Plain Text will not display correctly, how can i edit html?

Hello,
my beloved MacBook Pro has been a godsend, however i have found that it is incapable of displaying Plain Text, in Text Edit, Safari (View Source), or Dreamweaver's code view. Thus, i am finding it impossible to view or edit html.
the way it displays is either all jumbled and overlapping, or spread out over impossible distances. sadly i cannot post a picture.
we also have a G3 and a G4 in the house, both running 10.3, and they also have the same issue with plain text.
I have not found any topic on this, here or in google. can someone please help?

Tom, very kindly, has got me most of the way to a happy ending.
one or another font file or cache was causing the problem. i removed all fonts from Home/Library/Fonts, then ran FontFinagler, rebooted, and things display correctly.
now i must figure out how to establish which fonts are suitable suitcases to be used.

Messages have stopped displaying correctly, or, in some case, at all. The messages have downloaded OK. Even messages which were displaying correctly earlier, now don't. It occurred after 'finger' problems - I tried to type something into Firefox but failed to change focus from Thunderbird to Firefox first and have obviously changed some setting. What can I do to restore normal behaviour?
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and even deleting all references I can find to Thunderbird from the AppData folders in the users directory all to no avail.

Thank you for the suggestions. They did not cure the problem, but that is because I think now that there is no problem; Thunderbird is working normally. It appears to have had a temporary glitch and has corrupted 8 or 9 messages around the one I was viewing when I hit wrong keys. The corrupted messages seem to contain the headers of dozens of other messages, some quite old. Apart from those few messages, all others in the root inbox folder and in all sub-folders seem OK.

ITunes will not install correctly, How can i fix this?

I just got a new computer and want to install iTunes. It says im able to download the 64bit for a windows 7 i believe but everytime i try to install it, it just says a public file could not be located or something like that. I have no idea what that means and clueless of what to do. Anyone know how to fix this problem?

Two different versions of AI, two versions of the text engine. If you are running version 17, then it is CC, not CS6 which is version 16.

Adobe Illustrator file will not display correctly when logged in as a user

I am working with an Adobe Illustrator CS2 file that will open and display correctly if I log in as Administrator, but will not display correctly if I am logged on as a user. The error message is that there is not enough memory to display the file correctly and I am forced into preview mode. The user Home folder is on a server. Other than this, I have made certain that the criteria for opening the file match under both interfaces. I have opened the AI CS2 file on other Macs and it opens fine. I conclude that the problem is with the user Home folder, but beyond that, I'm stumped. Any help will be appreciated.

I no longer have an email address that was also my Apple ID. Can I still use the email address as my Apple ID?
Apple recommends you change your Apple ID to your current, working email address. This will not create another Apple ID, it will only change it to your working email address. See Changing the name you use for your Apple ID if you'd like more information.
Note: @mac.com and @me.com Apple IDs can not be renamed. If you no longer use the .mac or .me email address be sure to add your valid email address as an additional email address.

If the banner image is not displaying, it is either not in an acceptable web file format (optimized for web as jpg, gif or png). Or it is corrupted. Or the path to the image file on server is broken.

Try running these songs through MP3 Validator to see if there any issues.
If nothing else, convert them to another format such as AAC via iTunes using the instructions in this Apple support document.

Locked on an update can mean a couple of different things. So there are a number of things to try, but start with these.
If you have a "waiting" icon, try tapping on the icon and see if you can pause the update/download. Of it pauses, tap on it again and see if it will resume.
Try holding down on the icon until all of the icons on the screen wiggle. If the X to delete pops up on the waiting/stalled app - tap the X to delete the app. Tao,the home button and the apps will stop wiggling.
You can also try this and see if the downloads will resume. Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

I have had this problem for close to a year. I have an Extreme base station, two Airport Express's and multiple G4 Mac's with up to date software. First, see if the download is paused and if you can resume it. To do so, open the Mac App Store, go to Purchases and press "Resume" next to OS X Mavericks.
If the download does not carry on, I would recommend you to restart and start the download all over again.
