Planning on installing iTunes 9

I had problems with this version on numerous occasions, but since I have the newest iPod, I need the newest version of iTunes or it won't sync my music. I wanted a bit of advice on how I should prepare my computer for potentially the worst. I thought backing up my old installer for my old iTunes on an external drive in case I need to downgrade, then getting rid of all traces of it on my computer before installing the newer version? Any suggestions on what else I could do?

Sarge--
I personally think you're looking at overkill. However, I also understand having had Windows, your desire to be cautious.
So far, your post sounds good. Be sure you've used both iTunes uninstaller and Windows removal, and then, check to make sure there's no files left over. (It might be an empty file...it might not be.) I'd also remove QuickTime and Bonjour, and only reload iTunes and QuickTime.
My rationale is simple: why take needless chances? If installing iTunes may create issues, let's reduce the chances of issues happening.

  • Hi, I've bought a new (PC) laptop and installed itunes. It worked perfectly with my phone on my old laptop but nothing is working on my new one...

    1) I can't drag songs onto my phone 4 - I keep getting a red circle icon with a line going through. It won't let me add songs. What's this about?
    2) It won't let me transfer purchases from my phone to itunes - It tries and after awhile it says there's some sync failure.
    3) When I go into the phone music library itunes won't let me sort the songs by artist, album etc. I can't click on the tabs at the top to change anything.
    4) There are a number of songs that appear greyed out on my phone which indicates missing songs. They skip when I try to play them. I don't know why or when this happened (probably when I tried to sync with my new laptop), but what is the cause and how can I get these songs back?
    5) Also, the cloud column always says "waiting" - is this supposed to be the case?
I am using Windows 7 64-bit and have authorised my comp to use itunes. I also deactivated authorisation on the old laptop cos I wasn't sure if that was stopping it, but I don't know what else to do.
Any help very welcome please! Thanks
(PS: I've just downloaded the latest updates for itunes and the phone but it hasn't solved anything.)

Hi, I see I haven't had any responses but these problems haven't been fixed.
I still haven't been able to transfer purchases from my phone to my comp so consequently have stopped purchasing on my phone.
I bought a couple of albums recently via itunes on my comp, and tried to tranfer them to my phone via a playlist, but the sync often crashes. One album transferred except for one song, and the other hasn't at all. What happens is that when I autofill from a playlist it often hangs for ages on the first song and then I have to quit the application altogether as nothing happens for ages. Basically, the whole Itunes software freezes.
After this I find it hasn't transferred any songs, but they do appear greyed out on my phone, which means it has transferred some basic data such as the titles, but not the song itself. When I try to repeat the process to complete the transfer Itunes tells me that it can't transfer because the songs are already on the phone, but they are not!! I can't click or remove on the greyed out items, so now I have a couple of almost full albums on my computer that I can't tranfer or install on my phone, and a whole bunch of greyed out songs on my phone that I can't play or remove!
The rest of the problems as above still stand. I downloaded the latest itunes OS updates but nothing's changed. I haven't done the very latest iphone update yet though because it says you need to make sure your stuff is backed up, and I don't want to lose the purchases I made on the phone that I can't transfer to my comp. I'm planning on uninstalling itunes completely and reinstalling but I have little faith that this will fix the issue.
Can someone please help at all?? I'm so sick of this!

  • IPhone stuck on connect to iTunes screen do not use iTunes or have it installed on my PCs; does anyone know of an easy fix other than updating windows then installing iTunes?  I don't have time to go through the process again and at this point will d

Hi all- I'm new to this online community of Apple support; my iPhone 5s is stuck on a screen that has the connect to iTunes icon, this started after I upgraded to IOS 8.1.1 from the beta to fixed version; I don't use iTunes and have an IPad, home PC, office PC, and Galaxy Tab, and I went through (failed) the process of installing itunes on my office PC but needed to update windows; after going through all redommendations I could find, including Apple phone support, I still haven't had success.  Does anyone know a way to get my phone past that screen?  I don't have time to keep doing updates and installation attempts;'I don't care about the content at this point; but I can't get to the settings to "reset all" and start from scratch; I bought i loud for storage and have an old 4s that has a broken screen butt still works and I have another active 4s on my plaN.  Im not tech savvy myself; but I know some community members are pure geniuses! !I just need a fast way to fix this bug;'I use it for work and it's been inaccessible all week, the only time I have to go to an Apple Store is this weekend; I don't want to move to the iphone6 because it's too big.  I didn't know this community existed; it's cool; for this issue, I just have no time for a new phone or phone support again; I'm posting this question as a last resort; any feedback is appreciated......and I apolo in advance if this post goes under the wrong thread

No. You have no alternative but to plug it into a computer running iTunes and restore it.

