Plannoing application and ASO cube
Hi,
To my knowledge when we create a Planning application and create the database it creates a BSO cube.
But we had a call today with Oracle and they were suggesting to use ASO cube with Planning. Is it possible to have an ASO cube for a Planning app?
next, in the same call we had with Oracle, they were suggesting to use Smartlists for an essbase ASO cube. Is it possible to have Smartlists for essbase applications. Cause smartlists are drop downs which can be used in web forms. How can we use smartlists in spread sheet? Using smartview?
Typed measures in Essbase are simular to a Smart list in Planning. You can use it both in ASO and BSO.

Automatic outline sync between a BSO & ASO cube
We have a BSO and ASO cube connected through replicated partition.The partition & data update seems to work fine.Our next objective is to sync any changes made to BSO outline to the ASO outline automatically.
Can anyone provide any pointers as to how to achieve this?Agreed, hence the suggestion of staging the data. This way you create a comprehensive set of properties covering (in an EPMA-esque way) all properties required for BSO, ASO, Planning, HFM etc... as necessary; and then using views limited to the required fields for each application to generate files in the correct format for the build of its particular app. E.g. Simple parent child tables with Essbase properties for use with Maxl and Essbase load rules, (different for BSO and ASO), slightly differently formatted parent child files for use with command line utility for Planning..etc..

ASO Cube with BSO Partition as a Target
Hi,
Can someone please explain me the following because after reading different blogs as well as some other Essbase documents I am not able to understand,
What is the actual use of having a BSO Transparent partition (target) of an ASO cube (source)?
How exactly does the Write-Back functionality works if I have a BSO Transparent partition (target) of an ASO cube (source)?
And lastly, in what business scenario one would implement a BSO Transparent partition (target) of an ASO cube (source)?

fikesI have a situation where I have a BSO (target) on top of an ASO (source). This was to try and resolve the dynamic time series (where time and periods are in different dimensions). The DTS works almost great in the BSO partition.
The other problem (or why we wanted to go to ASO) was that BSO cubes do not handle attributes across partitions (we have quarterly data in transparent partitions) to the target cube. -- but we do have dynamic time series.
What I'm facing now it that the attributes work in the BSO (target) except when using a dynamic time series.
The attributes are defined in both the BSO and ASO cubes.
Any suggestions on how to handle attributes AND dynamic time series ? -
ASO cubes and dimensional security, how???
Hi,
I'm getting my feet wet with ASO, and I'm wondering how to implement security on dimensions in a way similar to a Planning application (which is BSO only, I understand). When administering a planning application, I can apply security to specific members in dimensions, then refresh security etc, but what can I do for an ASO cube? I'm assuming that ASO cubes can be created/administered only through EAS.
I need to be able to control what groups/users can access certain members of dimensions of ASO cube, when they run reports on the cube.

User management and security is the same either for ASO or BSO application from Essbase point of view.
You can either use Native security mode or security through shared services based on the configurations done.

I am working on an issue where a MaxL is closing and killing connections to an application and it's database before it Stops Application inorder to flip it into a working database. Frequently, the process fails at the Stop Application and were advise that we need an ulock objects statement. Are the locks and locked objects different? I can understand why there aren't locks on an ASO and I can see locked objects on an ASO when the outline is checked out. How else can an ASO have locked objects? I am updating the Maxl to include disables on connections, updates, and commands and to unlock objects against the database.
Now I need to test this and am wondering how to provoke a locked object on an ASO cube?

Adding commentary in ASO Cube and aggregating it to TOP Level
Hi Gurus,
I have one peculiar problem. We are adding commentary in BSO Planning cube now i have couple of problem related to it.
a) These commentary needs to be pushed in ASO cube (Reporting) which need are entered in Lower Level.
b) At top level these commentaried need to be Aggregated or rather Concatenated.
eg.
ProfitCentre has two child P1 and P2 and user enter commantary in BSO for P1 and P2 as "Market Risk Deviation" and "Standard Output"
then in the HSPgetval Smartview report the conent of report will look like:
Profit Centre Market Risk Deviation + Standard Output
P1 Market Risk Deviation
P2 Standard Output.
Any thoughts/ Suggestions/ Input/ Ways to achieve so

Not out of box, you are looking at a JAVA API + SQL based solution here
Here are my thoughts
Either use a Select query and get the Text values and IDs from the tables HSP_CELL_TEXT (or HSP_TEXT_CELL) table
Create a Java API, which can import a TextList in ASO cube, ID is going to be what you get from the table
Load the data to ASO from Planning
Now for the aggregation/concatenation part, you'll have to Add those as again Smart List, This can be done by looking at HSP_CELL_TEXT (or HSP_TEXT_CELL) table, there is an ID associated with each text, get the id associated
So for example Market Risk Deviation is 1 and Standard Output Deivation is 2, then you should add Market Risk Deviation + Standard Output as 3, however you'll have to make sure that there is no entry from Planning for 3

Export - import between ASO and BSO cubes of different structure
Hi everybody!
I have a 'large' ASO cube with information for a period of several years.
I need to be able to load a smaller slice (e.g. one quarter) from the 'large' cube into a BSO cube with a different (simpler) structure , perform calculations and then load the updated data back to the 'large' ASO cube.
What's the best way to approach this (import - export)?

