Planning on getting first iPhone

Hi, I was planning on getting my first iPhone, but I'm not quit sure on how everything works. First, do I go to the apple store or at&t store first? Do I need some type of proof that I'm an at&t customer? Second, once I get the phone, do I have to take it to the at&t store to set it up? Also, what is the base data plan I need to get when I set it up? This is mostly all I was wondering about, if anyone has past experiences with buying one, please post any problems you may have found.
~thanks

When iPhone first came out, it was a mess to get one, to activate it and get things set up. Now, it's a very simple process. You can get one and get it all set up and running right at the store. Apple, ATT, Best Buy, or even Wal-mart . . . AND as of this weekend, RADIO SHACK

AppleInsider reports that electronics retailer RadioShack is set to make a splash this weekend with an advertising blitz promoting the iPhone's availability in 3,000 of its 4,500 U.S. stores, pushing the company past AT&T and Best Buy to become the second-largest provider of iPhone points-of-sale behind Wal-Mart.
According to the report, RadioShack has been rolling out iPhone availability to hundreds of stores each week this year following last November's announcement that it would begin carrying the device. And to coincide with the advertising push, which will see the iPhone featured on the front of RadioShack's newspaper circular, the company is also knocking a few dollars off the price of the device.
For its part in this, Radio Shack plans to promote the entire family of iPhones on the cover of its March 28 circular, at what it claims are the lowest prices ever offered for the touchscreen handset nationwide -- essentially $5 off MSRP across the board, or $95 for the 8GB iPhone 3G, $195 for the 16GB iPhone 3GS, and $295 for the 32GB iPhone 3GS.
Apple's prices for the iPhone come in at $99/$199/$299 with a two-year contract, while Wal-Mart offers only the iPhone 3GS models at $197/$297 price points and RadioShack appears to be ready to set the standard even slightly lower.
RadioShack will reportedly also be promoting its Trade-In Program as a means for customers to replace their existing mobile phones with iPhones at discounted prices. Finally, sources indicate that RadioShack associates may receive as much as $30 or more in commissions for selling an iPhone, twice that of most other handsets and thus providing motivation for sales staff to encourage potential customers to consider an iPhone.
Good luck. You'll love it.

I have a iPhone 4 micro sim and I plan on getting a iPhone 5 and would I be able to change my current micro sim to the new nano sim by my carrier ?

Call your carrier and ask if they will be furnishing nano sims. If not, get out the sandpaper, cutting tools & search Google for how to cut a micro sim down to nano sim size. You will also need to sand down the thickness. I suggest you get several sims to practice on.

  • Two questions: getting first iPhone & deleting old iPhone backups?

    Here's the deal.
My neighbor has 'paid' for his old iPhone 4 through AT&T and is getting a new one. He's going to give me his old one. It will be my first smartphone (and, naturally, my first iPhone). I've backed it up for him using my computer before and there are a bunch of his apps in iTunes which I would like to remove. So my first question is, "how do I get rid of that backup"?
I've downloaded the iPhone 4 manual with iOS 4.x (which he has running) and I think I know how to go about updating and resetting the phone. After I get it updated to iOS 6.x, I'll be going to the AT&T store and finding a good (cheap!) plan that fits my lifestyle.
    Any help or suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Clinton

On the phone, follow the directions here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5661
Then set things up using YOUR Apple ID. Any old backups, delete: iTunes>Preferences>Devices. Also delete any & all content, in your library, obtained with his ID.

  • Planning to get an iPhone

    Hi,
Just while I was thinkin of getting an iPhone I heard that they announced the 3.0 firmware. I'm wondering if I buy in another week or so, will it have the new 3.0 firmware. If not, is the firmware upgradable for free at a later time ?
Also, are there any hardware changes expected within the next 6 months in the iPhone ? .. i read on some1s blog that they might come out with more flash memory or RAM ..if so i guess it'd be worth holding my plans a little
    thanks,
    Puneet

The iPhone 3G currently comes with 2.2.1. When 3.0 comes out sometime this summer, you will be able to upgrade for free.

We cannot discuss rumors and Apple has made no official announcements regarding a new iPhone.

  • Thinking about getting first iPhone (the iPhone 5s).