  • Cannot Install Itunes 10.2.1 - am at my wits end. Please Please Please Help

    Here Goes...
I have just got a new laptop. Nothing special but easily meets the requirements of the Itunes 10.2.1.
Im running Windows 7 (Id have a Mac, but Money constraints took over).
    This is my setup:
    Laptop HD - Drive C
    Portable HD - Drive I
    DVD/RW - Drive F
I have used Itunes with my Iphone 3G for some time and to be honest have never had an issue whatsoever.
I have just got this new laptop and have downloaded the Itunes 10.2.1 software from Apple. Previously I ran 10.1.2.17 (I think).
I have double clicked the downloaded file and it takes me through setup. Once it gets to the section where you choose a location for Itunes to install it seems to be defaulted to a location on drive D. I click change location and a dialogue box appears stating invalid location drive D (or words to that effect) It then takes me to the end stating that Itunes cannot be installed.
If I then try and install again it states Invalid location drive D.
This confuses me as I do not have a D drive anyway and I also cannot see why it will not let me change the location to my preference.
    Please Help.........
I have tried everything. Cleared the laptop multiple times, re-downloaded Itunes 10.2.1 multiple times. I cant think of anything else.
If this can be sorted and I can get Itunes on the laptop please can someone advise the following.
I plan to keep my Media on the Portable HD as it is 1TB and the laptop is 250GB. Would you advise installing the Itunes to the Laptop HD or the Portable HD.
If I install Itunes on the Laptop and then ask Itunes to find the files on the Portable HD will this just duplicate all of my files so they exist on both harddrives.
    Please Help
    Thanks
    Rich

If I then try and install again it states Invalid location drive D

  • After installing iTunes, Flash no longer exports .MOV format...

    Hi -
I have been using Flash 8 to do animated titling for my podcasts.
But after installing iTunes 7, Flash 8 will no longer export .MOV format. It tells me a Quicktime compenent cannot be found.
Also, QuickTime Pro will not actually play Flash .SWF files. Not sure if this worked before, I never tried it. But it seems to be a QuickTime feature that doesn't work on my machine.
    Flash 8
    iTunes 7.0.0.70
    QuickTime Pro 7.1.3
    Any suggestiones or explanations?
I really need to export my Flash animations to .MOV format. It's part of my work scheme. Workarounds cause loss of quality.
    Thanks,
    Dave Ferreira
    ([email protected])

Recent security issues has had QuickTime 7.1.3 Player set Flash (inside .mov files) to "disabled".
Any user can re-enable Flash inside .mov files by checking a box in the QuickTime Control Panel (PC) or System Preferences (Mac).
QuickTime Player uses a much older version of Flash and only allows those "published" as version 5, or lower, be used.
The security issues are real. The solution for those of us that use Flash (.swf) inside our QuickTime content is more complex.
If a solution isn't reached between Apple and Adobe about a more modern use of Flash inside QuickTime files I plan on adding a text description (on my Web pages) for the steps to re-enable Flash functionality in my QuickTime files that use Flash.

  • Micorsoft Error Report when installing itunes need!!!

I installed itunes the first time and everything ran smoothly. Then, my disc drive ceased to work and i could intsall, import or play nothing on my pc. This annoyed me somewhat so i attempted to fix it by using XP system restore to the point after i installed itunes. This all went to plan excpet my disc drive still didn't work. Increasingly unhappy i used system restore again but this time to a point before itunes was installed. This fixed my disc drive but when i attempted to install intunes again i got a microsoft error report after the ipod driver had installed and just before Quicktime starts. After constant system restoring it's still the same. I tried deleting everyfile to do with itunes and quicktime but some wouldn't delete i tried anyway and it didn't install again.
The error reports says it will take one file, this is the end of the file:
    \LOCALS~1\Temp\3a27_appcompat.txt
I don't know if thats any use but i really need some tips.

