Planning installation on UBUNTU

All,
Hope everyone had a blast on christmas and new years eve.
Happy New year 2012 to all of you!
I am setting up a VM on a 64 bit machine, I plan on installing a free server OS on it, and I have chosen UBUNTU 64 bit server.
I am trying to understand if there are any compatibility issues that Hyperion Planning has with UBUNTU.
Can someone also guide me on which installation file of Hyperion Planning I should download, because I see the software for Windows server, Mac, Solaris, Linux and HPUX, but none for UBUNTU.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers!
Anindyo

You need to check out the support matrix - http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-foundation/hyperion-supported-platforms-085957.html
I don't believe Ubuntu is on there.
Cheers

    Hi John,
    Thanks for the quick reply
I have gone through the guide
BSP will not work in Windows Environment ?
I have installed and configured Hyperion Planning 11.1..2.3 .500 , But not able to find Hyperion PS3 bundles BSP 6.1 files
In guide its mentioned like this
Installation of BSP 6.1 on Hyperion Planning PS3
Hyperion PS3 bundles BSP 6.1 files. Installing Hyperion will only deploy the
BSP files. BSP needs to be subsequently “initialized” in order to access it.
If CAPEX and/or WORKFORCE applications are required, initialize CAPEX and/or
WORKFORCE after BSP initialization is complete.
Note: For PS3, sequence of initialization to be BSP, CAPEX, and then
    WORKFORCE.

Please, can anyone help me with this steps. Sombody have some guide for this kind of instalation. The instalation on Ubuntu is a prerequisites

As you stated, Ubuntu is not a certified distro for Oracle installs - so errors should be expected. Google for sites (like http://www.pythian.com/blog/installing-oracle-11gr2-enterprise-edition-on-ubuntu-10-04-lucid-lynx/) where others have documented their experiences. Also, just because you are able to install the software successfully does not mean it will work as advertised.

  • Installation jdeveloper & ubuntu 12.10

For those with the same problem. here is the problem and the solution.
    Problem:
After installing jdeveloper 11 studio in ubuntu, an error appears when starting up.
    Solution:
The problem is the jdk bundled in jdeveloper. Download a newer JDK 6 (I did it with 1.6.0_33), then go to jdev.conf and replace SetJavaHome property with the new location.
Probably there is no problem when you download the jdeveloper generic installation.
    Stack trace (for searches):

    Hi everyone,
FIrst of all thanks for the reply - greatly appreciated. I find the oracle software was quite 'hard to deal with'
Starting from all the problem that I have when i want to try to connect oracle 64 bit with a SAS 32 bit and this oracle 11g R2 on ubuntu 12.10.
I finally able to install the oracle 11g R2 'express edition' on my ubuntu 12.04 LTS. I follow the instructions in this blog to do that (highly recommend for all other people who would like to install oracle 11g R2 express edition on ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64 bit)
    http://meandmyubuntulinux.blogspot.ca/2012/05/installing-oracle-11g-r2-express.html
To be honest, I am quite stock with how hard it is to install oracle on ubuntu Why would you be shocked at that? Doesn't Oracle provide a list of supported OS's in the Installation Guide? Yes, it does. Is Ubuntu included in that list of supported OS's? No, it is not. And given that Ubuntu is a bit of an 'outlier' in the Linux world, what else would you expect?
and also how to install java jdk 1.6 (and it has to be 1.6 - it cannot be java 7 since oracle doesnt support that as well)
For me, i think it is really strange since i thought oracle and java and sun microsystem (spark/solaris) are one big family and yet they dont support each other. Then you have a lot to learn about software and the software industry.
Sometime around 1994 or 1995 I went to a class on the rDB database, developed by DEC. Oracle had just purchased the rdb from DEC. The instructor (who had been a DEC employee prior to the purchase) explained how Oracle had expected to fold rdb into the flagship Oracle database. Of course, that plan was hatched up by the 'suits'. Once the engineers were able to get together, it was figured out there was no way the products could be merged, and to this day Oracle maintains rdb as a separate and distinct product.
So, class, what lesson do we learn from this?

