Planning to Essbase Refresh using Appscheduler.exe

Hi,
I am having trouble when i run a planning to essbase refresh manually.
The error I get is: "Error 16; <windows_id> 04/27/09 16:35:09; AppScheduler; ScheduleApplication; 46: Unable to get Server Name - <Servername>Permission denied Application Name - <AppName>".
The refresh is part of an automated process where the script is running on <Server1> (not a planning server) and calling the appscheduler.exe on <Server2> (Planning Server)
I am able to run this using the command script when running from <Server2> (Planning Server). Any ideas as to what might be causing this?
The id i am using to run this script is an admin id and the id is an admin on both servers. I am also using 'admin' as the username to refresh.

How are you actually executing the script from the other server, it may because it needs to be executed on the physical server as it uses the servername where it is being executed, so will only work if the localhost executes it.

Planning Security Filter refresh and Essbase is Crashing

Hi,
I am on System 9.3.1 and I am doing a Planning security filter refresh and Essbase is Crashing. Please advise in this case.
Security is fine on this cube. It used to work fine earlier. Now from few days we are facing this issue.

We see same issue in 9.2.0.3, but only with 1 of our 5 applications. Was never able to get support to identify a cause, our resolution is to push users in small groups and save the essbase.sec file. Real pain. You could try stopping essbase service, using essbase.bak file and restarting then try to push and see if it works. I did identify issues with our openLDAP which I felt was the cause, I was able to clean it up in TEST and it works, but did same in Prod and worked once, then reverted back to crashing again, unless we push users in really small groups. Interested to see if you get a 'fix' from someone...

Cannot Connect to Essbase Server Using MaxL

After installing and configuring planning. I was able to create data source and application. When I shot down and restart the machine. The diagnostics report highlighted these srrors
EPMVAL - 01010 can not connect to Essbase server using MaxL
Network Error - 10061 unable connect to oracle.vision.com:1423. the client timed out waiting to connect Essbase Agent using TCP/IP

Where can I download a trial version of Hyperion Planning and essbase?

I am new to Hyperion and want to train in it . Where can I download a trial version of Hyperion Planning and essbase?

Edeliver is where you go to download any of Oracle products. They are not trial versions. They are full versions. The license that you must agree to inorder to download them are for development and self-educational purposes only.
The main site is
https://edelivery.oracle.com/
From there you pick your language, identify yourself, and agree to the license agreement. Then, you select the product pack and OS of host system. Then, select the product you want to download. The products are splitup by component or modules. You must download everything you need. Foundation, Essbase, Planning, and Reporting and Analysis if you are going to do any reports.
Product pack - Choose Oracle Enterprise Performance Management System
OS - I use a 64bit OS, but choose the right one that you will be installing on.
Then choose,
Oracle Enterprise Performance Management (*11.1.2.0.0*) Media Pack for the OS you choose
Once you have downloaded the required packs, unzip them all into one folder. Merge the folders together and copy and replace all files. Put a check mark in the box that asks to perform this for other conflicts.
Once you have all packs unzipped, run InstallTool.cmd

How to Start Essbase without using OPMN in 11.1.2.1

All,
We have installed and configured Essbase 11.1.2.1 successfully on 64 bit AIX server. Now I need to know how to start the essbase without using OPMN?
As we can start essbase using :-  <EPM_ORACLE_HOME>\user_projects\epmsystem1\bin\startEssbase.bat  ; But this method will still use OPMN, if OPMN is not running it will first start up the OPMN processes and then start up Essbase. 
As we are not using Essbase clustering and so do not find OPMN more beneficial and moreover OPMN is not working properly to start any processes. so we just do not want to use OPMN in starting the essbase.
is there any workaround to just skip the OPMN while starting/stopping/restart essbase?

In 11.1.2.0 there was startEssbase.bat at <EPM_HOME>\user_projects\epmsystem1\EssbaseServer\essbaseserver1\bin\startEssbase.bat 
which basically just called setEssbaseEnv.bat which sets a number of variables, one being %ESSBASEPATH% which points to <EPM_HOME>\EPMSystem11R1\products\Essbase\EssbaseServer
Then called %ESSBASEPATH%\bin\essbase.exe
This bypasses opmn
Now in 11.1.2.1 Oracle removed <EPM_HOME>\user_projects\epmsystem1\EssbaseServer\essbaseserver1\bin\startEssbase.bat 
but still left setEssbaseEnv.bat, it is possible to call setEssbaseEnv.bat and then %ESSBASEPATH%\bin\essbase.exe
Essbase starts up fine and bypasses opmn.
I would have thought it would be possible on other OS types as long as the environment variables are set first being starting up essbase.

Enhancing Essbase performance using Exalytics box

Hy,
I moved my essbase platform to Exalytics. But, I'm disappointed. My calculation times still the same.
It's a Hyperion Planning cube therefore it's a BSO.
I put the ORACLEHARDWAREACCELERATION TRUE in the CFG. Changed data caches and commit blocks settings.
I saw something about RAMDISK. But, if the power shutdown I lost my database !!!
What is the infrastructure recommended ? Any help ?

