Plaintalk mic

My sister can't get her plaintalk mic to work on ichat on her sawtooth G4.

The obvious things to check are in System Preferences > Sound > (Input pane)
That the external Mike is selected as a sound source, and that it shows up as producing sounds as you talk in that pane.

  • PlainTalk mic not line level?

I thought I could use my old PlainTalk mic for line level input of mono voice, but no go. Was it a long miniplug for power that is no longer available in '09 Mac mini jacks? Does appear long.
If I could understand why line level isn't line level, I think the rest of the details will fall into place.

The mini uses a standard 1/8" plug. Check out these two sights the info should be helpful:

  • Mics for the ibook

I have Audio City and use my ibooks internal mic. This is not the best, but for notes to myself it seems to work. Is there a native recording app in OSX like there was for OS 7-9? There will come a time when I will need a ibook USB mic, if one exists. Does one? Yes I am aware of the iMic or whatever it is (that I have) which allows me to hook up an external tape recorder and convert the audio to digital.
I am aware of this mic

But it costs too much. Is there a cheaper alternative? My PlainTalk mic I used for years with my Performa 6360 could record as clear as day, and did not cost a fortune.

You can use GarageBand or iMovie.
    You can also use Audacity.

  • Looking for a sound editing expert

I have a message from 1995 that was recorded on my then tape answering machine. Unfortunately I did not dub the tape to my then LC III using a audio cable, and the original tape is gone. Before the message was destroyed I recorded it to my computer using my LC III's then external mic. Not as nice as the plaintalk mic I had on my Performa 6360 but it worked.
There is a song that is playing in the background of this message that I really want to find out the name of. I no longer have any contact with the person leaving this message and frankly I do not even know if she is alive, so asking her would be impossible.
I come here because I thought that perhaps someone here can soften the message and find a way to elliminate the his that one hears. Doing such may help me find the artist. But since I lack Sound Edit Pro, or any other professional sound editing software and the know how I cannot.
    The audio file is here.
    http://johnw.freeshell.org/audio/messagefromrb.zip
The audio is in system sound (as this was the standard mac format when this was recorded).
Thanks to any that can help
    John

    Johannes,
You can certainly do it in GarageBand, although not the most ideal method I guess:
Open Garageband. Drag and drop the MP3 into the Garageband window and it will import the file. Highlight/Play the track and choose where you want to edit the track using the play marker. Choose Edit->Split to separate the bits of the track you want (repeat as appropriate). Next highlight the bits of the track you don't want to keep (you can hold down Shift to highlight multiple sections) and press delete (you may need to click off the track and back on to the bits you're deleting) - this should leave you with the bit of the track you want.
When you have finished you can export it to iTunes: File->Export to iTunes. The file in iTunes is an AIF file that you can then convert to MP3 again (and do what you like with!)
Alternatively, you could try Audacity, a free Sound Editor, at: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ (I've not used it myself yet, but I'm guessing it's a more direct method!).
    I hope that helps,
    Jon

  • Microphone for FW800

I need a recommend for a microphone for my FW800. A USB is preferable so that it is compatible with my other Macs. This would be used for Macspeech.

Actually, I had a plaintalk mic. Just didn't know what it was. It doesn't work with my FW00. Found this Mac article 18275.
Power Mac G4 (Mirrored Drive Doors and FW800), and Power Mac G5 (all models)
The microphone input jack supports line-level input signals. A microphone is not provided in the accessory kit for these computers. The previously-available Apple PlainTalk microphone is not compatible with these computers - although the PlainTalk microphone supplies a line-level signal, it does not use a standard 3.5 mm stereo miniplug, and can't be used with these systems. There are various third-party line-level microphones available that are compatible with the audio line-in port on these units, as well as third-party USB microphones that may be used via a USB connection instead. Examples of devices that provide line-level input include CD players, cassette decks, self-powered microphones, and DVD players. Griffin Technology's iMic adapter allows the use of most mic-level sound input devices.
Logitech makes a USB mic for $30-$40 that is supposed to work well

  • Need Audio Recording Advice

Hi, I currently have a Wallstreet and am using a modified Plaintalk mic to preamp my Sure SM58 Beta mic. I'm getting a 12" 1.5 Powerbook soon and I'm aware that the audio input is line level. I'm looking at M-Audio's Audio Buddy and the Fast Track. Is the Fast Track USB Audio only? It does have line-level RCA outputs, but as I primarily use Digital Performer, which doesn't support USB Audio, I'm not sure if this is what I should use. I like the idea of using a USB-powered unit as opposed to an externally-powered unit, but I'm also worried that the Powerbook's USB may not be powerful enough to support the Fast Track. Audio Buddy looks simple and straightforward. Does anyone have any experience using these products? Thanks a lot! gregor

    Hi,
Ideally, you'd have a field mixer for your audio that would have "peak limiters" on it. Shure makes some good ones, Sound Devices makes some better ones. Also, as mentioned before, a separate person to run audio is a big help if the budget allows (having to run camera is a big enough job by itself). If you can't do lavalier mics, then a good shotgun mic is essential. Note that I say a "good" one (usually starting around $300). Audio Technica and Sennheiser make very capable mics. Stay away from cheap mics if possible. They tend to be noisy and of very poor quality.
Depending on your setup, you can use a stereo mic with one side pointed at the interviewer and the other at the guest. Again, Audio Technica makes some very good ones. I've used this for interviews and even weddings with success.
If you do get a field mixer, try to monitor the audio coming from the camera after it goes to tape if at all possible (this will depend largely on your camera's output structure). This will give you the most accurate idea of what you're really getting...
    Darth Brian
p.s. A little trick if you're just using one mic is to split the signal (left and right on your mixer) then set one side to where you think the levels are good. Set the other side a little bit lower for a safety margin. Now if somebody coughs, laughs too loud, or yells, you have the ability in post production to use the "quieter" track for that instant without having distortion or silence.