NO, this seems to be seen only in the Packard Bells, which leads me to believe its some sort of Packard Bell issue. Here is how to resolve it...
To resolve this behavior, follow these steps:
    Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry:
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry:
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
This is to get your CD drives working again btw. Looks like you have done all this uninstalling which can lead to other errors.

  • Installing iTunes and QuickTime on computer not connected to internet

I'm planning on giving my current iPod to my father-in-law. He has a computer but it isn't connected to the internet. If I just download the iTunesSetup.exe from this Apple web site, does it contain everything needed to install iTunes, or will it try to download other components from the internet. If so, is there a way to get the full iTunes/Quicktime software so I can bring it over to his place (either burn it on a DVD or put it on a USB)?
    Thanks,
    -D

    Wlecome to AD!
iTunesSetup.exe should have everything you need.
QuickTime is bundled into the install - so are Safari, Apple Software Update, and a few other things.
Cross your fingers that it goes well. Othewise, you're nowhere near the internet to get answers if an error message or problem crops up.

  • Should I install iTunes 5?

    Hello,
Before ask any questions, I'll begin with a little story:
A couple days ago I completely wiped my iMac G4. All of my purchased music, everything I had in iTunes, has been burned onto CDS and storage CDS. My plan is to put back on only what I really want, and keep my iPod mini filled with more music.
    That being said, should I:
    1) Install iTunes 5? I've heard a lot of nasty stories about it. Now, I know the interface has changed (that doesn't bug me one bit, from what I've seen it still looks good) but my primary concern is the infestation of supposed glitches. iPod not syncing, playlists disappearing, lots of bad stuff. This really has me concerned. Since I wiped my Computer, and didn't install Tiger (because 10.4 refuses to work with my external HD despite my best efforts) my iTunes version is 4.1.7. Yikes! This is a pain because I can't easily access the podcasts I listein to on a daily basis.
    Thanks everyone,
    ben

I may try iT5 this weekend after backing up my library.
    ibosket hello,
If anything was to go wrong at all it would be in the library dept. and you have that covered.
If you have any doubts at all follow these steps here and you will be trouble free.

  • Mr B.  -Should install Qt 7.0.3 b4 install iTunes 6?

    Hello Mr. B
I am having the same problem as many others. 5 second hour glass, than nothing. No error messages. When checking the Processes, the iTunes.exe and ItunesHelper.exe are both running with allocated memory of approximately 12.8MB and 5.5MB respectively but the application does not show in the Application tab.
It is like it starts but fails to complete full startup. This is somewht backed up by my ability to kill the process tree for the iTunesHelper process, but I cannot kill the iTunes process or process tree unless I reboot the computer.
And yes, I do have Norton Internet Security 2005 and Webroot spy sweeper.
I have read some of other post and yours about doing the de-install and re-install with NIS,NAV and Sweep turned off, as well as even going to the point to disconnect the HP printer, of which I have the same model that others have had problems with. Also your post on turning of NIS2005 Automatic program.
    PLAN:
    1. Complete de-install of itunes, QT followed by your post on cleanup process.
Question: Should I install QT 7.0.3 separately before re-installing iTunes?
    2. Reinstall itunes with NIS,NAV and Sweep turned off, printer off-line. NIS Autmoatic Program unchecked.
    Comments?
    Thanks
    GY

    hi Gregory!
to be honest, my role in the NIS 2005 troubleshooting efforts is "receptionist and general look-out". i don't actually have NIS 2005 (still at 2004), so i can't do any hands-on work with a PC. so my general technique is to direct people to the techniques that are working best for people. periodically i revise my information packs as more hands-on work gets done out there.
might as well try gathering together everything here. technique-wise, it's probably best to start off with "Jordana" (it's fairly easy, and works in cases when just itunes is being suppressed):
    Lisa Bissell, "ITunes won't work" #4, 09:12pm Sep 28, 2005
(have i been getting the name of this technique wrong all this time?)
but if that doesn't work, there are probably QT processes being suppressed. under those circumstances, i turn to "Lorraine":
    Lorraine M, "NIS/i-tunes problem rectified" #2, 01:51am Oct 17, 2005
in terms of background and resources, i'm currently looking at Glen's work on our behalf:
    Glen Gardner, "NIS/i-tunes problem rectified" #17, 09:24pm Oct 22, 2005
... and a couple of Symantec troubleshooting documents that toonz tracked down for us:
    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nip.nsf/docid/2003022714315536
    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nip.nsf/docid/2003101708540036
as more information comes to hand, i'll adapt the information packs.

