Plain text ASCII format file

This may be slightly off-topic, but I'm hoping maybe someone knows the answer:
I received a license for the Messiah animation suite as part of a one-time offer, and it says to paste the License text "into a text file... (this file must be a plain text ASCII format file, NOT Rich Text or doc)."
I have Microsoft Office 2008. It has a Plain Text (.txt) format, but googling there seems to be some uncertainty if in Mac it is plain text ASCII format. The TextEdit app I'm not sure of either I'm pretty sure isn't.
Anyone got a solution?
Thanks!

The problem is whether that version of .txt or the MS Office 2008 is actually ASCII format or unicode.
I don't think that is the issue, since ascii and unicode are identical for the usual 26 letters and 10 digits that are probably in the license text. The point is that it be .txt and not .doc or .rtf or .html, which has all kinds of other junk added to the real content. I would use TextEdit set to Plain text.

    Hi,
    You have the choice between xml or pdf, in later versions of designer you can choose with a dropdown on the email button Object palette, the "Submit As";
    In earlier version you had to edit the XML Source and change the format from xml to pdf (or vice-versa);

  • BIP report in plain text/fixed format.

    Hi,
Is there an option for a BIP report to go out in plain text/fixed format. I dont see that option in the drop down where we select the format and view/send/schedule reports. Is this plain text/fixed format available in BIP at all? Also if I need to send/schedule a report with report name+date...can BIP do that? Please adivce. Thanks.

There is no plain text format.
Fixed format means you can select the format you need from the Limited Output Format. If You select only PDF for example the user able to see only the PDF output.
While You schedule the Report under the Report parameter tab
you will get the Template and the Format option .There u can select the Format you want to send.

  • May ID isolate tables from plain text in a file?

In a big Word file it seems necessary to isolate the tables from the rest of paragraphs.
Unfortunately the body style applied to both is the same style.
Have tables some formatting element to get only them?

    Yes, a new thread...
Just we have a huge file with text and tables and need to place the tables at the end of the book. Just the tables. Plain text at the beginning.
Import options for text surely allows to place only text (unchecking graphs)  but it is not an option to place only graphics, as far as we tried in the menu.*
    Thank you.
*Furthermore, the Word brings the same style applied to tables and text... Book has to be managed in two parts.

  • Password displayed in plain text in sql file

    Hi all,
I have a shell script that calls another sql file to connect to the database and do some queries. The username and password used to connect to the databse are in plain text in the sql file. My question is how can I hide these parameters in the sql file and be able to connect to the database.
    Thanks in advance.

Oracle have something to do such thing : Secure External Password Store
Laurent Schneider posted an example of usage on his blog : sqlnet.wallet_override=true
Or you have an external tool : Oracle Password Repository which seems easy to use.

  • Format file problem uploading electronic bank statement files FF_5 RFEBKA00

    hello
I am facing a problem when uploading electronic bank statement files with the file format. The situation is as follows:
1- Electronic bank statement files are sent by FTP from the bank to a certain directory in AL11
2- we have developed a "z" program that just picks electronic bank statement files from AL11 directory and process them using standard FF_5 (RFEBKA00) program.
3- When processing some files had an error, when debugging we have verified that errors are caused by some "special" characters non Unicode as "®" (=Hex'AE') with UTF-8, a '#' is displayed.
SAP answers a question as follows:
    AL11 is designed to display os-files (log-files, trace-files etc.)
from within the SAP-system for supporting purposes in order not to
    logon to the os itself.
It was not designed to display any file-content in the system created
    with any code-page.
AL11 opens the file in textmode with encoding option default, which
means UTF-8 in a unicode system and NON-UNICODE in the other case.
    You cannot change this setting.
If you have the need to specify these options, depending on your files,
you can make a copy of report RSWATCH0 and customize the OPEN-statement
    to yor needs.
On a Unicode system, the files need to be in Unicode format (UTF-8).
    Eg:When you interpret a non-Unicode "®" (=Hex'AE') with UTF-8, a '#' is
    displayed.
    Case 1:
Who is creating those files? Are these files
    1) created by you
    2) are they written by a SAP application?
==>There are the notes 752835 and 747615 for cases like these.
In case 2) it may be that the application responsible for the file
download (not AL11!) should be the problem, considering note 752835.
There is also the possibility for you to convert the file to the correct format using our tool RSCP_CONVERT_FILE (note 747615).
System administrator has told me to copy standard RFEBKA00 program and modify the OPEN-statement but I am not agree because I think that the problem is when generating the files in bank's system and/or sending the files to SAP by FTP.
Does any body face a problem like this before? Any ideas?
    Thanks a lot

