  Not great quality, as expected, but still looking to use less ink.  My guess is the plain paper uses more, because it is more porous. My printer is an hp Deskjet 2050.  My operating system is, 64-bit Intel Core I-7-2670 QM.
    Thank You for any assistance

The printer will put droplets of ink on the page based on what it detects the media is (for printers with "Automatic" as a paper type) or the specified media in the driver.
If you select plain paper, draft and print on photo paper it would use the same amount of ink as if you put in plain paper.  The results are likely to be very very poor if you do that, for several reasons:
The pigmented black ink is not compatible with photo paper, it will not dry properly.  When photo media is selected the printer will not use the pigmentd black ink even to print text, it will mix color to make black.
It takes much more ink to give proper photo settings on photo paper as compared to plain paper.  Using plain paper draft settings is likely to result in an unusable photo paper page, ruining a $1 sheet of photo paper to save a $0.20 worth of ink - not a good tradeoff.
If you plan to print a lot of photo's you might consider a printer that uses the HP Ink advantage subscription service.  This service is based on pages printed, and they count photo pages the same as plain paper, even though a full page photo may use 10x or more the ink of a plain paper text page.

  • HP Photosmart B210a will not print black ink on plain paper... only on photo paper.

Hi, I have an HP Photosmart B210a that wont print black ink.  I have used a whole set of ink cartridges by cleaning the print heads, allignment etc.  I just installed ALL NEW cartridges and the sae thing is ocurring. I have replaced plenty of cartridges and am experienced.  Just all of a sudden one day the printer stopped printing black ink on plain paper documents like with MS Word, excel and PDF, etc.  It's not set to greyscale either, actually it wont even print grey!  However, if I go to a photo with plenty of black in it, it will print it JUST FINE!!!  I'm at my wits end! I have followed EVERY head cleaning advice in the forums but it will not print black in except on photos... Please help!!!!

The document here may help, although you have likley already done most of the steps.  Be sure to check the vents.  If the above does not resolve black not printing on your Photosmart b210a the post here may help.
The black cartridge uses pigmented ink which is not compatible with photo paper.  Although the printer appears to be printing black properly on photo paper it is actually using color mixed together to produce black in this case.

  • Photosmart 7520 print photo from iphone to plain paper

I have a photosmart 7520 and I would like to print picture from iphone and bypass photo cartridge and print on standard paper. Thanks

    Hi,
I'm not sure that you'll be able to bypass the photo cartridge as the plain papaer print will use the same colours.
In order to get the printer to use plain paper instead of photo paper the best approach would be to use the HP e-Print app as the inbuilt Airprint has limited paper size/source options.
I've included a link on how to setup e-Print here: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/support-topics/mobile-printing/how-to-print-mobile-devices-ipad-iphone.html...

  • Printer won't print black ink on plain paper but WILL on photo paper.

Suddenly my printer stopped printing black text, main tray.  I put in a new cartridge, clean print heads, cleaned screen, reset the printer, etc., etc. Then I found it WILL print text in black on photo paper in main tray.  It will print colored text, it just WILL NOT print black text on plain paper, I have tried different brands of plain paper.  No difference.  I have tried different quality settings, I have deleted and re-installed the printer, update software, prayed, etc.  Even tried wired and wireless connections. I give up.  Please help.

    Hi @plutolover2011
I'd like to help you be able to print again. I understand your colored cartridges are working, but the black ink is not.  Please begin with the steps in the following document; Printer Prints a Blank Page or Does Not Print Black or Color Ink for the HP Photosmart Premium C309a...
If you complete all of the steps in the document above and the issue continues, my own personal recommendation, not one of HPs, is to use the solution offered in the following video.  I only suggest doing this if he printer and printhead are out of warranty.  Hot Water Printhead Flush - HP Ink Series Printers with removable Printhead.
I have recommended this solution to others and have seen success, but I can not guarantee this will resolve the issue, it is an end of the line kind of effort. I hope it helps.

Although the printer might be out of warranty, if the issue persists, HP may be able to offer you something. Maybe they can offer you a discount on a newer model, or discuss the option of replacing the printhead!  If after all of our efforts the issue remains, I suggest calling HP. If you are in Canada or US call 800 474 6836, or you can Contact HP Worldwide.
Thanks for reaching out to the HP Forums. I hope one of my recommendations resolves the issue.

  • How to print red color in plain paper?

