Planning function in steps

Hi,
Has anybody some further information about the report UPC_BUNDLE_EXECUTE_STEP?
It seems like we have several problems with a simple COPY-function of SEM-BPS 3.5 SP13.
This function duplicates the data from one version to another version. To assign which data should be considered in the function, the user has to define the level in hierarchy-variables (in summery 4 variable).
Our system procreates a short dump with the runtime error TSV_TNEW_PAGE_ALLOC_FAILED. We have analysed some statistics and ascertained in summary that 14,6 GB memory is allocated!
Now we want to divide this function with the help of the report UPC_BUNDLE_EXECUTE_STEP, but we don't know, how and where we could use a hierarchy-variable as the partitioned object.
And another question, in which way are the variable attitudes 1-3 in the selection mask considered?

Hi,
I had a similar problem that the resuls of my planning function were not automatically shown. Only if I did "something else" like saving or running another function the results were displayed.
I think I solved it by upgrading my SAP GUI6.4 with patch 14. the results of planning functions should be automatically displayed.

Development Plans functionality in Talent Management

Hello,
We are planning to use the Development Plans functionality in Talent Management.
But the Development Plan is not opening from MSS. (MSS -> Talent management -> Assessment -> Development Plan).
I had created the Business partner object for all my test PERNRs and I had created a Development Plan Template (via IMG step in Talent management). I had activated the Business Functions and Services.
When I open the Development plan in MSS, it is showing the names of employees (i.e. the reports of the manager). But when I click on an employee, it's not opening any development plan. Nothing is happening.

Hi Bharti,
You must first delete the template names from the customizing tables where it is stored (under Talent Assessment node of Talent Management and Talent Development). Then you delete it under PHAP_CATALOG. Unfortunately you have created an databse inconsistency and you might need to see if Basis can delete the values from the table.

I have one planning function A in X folder and my requirement is i need to create same planning function like A in planning floder Y. Please give me steps for creating planning function in planning folder.
I know how to create a planning function in planning level but i don't know how to create to a planning function in planning folder.

Thanks for your reply. Yes ur r correct, we cdon't create planning function in the planning folder insted o this we can drag the created planning function into planning folder.
How to drag this from left side to right side and place into global planning function area.
I am missing some thing. I couldn't slect the planning package and parameter group.
Can u let me know how to do this one.

Forecast Planning Function

Please can anyone will help provide me the steps for creating the Forecast Planning function for IP. ( Any planning forecasting model is ok).

There are many documents around SDN about forecasting and the basic ideas are the same as for BPS and for IP. There is just something that I don't understand from your request. Forecasting is not a trial, and it depends by many statistical reason to use a model or another . Before to do my model, we did a deep study involving also some of my past remembering about statistic and regression at university, and we used other econometric software to check if my model was good. Anyway the forecasting function in SEM were not good enough so I had to use FOX.
Maybe u are just running a demo ?

Using filter values in planning functions

Is it possible to somehow pass the values users set in query filters (during query execution) into the planning function and use them there as variables?

Please follow the steps
1) Create query with only one characteristic ( WHich you want to use in Planing funnction)
2) Create variable with replacement path using above query name.
3) Use above variable in filter.
4) read variable value using varv(Variable name)

Here is the step by step procedure for that.
I assume that you have already created a planning level and Planning package.
1.Double click on planning level
2.From Context menu of planning Function(2nd panel which lying below the Planng area/level panel)-->create planning function
3.Enter Tech name and description for planning function
4.Expand 'all functions' tab -->double click on 'Exit function'
5.Here you have to provide Function module for initialization(if necessary), and Function module where you have to write the logic, and 'Fields to be changed' and 'parameter name and data element for the same'.
6.Now create a Parameter group from context menu of Planning function and Provide necessary values as per your requirements.

Planning Function in BW-BPS 3.5

We are currently using a planning function to distrubute data planned for a year into a monthly plan. The function is working well, but when we add further data to the manual planning it recalculates the items that have already been processed. Is there a way to work around this? Do I need to create a new cube,manual planning and planning function for each year?
Please help we need to complete this project in 15 days and I need to get this cleared up asap. Thank you!

