Plain White Screen

Yesterday, or the day before, i had my 2nd Gen iPod nano in the lock setting, but i accidently plugged it into my iHome, and as soon as it did, the screen went blank white and wouldn't show me anything. The music quality is fine and all, but i can't see anything and it's hard to select my songs. I've reset it, and restore'd it, and even updated my iTunes software and still nothing. any help?

Any help here?

I was just using my iPhone and i guess when i put it down i might of hit it against something and now i am only getting a plain white screen, but i can still unlock it and accept calls by sliding it in the right place.
Is there anyway to fix this at home or must i go to an apple store to resolve this issue

thankfully yes spyfly, you need to try to remember exactly what happened when you hit it against something, and hit it with equal force from the opposite side. let me know how this works.
also, just to put it out there, i am also having trouble with my 6 digit code corrupting and failing to work. however, after a restart it works. i am required to use this because i use exchange with my company. come on apple??? this is the coolest but BUGGIEST phone i've ever owned. ever. the new blackberry is looking kinda cool...

  • 8900 Displays Plain White Screen

Hi!  I've had my 8900 for two years.  I really love the phone, but around the beginning of December 2010, it started doing something funky.  It seems that when I am either talking on the phone for a long period of time (around 15 minutes or so) or in the middle of a movie or while taking a video, the phone will go to a plain white screen, and it is impossible to turn it off or have any other interaction.  In short, it freezes on that white screen.  At other times, it will power itself off, and it also appears frozen, with no possible interaction.  In either case, when I remove the battery for a few minutes and replace it, sometimes it comes back on, and other times I have to plug it into a charger, whether it's a USB cable or AC charger.  In any case, I may have started with a full battery, but after this, the battery now only shows three and a half of five battery blocks.  This is not limited to the OS, since it happened with the original OS back in December (4.6) and continues to occur now that I have upgraded to OS 5.  It seems to be hardware related.  Has anyone else encountered this or found a fix for it?  Thanks!

if you read through the link I posted it tells the reader how to reload the OS which will likely as not cure the problem.

  • Lenovo EasyCamera displays plain white screen

I have a Lenovo G570 (4334) laptop, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. The webcam worked fine for a few months. Softwares, e.g Skype, YM, Facebook, YouCam can detect the camera but when the video window pops up, it is just plain white. Fn+Esc works, I can disable and enable the camera.
Everything's updated. Uninstalled and installed the drivers again, and did possible solutions. Still, it displays nothing (plain white). I already checked Device Manager and it says "This device is working properly". I tried doing a video but it only recorded the audio. What should I do? Are Lenovo drivers and Win7 having compatibility issues?
    Please, HELP me.

  • Plain white screen on ipod touch

problems with display screen...Its just lit up white and you can even turn it off

If you restored to factory settings/new iPod via iTunes (Not via Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Setting) and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.
Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store..

Replacing the screen would likely fix the problem but it could also be due to another hardware problem.

  • Login screen on Yosemite remains plain white instead of blurred wallpaper

    Hello,
My login screen on updating OSX Yosemite remains plain white instead of being colorful blur image of my desktop. I tried several options, but couldn't fix the issue. It remains colorful when put to sleep but not on restart. My friends' login screen is still the blurred image of desktop on updating to Yosemite. COuld someone suggest me a way to fix this issue. I dont like the plain white screen upon login.

I had my normal desktop background showing up at login (only one account), but I changed a desktop to a solid color for a presentation and then back to the original image afterwards. After doing that, my login screen now shows the solid blue that I used, even though no desktops are set to the solid color anymore.
Not a solution... but I have absolutely no idea where it is pulling that solid blue background from, and I would guess its probably the same as where its pulling your mismatched login screen from.
edit -- the solid color is only when the computer has been fully shut down; for sleep/lock/etc I get my background image. But, I did used to get my normal image as a login background after fully shutting down.

  • This is my first mac, it is a macbook pro. i restarted it but when it started back up i saw a white screen and then it prompted me to insert the reboot disk. anyone else have this problem?

I recently bought a Macbook Pro, this is my first Mac. I restarted it, but when it started back there was a plain white screen and then it prompted me to insert the reboot disk. Has anyone else had this problem and is there a way to do this manually like with PC's?

The new Mac's came with OS X Lion 10.7 and there are no boot disks.
Since it's so new, take it back to the Apple Store and let them deal with it.
If not you can hold Command and r (as in rotten) keys down and boot the computer.
You'll be presented with a several options, including one to reinstall OS X Lion provided you have a Apple ID, which means you have to use Safari in there to set one up. To do that you need to set up a email account with Google or Yahoo. Once you get the ID, then you can download Lion and reinstall it.
It's so stupid not having a copy of the OS on hand to perform your own repairs.
Of course Apple will be happy to sell you a $69 Lion USB stick.
Like I said, take it back to the store, and try to get your money back, that will force them to think about just giving you a replacement machine that works.
Lion doesn't work really but it can be acceptable until the patches get released.

