Planning for Document Migration

Hi,
i Need to do some planning for the last Shared Drives at a client that needs to be migrated to SharePoint.
The Document Library limit in SP2010 is 30 000 documents per library.
i Have got 290 881 Word documents that needs to be uploaded. In total with other file types it is 1.34milj files.
Size is about 1.4Tb in total.
This will go to different Site Collections in different Databases but i must still get more detail on how much per what site.
How can i check if the hardware is going to be up for that numbers? Space i will have to plan but i guess the 128Gb ram on SQL might need to be upgraded if the server can take more.
Also how does each Metadata field affect the performance?
Maybe a dedicated Search server or is that not needed?
Current Farm:
SQL Cluster
2 x WFE
1 x App Server
1 x BI Server
Thanks for any tips and advice in advance.

The first question I'd ask is, do they have to be moved. Your client will end up paying a lot more for storage and SQL overhead for moving all that stuff into the database. It's an even more pointless exercise if the content is hardly accessed.
I'd encourage two things: -
Look at some sort of base level audit, see if that can be cut down a bit
Think about using a federated search to surface that content in the search results.  This might be more effective than just moving it.

  • Need help to check prerequisites for Document migration to SharePoint

    Hi All,
    I would like to confirm the required prerequisites which I need to follow before migrating contents to SharePoint online so that, I can analysis everything and ensure my job without any interruption.
    Any suggestions/recommendations are highly appreciated.

    Hi  Jyotirmoy Deb,
    Last time might be,you are the one that asking about using join statement on 3 tables.
    Now what are you doing in your code. use are joining almost 18 tables.this will not work anyone, and it will slow down the processing time of the report.
    First of all analysis the report what exactly you want and then
    first read the header data as in your case you using the Sale Document Header data.
    On the basis of Header data fetch the line item data.
    Don't processes all the tables at a time using the join clause.Because it decrease the efficiency of the program.
    Reward points,if useful.

  • Best plan for this scenario (migrate oes2 to oes11)

    Hi there!
    I would like to ask you guys the best plan for migrate a few servers that I have
    in oes2 to oes11.
    I have four servers in oes2sp2/sp3, these servers have a few NSS
    volumes over NCS. Also I have my iPrint service on two machines,
    also using NCS. I have one cluster between two machines and
    other cluster between the other two machines. For exmaple,
    machine1 and machine2, three NSS volumes (every NSS volume is a cluster
    resource) and other resource in the same cluster for iPrint. Cluster: CL1
    machine3 and machine4, one NSS volume (for other people in the company)
    in other cluster. Cluster: CL2. In this cluster only have a NSS volume/resource.
    Machine1/3 are physical, machine2/4 are virtual (vmware)
    My CA is in other server that I will migrate after a while. So, It seems that there is
    no problem with the certificate. Machine1 and machine3 are a replica for the eDir in
    my organization.
    My plan: I have deployed two virtual machines and one physical with oes11sp1 and sles11sp2.
    I think that the best plan is migrate with migration tool iPrint first, like a cluster resource,
    and NSS volumes, and after that, make a transfer ID (like a different project)
    For machine1/3, move NSS volumes and after, make a transfer ID.
    Is this correct? I dont know If I have to delete the current clusters (cl1 and cl2) and
    create new ones, after that, create every resource as It was on the old ones.
    thank you so much !
    Antonio.

    If you look in my signature, there's a link to my OES2 guides. Somewhere there is one that I did for our Rolling Cluster Upgrade.
    If all you have is NSS and iPrint, then you only need to use the miggui (migration utility) for iPrint--or so I think (I do have to followup on this one as I vaguely recall I asked this a while back and there may have been a way to do this without migrating stuff again).
    But your NSS data will simply "re-mount" on the OES11 nodes and you'll be fine (so that's why I like the rolling cluster upgrades).
    Let me double-check on the OES2 -> OES11 cluster option with iPrint.
    --Kevin
    Thank you Kevin for your answer.
    Finally, I think Im going to proceed using transfer ID on my servers that Im only using NSS over NCS (I only have two machines with one NSS volume)
    because it seems that its a good option. I would like to keep old IPs from all the servers, cluster and resources if possible. So, testing this
    migration on my test environment it seems that it works fine:
    - I use miggui for transfer id between all the machines: physical -> physical and virtual -> virtual. eDirectory assumes new hostname, IP, etc.
    the only task "out of the box" is that I have to delete the cluster and regenerate (reconfigure NCS on the new servers) but its pretty easy. This way
    I have the two old ips from the older machines and all the ips from the cluster and the cluster resources also. I think that its the best plan.
    For the other two machines that has 4 nss volumes and iPrint I must think about a plan. But with those, Im going to proceed this way. I hope
    I have chosen a good plan!
    thank you so much all for your answers / advices

  • Best Practice for Plan for Every Part (PFEP) Database/Dashboard?