    Hello,
The files that are available in AL11 are in Unicode.
Can you convert them to text by using the following method and then try:
You must have mapped this directory and having access.
    Right click on file
    Open with: Microsoft Office Word
Then the pop-up comes: File conversion - bacs
    Select Other encoding radio button
    Then select "Unicode" from list
    and say OK
Now the file is being opened in readable format:
    File SAVE as PLAIN TEXT
Save the file in the same folder that you are referring to in AL11
Now if you try with this .txt file, it should work in FF_5
    Thanks,
    Ravi

  • Number format changed after opening a plain text file in Excel

    Hi,
I have an urget need to understand about how to open a plain text file in Excel with numbers displayed as is. The text file is tab delimited. Right now, extra digits (0, or 00 ) are added. For example, 31:16 from text file is displayed as 31:16:00,
15:0 becomes 15:00, 6:5 becomes 6:05. How to display the numbers as they are in the original text file?
Thank you very much for the help.
    Amy

    This is a annoying problem.
Excel will try to guess the data type if you leave the cell formatting as general. This happens a lot with specific numerical entries that could be confused as dates.e.g. 12:0,1-5 etc.Unfortunatley We can't tell Excel to stop reading it as a date, but what you
can do is tell it to display the date how you want it.
In addtion,in order to avoid confusion and keep track of troubleshooting steps, we usually troubleshoot one issue per thread. So if you need any further help, please create a new post. Thanks for your understanding.

  • DECODING MAIL FROM WEB SERVER IN PLAIN TEXT FORMAT(THE MAIL BEING SENT BY LABVIEW APPLICATION)

    Hi All
I have a labview application that send mail every hour automatically.
But actually the mail has to be decoded from the web server(by another application). But now when that application decode the data in the mail(that is send by labview application)its getting some funny characters inside that can not be detected by the decoding application
(When open the mail no problem.)But actually our goal is to decode the mail from the web server.
Why the extra characters are appearing when decoding from the server? Is it because of the HTML format?
Is there option to send the mail in plain text format(not like attachment)?
In outlook we can change the setting (tools->options->send->mail sending format->....here we can set as HTML format/Plain Text format)
Like that at the sending time can i chenge the sending option as plain text format in my labview application?
    Thanks...

    smercurio_fc wrote:
Then it sounds to me like this other application is not decoding the attachment correctly, especially if you looked at the attachment yourself after you received it and verified it's correct.
No, no, smercurio. This is charcter encoding here. In older versions of LabVIEW you could specify what character encoding to use when sending an email through the SMTP VIs. But that gave problems since people in certain locales used certain characters that where not transfered right when the wrong encoding was specified, and that encoding stuff is not understood by most people at all, so the wrong selected encoding was rather the rule than the exception. In newer versions of LabVIEW do the SMTP VIs handle the encoding automatically based on the currently used locale on the system.
This change is documented in the Upgrade Notes of LabVIEW and probably happened around LabVIEW 7.1 or 8.0.
A decent mail client will recognize the encoding and convert it back to whatever is necessary before presenting it to the user. The OPs posters server application obviously isn't a smart mail client but probably just some crude text file parser that has no notion of proper mail character encoding and how to deal with it.
I would suppose that there is a chance to dig into the SMTP VIs itself and try to manipulate or disable that encoding altogether in there but that may open a whole can of worms somewhere else. The proper way would be to process the incoming mail by a character encoding aware mail client before passing it to the text parser. On Unix setting up something like this would be fairly trivial.

  • How can I read the bootstrap files and extract the fragment-URLs and fragment-numbers in plain text?