  • IPod 4th Gen has white screen after replacement, and restore

Okay. Here's the problem. A while ago, I dropped my iPod, and it's screen cracked. I've been living with it ever since perfectly, but just with a cracked screen. Now, I ordered a new screen, and I begin to replace it. I knew how, and like an easy job, I did it pretty quick compared to others. After both ribbon cables where in, I pressed the lock button, and my iPod had a white screen. I was a little worried about that, so, I tried to reattach the screen. Now it was just black, after even using the home and lock button restart method. Eventually I got it back up and to the white screen by draining the battery and recharging, and there I was again, stuck. I looked at some forums on the internet to try to see if anyone had my problem. After clicking on the first link, it turns out, alot of people had this problem as well as me. The solution they said was pressing the home button and lock button for about 10 or so seconds, and then it goes to the apple screen and is all better again. I tried it, and my home button broke. Great. So, now I had to use the little button that the home button was pressing down to try the solution. Tried it, and, nothing. Still the blank, plain, white screen. Looked some more and saw that pressing the home and lock buttons along with the volume up button worked for some people too. Tried it, worked just as good as the previous one. Nothing. I even tried some person's idea of doing home, then volume up, then lock, in different timed stages. Nothing. I also saw people begging for them not to restore their iPods and begging for a solution. I was fine with a restore, I just had games that I played on my iPhone as well. So, I went with it, and restored it, without any backups, just going to factory mode. Afterwards I heard my iPod make the iOS "plugged in" sound, and anxiously tried the lock button. Still had the white screen. STILL. Now, I'm here, begging for a solution like others, with an iPod that won't function properly. Can someone please help me?

No nothing like that happened, I'm sure, but I actually spent the day looking for a fix. Luckily, I had the idea of taping the spring down because I though the screen didn't touch it. Turns out I was right, but however, I found out that the screen I ordered was broken in a way, because it still had the white screen after the taping. Just to make sure, I tried the other screen to clarify if the taping worked or not. I did the home and lock button restart, and up popped the apple logo. So, that means that the screen I got from the seller was either a rip-off, or was just broken somehow in process of making, or delivering in some matter. Unfortunately, I think I can't ship it back unless for alot of money because the person I got it from comes from China. I live in the USA. So that's gonna be a matter to work with myself. Thank you for trying to help.

  • White Screen of Death (or coma, at least)

    Hi everyone,
I've been searching all over the place for a couple of days and no solution to the following situation has worked as of yet, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Brand new installation of Snow Leopard on a late 2006 24" white iMac with 4GB of upgraded memory. Everything is running smoothly (as has been previously under Tiger and Leopard before). I went on to try and give Boot Camp a go, so I create a (recommended) 32GB partition with the assistant and reboot. Windows XP starts the installer but it goes on to tell me that it's going to install on a 13XGB partition. I get cold feet and quit from the installer. Big mistake, it seems.
The iMac reboots, chimes and that's about it. No Apple logo, no Mac OS X, no Windows XP installer. Just a plain white screen. Now, I've read about similar situations in other posts, but nothing I've read has worked so far:
-> I've tried every possible start-up keys to force all possible boot modes, as per the documentation (single user mode, verbose, safe mode, etc.)
-> I've tried Target Disk Mode with no luck
-> It doesn't boot from any OS DVD I have (the original DVDs, Leopard or Snow Leopard).
Pressing "alt" on boot will give me a cursor but no drives, not even the DVDs. Pressing "c" or "d" will make the DVD spin for a while, but nothing more. I can put my MBP on TDM and it will show up on the boot screen when pressing "alt", but to little use. I've also done all this removing the upgraded RAM and restoring the original with the same results.
If I just let it boot without pressing anything, it'll turn off just by pressing the power button; otherwise (using some start-up keys) I'll have to press it some seconds to turn it off.
Now, if I could just get to Disk Utility or even the console, I'd be a happy man.
I'm now going to try to make a bootable firewire drive with the original DVDs or any OS version that's willing to be installed on an external drive, and give that another go, with low expectations. I can't think of anything else (except from opening it and getting the hard drive, which looks way more complicated that on the G5s).
Again, any help or pointer would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Rafa

Ok, thanks to these two wonderful posts I got it to work:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5905884&#5905884
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1143433&start=0&tstart=0
In essence: Get a working Mac and an external Firewire drive, boot a Leopard (for example) Installation DVD and install it on the External Drive (GUID Partition + HFS+). Attach it to the dead Mac and -here's the real trick- *turn on the dead Mac and keep pushing the power button until the led light flashes and it reboots*. That will make it use the external drive. The standard "alt" start-up will not work.
From there on you can use Disk Utility to recover your Mac.

