  • Envy 15t (I7-4710HQ + Intel HD Graphics 4600) SSD Compatibility?

    Hi All,
I'm looking at purchasing the Envy 15t  i7-4710HQ Quad Core Processor + Intel® HD Graphics 4600.
When I try to select the 256GB SSD for the hard-drive, I get an error telling me that the Graphics chipset is not compatible with SSD and vice versa. Either I need to select a regular hard drive or change the graphics chipset which unfortunately would require me to change to a dual core 4510U processor which I'd prefer not to do.
    http://www.shopping.hp.com/en_US/home-office/-/products/Laptops/HP-ENVY/G0T95AV?HP-ENVY-15t
I'm not too phased about buying the SSD from HP directly, I'm happy to add one in after the fact.
So, does anyone know if there is a definite incompatibility between the CPU / GPU and an SSD?
Additionally, is the 15t able to carry both an SSD and a regular hard drive?
I've seen the 15t-j000 being offered with both by default - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EWHJWLU/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2TC87EJKQMY9O
Assuming the 15t above is able to run an SSD, does this mean I can buy the 15t above with a regular hard drive and add an SSD for my primary drive after I get it?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
The Envy 15t with Intel HD graphics card probably doesn't have a mSATA slot. That means if the 256GB SSD is a mSATA one you can't have it in your laptop. I think it's the setup for the laptop from amazon. There is a 240GB SSD plus a 1TB HDD which is most likely a 240GB mSATA SSD and a 2.5" 1TB hard drive because the laptop has nVidia vga and also it's a 15.6" model with only one hard drive bay. Laptops with nVidia graphics chips definitely have a mSATA slot.
Yes, you can get the laptop with a hard drive and then upgrade it to a proper 2.5" solid drive.

  • HP Envy Touchsmart 15-J004SA Laptop, intel core i7, 16GB

    Hi,
So one evening i was doing my work on my desk the same as every other day and shut my computer down as normal.  I came back to my laptop the next day - which was still untouched in the same position. I open my lid, and find a crack all the way down my screen starting from the middle of the top, close to where the camera is situated, all the way down towards to bottom right corner of the screen.
I was absolutely astonished to find this as you can imagine, also after reading the forum i understand that others have experienced very similar problems with this topic and model of laptop.
I purchased my laptop from John Lewis as they promote and offer what falsly appeared to be a a great warranty.  I understand that this may be possibly out of their hands and lies with HP even though i have only had my laptop for a matter of 3 months.  However after waiting for it be sent off for a diagnosis i was told that the engineers at HP would be able to identify if there was an impact which caused the cracked screen (this is after i had assured that it had not be dropped or used forcfully of any kind, this is also in addition to it being in immaculate conditions anyway) causing severe inconvieneince as i am currently in the middle of exams and obviously being left without a laptop which i paid £800 for is just not acceptable.
A few days later i recieved a call stating no information of what impact was caused but whether i wanted to proceed with paying £437 for my screen to be fixed or if id like it to be returned to me broken.  When i asked John Lewis why it was classed as 'accidental damage' on my behalf, and also asked about where they found the impact had been made to the laptop, they were unable to answer my questions and they have now referred back to the engineers at HP for more information and an explanation as i was simply expected to just accept the fee for repairing a laptop which i had NOT damaged.
I think that all this comotion is completely inappropriate behaviour on the behalf of HP as they are clearly unable to stand behind their products, i have also found other posts on forums indicating similar problems, therefore it should be approached as a design fault or a manufacturing fault on the behalf of HP.  You cannot claim legally that someone has caused 'accidental damage' without proof to back up your statement.
I am not going to accept the £400 fee to fix my laptop when this is half of the overall price.
HP are letting me down with the trust i had built up with them as they are suppose to be such a reputable company hence why i chose their model of laptop to invest my money into.
I am completely and utterly dissapointed with the lack of support that i have recieved from HP in regards to a situation which is simply can not just be put down to accidental damage just because HP are unwilling to fork out the costs of products that they know are at fault.

I bought this back in December 2013.  Back then, the video would freeze permanently until I closed the the window and reopened the video.   An updated video driver came out which helped a bit with the problem.  The computer now freezes for a few seconds and then continues.  Still annoying and shouldn't happen.   Any thoughts?

