Planning to Essbase

I have a Planning (v4) app with 2 db's and want to start using it as an Essbase (v7.3.1) only app. Is it as simple as copying the outline in EAS and beginning to make changes directly in Essbase (no longer using Planning)? Or am I over simplifying?

IANAL, nor am I a salesman, but you might want to check your contract re usage of Essbase outside of Planning.
At one time at least, Essbase usage was strictly limited to apps/dbs created (and I think maintained) by Planning.
Again, I never attended law school, and I don't work in your company's contracts department -- it might just be worth a consultation with them to make sure you're not somehow violating your license.
I think the above doesn't count if you have separately licensed Essbase -- again, I would check.
Of course (Hi, Glenn), Glenn is correct that it is technically good to go from within EAS.

Edeliver is where you go to download any of Oracle products. They are not trial versions. They are full versions. The license that you must agree to inorder to download them are for development and self-educational purposes only.

From there you pick your language, identify yourself, and agree to the license agreement. Then, you select the product pack and OS of host system. Then, select the product you want to download. The products are splitup by component or modules. You must download everything you need. Foundation, Essbase, Planning, and Reporting and Analysis if you are going to do any reports.
Product pack - Choose Oracle Enterprise Performance Management System
OS - I use a 64bit OS, but choose the right one that you will be installing on.
Then choose,
Oracle Enterprise Performance Management (*11.1.2.0.0*) Media Pack for the OS you choose
Once you have downloaded the required packs, unzip them all into one folder. Merge the folders together and copy and replace all files. Put a check mark in the box that asks to perform this for other conflicts.
Once you have all packs unzipped, run InstallTool.cmd

I am able to use the essbase once again.What i did that i removed D:\Hyperion/common/EssbaseRTC/9.3.1 from the ARBORPATH.
ARBORPATH: D:\Hyperion\AnalyticServices;D:\Hyperion/common/EssbaseRTC/9.3.1
But i do not know if it is the right thing to do.Please suggest.

Planning to Essbase Refresh using Appscheduler.exe

Hi,
I am having trouble when i run a planning to essbase refresh manually.
The error I get is: "Error 16; <windows_id> 04/27/09 16:35:09; AppScheduler; ScheduleApplication; 46: Unable to get Server Name - <Servername>Permission denied Application Name - <AppName>".
The refresh is part of an automated process where the script is running on <Server1> (not a planning server) and calling the appscheduler.exe on <Server2> (Planning Server)
I am able to run this using the command script when running from <Server2> (Planning Server). Any ideas as to what might be causing this?
The id i am using to run this script is an admin id and the id is an admin on both servers. I am also using 'admin' as the username to refresh.

How are you actually executing the script from the other server, it may because it needs to be executed on the physical server as it uses the servername where it is being executed, so will only work if the localhost executes it.

Coud you pls tell me, we can impliment multi currencies in planning and essbase.
If in company has implimented planning and essbase for one project .. where this multi currency concept will come in real time? when company's will go for essbse multi currencies and when planning currencies?

Yes, Essbase & Planning can do multiple currencies. It is more complicated to explain from an technical and setup perspective, but you can setup several ways depending on how the business wants to handle currency conversions. Planning has an option that will enable multi currency, but I would be careful and certain you want to do this. I only use this option if one of my requirements is that 1 entity member deals in more then one currency.
Long and short of it is it can be done.

Filter and general access issues from planning to essbase

V 9.3.1 Planning
I am working on a planning system where the business owners would like to restrict the lock and sending of data via smartview. Basically, users are bypassing parts of planning and going directly to essbase rather than forms. They had individual user filters setup but they would like to move to groups. I am using the importsecurity utility to try and achieve this. However, the access granted and filters are producing the following behaviour
1)Group has essbase write access - if this is enabled there appears to be unrestricted access via smartview. Take it away and #NoAccess appears despite security being applied to certain members using the importsecurity utility. I have read that this can be a bit of a loose canon when granted and conflicts with filters.
2) Cannot create filters - I wish to remove all user filters from within planning. However, the importsecurity sl_clearall command doesn't clear them (as I thought it would but appear to be wrong). I cannot create any filters. An error appear saying 'Failed to create Security Filters for the following users: xxxx' Is it possible to delete the filters?
3) If I refresh the security filters I get errors saying 'the following filters could not be created' but they are in EAS (I deleted all filters before hand). I have run the updateusers utility which tidied up msad users but still errors are reported.
The objective is to restrict each group to be able to write to the permitted part of the application and read where necessary. The permissions in planning need to match essbase.
I would appreciate any help.

Using relational data from SQL data source in Planning and Essbase

Hi,
How do I take sample data from a SQL data source and bring it into a Hyperion Planning application? I understand that when creating Planning applications, a link between a relational data source and Essbase must be established, because the relational database holds the metadata while the database outline is stored with Essbase. However, all I am currently able to do is load the data into Planning applicaitons via EAS, where I right-click on the Application database, hit load data, and select from either a .txt file or an excel file. Do I need Oracle Data Integrator? Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated, as well as corrections to any incorrect assumptions I may have made in this post. Thank you.