I am not believe in Exalytics because
      Essbase it is old man - and can't do utilisation for all newest hardware.
              -- Essbase CalcParallel - can't work correctly since 5 years from first implementation
              -- Essbase Don't Really need in the RamDrive. in all performance test - it's getting only 20% vs SATA II drive.
             Because Can't Calc more data block in single CPU mode.
My opinion it's simple
      -If you need real decision for getting better performance
        u have only one way -   It's redesign application:
                       Use simplest Essbase calculation
                        NEVER use CREATENONMISSINGBLK and other
                               - create calculation from source slice
                                      FIX (Source)
                                         MBR1(
                                           target->MBR1=MBr1;
                                       ENDFIX
                       If u realy need big complex essbase calculation - use Essbase Custom Relation Calculation.

I am able to use the essbase once again.What i did that i removed D:\Hyperion/common/EssbaseRTC/9.3.1 from the ARBORPATH.
ARBORPATH: D:\Hyperion\AnalyticServices;D:\Hyperion/common/EssbaseRTC/9.3.1
But i do not know if it is the right thing to do.Please suggest.

Yes, Essbase & Planning can do multiple currencies. It is more complicated to explain from an technical and setup perspective, but you can setup several ways depending on how the business wants to handle currency conversions. Planning has an option that will enable multi currency, but I would be careful and certain you want to do this. I only use this option if one of my requirements is that 1 entity member deals in more then one currency.
Long and short of it is it can be done.

Multiple select queries used in Excel BI report ,fetching data from Sharepoint DB(SP2010_Prod_ProjectServer) causing blockage on DB ,when more than one workbook(same copy of Excel BI Report) refreshed using Refresh All option.

I am using mutiple select queries to fetch data from Project Server 2010 DB(its sharepoint DB) and these queries fetch data in Excel BI report by establishing connection with DB using instance name and all. I have enhance all these select queries and data
is being fetched in secs. but when more than one copy of same Excel BI report is refreshed using 'Refresh All' option, then these select queries cause blockage on DB.
Please let me know mitigation for this blockage issue.
Should I use begin transaction and commit transaction statements/ shared lock statements.

Unable to load data into Essbase cube using Essbase Studio

Hi
We are creating an essbase cube using Essbase Studio using flat files as data sources.
We have taken different hierarchies into different flat files and created one fact file having dimension intersection along with data.
We are able to create the cube and the hierarchy but not able to load any data.
We are getting the following error
Failed to deploy Essbase cube.
Caused by: Unable to perform dataload from more than one flat file.
Could anyone please help on this?

Oh this was killing me, so I did this test in 11.1.1.3:
1) Excel 2007 format -- no go, Essbase didn't see it
2) Excel 2003 format, three sheets -- only the first sheet was read into an empty rule
3) Excel 2003 format, one sheet -- the first sheet was read into an empty rule
4) Excel 95 format, one sheet -- the first sheet was read into an empty rule
The lesson?
1) Excel 2007/2010 sheets don't work (no surprise there as the .xlsx format isn't supported).
2) Excel 2003 and lower (hey, if you have Excel 4, I'll bet that works as well) work, but only the first sheet is recognized.

Error when running a script using upsshell.exe

I have a simple custom script which is

When I am running it manually in workbench, the script runs fine but when I try to run it using upsshell.exe(command provided below)

I have a few additional questions:
Does your application function correctly when running the LabVIEW operator interface you have created as a VI in the LabVIEW development environment (i.e. does this problem only occur when the LabVIEW operator interface is run as an executable)?
What is the error that you are receiving?
Regarding the VI that you open programmatically, do you open it in a visible manner (i.e. use the Show front panel when called option from VI Properties)?If so, do you also close this VI after it finishes (i.e. use the Close if originally closed option from VI Properties)?
Does the error occur on the step that calls this very same VI again later in the sequence?
Does your application function correctly if you use the development adapter for all of your calls?

Is there a way to force essbase to use a certain disk?

We run essbase 9.3.1 most bso databases, but also some ASO.
Is there a way to force essbase to use a certain disk?
Our operating system runs on C:\. Essbase is installed on D:\ Our M:\ drive is for data purpose.
We want to direct essbase to create the *.ind and *pag files on the M:\ drive.
To do so I added "DISKVOLUMES M C 0k D 0k " to the essbase.cfg, restarted essbasse and created and loaded a new application. But is still creates the ind and pag file soin D:\ With configure application I am able to move the files before a databases is loaded.
Is there a way to force essbase to use a certain disk?

all the answers seems to say that it is NOT posible to force it from start.
You can only correct it afterwards.
We want the essbase admins NOT be able to create a application on a certain path.
All the given answers tell me: let them do it and change it later on.

Copying an app from one server to another using HfmCopyApplication.exe

Hi,
I am trying to copy an HFM application from Production Instance to DR Instance using HfmCopyApplication.exe.
I have added the Hyperion product folder of DR to the network of production so that I can select the Destination database connection file while running HfmCopyApplication.exe.
While running the HfmCopyApplication.exe as I select the MS_SQL_SERVER_hfm.udl for the destination and click Next I get an error.
The SQL Server database for DR instance is located in a different server and therefore it is not being able to connect it seems.
The error that I am getting says : "Failed to connect to the destination database using the UDL provided!"
"SQL Error : [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen(Connect()).]SQL Server doesnot exist or access denied."
Please suggest how to resolve this issue.

It seems UDL cannot connect to the target database.
You can do the following check:
1. Ping DR database server from Prod App Server. If ping is ok, it means the network between Prod and DR is ok.
2. Check DR database is started.