    Hi,
Well, going back over your last 2 posts. Everything you mention points to a conflict between Firefox and Adobe's Flash. It's no secret that Firefox v. 31.0 has and is having a lot of problems. You can find this all over the web in a google search. As you've narrowed down the issue, the only suggest I have is checking out the Firefox forums(http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=38) or Adobe's(https://forums.adobe.com/community/flashplayer). Maybe one of the two have a work-a-round or fix.
You did make note that you thought IE was having an issue, this seems to have just "fixed" itself with flash. If you reinstalled or updated flash, that could have been the trick.
If the issue occurs again from multiple sources, please let me know.

  • Listen Up HP! I have some advice about the new ENVY 15t Touch!

    Hello HP and everyone!
I'm interested in purchasing a brand new HP ENVY 15t Touch, and would have ordered a fully-optioned one today, except my purchase came to a screeching halt when I saw HP's options for "Processor and Graphics" offered for the laptop.  I was slightly disappointed to find that HP now only offers the CPU and the graphics in a "bundle" as opposed to separate options, but I was astonished to see what the bundled options were!
See, the base processor and graphics are "4th generation Intel® Core™ i7-4710HQ Quad Core Processor + Intel® HD Graphics 4600," which is to be expected.  I like the i7-4710HQ, but wanted more in terms of graphics, so I looked down the list and found the next option to be, at a $70 upcharge, "4th generation Intel® Core™ i7-4510U Dual Core Processor + 2GB NVIDIA GeForce 840M Graphics."  I found the third option to be "4th generation Intel® Core™ i7-4510U Dual Core Processor + 4GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 850M Graphics" for $140 over the base option.
I found these next two choices to be highly frustrating.  I think it's absurd that HP insists I downgrade my CPU substantially just because I don't want the integrated graphics on their top-performing laptop, and then upcharges the CPU downgrade!  Respectfully, I think that was a terrible move!  Why HP can't offer both a quad core i7 and  a stand alone video card?  They did on their previous generation of the Envy 15 Touch, so I'm pretty sure it's not a power consumtpion issue.
So, HP, please offer your top-tier high-performance laptop with both a quad core i7 and  at least an NVIDIA GeForce 840M.  I think you will satisfy more of your high-performance customers, and lose less of them to your competitors.  I would have loved to order one of these laptops today with both the i7-i7-4710HQ and the 4GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 850M, but it seems that isn't going to happen right now.  I will be looking elsewhere to buy a laptop unless this changes.

As far as payment goes, I agree with the at least 50% up front rule. As far as how much you charge, that will depend on how many days of production and post production are being planned. Also your skills should come into play. This is a completely different job than your typical work and requires a much different skill set.
If you really believe in the show AND the producers ability to sell it, you may want to offer a discount on production of the pilot for a signed contract guaranteeing you the production contract of the series once it has funding. If you don't believe in both the show and the future potential, charge them full rate card, as there won't be any future work coming from this show.
Another thing to factor in is your ability. Producing a pilot is a completely different animal than doing events and wedding. Can you pull it off, honestly? Can you bring the vision to full potential?
Finally I can't stress enough the producers ability to sell it. It's not easy to get a foot in the door at the networks. Most often they only work with companies they've worked with in the past. They come up with new ideas and match them up with a vendor they already work with.

  • New Model: HP Envy 15t Upgrade HD to SSD or mSATA SSD?

    Hello Everyone,
I have been reading several threads on upgrading the HDD to SSD and it seems like everyone has been successful in doing so.  My question is, is there a benefit to upgrade the HDD to a SSD or to just add in mSATA SSD?  I currently have a networked drive that holds most of my data such as music, pictures, and videos so I do not believe I need more capacity on my hard drive.  With that being said, I planned on buying a 256/240GB SSD drive, it is just a matter of which one do I purchase? a regular SSD or mSATA SSD?  Thoughts?  Comments?  Concerns?
    Mike Lee
on a side note:  I have the new Envy 15t...I really wished they would have changed the model name to something completely different since the prefix is the same as their old model...stupid....
    This question was solved.

Get a regular 2.5 inch SATA SSD. Very slightly slower than an mSSD but still way faster than anything else. Trying to configure the mSSD as boot drive is a huge hassle.

  • HP Envy 15t k000 Battery Issues

I recenty got an HP Envy 15t k000 from HP home store. Customized to "4-cell 48WHr Lithium-ion Battery,"  I have been wondering if I upgraded from 41WHr to 48WHr I should be getting more battery life?
Can someone tell me how much is the difference in battery life? The upgrade to 48WHr was $10 more.
When I inserted the battery, it wasn't rigid in the place. It moves a little which I find annoying. (I guess its normal but if there ever is a new battery compatible for the model, the design fix would be appreciated).
Also, the battery's model is VI04 and I found it here on Hp website batteries page. So if 48WHr is VI04, which one is for 41WHr? Because VI04 is the only one campatible with HP Envy 15t k000.
Is there any extended battery (the big battery) for the mentioned model? Will there ever be one? It will be great if there is any extended battery for this model.

based on the specs, a 48 WHr battery will provide about 17% more energy than a 41Whr battery.  So if you currently get 90-minutes from a charge, the upgrade will provde an additional 15-min and stretch it to 105 under similar usage conditions.
Just multiple your current cycle by 0.17 to see how much time you would gain.

