Hi John,
I just want to refined my question as in the last mail to you.
In the configuration utiity, Under Product to be configured we selected or placed a tick mark on Planning.
Further under configuration tasks, we found the following options:
1 Shared services registration
2 Application server deployment
3 create Planning properties file
4 Shared services Deregistration.
We selected 1 to 3.
One Interesting point we came across was that Databases to be registered/configured was missing.
Just to refresh you on my earlier mails, the database initiialization failure was thrown after creation of UDL,Dcom and DSN. Could this be the reason for the failure of the application creation in planning desktop.
Also let us know if any setting need to be changed.

Hi,
It has been a while since I have used the version you are configuring so someone else may be able to help that is using that version.
As I remember you will definitely need to perform steps 1 and 2.
Then in planning desktop configure all the dsn connections, account, hss settings.
Create UDL
Create Planning application. (If it fails you should not go to the next step)
Then go back in the configuration and deploy the planning properties files, sometimes you have copy the planning properties file to the web application and restart the web app.
What I do recall is when you are using shared services then an hss admin account becomes the dcom user, I can't remember the exact version that happened though. So when you set up the dcom account in planning desktop you use the hss admin name, then the final stage of creating the app when it prompts you enter username/password you remove the servername/dcomuser in the username box and enter the hss admin account name and use the hss password in the password box.
