Planning application is taking alias name in Essbase

Hi,
I have successfully created and deployed an EPMA application. But when i'm looking at the application in EAS two of my dimensions are taking Alias names instead of original names.. :( :( one dimension is Entity type and one dimesion is Generic type....
suggestions on this are very helpful..
thanks

This is an expected behavior.
The logic for this is EPMA is a central repository for all application dimensions. There can be multiple Entity, Account etc dimensions which are used in various applications.
You would like to keep them seperately in the repository. So you can name them uniquely. For instance, Entity1, Entity2 etc.
However, in the application you would want to give same names to these dimensions. In that case, you can set the alias same for both the dimensions. In above example, you can set alias as Entity for Entity1 and Entity2 dimensions which are used in different apps.
This alias is what appears as the dimension name in the deployed Planning application - Essbase databases.
So in short, EPMA helps you to keep multiple versions of the same dimension by giving different names to that dimension and Dimension Alias helps you to have the same name for that dimension across various apps.
Hope this helps.

Madhavi

  • Multi Currency planning Application(Xchange rate not pushed to Essbase)

    In planning Application "ABC"
If i change the values manually in "EXCHANGE RATE TABLE"
after i refresh the data into the Essbase
    and run "HSPCRTB"
the value changes in the Spreadsheet... (i.e Exchange rates are visible)
But when i follow the same process for the n Planning Application "XYZ"
The Spreadsheet is not showing the Xchange rate values..
"XYZ" this application is built 2 years ago but.. this is the first time i am using for currency.
i.e Exchange rates.. values to input
Is there anything i need to do for the first time when i input the FX rates and push into the essbase?
Can you please suggest me for further process of
"Xchange rates to be visible in Essbase" ?

    Hi Jay,
    Thanks for the Reply,
Both of them are Multi currency Applications, i used Exchange rate table in both the applications
and also the rates are assigned to scenarios and after the refreshing the Database,
there is only one default currency script generated in EAS console for each DB, i.e "HspCRtB"
I run that script after i refreshed
But the rates are not populated into the essabse cube.
I am stuck over there... please do give me suggestion if u find anything else left out, that i missed.
    thanks for reply once again.

  • Financial report for essbase and planning application

    Hi,
Can any one please explain me what is the difference between creating financial report for essbase application and planning application.
Considering we will have Essbase cube for the planning application
    Thanks in advance

Correct, the data that is stored in Essbase will be the same regardless of which connection type you use.
Data that is only stored in Planning can only be retrieved using a Planning connection. This includes Supporting Detail and SmartLists as these are stored in the Planning relational database.
As a general rule I always use an Essbase connection unless i specifically want to get supporting detail or smartlists but that is just me.
    Hope this helps

  • How to reference a Planning Application in Workspace

    Hello,
    I've developped several Planning applications.
But when I open workspace / Applications / Planning, (with an admin user)
I only see one Planning application. So I want to know how to reference a Planning application in Workspace ??
    Thanks for your help
    Best regards

    Some details :
My Planning applications seems to works correctly. Essbase is Okay. Shared services is okay too but the Workspace is out (and with it Financial Reporting Studio).
Before that problem, In the configurator, I've deleted all Planning clusters except one (Default). I've selected Re-associate Clusters and Applications and I've successfully re-Associate all Planning Application to Default Cluster. Then I've Activated Cluster Default.
But Anyway, Since I've deleted Planning Clusters my Workspace doesn't work anymore.
I've a doubt: I've tried to redeploy Workspace (Configurator / Hyperion Foundation / Workspace / Deploy to Application Server and Configure web Server.
It doesn't work because it says that Workspace already exists :p.
Anyway I'm surprised about something : To access Workspace we use the 19000 port but In Configuration we I try to deploy it I see it is on the 45000 port. If I click on advanced / Setup a little window open "Set up Logical Address". And it is writtend Edit Default Cluster : gl-dev-budget : 45000 meanwhile when (still in Configurator) I open Planning / Manage Planning Cluster the server port is 8300 ??
Is someone can helps me ?
    Thanks

  • Planning application daily backup process

    Hi gurus,
I have to backup a hyperion planning application which has two databases in Essbase. I need to back the application everyday just to make sure if anything goes wrong we can have the data.
What is the process that you recommend.
One thing I can do is go to the application folder in Essbase (for example c:\hyperion....\essbaseserver\..app ) and then copy the whole folder to a backup folder, but my question is if i copy the application folder in this way, is the planning application that i have created in workspace backed up as well. so do i need to do something else in order to back up the planning applicaiton.
other thing i can do is use the "database export" option in essbase but in this process also, while the essbase dataase is backed up, the planning application may not be, so
can someone suggest me the right way of back up so that the planning applicaiton is backed up and the essbase database cube as well..
    thanks

First of all it is worth having a read of the backup guide http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/epm_backup_recovery_11121/launch.html
The planning metadata is stored in the relational database so you should back this up.
For essbase you can stop the application and copy the file structure, or you can export the data or maybe use LCM.
    Cheers

  • Alias names missing in Planning

    Hi,
Alias Names are missing in planning and subsequently not showing in the essbase, I checked in hsp_alias table and found 5 rows under it.
Can you suggest the way to restore back to normal?
    Thanks, UB