  • Envy 15t J000 Quad edition CTO BBV error?

HI everyone! I just got a envy 15t, and decided that I'd rather replace the standard hard drive with a SSD. I created recovery media (wasted 2 disks that failed to complete), and was going through the process of booting the SSD from the recovery media when I got "restoration Incomplete". It got through copying information from the 6 disks fine, and was (I think) in the process of installing drivers and the like, when it stopped. It gave me 3 options; save log, details, and retry. retry does nothing, as I insert the disk as instructed, but they fail to be recognized as recovery media. I've installed everything twice, and it failed twice, and the diagnostics on the computer return PASSED when run on the SSD.
The following is what came off the details page, with removal of time code. Help??!! HP phone Reps have no clue as to whats going on.
    ChkErrBB.CMD : Detect some error during PININST_BBV.
    check C:\system.sav\logs\BurnBootWarn.log
    or, check check C:\system.sav\logs\BurnBootMerge.log
Critical error condition was detected at BBV1...
Refer the following file if exists.
            - c:\system.sav\logs\BurnBootWarn.log
            - c:\system.sav\logs\BurnBoot.log
Switch to 2ndCap's WinPE and show [Recovery Manager]'s Incomplete dialog.
because RM's dialog can't appear on [Start] screen in Win 8 enviroment.
customer may not notice RM already shows error dialog.
There migt be unexpected reboot during BBV Clean or Last....
The process will cause CTO panic becuase the image might not be normal...

Hello, no I ended up just purchasing Windows 8 Pro and installing a fresh version on my HP Envy Touchsmart j053cl.
I installed a new SSD in the laptop and the recovery disks simply wouldn't get past the BBV error, even after I reset the default settings on the BIOS.
I spoke with HP support and they told me the recovery disks would not work with an SSD, which was really disappointing, as I've owned many HP laptops that have supported SSD easily. They also wouldn't send me a free new set of recovery disks because mine may have been broken.
I really love my Envy 15 and think HP should always keep the customer who wants to use SSD's in mind, as they are fairly common with users who own quad core Intel laptops. Thanks.

  • Planning on getting first iPhone

Hi, I was planning on getting my first iPhone, but I'm not quit sure on how everything works. First, do I go to the apple store or at&t store first? Do I need some type of proof that I'm an at&t customer? Second, once I get the phone, do I have to take it to the at&t store to set it up? Also, what is the base data plan I need to get when I set it up? This is mostly all I was wondering about, if anyone has past experiences with buying one, please post any problems you may have found.
    ~thanks

When iPhone first came out, it was a mess to get one, to activate it and get things set up. Now, it's a very simple process. You can get one and get it all set up and running right at the store. Apple, ATT, Best Buy, or even Wal-mart . . . AND as of this weekend, RADIO SHACK
Friday March 26, 2010 03:01 PM EST; Category: iPhone
    Written by Eric Slivka
AppleInsider reports that electronics retailer RadioShack is set to make a splash this weekend with an advertising blitz promoting the iPhone's availability in 3,000 of its 4,500 U.S. stores, pushing the company past AT&T and Best Buy to become the second-largest provider of iPhone points-of-sale behind Wal-Mart.
According to the report, RadioShack has been rolling out iPhone availability to hundreds of stores each week this year following last November's announcement that it would begin carrying the device. And to coincide with the advertising push, which will see the iPhone featured on the front of RadioShack's newspaper circular, the company is also knocking a few dollars off the price of the device.
For its part in this, Radio Shack plans to promote the entire family of iPhones on the cover of its March 28 circular, at what it claims are the lowest prices ever offered for the touchscreen handset nationwide -- essentially $5 off MSRP across the board, or $95 for the 8GB iPhone 3G, $195 for the 16GB iPhone 3GS, and $295 for the 32GB iPhone 3GS.
Apple's prices for the iPhone come in at $99/$199/$299 with a two-year contract, while Wal-Mart offers only the iPhone 3GS models at $197/$297 price points and RadioShack appears to be ready to set the standard even slightly lower.
RadioShack will reportedly also be promoting its Trade-In Program as a means for customers to replace their existing mobile phones with iPhones at discounted prices. Finally, sources indicate that RadioShack associates may receive as much as $30 or more in commissions for selling an iPhone, twice that of most other handsets and thus providing motivation for sales staff to encourage potential customers to consider an iPhone.
    Good luck. You'll love it.