I have an old Dell Dimension 2400 I plan to use as a replacement for the Sony Vaio when it pops. I've held out as long as possible because it lacks a pci or usb wifi and I really didn't want to run 50 feet of cat5 up a flight of stairs to it. [as i type this i think i remember where a linksys stick for it might be]. Yes I guess it's about time I just do that.
Don't laugh but the reason I held off adding a simple usb keyboard was just lack of space in my tiny bedroom. My setup is on two tray tables side-by-side. Sony Vaio is on left one, my lcd monitor and mouse are on the other. I barely have room to put a cup of coffee on the one with monitor and mouse let alone a full size usb keyboard lol.
Anyway thank you again for all your help.

I think the installation of planning on Vista is difficult. As some of the files doesn't support even i am tired of doing that.
But tell me one thing have you installed all other products , I mean Essbase, (server, client) , AAS and Shared services.
    Are they working good .
I have formatted my system to XP and installed everything , but the problem is when i install planning it prompts me that IIS 5 should be greater other wise EPM will not install...
there are lot of things with planning 1) i can't datasource as it is not highlighting when we configure with Shared services
    2) It does not create product instance .
If any one can fix this thing by giving me a suggestions.
    Advance Thanks

  • Installation on Ubuntu 10.04, Lucid Lynx

    Hi all,
this is my first post here. :D
I've just successfully installed on Ubuntu 10.04, Lucid Lynx, and wanted to share the steps that it took and summarize the information I gathered from plenty of Google searches and searches of this forum; maybe they are useful to someone else:
    1. Increased swap (more information in English at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SwapFaq and German at http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/swap).
    2. Installed Oracle Database 10g Express Edition as explained here:
    sudo apt-get install libaio1
    sudo dpkg -i oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.0_i386.deb
sudo /etc/init.d/oracle-xe configureI answered the questions about the ports with the default answers (8080 and 1521) and "no" for starting the database on boot.
After that, I was able to access the database home page at http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex
    3. After next reboot with my normal user account "carsten" I was not able to start the database and not able to access http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex
Following thread {message:id=4106998} that is linking to post http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=7838671&postcount=4 in the Ubuntu forums, I also:
added myself to the dba group,
sudo usermod -a -G dba carstenmade the listener log writable by the dba group,
sudo chmod g+w /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/network/log/listener.logmade sure the env vars are set for everyone,
    sudo ln -s /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/bin/oracle_env.sh /etc/profile.d/oracle_env.shchanged *#!/bin/sh* to *#!/bin/bash* in nls_lang.sh,
sudo gedit /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/bin/nls_lang.shand for being able to login as Ubuntu user "oracle" I set a password (this last step is optional, I needed to login as the "oracle" user for testing, but now it's no longer necessary).
    sudo passwd oracle-----
After the next reboot (not strictly required...), logging in again with my normal Ubuntu user "carsten", I can successfully start and stop the database via the gnome Applications menu and start the listener at the terminal with
lsnrctl startWhen both the database and the listener are running, http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex can be accessed in a web browser. Installation complete! :x
This is also the first time that I use an Oracle DB, and I'd be happy about any thoughts or feed-back!
    Best regards,
    Carsten
    http://www.cafu.de

well I tried reinstalling because I have double checked and know for certain that I had followed all the installation steps.
Earlier I had put the path export lines in both my .bashrc file and in the /etc/bash.bashrc file and apparently that was allowing "oracle" user to find sqlplus.
Now that I removed that I can't even log in with oracle because it says "command not found"
I tried re-installing with su - instead of sudo because another post at this forum said that is what you are supposed to do.
Now the error I get from sqlplus sys as sysdba is "could not create audit file"
I found the init.ora file and commented out the line audit_file_dest.
I tried changing permissions on the adump directory.
Still get "could not create audit file"
Also I've seen mentioned in a couple of posts that root.sh should be run at the end of the install. What is that and how do you run it? Is that even anything to do with my problem?
    Thanks