How can I read the bootstrap files of any HDS Live stream and extract the fragment-URLs and fragment-numbers in plain text?
Could it be that it is some kind of compressed format in the bootstrap? Can I uncompress it wirh  f4fpackager.exe? Could not find any download for f4fpackager.exe. I would prefere less code to do so. Is there something in Java of JavaScript, that can extract the fragment-numbers?
    Thank you!

Doesn't sound too hard to me. Your class User (the convention says to capitalize class names) will have an ArrayList or Vector in it to represent the queue, and a method to store a Packet object into the List. An array or ArrayList or Vector will hold the 10 user objects. You will find the right user object from packet.user_id and call the method.
Please try to write some code yourself. You won't learn anything from having someone else write it for you. Look at sample code using ArrayList and Vector, there's plenty out there. Post in the forum again if your code turns out not to behave.

  • IPhoto sends emails in Rich format even if the default format is Plain Text

Detailed Summary (wouldn't fit in the Topic Subject):
iPhoto will always send emails in Rich Text format even if Mail application is set to send all emails in Plain Text format. In other words, emails initiated from iPhoto ignore the selected Message Format setting in the Mail application.
    Description:
It is a better practice to email photos in the Plain Text format instead of Rich Text format so recipients using different email clients can easily download attached pictures as regular attached files.
The workaround is to change the email format to Plain Text before sending it. This wouldn't be such a problem if you could make this a permanent setting however this is not possible. The Mail application has a specific setting for this but iPhoto simply ignores it. This is the issue I am raising here.
    How to reproduce the problem:
    1. Open the Mail application (Assuming you already have an email account configured)
    2. Go to Preferences, Composing tab
    3. Change Message Format to "Plain Text"
    4. Optional step to verify that the Plain Text is now the default format: Start a new email. Click on menu Format and you'll see "Make Rich Text" available, which means the current email is in fact in Text Format. Close this email.
    5. Open iPhoto
    6. Select one or more photos and click on the "Email" icon on the lower right hand side
    7. A details popup will open, click on "Compose Message"
    8. The Mail application will open as well as a New Email window with the Subject field filled out and the selected photos in the email body
    9. Click on the menu Format
Expected: Th last option should be "Make Rich Text" indicating that the current email is in Plain Text format as determined by the Mail settings (steps 1-5 above)
Actual: Last option is "Make Plain Text" which means the current email is fact in the Rich Text format which does not match the Mail application settings.
Can we at least get an acknowledgement from Apple that this is a known issue? Also, is there a fix for this? It is not an acceptable solution to tell users to manually select Plain Text for every email. I am tired of asking people to resend emails that way. That is a workaround, not a solution.
    Test details:
    - Mail Version 4.4 (1082)
    - iPhoto Version 8.1.2 (424)
    - OSX Version 10.6.5

iPhoto menu -> Provide iPhoto Feedback to report a bug.
Can we at least get an acknowledgement from Apple that this is a known issue?
Need to ask Apple that one.

  • Save results of javascript operation to a plain text file

    Hi,
How do you save to a file using Acrobat javascript? Not a PDF file - I know how to do that - but to a plain text file.
I have javascript that searches through a PDF document and generates some output. I can send the output to a Report (in PDF format, obviously) or to the console, but I can't see how to send it to a plain text file, which is what I need.
    Any assistance gratefully appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Tim.

Ah, great, yes that seems to do what I want.
However, I get an error ...
    My code is as follows:
    function CreateOutput()
// assembles text and puts it into the variable: output
         // e.g.:
         output = "Hello, world";
    var output = "";
    CreateOutput();
    this.createDataObject("testfile.txt", output);
Unfortunately I get this error and I don't understand it!
InvalidGetError: Get not possible, invalid or unknown.

Obviously I'm doing somethign wrong ... but what?
    Thanks very much,

  • A string that can be displayed as both ASCII and hex in an indicator will only save the data to a file in ASCII format

We can see the data in an indicator just fine, but when we try to write that string of hexadecimal data to a file, it will only save the data in ASCII format.
This sounds fairly simple, as the indicator can be selected to display the data in several different formats (VI>Properties>Appearance>Display Style: Normal, Backslash...., Hexadecimal).  However, I have been unable, as of yet, to save the data in different formats.