When printed on glossy papers, red color (in photo or text) looks great.
When I print on non-photo, plain papers, red color came out brownish.
I tried on premium ink jet papers, it does not print red but in brown color.
How can I print red color in plain paper?

When dealing with printing ink, R=100m+100y+0c+0k. What drives the color toward rust, maroon, and brown is the addition of c to the mix. That may be the result of the diffuse reflection of the uncoated paper surface, its absorb rate, the ink chemistry and – the light source. Since the easiest variable to test is the light source, look at that color using a source weak in blue emission, incandescent light, and watch the red shift. Remember also that the reflected color will never be as bright as paper it is printed on. Each ink film is a filter subtracting light from the paper reflection.
Shown above (with a mode change to RGB for the purpose of this display) is its version of 100 each of m+ y  and a patch with the unwanted c

  • Can't select plain paper on HP Officejet Pro L7600

Hi, I have an HP Officejet Pro L7600, and when I try to select the paper type/quality, I can only select photo papers. All the other selections are greyed out. I don't have photo paper, I just want to print on regular paper. Anyone know how to fix this?
    Thanks
    Bob

This has been driving me nuts! I'm having this problem as well with my HP Photosmart C4385 with my old iMac (1GHz G4, 10.4.11). The weird thing is that I can choose all paper options, including "Plain Paper", only in Microsoft Word 2004 (but not in Excel or Powerpoint!). There seems to be a conflict in the (admin) account I use, because when I log into another admin account, all paper options are available in all applications. I also don't have any problems printing from my Macbook Pro (10.5.4).
I've tried removing all entries from the Login Items list (in the Accounts Sys Pref), removed add-on system preferences, emptied caches, repaired permissions, uninstalled and reinstalled the Photosmart drivers (from the CD that came with the printer and the latest download from HP), and used the trial version of "Printer Setup Repair", all for naught.

  • Photosmart C7280 All-In-One & feed other than plain paper

I have a HP Photosmart C7280 All-In-One printer. This printer is supposed to be a photo printer however the paper feeder does not accept any paper other than plain paper. i have purchased some a4 heat transfer paper but the paper feeder does not pick it up. there ae options in the print settings to change the type and thickness of the paper being used but it seems useless. and there is no manual paper feeder so it renders this printer a basic plain paper printer which is to what it is advertised to be. it is part of my business that i am able to print on paper that is the thickess of glossy photo paper and cards for invitations which is certainly why i purchased this model. Any assistanve ou can provide would be greatly apprecited. thanks.

Sorry you are having this problem. I have  a C7280 and have printed from main paper tray on thick card-stock paper, photo pape, heavy greeting card stock and iron on transfer paper without any problem . I did not have to change any settings except the printing type (I normally use fast economical printing) and paper type (if appropriate) on the printer document properties page and printing shortcuts tab.I think you need to get on the live chat with a technician because you should not be having this problem. I have had good experiences with live chat.
The smaller photo paper tray works fine for me too with the special sized photo paper.
This may not help much but it shows the paper handling specs...

  • Tweak color profile when printing on plain paper?

If Im unhappy with the colors when printing on plain paper, can it be changed?
..this is on a five cart Photosmart Premium c410a that uses 564 tanks.
In particular, yellow is too dark, a bit "orangy" and photos are a bit weird: sky looks slightly smoggy brown.
In other words my question is if its possible to  tweak the color profile the HP driver uses when printing using plain paper -- for daily use.

Have you found a solution to this? I'm wondering if the same can be done for the photo prints as well...when I print photos, they turn out darker and have a purple-hue to them. Please let me know, I look forward to hearing from you.

  • No Plain Paper print option when printing on small size papers

    Hi,
I am using an Officejet 100 and an Officejet 6500 on a MacBook Pro, Mac OS X 10.5.8. HP Printer Driver version is 12.4.
I need to print on plain paper using paper sizes A6 or 4"x6". The print window of the driver does not give a plain paper option (it is greyed).
Hence, I have to use some photo paper setting even though printing on plain paper.
    That is just too slow!
Is there any way to get the printer driver to allow the plain paper setting on A4 or 4"x6"?
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Hello @bdosfan1 , and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you are experiencing driver issues.  I would like to help!
I would suggest deleting the printer from your print system, using this document: Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Once you have deleted it, I would suggest verifying and repairing the disk permissions: About Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions feature.
I would also suggest running your Apple updates:  OS X: Updating OS X and Mac App Store apps
After the updates, I would recommend reinstalling the HP Officejet Full Feature Software and Driver - Mac OS X 10.5.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!