  • Cannot complete installation on Ubuntu 8.04

I have some experience installing Oracle Standard / SE One on Windows 2003 Server, and in general I have no problems.
I am new to Ubuntu/Linux and I like it. I am also new to Oracle XE. I have made several trials to get Oracle running on Ubuntu and I just can't. Sometimes it installs and I even can log into SQL plus as SYS and run some selects. But the XE home page never displays. Last time when configuring Oracle it says port 8080 is invalid and doesn't accept any other port.
As I don't know Linux very well, I'd like to know if it is necessary to create an Oracle user and then install Oracle as root, but within Oracle user, or is it the same if I create the user Francisco and install Oracle as root within Francisco user? Or what is the way? I cannot log in as root in Ubuntu desktop. Also, where do I have to save the .deb package in order to unpack it, and should I run it from the full path or reference it from outside (another directory)? I just got lost in linux directory structure.
I have reinstalled Ubuntu completely to do an Oracle fresh install, and got no results.
The installation steps in Oracle manuals are very clear, I'd like to have some advice on the PRE-installation requirements.
    Thanks,
    Francisco.

  • Oracle 11g Client Installation on Ubuntu

Hi, I tried to install the Oracle 11g Client on my Dell Inspiron laptop running ubuntu, the thing is that I did every step described in the Installation Guide but when I ran the ./runInstaller file, at the installation point the assistant raises an error and prompts for an action (Ignore, Retry, Cancel), and even if I choose ignore it keeps raising the same error, then I noticed in my terminal that the errors was because ubuntu couldn't find some commands used in the installation script, and that there was no installation steps for ubuntu in my guide, so I think the Client Installer I downloaded wasn't for ubuntu... could be the reason why I can't install the client? is there a script or some way to install the client on ubuntu?
    Thanks!

Unfortunately there's no (official) installation guide from Oracle, because it's not supported. If you want to continue go to the Linux Technology Center on OTN and follow the instructions for unsupported platforms (under Installation Guides):

    Welcome to the forums !
What version of OBIEE and Ubuntu ? AFAIK, OBIEE is not certified on Ubuntu - so the hack of ignoring system prereqs may or may not work - it may also cause issues after the install.

Download the tar.gz installer and untar it to a location like /opt.
Once you untar the archive, add the bin directory to your PATH variable and your should be all set to use it from the terminal.
OR use sudo update-alternatives to set the java command to pick up your installed version.

  • New Installation on Ubuntu 6.10 - logon denied, unable to login at all.

I have successfully installed Oracle XE under Ubuntu 6.10.
When I attempt to login via APEX using system and my entered password I get Invalid Login Creditials.
When I attempt to login to sqlplus as either system or sys with my entered password I get logon denied.
I know I'm typing in the same password, and I've gone through the entire reinstallation process just to be double sure.
Has anybody experienced this problem with a new installation?
What are my option now, while my installation appears valid, with listener, processes and APEX home page operational I don't have any ideas.
    Any help really appreciated.

ORA-01031: insufficient privilegesThis may happen in two situations :
    1. your oracle user is not member of dba group, or
    2. within sqlnet.ora file, in $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin you have a line like this :
    SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES=(NONE)
Either add your oracle user to dba group, or remove/comment the above line.

    Thank you for your response.
Actually, where is the border when the software can be used lawfully? If software access and usage is allowed only for registered readers (compare to employees of an company or students of an school)?
If it makes things better, will be problem in concurrent access? The license mentions NFS and Windows terminal service. In general NFS is equivalent to CIFS, Windows terminal service is equivalent to X11 terminal service on UNIX.
In other words, is possible to provide Adobe Reader to public library readers? Or should I asked Adobe for special licensing?
Just for your information, in country where I live were havilly discussed problem about installing legal MS Office in Internet coffee houses. It influences in special licensing from site of Microsoft. In fact software usage in public library from point of view of our law is the same case as internet coffee house. The only difference is that nobody cares about it nowadays. I'd like to have all software licenses in order. Therefore I'd like to know if and how can I provide Adobe Reader of Flash Player to our readers, or If I should replace them with alternative free sofware.