  • How do I use an external mic with the iPad4?

How do I connect an external mic to the new iPad4? Older models seem to have worked, but the lightning connector causes a lot of problems. I would like to use my Zoom H1 with my iPad4 and GarageBand. Any ideas? Thanks so much!

  • AS2 Receiver Error: MIC not verified # unexpected-processing-error

When sending out a test message using Seeburger AS2 receiver channel I get the following error:
    MIC not verified # unexpected-processing-error
So obviously this problem is related to digital signature I think? However I get the same error even if digital signature is deactivated in the communication channel.
Do you have any idea on this?

    Hi ,
I have been facing this error and tried all the refresh and reimporting of certificate.
    "MIC not verified # unexpected-processing-error"
could you be bit specific how to fix this ?

  • The difference between iPhone and iPod earphones with mic ?

What is the difference between the Apple iPhone Headset with Microphone and the Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic ?

The iOS just WORKS as it should and is not glitchy at all like my experience has been with Android.
I had 6 Droid X's since laundh day on July 15th, and my wife has had 4 Droid Increidble's since she got her phone around that same time - and that one had been out for a few months before she got it even, so the "initial bugs" should have been worked out by then as there were a couple software updates to the phone (not even the 2.2 update I am talking about - just 2.1 updates to fix bugs) before she even got it.
And, that's another difference.....whenever there is a software update for the iPhone you get it IMMEDIATELY as there is no "hold" by carriers to tailor it to their own needs, etc., like there is with Android.
Good point about the updates, I believe the Fascinate just got the update that's been out for months already.

  • Linking MIC & Batch characteristic

    Hey All
My understanding is that to move values from batch characteristic to MIC we need to maintain the link in MIC and this relationship is one to one relationship.
We have a business requirement as below. I do 2 types of testing i.e. official & vendor. First i do vendor testing and this will be reflected in the batch. After this i do official testing and this needs to overwrite the vendor results and update the batch automatically.
If i have to use the batch characteristic + MIC link, then i need to create 2 batch characteristics & 2 MIC's / test i perform on the material.
Is there  a way by which i can have multiple link between batch characteristic & MIC and manage this link via some user exit or
do you have some suggestions on how to handle this business requirement?
    Regards
    TOM

You only need one inspection characteristic.
You don't indicate in your process how or when these two types of inspection happen.
You can create a source inspection lot with the tests the you use to record the vendor results on.
Then when you receive the material, you have an 01 inspection lot created for recording your actual results.
The second set UD on the 01 lot will over write the batch record results from the first source inspection.
If you have one inspection lot that is created at goods receipt, use two operations.  Operation 10 has the vendor tests.  Operation 20 has the in-house testing.  When the UD is made the test results from the last operation will be written to the batch record.

  • Batch Characteristic not updating with result for linked MIC

    Hi,
I have created a MIC and linked to a batch characteristic i.e. potency and included the characteristic in a specific batch class. This MIC is part of the inspection plan for a certain material.
If I generate a lot of origin 01 and 09 for the material and record a result for the MIC and apply a UD, the batch characteristic is not updated with the result recorded in the batch master record..
If I generate a lot origin 89 for the same material, when the result is recorded for the MIC and apply a UD the batch characteristic is updated with the mic value in the batch master record.
    Can you help regards?

Ok. I am a little bit further.
I put a trace (ST05) on the result recording and I find a difference between 4.7 and ECC6.0.
In ECC6.0 I've an deletion in table "AUSP". This deletion isn't performed in the 4.7 system.
Hope that this can help to solve my problem.
    Regards,
    René
    @ Mayank
Above, all the master data and customizing is mentioned to transfer the result to the batch classification

  • IPhone 6 External Mic not working for Siri/Dictation

I am finding that the external mic on my iPhone 6 works for phone calls and voice memos, but does not work for Siri/Dictation.  When I plug in the earbuds, they work for everything (including Siri/Dictation).
Was chatting to Apple support who had me reset all settings.  I thought that worked, but realized that after a reset, Siri is off and I was talking to "Voice control" (which works).  When I turned Siri back on, it does not work.
I have two questions for the community to see if you can help:
1- I have been assuming this must be a software problem since the mic does work for non-Siri access.  But is that true?  Is there a hardware component that Siri depends on which could be faulty here?
2- If it is software, what action should I try to address it?  I have done a reset all settings already and that did not help.
    Doug

Hi, everyone.  I talked to Apple Genius at Apple Store last week, she said it should be a software issue and I needed to reset my iphone 6 plus as a new device and I can not use the backup restore from my iCloud, it was because the microphone bug or glitch can be in the backup also. Ok, followed her advice, erased all contents and set my iphone as a new device , the microphone worked for an hour, but went bad again.  I used "voice memo" app from Apple to test the microphone. It is the best tool since it doesn't involve any provider's network and it doesn't need another person's phone to listen and test.  If you can hear your voice recording clearly, then the mic works.  I tested it 3-4 times a day for a few days now, half of the time the mic doesn't work.  So, set as a new device isn't working. The issue is intermittent and it comes and goes as it likes, so very annoying. I carry my Apple EarPods with me in these past few days ust in case I need to make important phone calls.  Will need to go back to Apple Genius this weekend for sure.  Will give update after the weekend.