Thinking about getting the iPhone 5s, this will be my first iPhone (always have been a Android user).
Can a bunch of you guys be OBJECTIVE PLEASE and tell me why I should get the iPhone 5s over the HTC One or the Samsung Galaxy 4s?
I have a iMac desktop. This is my main reason for getting the iPhone (beacuse of iCloud)...but I would like more information about the phone and how it compares with the other phones I mentioned.
                                                            Thank you.

Like all devices, it has its little glitches from time to time, but overall its seems to work great...and I have the original iPhone...never had a real problem that couldnt be fixed by simply turning it off and on...
As for payment questions, you may want to contact Optus, Telstra or Vodafone...looks like they are the carriers in Australia.
(Scotland uses O2 as a carrier)

  • HT1386 i have an iphone 4s. Im getting the iphone 5s for christmas, but i do  not have my phone backed up, and my phone is not working and my screen is covered with blue lines. I need help.

My iphone is not working, i was planning on getting the iphone 5s for christmas, but i do not have my phone backed up on itunes. On my screen are these blue lines across on my screen, and i cant see anthing and i do not know what to do. I want to back up my phone but i cant see my screen to back it up. I need help badly. Thanks apple hope you can help me in this matter.

You wouldn't need to see the screen to backup unless you have a passcode on the device. Is that the case? You should be able to plug the device into the computer with iTunes and just select backup now.

  • Can you get an iphone 5 at target that uses AT&T or Verizon network and use the Straight Talk plan from Walmart?

Can you get an iphone 5 at target that uses AT&T or Verizon network and use the Straight Talk plan from Walmart? I don't have AT&T or Verizon network and I don't want to get them but I was just wondering if you can get the iphone 5 that is at target and use it for the straight talk plan. I will be getting the straight talk plan but I would like to do some research on the iphone 5 first for straight talk. At walmart the phone is $544.99 and I think it will be a lot cheaper to buy it at target.
    Thank You!

When I use find file http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/30073/find-file (which does tend to find files that "Finder" can't), it's not coming up with any other itunes library files that have been modified in the past week, which I know it would have been - unfortunately, I don't have a very recent backup of the hard drive.  It would be a few months old so it wouldn't have the complete library on it....any ideas?  I'm wondering if restarting the computer might help but have been afraid to do so in case it would make it harder to recover anything...I was looking at this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4211589?start=0&tstart=0 in the hopes that it might have a helpful suggestion but it's definitely a different scenario.

  • Wife getting her first iPhone - adding to Mac with my phone

My wife and I have been sharing the same user profile on our Mac. It's easy because I'm the only one with a mobile device. I should note that my daughter has an iTouch, she has her own user profile. Our iTunes Media folder is on the shared folder because we share music, but the iTunes on her profile is connected to her iTunes account.
Wife is getting an iPhone. Does she need her own profile? Can she sync her phone to my iTunes? Will that give her the same apps and music as me? Is there any way for the iTunes on our shared profile keep track of two different phones? Can one iTunes use two different Apple IDs?
Presuming we need a new profile, is there an easy way to clone profiles, so her new one looks like her old one?
If we need two profiles, how do we deal with shared documents? I don't want to put them on the Shared folder, because the daughter shouldn't see them.

    Read here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1495
You can share iTunes content using your ID, but I suggest you get her her own ID for iCloud, FaceTime, & iMessage. Must be a verified email address. You can create an ID here. Do this first:

Firstly, I can't open iPhoto on my macbook as of a few days and could it have anything to do with a problem I have updating my iPhone's software as I've downloaded extra iCloud storage but I still can't get the iPhone to recognise the space for software

No. With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
what do you see when iPhoto opens?
    what fixes have you tried?
    where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?
For the iPhone issue ask in the iPhone forum.

  • Wanting to Get My First iPhone

    Hey-
How can I get an idea what size iPhone 4S I should get?  Is there a way to get an idea not only on the processor size but also the plan type.  Right off I want the biggest to accomodate all the HD videos I take for work, but I really have no idea what size and pla I will need?
I have a Mobile Hotspot 3G now but I was going to get the MIFI 4G.  Does tethering do the same thing as a Mobile Hotspot does like the Verizon MIFI 4510 4G?  With the new iPhone 4S can you use your MacBook Pro wirelessly by setting up the iPhone a certain way (which I assume is what is called tethering)
this might get this question knocked of of this discusion, but does the iPhone 4S work best on the ATT network since they both came at the same time and that is the network the iPhone grew-up with.
If the smartphones with the dual core processor are coming out, would you wait for this phone before getting an iPhone 4S (it looks like it has some new functions like Siri and it does have a dual core chip)
    thanks for the help.