  • Audio Stopped Working on ENVY 15t

    Hello,
About one week ago, the audio on my laptop (HP ENVY 15t-j000 Quad Edition CTO Notebook PC) suddenly stopped working--it was fine at one point, and then the sound stopped just one hour later.  I cannot get sound through either my internal speakers or headphones.  However, when plugged into a TV via HDMI, sound can be heard.  I have tried doing a system restore and reinstalling my drivers and I have not had success with either of them.  I have checked my sound settings and it appears that sound is being produced (I can tell by the speaker graphic that something is recognized by the computer), but I cannot hear anything; my speakers are enabled and are not on mute.  I'm stumped at this point.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you for your time!

  • ENVY 15t-j000 Quad Edition Hard Drive Thickness

I'm looking to replace the hard drive in my ENVY 15t-j000 Quad Edition with an SSD. HP's site currently does not list the thickness the the preinstalled hard drive. I would prefer to get an ssd that does not leave any extra unused space in the computer. What is the thickness of the hard drive installed in the ENVY 15t-j000 Quad Edition so I can upgrade to an equally sized ssd? Thank you.

    Hi,
It's very safe to use 7mm thick, as mentioned in my first reply.

  • Hp Envy 15t-j000 Slow WiFi

I've had my Hp Envy 15t-j000 (Windows 8) for about a week and my only complaint is the WiFi is painfully slow. The speed which it takes to download large files or load web pages with lots of images is much slower than my 3 year old Acer laptop. I used the Network Speed app to test the speed of the connection and the download speed averages out at about .7 Mbps. The Wifi card is : Realtek RTL8188EE I have a TP-Link Wireless N Router and I've had no issues with previous computers or my Apple TV, which streams HD content with no problem. When I use the Netflix app on the Hp Envy, the 1080p content looks grainy because the WiFi connection isn't fast enough. This issue really is making me think about returning the computer. I've downloaded and installed the latest driver for the WiFi card from the HP site. I've also updated the firmware of my router, but still no change. I noticed this issue right after setting up my computer initially and downloading some large files from the Internet, so I don't believe it can be any type of software issue (basically I don't want to restore my machine as I have many files and programs already loaded). I've read in other forums that some people are experiencing the same issues. Is there any other solutions to fix this issue? Is anyone getting the expected WiFi speeds with this machine?

After more time, I retract my statement that ajusting power management and wireless options fixed the issue.   I had less disconnects and more time before being disconnected but did not fix the issue.   Since I purchased two exactly same laptops, I decided to make changes to only one until the problem was proven fixed.   Contacted HP Support chat session and had me update windows and reset TCP/IP stack - did not fix the issue.  I have Intel wireless and bluetooth card (Centrino wireless-n-2230), so I downloaded an apparent more recent driver for this card directly from Intel, which seemed to help but not fix the problem.  I note this card is different from others without bluetooth reporting same issue on this thread. Just so happened that my wife called AT&T UVerse (my internet provider and wireless router hardware) about one of the tv boxes requiring reboot often.  It was a wireless tv box and UVerse tech ended up changing lots of hardware and said there were several problems corrected. Since the UVerse tech changed wireless router I have not had the disconnect issue on either laptop. So the laptop that ony had a couple power management and wireless options changed has not had any disconnect or slow wireless problems since.   And neither has the second identical one with more changes tried. So I conclude that the router hardware or setup doesn't like either this laptop or Windows 8 (other HP and other brand laptops running Windows 7 never had issues during entire time).

  • Will a 65w power supply work with the HP Envy 15t (which comes with a 90w)?

I have multiple extra 65w power supplies from previous machines.  The pin that plugs in to the machine is different, but there are converters to get the right size pin.  If I get that right pin, is it safe to use a 65w power supply with the HP Envy 15t, which came with a 90w supply?
One supply (65w) says the output is 19.5v, 3.34a.  Found another extra (90w) says the output is 19.5v, 4.62a.
The one supplied with the Envy says (90w) 19.5v, 4.62a.  I'm assuming with a pin converter, I can use the second one above?

    Hi,
For the 65W, It will work, BUT check the tip/connector. The only problems: battery charging could take longer time and for high graphics task it may display an error message. For the 90W, again pin/connector is the main concern.