Inform me if i am getting it right...
Step 1 : You are loading data for 2007 for example, do the distributions, everything is ok.
Step 2 : You are loading data for 2008, do the distributions, the data from 2007 are distributed too.
If this is the case just create a data slice gor 0fiscyear, to restrict the data to be affected by the planning functions.
Or is the Step 2 is that you are loading extra data for 2007 ?

Execution of a planning function for a row selection of a hierarchy node

Hi all!
Has anyone accomplished to make a configuration, where a planning function would have been executed for a hierarchy node selection and this selection would have been made by a row selection in an analysis item? I can filter the characteristic in a lowest level by selecting rows in analysis item, but if I would select a hierarchy node, the value for the characteristic is empty. I have set the selection state by binding the item_characteristic of analysis item to filter of the other characteristics.
I tried first to reach this functionality by filtering the characteristic with variables in planning modeller filter and determining the values of the variables during runtime by the selection of the analysis item row selection. But I can not implement it as the display hierachy and the hierarchy node selection in the analysis item are variables and modeller does not allow selection of a hierarchy node and hierarchy by variables - even thoug it let's you do it (I receive error message saying "field hienmflag with value 5 is not correct").
Greatful for any working solutions tips you have made up!

Thanks for the explanation. I come from BPS background and there are few changes when it comes to planning functions in IP. In BPS, the planning function is a bit loosely tied to Planning Package in a sense that a planning function can use any planning package under the planning level to which it belongs. Same is the case in IP (technically), but in BPS the planning package contains all the characteristics and key figures of the planning level and hence the function can execute correctly. What I see in IP is that planning function is very loosely tied to Filter. It can use any filter under the aggregation level even though they differ in the characteristics and key figures. I have tried a PF with different filters and it executes with everyone of them! This doesnu2019t sound right! Am I missing something here?
Also, you can only execute a IP planning function if it is included in a planning sequence. An extra step! The modeling is so intuitive in BPS that IP is a bit repulsive.

How to execute process chains using planning function

hi, i need to execute process chains from web. i know the steps to that needs to be followed for accomplishing the task.
1) RSPC_CHAIN_START ( function module) into which process chain has to be passed
2) create a planning function to invoke the said function module
3) create a function button on web and assign the planning function.
Now the thing is how to create the planning function in BPS. plz provide me a solution with steps. And how to pass the process chain into the function module and handle it.

RSPC_CHAIN_START is the standard function module to run a process chain which i want use. Now, how to use the said FM in planning function to achive my task. Do i need to maintain any parameter in planning function inorder to execute the FM. If you know the solution plz explain in detail.

Breakpoint in CRM to jump to BW-BPS plan function code?

I have a BW-BPS planning exit function that runs on the Costs Tab of marketing planner.
Does anyone know where in CRM to set the breakpoint to let me jump across instances to the breakpoint in the planning function?

Given the situation that one does not know the CRM codings where the RFC is placed, you may always set a breakpoint on RFC, this will enable the debugger to be stopped at every remote function calls during the execution:

fill 'rfc' in the popup text box
Then maybe after several debugger stop, you will be able to find the one you want.
Then use F5 button to step into remote system, please ensure that the remote communication user is set as dialog user.

Complex Custom Planning function

Hello,
I need to implement a complex custom planning function, in which certain calcualtions are to be done. Data is available in the actual cubes and calculation logic is in a table and also it requires several validations to generate plan data. For example, planning fuction is to validate whether the planning cube is already having the requested data or not for the current period, if it has the data then that slice of the data is to be deleted before the calculated data is to be written to planning cube, that means custom planning function should be able to call Delete function as part of the validation. The calculated data is written back to planning cube which is part of Plan/Actual Multiprovider on which planning modelling is defined.
Could anybody provide step by step approach to implement this kind of custom planning function would be appreciated.

