Plan of mine.. will it work? :)

I am planning on buying a 250GB WD Digital Passport External USB HDD, and plugging it into the USB port on the BT Home Hub 2 (Type A), I know how to set it up so i can access the drive through computers in my home, but what I was wondering was would it be possible to download files to the HDD without having a computer turned on, for example if i wanted to download over night but didn't want a computer left on, the FON (http://www.fon.com/en/product/fonera2nFeatures) router can do this with Torrents etc, so why shouldn't we?

A Home Server would be one way to go. It's not really a case of 'no computer left on' I know but it can serve so many purposes when it is on and it can be set to act as a dmz for your lan so incoming connections can be routed through it. There are a host of add-ins for it to perform downloads for you etc but don't forget it is essentially a mini-Windows2003 server so can do just about anything a Windows pc can do (install the software you want to use and away you go!) JDownloader has a good web-interface built-in so downloads can be managed remotely (via WAN or LAN clients if you set the whole system up correctly).

If I upgrade to a Samsung S4 mini will it work with my existing mexico shared plan?

If you are just changing phones yes, if you are upgrading and signing a new plan, then the plan might change.

I have an iPhone from the USA but i want to use it in Ireland. If i get an irish phone plan and number, will it work?

It depends on whether it is a model that supports the proper bands for the provider inIreland and whether it is not locked to a carrier in the US.

• How do i know if my Mini will even work with a wireless printer?

I'm thinking of getting a wireless printer.  How do i know if one will even work with my old Mac Mini?
A very elementary question, cuz i'v never done anything wireless before.
I guess i would follow the instructions of whichever printer brand i get.
But can you direct me to whatever Apple explanations there might be.
Thanky u.
It will be nice to get rid of all these wires, if i can.

Thanky.  Yo guessed correctly,  it is a MacMini 2.1.
My next Q for you:
How do i change my rating of your answer?
I graded it as Helpful.
But i see no obvious way to change it to the Solution.

• If I buy mini, will it work with my Pioneer 436HD?

I've spent a good deal of time searching through past posts and help databases, but I can't seem to figure out the answer.
Does anyone know if a mini will work with my Pioneer plasma 43 inch TV. model 436HD? It has an HDMI port (which is being used by my dvd player) and a computer plug which I think is described as a VGA plug.
I was hoping to play the tv shows I downloaded from iTunes, surf the web, do web cams and edit photos and movies.
Thanks for any advice.

It will likely work at some level. Whether it works perfectly and meets your expectations is best answered if you can find someone else that has paired the two devices and confirmed they work. But it looks like you have tried this.
There are two problems commonly encountered. One is overscan where the edges of the Mac desktop don't show on the screen. This is a big problem because it affects the menu bar and the dock. The other common problem is non-square pixels on most plasma screens.
Is there any way for you to try this before you purchase? Or will a retailer let you return the mini if it doesn't work?

• I have a mac mini, will lion work?

It is a core 2 with a 667mhz bus from 2008. It has 2GB but I am not sure it is all addressable with this model. Here are the rest of the specs:
Model Name:          Mac mini
      Model Identifier:          Macmini1,1
Processor Name:          Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed:          2 GHz
      Number Of Processors:          1
      Total Number Of Cores:          2
      L2 Cache:          4 MB
      Memory:          2 GB
      Bus Speed:          667 MHz

Hi Susato
In my understanding of the installer, I don't know of any way to hack it so that it will work. I know of a couple of Mac users that have attempted to go that route so far without any success.
Yes, playing around with Folding@Home was great fun. The PowerMac G5 Quad I was using blew a processor and the cost to repair was too great so I upgraded to my current Mac Pro with two 6-Core Intel Xeon and 12 GB of RAM.
I thought that would be a good one to use with F@H but I ran into so many problems with it on Intel I gave up.

• How do I find out which programs of mine will not work with Mountain Lion?

I recently upgraded to Lion and found that all of my Power PC based applications wouldn't work (much to my surprise, as no one at Apple told me this when I inquired about the upgrade, nor is it listed in the App Store). Had to get a whole new Microsoft Word suite - after the fact.
Now, I just got an email from Intuit saying that if I upgrade to Mountain Lion I will probably have to upgrade to the latest and greatest version of Quickbooks (unless I create a partition, which is waaay too complicated for me). How do I find out what ELSE won't work if I upgrade to Mountain Lion?
Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Here's a compatibility guide by a 3rd party.  I can't attest to the accuracy.

• Black screen on iPad mini-will this work??

Like many posters, I have been trying to solve the inability of my iPad mini 32gb wifi to just start on command and stay working.  The screen goes black then the apple appears, pushing buttons has not helped; there is no pattern in the way it stops functioning.  I have done a compete recovery and restore to both iTunes and iCloud, removed some potential offending app's, still get the random blackout.  Has anyone tried doing just the "Erase all content and settings" without restoring all optional app's, then trying all functions?  If there are no optional app's on the iPad and it still does the random blackout, then it's the iPad or the iOS, or both.  Has anyone tried this??