    Hello All-
    I was wondering if anyone had experience with implementing / developing a Plan for Every Part (PFEP) Database in SAP. My company is looking to migrate its existing PFEP solution (Custom developed Excel/Access system) into SAP. If you are unfamiliar, a PFEP is a dashboard view of a part/material that provides various business groups with dedicated views to data from Material Masters, Info Records, and Vendor Master Records and combines it with historical/forecasting information. The goal is to provide a single source to all the part/material settings for a given part.
    Is there a Best Practice PFEP in SAP? Or if this is something that most companies custom develop in ERP or BI?
    Thanks in advance.
    -Ron

    I think you will likely get a response in SAP ERP - Logistics Materials Management (SAP MM)
    additionally you might want to do some searches based on SAP Lean Inventory, perhaps Kanban. I am assuming you are not using WM or EWM either?
    Where I have seen PFEP incorporated into the supply chain strategy this typically requires not inconsiderable additions to the alternate UoM in MM dropping of automatic replenishment levels (reorder level) and rethinking aspects of the MRP plan so be prepared or significant additional data management work if you haven't already started on that. I believe Ryder logistics uses PFEP and theirSAP infrstructure is managed by IBM; might be an idea to try and find a linkedin  resource from there. You may also find one of the ASUG supply chain,logistics,  MM or WM sigs a good place to also ask questions and look for answers.

  • Help: document migration RPM 4.5 to PPM 5.0

    Hello,
    I am looking for a solution regarding the document migration from RPM 4.5 to PPM 5.0 (document stored in a DMS Sap content server).
    Manually I have no problem for creating documents in PPM (config ok) but given the fact that I have a large number of document I want to do this migration automatically.
    I choose the option to do that by creating an ABAP program... but by this way I have big issues. I try to do that by calling method CREATE_DOC_IN_FOL from /RPM/CL_UI_DOC_LOGIC class but I have a strange return code... :-(
    --> at this point, I think that is impossible to use this method to do what I want...
    Do someone face with similar questions ?
    Is there another way to do this document migration ?
    Already thank's...

    Hello Ravi,
    I want to migrate pdf documents stored in a DMS.
    I use KPRO customizing to define a new content repository.  (the old one as "DMS" as STORAGE_CATEGORY entity attribute of the default content model but for PPM the value has to be set to "CFF")
    In our migration RPM projects are copied in new PPM project.  So I want to link to this new projects the documents of the old project... in another content repository.
    In my investigation I tried to insert my code "call method CREATE_DOC_IN_FOL" in a SAP method called when a project is modified (IF_EX_RPM_PROJ_CUST_FIELDS~ATTRIBUTE_MODIFY)... and there, my coding works !
    ... but for sure I don't want to insert my coding there given the fact that I have a huge amount of documents.
    So, a this point, I'm looking forward trying to reproduce the same context as in this "exit" which is inside the portal.
    My coding that doesn't works looks like that :
    - retrieve project item (table /RPM/ITEM_D)
    - load object managers
      lr_rpm_obj_manager = cl_rpm_obj_manager=>get_instance( ).
      lr_ppm_obj_manager = /rpm/cl_obj_manager=>get_instance( ).
       CALL METHOD lr_rpm_obj_manager->load_projects
    -   CALL METHOD LR_DOC_LOG->GET_DOCUMENTS_FOR_BASEOBJ  (get document hierarchy... it works / this is only to test the object)
    -   lr_doc_log->create_doc_in_fol (--> this doesn't works)