  • New Version of Quicktime installed. Can't install iTunes 9.01

I am trying to install the new version of iTunes but its telling me I already have the newest version of quicktime and can not install itunes. Can I just install itunes without quicktime?

Quit ranting. I am running QT 7.6.4 and iTunes 9.1.1 on my Tiger iMac. It will be ten years old this summer. I have all of you beat I use it to sync a brand new iPod Touch. It works fine, even though it was built prior to even the beta version of OS X.

Virtually useless? Really? Perhaps you're exaggerating a wee bit ?
I've spent almost nothing keeping mine up to date. Until someone can provide a tangible reason to update to Snow Leopard, I have no plans to replace this ten year old computer.
Here are Apple's download sites for QuickTime and iTunes, respectively.
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/#quicktime
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
They'll install and run fine on your three year old dinosaur of an iMac (geez!).
I'm reasonably sure Software Update alerted me to the QuickTime update. It was at least several months ago. Perhaps sometime subsequent to that I became unceremoniously dumped by Apple Support. After only ten years. Imagine!
Virtually useless? Wow. Kids today, I swear...

  • How do I install itunes on a surface pro 2 tablet?

My ipad won't update through the ipad so I need to do it through my computer but all I have is a surface pro 2 windows tablet and I cant install iTunes on it. Is there anyway to download it for my computer or other ways of updating ipads if it wont work on the ipad??

iTunes should install on a Surface Pro 2 just like any other PC running Windows 8.1.  If you go to http://www.apple.com/itunes/ and click the Download iTunes button the next page should give you access to the appropriate installer.  Note, though, that the relatively limited storage, especially on the lower spec models, may limit the size of library you can have without using external storage.  iTunes itself requires 400Mb of free disc space to be installed.
iTunes does not run on the original Surface and the Surface 2 that run Windows RT.  The new Surface 3 runs full Windows 8.1 and should support iTunes just like the Pro 2 and Pro 3.

  • Installed itunes on xp but itunes wont open and  ouicktime will

I just bought an ipod nano for my husband and i wanted to surprise him by setting it up with his favourite tunes but i haven't been able to install itunes on my windows xp. The programme downloads but only quicktime will open. I tried to insatll an older version of itunes but when i try to open it i get as far as the contract agreement ( which i accept ) and then a window pops up stating "itunes library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newerversion of itunes.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the download several times but to no avail, has anyone any suggestions ??

When you get the message "itunes library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newerversion of itunes. - It ususally means what it says and can be fixed in the way I suggested, but it seems to be something different in your case.
Are you still getting that message when you try to open iTunes?
Just to be sure, you have no file called iTunes Library.itl in your iTunes folder? If you have Windows set not to show extensions of known file types, you would just see iTunes Library.
There is something else you might try although I haven't tried it in this situation - Hold down the shift key and start iTunes from All Programs. Keep the shift key held down and you should be prompted to create or choose a library. If it works, create a new library in your iTunes folder.
If iTunes doesn't start like that, we will have to try doing a complete removal of iTunes and reinstall. We can go though that next.

  • TS1538 I cannot sync my iPhone 3GS after upgrading to a new computer and installing iTunes

i am trying to sync my iPhone 3GS to a new computer. I downloaded and installed iTunes and copied over the iTunes folder into My Music. Unfortunately iTunes on the new computer does not recognize my iPhone.
    - The old computer was running windows XP OS 32bit. My new computer is running Windows 7, 64 bit.
    - I have installed iTunes on the new computer. Windows OS recognizes the iPhone but iTunes does not. I have uninstalled and reinstall iTunes a few times now. On one reinstall, i recieved the following messages:  "an iPhone has been detected, but it could not be identified. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPhone, then try again".  Upon trying again, i recieved this message: "iTunes could not connect to the iPhone because an invalid response was received from the device".
every other time, nothing happens other that Windows prompting that the iPhone is detected. Any suggestions appreciated.