Hi Amie,
You can create a custom planning function using transaction RSPLF1. A step in creating a custom planning function is to create an ABAP class that implements the interface IF_RSPLFA_SRVTYPE_IMP_EXEC (if your function doesn't need reference data) or IF_RSPLFA_SRVTYPE_IMP_EXEC_REF if your function needs reference data. You code selections for your reference data in method GET_REF_DATA_SEL and the actual logic of your function in the EXECUTE method.
Inside the EXECUTE method, the parameter C_T_DATA contains the data currently in your real-time cube that satisfies the Filter selections that you placed in the planning sequence (or web-analysis item data bindings). You can check C_T_DATA for the existence of previously saved data. You can delete/modify/ad entries in C_T_DATA. Any rows in C_T_DATA that you deleted in the EXECUTE method will be zeroed out/deleted from the cube. Any rows in C_T_DATA that you added/changed will be saved as well.
If you look at transaction RSPLF1, you can see the definitions of the SAP standard planning functions. You can use those definitions as your reference.

If you record an authorization log for your planning sequence you can see what objects are checked and this should help you to create authorizations to restrict access:
To record authorization logs for planning sequences, you have to go to RSECADMIN, activate that trace for the user and run the planning sequence as usual. See detailed steps below:
1. Activate the authorization log
- Go to RSECADMIN transaction
- change to "Analysis" tab and click on "Error logs" button.
- There you can see the "Configure Log Recording". Click on it.
- It will open a new screen, add the user which need to has the authorization log recorded.
- save it.
2. Open a new windows and execute the planning sequence.
- you can use the RSPLS_PLSEQ_EXECUTE report in se38 or other way to run it
3. Deactivate the authorization log recording
- following the same steps to activate the log, delete the user which you added in the step 1.
4. Check the authorization log
- Go back to RSECADMIN transaction
- change to "Analysis" tab and click on "Error logs" button.
- select the time interval to find your authorization log (or delete selections to see all)
- click on "display" button
- find your recorded log
- double click on it to open the log
- analyze it.

How to pass multiple single values to parameter in planning function?

I can not pass the variables (multiple single Values) from Input Layouts(BexAnalyzer) to Planning Function Types...Anyone have any idea for setting the parameter in the function types. I use the exit class CL_RSPLFC_BPS_EXITS.
My Parameter Type is Elementary and also use variables allowed

If you want to use the class as in a planning function type, proceed as follows:
1. Create an InfoObject that accepts the name of the function module as a characteristic value. We recommend that you create an InfoObject of type character with length 30 and indicate that this InfoObject is "Without Master Data".
2. In transaction RSPLF1, create a new function type. Chose the "Reference Data" option and enter the name of the class. This does NOT imply that reference data is read automatically, but results from the requirements for implementing the class.
3. On the "Parameter" tab page, create two parameters - one for the exit module and one for the init module. The parameters should be "elementary". Chose the InfoObject you created in step two as the dedicated InfoObject. The names of the parameters are determined from the values of constant P_C_NAME_EXIT_PARAM and P_C_NAME_INIT_PARAM.
4. If you require additional parameters in your function module (called exit parameters), you create these parameters as elementary parameters (with appropriate InfoObjects). Note an additional predefined parameter here - in many function modules, the name of the area is used from which the module is called. The area is not used in BI Integrated Planning but it may be the case that an area was created in BPS which only uses the current InfoCube. For this reason, you can create a parameter with the name specified in constant P_C_NAME_AREA_PARAM by specifying the name of this area to the function module. The value of this parameter is passed on to the function module in the interface as the value of the importing parameter I_AREA. Note that this technology can generally only by used for Basis InfoCubes and simple planning areas (not multi- planning areas or MultiProviders).
You can create additional elementary parameters as long as the names do not correspond to the predefined names. The class automatically recognizes the additional parameters and transfers them to table IT_EXITP in the function modules.
5. After you have activated the planning function type, you can create planning functions and fill the parameters accordingly.

BPS planning folder; Scroll to top after execution of planning function

Hi All,
After execution of a planning function, or after saving data in a planning folder, the layout jumps back to the top and displays the first row, even if the user was positioned on another row.
I know BPS does this because it recalculates the data and tries to display it.
However, it is not very user friendly.
Did anyone ever solve this ?
How do you remain positionned on the line you are working on after saving or execution a BPS planning function?

Hi 
There are some APIs which BPS uses internally to save data. You can make a Planning Function of Type EXIT using function moule of your own calling API_SEMBPS_POST (to save data). 
You can call this EXIT Function as a step next to your copy function in your Global Planning Sequence. 
Please refer to Note 422998 - SEM-BPS processing large data volumes if you need further details for implementing this solution.