Well, I pulled the pin on this grenade and it blew up, with a fizzle.  Wiped everything clean, went into recovery mode and restored nothing.  The iPad now has only the pre-packaged app's but still quits randomly, sometimes when entering the pass code or even when swiping the bar.  It stays on for a few minutes, a few seconds or over an hour; all the while plugged into the power source.  So I guess my next call is to the apple store.  I'll let y'all know what happens.      bob.c

• Is anyone else aving an issue with the "TTY" phone feature with the new ioS 7? Mine will not work in "sleep/lock" mode

Is anyone having trouble with the "TTY" phone answering feature with the new ios 7 when your phone is in "sleep/lock" mode"? I only have an issue when it is in the "sleep/lock" mode

I am sorry..."TTY" in "Phone Settings" being "on" or "off" has nothing to do with this feature but the issue still remains that it only works when the phone is NOT in "sleep/lock" mode

• How to update the Iphone? Mine will not work

I cannot get my iphone 4 to update? It goes all the way through the update and then says it cannot be updated at this time. Any suggestions?

Double check internet connectivity, click on iTunes store and see if you can navigate through it. If not, check your firewall and see if it allows iTunes to access internet. And possibly disable third party security software (antivirus programs).

• Mac Mini, Sonology NAS, And Apple AirPort wireless router, Will this work?

OK, so my plan is to create a home movie server for the living room and the kitchen as illustrated in the diagram. I Plan on using a mac mini (current generation) as the liaison between the NAS and the receiver. I will install XMBC on the mac mini’s as a movie organizing software. I will use the iPad app to control and select movies from the system. This setup will repeat in the kitchen with the exception that I will connect the mac mini directly to the television in which the audio out will go to a jack which connects to the in ceiling speakers. Will this work? Are there any other suggestions that anyone has to make it more streamline? I also assume that there can be simultaneous movies being watched in both rooms via the NAS. Thanks for all of your comments and help

in theory, yes, but you work network admin may have locked the network preventing this from working

• Will the ipad mini cellular function work internationally?

Interested in purchasing an ipad mini with cellular functionality ... but not sure if the sim slot will work in Jordan. Can anyone shed some light?

It depends what plan for this card you have. If your data plan includes roaming, then yes - you can use it internationally. Will it work in Jordan I could not say (I guess you are talking about card that would be purchased in Jordan), however as long as sim supports data and it is required type sim it should work.

• Mini DisplayPort to DVI + DVI to VGA Display Adapter, will it work?

Hi,
I have a MBP, and I have just purchased an apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter.
I want to connect it to a VGA port.
Can I buy an Apple DVI to VGA Display Adapter and connect it to the connector above.
Will that work? Any one with experience who could advise me on that?
Thanks.

This does not work, because the Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter has a DVI-D port that transmits only digital signals. VGA uses analog signals.

• Help! limewire will not work on my Mac mini 10.4.11 now that i cleaned it

Help! LimeWire will not work on my Mac mini 10.4.11 now that i cleaned it out and had to get the new LimeWire. It keeps asking for Java 1.6 but I'm having no luck. :O( LimeWire was the reason I bought a Mac!

Very weird day in Firefoxland
First on a Powerbook G4 running 10.4.11 I respond to an invitation to upgrade to Firefox 4 (like a lot of others). Long story short, I wind up losing the browser altogether -- including all bookmarks. Why? Because neither the Firefox homepage (or CNET downloads) makes it clear that 4.0 is for OS 10.5 only! Amazing!
Then I try to register to post a reply in a thread that crits Firefox for not making this System Requirements info upfront clear. But the Register page I’m taken to (https://support.mozilla.com/bs/users/register) is in SERBO-CROATIAN!!
Then I try to log into Chat a couple of times and when it’s not CLOSED its a long line waiting and THEN it closes.
WOW!! Are the wheels off the wagon here or what!?!

• I have a ipod mini from 2005, it will only work on my charger.  I did get a new ipod 4touch, how do i get the music to the new one if i don't know the password of the mini.  My ex-husband set it up for me, i not aboout to call and ask for the password.

I have a ipod mini from 2005,  it will only work on my charger.  I did get a new i pod touch 4, how do i get the music from the old mini to the new touch.  I have never put any music on it myself, my ex-husband did it all and has the password.  I never new it.  I'm sure not about to call him and I don't think he'd give it to me anyway.  Please help!!!

I don't think the password will matter, because you can't use anything on the iPod or in iTunes to transfer song files from iPod to computer (except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store).  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
The simple software "lock" used on iPods should not prevent you from off-loading the song files.  Once the song files are on your computer, you can add them to your iTunes library.  Then, you can do a Restore on the iPod to give it a fresh start and sync it (and the iPod touch) as desired.
NOTE:  For songs purchased by you from the iTunes Store, you can also re-download them to your computer at no cost, from the iTunes Store Purchased screen.  The link to Purchased is on the iTunes Store Home screen, under QUICK LINKS.

• Can Adobe Premiere run on 2013 Mac Book Pro (thunderbolt port) and display on 2010 iMac (Mini DisplayPort) using TDM. TB cable   Opt. F2 didn't work. Will a Mini Display cable work?

I need to work on Adobe Premiere on my 2013 Mac Book Pro (with thunderbolt port) and display it on my 2010 iMac (with Mini DisplayPort) using Target Display Mode (TDM). I tried using a thunderbolt cable plus Option F2, but it didn't work. Will a Mini Display cable work? Any other suggestions?

Mac Book Pro specs - 13 in. retina 2.6 GHz Intel Core i5 16GB 1600 Mhz DDR3

2010 iMacs do not have Thunderbolt, they have mini-display ports. You are using the wrong connection, you need a mini display port to mini display port. Please read up on what Apple says in Target Display Mode: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