  • White screen at start, eMac

I have an older eMac (probably about 7-9 years old, I bought it used). It was working fine this morning, but when I shut it down to take a nap and restartd it this afternoon I got a plain white screen and no action. I got the usual welcome sound, but the white screen never made its way to the usual desktop art. Is there any way I can get the computer restarted? I do have some of my startup disks, but I'd upgraded to OS 10.5 and added memory chips to the machine several years ago. I do have a newer MacBook Pro, but I like using the eMac at home since it has a bigger screen (I added an external screen when the monitor in my eMac unit died) and a better keyboard. I'd also like to reclaim the data on the hard drive, if possible. I live in a remote part of Alaska, so I can't walk down to a Mac store to get this fixed. Luckily, I have been backing up most of my stuff on an external hard drive. Does anybody have any suggestions (by the way, I haven't been able to get the disc drive slot to open since the white screen appeared).

    Hello,
To open the tray try holding Mouse button down while starting, also, you can open the door at the top, look for a tiny hole to stick a straightened out paper clip in to open the tray manually.
If 10.5 be sure not to use a 10.4 or less Install Disc to repair the drive.
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
Tough without the Install disc, but some things to try...
Does it boot to Single User Mode, CMD+s keys at bootup, if so try...
    /sbin/fsck -fy
Repeat until it shows no errors fixed.
(Space between fsck AND -fy important).
Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck...

Does holding alt key at bootup show any boot options?

  • White screen on startup 2010 Macbook pro

The computer worked fine a couple of days ago, when the computer was given to me. I reformatted and reinstalled OS X through disk utility to remove all of the previous data. It worked fine up until I took it took school. When I took it out of my school bag, I thought that I had broken the LCD because of the plain white screen with nothing working; not even OS X Utilities would open. I have tried the suggestions on the apple page for "Gray screen appears during startup" but none of these do anything. I have tried everything that I can, I replaced the hard drive, tried to boot with recovery assistant thumb drive in, tried starting while holding Control R, tried holding Option key. The only things that these soloutions have gotten me is, the folder with a "?" and a cursor over the white.
I am running out of things to try here as, I do not have the CD's and I know nothing about Mac's. If anyone could help me get to the point where I could open Utilities I would be forever thankful.

Please make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service.

  • Hangs on white screen with Apple logo while booting

I can not get my Mac Pro Quad Core to boot up. It gets to the plain white screen with the Apple logo and will not go any further. I shut down the computer and unplugged it before a bad thunderstorm. Since then I haven't gotten it to boot up just once.

The Genius Bar said it was a "blip" in the OS. I just love the technical terms Apple uses. They did a repair install of Tiger. All of my software and documents seemed to have remain safely on my computer but none of my hardware was. I had to reinstall all related software for my hardware (Apogee Ensemble and wireless keyboard and mouse).
Hope this helps you Yogafreak. I could have reinstalled the OS myself but I had already carried the heavy mac pro all through the mall so I let the pros handle it. I would have preferred some service through the phone that didn't cost $50 for 30 days.

  • White Screen of Doom

    Hiya everyone.
I accidentally dropped my Video iPod(30GIG) last night off of the counter. A meer 2 some feet made my iPod stop playing and display a completely white screen. I let the battery die overnight, and I plugged it back in this morning. It did -not- boot up with the Apple logo on the black BG, directly to the white screen. My computer recognized that -something- was plugged in, and did not come up as Fleet in My Computer, but instead, "Removable Device". iTunes itself also does not recognize if there is an iPod connected. Resetting brings the iPod back to the plain white screen. iPod Updater 2006-06-28 does not see an iPod connected to the computer.
To think Apple hasn't given the thought of having an easier way to reboot, AKA, a small button hidden inside of the iPod itself, only pushable by a long, extremely slender object, or even the simple ON/OFF button, but, thats just me...
Any sort of help would be appreciated! Thanks!

(I realize that I put this up twice, but, I figured out that I posed in the wrong subsection of the forum... <.<)

Alright, so I've been doing some work, and I still haven't fixed my iPod. I went to Best Buys Geek Squad booth and they gave me a checklist since I wasn't signed up with them, nor did I buy my iPod there (pick lil mo...). Anyways, I ran through the checklist, untill I hit "Restore your iPod using the latest iPod installer." I installed iPod for Windows 2006-06-28, ran it, and got a "iPod Manager Internal Error" Message, then it closed. I reinstalled it, and instead, I got "iPod Service Error." I attempted to restore using the two previous versions, but I got the second error both times. So, I googled up the error and clicked the second search result (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716) and performed everything in there, and my iPod still does not work. (In which, by the way, I love how Apple assumes that there is a problem with the Windows OS itself. "f you have tried all the steps in this document, and the linked documents, and iPod is still not being recognized correctly by iTunes or the iPod Updater, then there is likely some other system issue on your computer. This may require you to repair or reinstall Windows." Big ole LOL to you my Apple, LOL.)
Anyways, now I suspect that since the hard drive is not making with a sort of death clicking nose, that the hard drive runs fine, and that My Computer is able to locate the iPod as "Removable Disk", I assume that either A, there is some issue on the hard drive itself, or B, there is some sort of issue within the iPod that I can not fix.
Hopefully in a little while I'll be able to go back to Best Buy, have Geek Squad do the check themselves, and have them repair it.