When you import your file (Excel or text), you're importing it using a Load Rule in EAS. To load from SQL, you simply create a SQL load rule. You'll load data the exact same way (via EAS), but with a different type of load rule. The load rule will contain the SQL that queries the database. You can preview your data in the load rule the same way you would with a file.
If your SQL is very complex, I'd recommend creating a view and loading from that view. But otherwise it's pretty straight-forward.
The only catch is that you need to configure a database connection (to your relational database) on the Essbase server. The Essbase DBA guide will show you how to do this.
You COULD use ODI, but I tend to only use it for loading metadata.

Migration of planning from essbase side

Planning Migration have:
1) migration of provisioning (CSSImportExport utility)
2) migration of planning application (using schema restore on dummy application) (data form, outline, task list, etc....)
3) migration of essbase objects for planning application (like business rule export/import, data export/import)
I am not sure which option should i use for moving calc script, report script, load rules, configuration file -.cfg, substitution variable, data cache settings etc)
should i use file copy to move file?
should i use migration utility inside EAS to move these information?
does the order of migration is correct 1, 2 and then 3.

Using Planning vs Essbase connection in financial reports

What are the pros/cons of using an essbase connection for financial reporting vs using a planning connection? we are on 9.2.1. using the Financial reporting studio client. These are basic financial reports-cost center expense reports, income statement, revenue analysis, etc.
I notice that when I use a planning connection, I cannot select any attribute dimensions in my financial report.
Also, are there any differences in the security used with a planning connection vs an essbase connection

you can select any attribute (see WorkSpace->File->Properties->Financial Reporting...)

there are not big differences.
We use planning for most of our reports. If report is very big (many rows or lines) we use financial report.

Create/Refresh Planning to Essbase

Hello,
When I make metadata changes in planning and then create/refresh in Essbase (Open Application/Manage Application/Manage Databases) those changes seems like unreadable symbols ('?') in administration services outline view/edit. When making those changes directly in outline through administration services it looks fine.
The hole hyperion instance and oracle database are installed on Windows 2003 with locale set to Russian, ESSLANG point to Russian_Russia.MS1251@Default,
orace database charset is UTF8, NLS_LANG is UTF8 also.
What is wrong in configuration? Can anybody help?

Supporting details are stored in Planning Applications RDBMS. check out HSP_COLUMN_DETAIL and HSP_COLUMN_DETAIL_ITEM in the application relational database

Planning and Essbase apps with same name on HSS-enabled Essbase server

I have an Essbase app "FOO" which was migrated from another Essbase server. I re-pointed an existing planning app also called "FOO" at this new server/app using the configuration setup utility. As soon as I did this, the app "FOO" disappears from the list of Essbase apps in EAS and HSS. The Essbase .sec file now has it listed as "Client Application Type: PLANNING". This is not so good as I now can't apply provisioning etc. to the Essbase app. I need to see this in both projects, as it was before - any ideas?
I tried:
* A MAXL re-register of the app but you can't as it gives "ERROR - 1051494 - Re-Registeration not allowed on planning application"
* In Planning, register the app with the HSS "Analytical Services" app but there is a bug in the GUI interface. The project name for an Essbase server always contains colon ":" characters and the GUI splits the project list on these so it's a mess and you can't select the project you need.

You can try to mount all these mount points via NFS in one additional server and then export this new tree again via NFS to all your servers.
No sure if this works. If this works, then you will have in this case just an additional level in the tree.

User Provisioning - Planning to essbase

Hello,
I have done user-provisioning in shared services for Planning and it gives them access to their respective costcenters in planning. However when I am connecting to smartview for adhoc analysis with essbase connection, it has no security.
Any quick fixes or suggestion to pass on the security to essbase?

I provisioned this User as a planner to use planning application with restricted access. The next step was to refresh the essbase filters through planning 'Manage Database' option with security filters & shared members selected.
I refreshes successfully.
How and where do I check in essbase as to if these users are created and provisioned accordingly.

Planning and Essbase Security Issue

Hi, we just upgraded to 11.1.2 and have been noticing occasional loss of security on LDAP groups. Hyperion SS refreshes the LDAP groups from LDAP periodically and the Workspace/Planning/Essbase servers refresh cache from SS. However, some times, these cache refreshes fail leaving users without any access. We have been working with Oracle to find a resolution, however, haven't had much of a luck so far.
Just wanted to check if anyone has faced and resolved such an issue.

Can we use ODI with Informatica for Planning and Essbase

If we have Informatica datawarehouse, can I use ODI to integrate with Essbase and Planning ? Or do we need to buy informatica adapters for essbase/planning ?

Thank you John, for your response. We are accessing our options as to which way to go. We dont have licenses for ODI for Essbase or Planning. We have informatica expertise we would like to use them. The confusion is should we buy the adapters for informatica or licenses for ODI. I understand having ODI with Informatica would add an additional integration layer.