    deggie-
it seems like you know a lot o what I want to now more of.  Is it possible to PM you to clarify some of what you stated?  It confusedme more. I am not aware that my cell phone has a bowser.  Does it have a browser because you can connect to the internet, is that what you mean by the browser?
What I realy need to state, the moderators will remove my post if I ask what I realy want to know because I am with Verizon, and my questions are about staying with them because my contracts for the cell phone and the MIFI (their mobile hotspot, but mine stopped working and it is 3G.)
I was told that Verizon, actually i have been told so much I am so confused if I should say with Verizon or go to ATT and tap into this ad I see for the Apple Store where they charge you full price but throw in some classes, pay for applecare (which I could get at Verizon) but I have never even used a smartphone or iPhone so the classes they talk about in thier ad appeal to me.  I am not talking about one-on-one but I gues they get it all set up for you before you leave.
However the Apple Store will not give me the New Every Two that Verizon used to have but is still giving it to customers who have not used theirs yet.  which I do, so if I go to ATT I would lose the New Every Two, rebate type money that they use as staying with Verizon.
I would not want to be using the iPhone as a hot spot and then get an important call. what do you do if that happens?  that is why I like the MIFI 4G and ATT has one like it, you take it with you, can put it on your dash on a road trip and use your mac or any laptop.  But if the iPhone can do the exact same thing I am not sure I need to pay another $50/mnth for the MIFI 4G.  If it does cost extra to add tethering to your iPhone then how do they know how many people are using it, do they go by how much GB you use per month?
A friend and I looked at her HTC Android phone under WiFi andit had her password and some other tuff which she did not know and it also said 4G, which was confusing because her provider is TMobile, but where she lives her reception is really bad, which is what I am dealing with now with my MIFI 3G so I am not sure of the 4G MIFI will work in the area I live.  On Verizon's map it says yes I will get G but there is a small area that everybody has a problem with their 4G reception so the maps are not always able to give the whole story.
I spend so much time, years it has been and I am still using this 7 year old flip MOTO phone.  I just need to do it.  Like you say the next iPhone will be 4G, but if I keep waiting I will be waiting until I am dead before I et a iPhone or smartphone.  So I am going to sign up for that service the Apple Store advertises, they will set your phone up, do some teachng, get you connecte to your new provider and plan, and then when that is all done I can cancel the plans I have now with Verizon.  Personally I think if I get an iPhone I should go to ATT.

  • Buying First iPhone Tomorrow Curious if I should get 16gb or 32gb

Getting my first iPhone tomorrow and curious which would be the best choice.I've had a 30gb 5th Generation iPod for some time which is full... so should I go for the 32gb iPhone..?

I should have posted this question some time ago. I just got my 32G 3Gs this morning and I'm very happy with it.
I originally had reserved the 16 but when I actually got in line at the Apple store this morning I had second thoughts and forked over the extra $100 for the privilege to own the 32.
This is the way I see it. Ultimately, I opted for the 32G because I didn't want to regret. The reason I was originally thinking 16 was because unless like your situation where people actually have a gazillion tunes, an extra 16 might be an overkill. So, looks like in your case, logic dictates that you should opt for the 32 because you've stated that you've filled up 30G on the ipod and that's just in music.
Remember, the iphone 3Gs has video capability as well so you'll need space for that. I think the 32 was meant for people like yourself. You've actually managed to fill 30Gs. Unless you can tidy up and be efficient, meaning you offload pics/videos/movies etc. on a regular basis, you'll probably need the larger space. It's a crap shoot. But for you, unless you're going to trim your music collection, how are you going to get anything else on a 16? Bear in mind, also, if you want to have movies ripped on it, it's probably best to get the bigger drive. Hope this helps. $100 is a lot of money, but regretting if worse. Which way do you want to err?

  • Will i lose my unlimited plan if I get an Iphone 4s? Or will I have to pay more?

Will i lose my unlimited plan if I get an Iphone 4s? Or will I have to pay more?

When I tried to order through At&t, it didn't give an unlimited option. I then ordered through apple website which basically let me get the already existing plan, which has unlimited data. If not for it, I would have gone with Sprint.