    Hi John
Restored back the schema, alias names now appearing in the Planning but not in EAS console. I tried refreshing the database by choosing the Incremental update from Hyperion Desktop Client, it just completed in a second. Then I went and check in the EAS console but no alias information pushed to Essbase.
Then I perform Full Database Refresh, at the end of it, encountered the below error.
    Error Detected:
*(MoveMember: 0): Could not move member (Source, destination) : [5101015, 510101DD)*
    -2147218899
Actually, I have 5 schemas for planning application. I restored only Planning schema(where Planning app Configured). DO I need to restore all the 5 schemas to fix this issue?
If not required, could you please tell what could be the reason for the above error. Please help.
    Thanks, UB

  • Unable to Obtain a Connection to Hyperion Essbase from Planning Application

    Dear All,
    I have installed FDM+Foundation+HFM+Essbase+Planning 11.1.1.3 (Tomcat)
I have stacked with the following problem:
when I try to open my data form, I am getting
“Unable to obtain a connection to Hyperion Essbase. If this problem persists, please contact your administrator”
Validate Database Connection & Validate Essbase Connection are successful throw Manage Data Source menu
    Essbase user has admin privileges
In EAS console I can make myself sure, that my application is running
Data Form is valid (verified in Preview screen in Data Form wizard)
Can somebody help me with it?
    Best Regards,
    Siarhei

    Thanks, John
    Summary
    Symptoms
When attempting to connect to Hyperion Planning as the admin user, the following error occurs:
Unable to obtain a connection to Hyperion Essbase. If the problem persists, please contact your administrator'
    Cause
Hyperion Planning web accesses the application by making a connection to the Planning metadata in the relational repository (via Relational repository settings) and also to Essbase via the datasource settings.
Any Essbase connection issues indicate problems with the Essbase settings in the datasource or are related to the Essbase server.
    Solution
    - Edit the datasource via the Configuration Utility.
    - Test the Essbase connection and make sure that the user used to make the connection is valid and has admin rights to Essbase.
    - Restart the Hyperion Planning service once the Essbase user has been given the correct access rights.
    - Login to the Essbase Administration Services (EAS) console and right click on the Essbase server name node -> Refresh security from Shared Services
    - Expand the applications node (under the Essbase server name node) and check that there is an application with exactly the same name as the Planning application.
Note: Go to section 'manually recreating a Planning application in Hyperion Essbase, if the Planning application is missing in the above step.
    - Login to the application in Hyperion Planning web.
Manually recreating a Planning application in Essbase:
    - Login to the EAS console as admin (the Essbase user used by admin must have Essbase administrator rights)
    - Go to Essbase servers -> your Essbase server name -> right click on applications -> Create application -> Using Block Storage and enter the exact Hyperion Planning Application name then click on ok.
Note: The above step will only create the application shell without the databases.
    - Login to the application in Hyperion Planning web as admin and go to Administration menu -> Manage Database -> select database and filters (to create filter access to Essbase) and Refresh (refresh will also recreate the databases if they don't exist)

    Rao,
Thanks for the info! It is strange that despite having alias name report is populating member name. It is not the first time strange things hapend with FR.
Can you please check if you are connecting to same data source where you see alias name? Can you pull alias name from SmartView?

  • Essbase and planning applications migration from 11.1.2.1 to 11.1.2.4

    Hi Masters,
I have few Hyperion 11.1.2.1 running servers for Essbase and planning applications (Essbase alone applications and planning applications are running into different servers). Now we are planning to upgrade 11.1.2.1 directly to new 11.1.2.4 servers.
could you guys please suggest me the best way of migrating these applications to 11.1.2.4?
    Thanks a lot,
    Siva

    Hi John,
Actually we are moving all our existing servers to some new data center. the plan is like installing 124 in the new server in the new data center and migrate the existing 121 applications to the 124 servers.
So is there a best way to migrate like i said above? or do we need to install 121 in the new server 1st and migrate the applications from existing 121 servers, then apply maintenance release of 124 would be best way?
    Thanks,
    siva

  • Allow duplicate member names in Essbase application

    Hi,
I have checked "Allow Duplicate Members" for my ASO application (system 11.1.2.1.00). By doing this, I can create members of same name across dimensions. But alias names can't still be duplicated. Is there anyway to use same alias names for multiple members may be in same dimension or in different dimensions?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
There are lot many times this was discussed in forum, you can do a search on it.
You can also refer below link which explains about working with duplicates

  • Adding Essbase Server access to Planning Application group

    Hi All,
How we can add Essbase server access to Planning Application group in Shared services ? Pls. advice

You can't provision access against any application group.
However, you can create and use native user groups or use external user groups and provision those groups to have acccess to Essbase and Planning.
See this post for an example of how I like to set up groups in Shared Services for Planning:
    http://camerons-blog-for-essbase-hackers.blogspot.com/2009/08/planning-security-wrong-way-and-right.html
The top level group I refer to in the post is where I typically grant Essbase Server Access.

  • Configure clients to develop essbase and planning applications

    Hi Gurus
I have installed hyperion on one of the windows server. Now I want to configure the client components on local machine to develop essbase and planning applications. How to do that? My goal is to have multiple clients configured so that multiple developers can work simultaneously.
    Thank you.

If you have essbase/planning running on a server then you don't really need to install many client components.
Planning is mainly accessible through the web, you could install smartview or the excel addin for use in excel, there are standalone installers available for this.
EAS console can be accessed over the web which will save it having to be installed on client machines, it can be accessed by http://<easmachine>:10080/easconsole/console.html
If you are looking at using financial reporting then you would have to install financial reporting studio, as you only said planning/essbase then you may not be interested.
    Cheers