  • Configuration Plan for service not working

    Hi,
    I have written once config plan for my composite which has one inbound Fileadapter to read and one outbound fileadapter to write files.
    if I am below configuration plan my files are being written to desired directory
    <reference name="Write">
    <property name="logicalDirectory">
    <searchReplace>
    <search>C:\Documents and Settings\Ashutosh Singh\Desktop\my Files\FileAdapter\Destination</search>
    <replace>C:\Documents and Settings\Ashutosh Singh\Desktop\my Files\FileAdapter\Destination\logical</replace>
    </searchReplace>
    </property>
    <binding type="jca"/>
    </reference>
    However If I write similar kind of search replace for my inbound service it is not picking the desired directory.
    <service name="ReadFile">
    <property name="PhysicalDirectory">
    <searchReplace>
    <search>C:\Documents and Settings\Ashutosh Singh\Desktop\my Files\FileAdapter\Source</search>

    </service>
    Kindly suggest

  • Scanner for documents and books

    I'm looking for a versatile scanner to use primarily for documents and books (not photos or film). If I were only looking for a document scanner, I'd be checking out the Fujuita ScanSnap iX500. It's pricy, but it has rave reviews. Unfortunately, I also need to scan chunks of books for my research, and I can't run my bound books through a document scanner.
    So instead, I'm in the market for a flatbed or handheld scanner that can output scans as PDFs with OCR and, of course, is compatible with Macs. I use an Air at home and a Pro Retina at work. If I got a handheld scanner, it would have to be more like a wand than a pen - it has to be able to scan entire pages.
    Any suggestions? I'd ideally like something fast (as fast as a flatbed or handheld could be, I guess) and not buggy, something that's geared toward black and white text rather than photos. Does something like this exist?
    I'm also in the market for a wireless printer, but it seems like most printer/scanner combos do one or both jobs poorly, so I'm planning on getting them separately.

    deggie wrote:
    Not really, all he is doing is scanning to a SD chip, the title gives the impression he connects the scanner to the camera connection kit and scans to the iPad. You could go to a copy shop that has a copier that will output to an SD chip and do the same thing.
    To me there is nothing misleading about his title at all. It is a wireless scanner. He is using his iPad with CCK to get scans from the scanner onto his iPad. Lets look at it again:
    "I'm able to use a wireless scanner with my iPad and Camera Connector!!!" (emphasis mine)
    I don't see anything that indicates he connected the scanner directly to his iPad via the CCK or that he connected his iPad to the scanner wirelessly--if he did why would he need the CCK?. Had he left the word 'wireless' out or had he said 'connect' and 'to' I would agree with you, but he didn't, he said 'use' and 'with'. With the CCK thrown it makes no sense to think that a wireless device would be directly connected via the CCK. That would indicate a wireless wired device which is rather meaningless. I have a CCK and there is no provision for that
    When I first read it I said 'That doesn't make sense...how can he get the scan from the scanner to the iPad. It can't be wireless and it can't be via the CCK for he specifically said wireless scanner." I simply had to read the thread to find out just what was going on. I did not know about scanners which scanned to a memory card. Now I do so I learned something from his note.
    As for your mention of the copy shop...misdirection...he specifically said it was useful to a student who needed to scan documents that cannot be removed from the library. How can a copy shop scanner even if it has a SD chip accomplish that?

    Hi Joe,
    SharePoint 2013 includes document management features that you can use to control the life cycle of documents in your organization — how they are created, reviewed, and published, and how they are ultimately disposed of or retained. There are some features
    needed to be enabled for some requirements(ex. Document Set, versioning, content approval etc.). There is an article which will guide you in planning the document management features of your solution that is based on SharePoint 2013. Please take a look at:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263266(v=office.15).aspx
    For uploading a document into SharePoint, you need to create a web application and create a site collection for the web application in Central Administration. After that, open the  top site of the site collection, you can upload documents into the existing
    library "Documents", or can create a new document library, then upload the documents into the new library.

  • Integration Test and UAT - planning and document templates

    Hey all
    we are planning Integration Test and UAT currently
    I am perfectly aware of what you need in an e.g. out-dated classical APO-project with integration to ECC, BI etc
    But how do you do that in S&OP?
    We do not have a 3-system landscape with Developemt-Test-Production or more, we just have a test tennant and production
    Is there somewhere a recommended and described procedure?
    Example: If we plan 3 test cycles for data migration, we need to get rid of master dat in the existing model, but than we cannot go on working on correcting at the same time. So we need to make a copy of the planning area and load. Sounds simple. But than we need to switch interface with every test cycle
    there might be more things to consider which I am not aware of, especially as we are in a cloud
    Who can help with documentation / check lists / experience ???
    Same applies for a cutover plan ...
    Thanks