I'm running version 9.3.1
The ASO cube has 12 dimensions plus 8 attribute dimensions.
The BSO cube - 8 dimensions plus 2 attribute dimensions.
Data size:
The ASO cube is about 1 GB, about 16 M input level cells. Only about 10 % of it will be extracted and loaded into the BSO cube.
The BSO cube is ~ 300 MB fully calculated. 300,000 existing blocks
I prefer not to load the BSO cube from the same source as because ASO cube contains not only the source data, but also modifications - for example - allocations etc. I would like to keep these modifications and to be able to load (modified) data to BSO, make additional modifications and then 'save' the modified data back to the ASO.
How should I approach loading data back to the ASO? I will need to 'replace' a slice of ASO cube - delete the 'old version' cells and load new version from the BSO cube.

Can we upload data in ASO Cube version 11.1.2

I have a requirement where in ASO cube users need the ability to enter their plan data into the ASO application. Do we need to create Transparent Partition for that. I have an ASO and Hyperion Planning cube and in my Planning cube I have more number of dimensions as compare to ASO.

Thanks in advance.If you are using the Excel add-in you do NOT do a lock, just a send. The lock is a BSO concept to put a hold on blocks. ASO has no blocks to lock. From smartview you do a submit and it handles it all for you. The beauty of using ASO is exactly what you mention, results are immediate without a calc.

Error while deploying ASO cube

i always got the following errors while deploying an ASO cube, the dimensions are from EPMA, even the cube deployed completely, the log file is always show the same message as when the deploy failed.
I really don't understand, because there is no attribute for BALANCE SHEET accounts.

If possible try extract the metadata of the application and see whether that is tagged as a "Generic" dimension.
I've the same problem described here Shared Accounts Dimension in EPMA is Deployed Without the "Accounts" Dimension Tag in ASO Application (Doc ID 1556499.1) in 11.1.2.3, where my Dimensions are a copy of Planning app.

Error While Building Attribute Dimension in ASO Cube
Hi all,
Cuurently I'm trying to bulit an ASO application in Oracle EPM 11.1.1.3
When I'm building an attribute dimension "QSize" in ASO cube ,I'm Getting some Warnings
I'm using Flat file as my source AND MY RULE FILE IS
GEN2,QSIZE, ALIAS2,QSIZE
1, ">100"
2, "100-249"
3, "250-499"
4, "500-1000"
5, "<1000"
I VALIDATED THE RULE FILES,
when i try to load the data into the essbase,Its giving me a warning stating that
Record #1 - Incorrect Syntax For Member <100 (3305)
*1 "<100"*
and i don't see the alias name for member 1
I came know that Essbase doesn't allow ">" character at the beginning of Dimension Or Member Name
Please let me know if there is Any other way,where I can Assign the alias "<100"

Failing that, go with GT and LT. <--This is incredibly lame, but sometimes users go for the "computer is too stupid" answer. Which in this case, is sort of true.

EPMA 11.1.2.1 - All rights suddenly grayed out after deploying ASO cube.
I created and successfully deployed an ASO Cube using EPMA (11.1.2.1). The next day, all rights to the ASO cube were grayed out in Application Library (i.e. Deploy option was grayed out). We learned from Oracle Support that you need to explicitly provision the creator with Application Manager rights to the cube, even if you are the creator of the application. This
behavior for ASO (and probably BSO cubes) is consistent when compared to a Planning Application (creator is automatically provisioned). Oracle Support confirmed that this is the correct behavior and that EPMA is functioning as designed.Are you saying that if you add the attributes manually in application it is coming to essbase and the ones in shared dimension are not coming.
Check whether attribute is inherited or defined at application level.

Problem working on member formulas in ASO cube

I was asked to convert a planning application BSO cubes into a single ASO cube.I have managed to convert one BSO Cube into ASO through EAS console and added the members in the other BSO cube throgh rulesfile.
Now i have to write the member formulas for the level0 members of Account dimension.These are very simple formulas like

"Error(1260052) syntax error in input mdx query on line 1 at token '=' Empty_Seats..."
Help me in writing these formulas and also in selecting proper member properties.The hierarchy is like
Account(gen1)
-> Statistical_Account(gen2)
->New Seat Additions(gen3)
I have tried tthis and the formula is verified successfully
*([Statistical_Account].[New Seat Additions]+[Statistical_Account].[Available_Seats])-([Statistical_Account].[Required_Seats])*
if i use *([New Seat Additions]+[Available_Seats])-[Required_Seats]* it is not veryfying throwing some syntax error

kkmy cube is corrupted ....luckly it was one of the ASO swap cubes...
I copied the ASOcube(good) folder and replaced the ASOcube(corrupted) with it in arborpath
while replacing the folder I manually converted the files ending in .app & .apb to ASOcube(corrupted)
now it's working fine...

Syncing BSO and ASO when there are extra members in ASO
Hi All,
I have a BSO cube for planning application and an ASO cube which is used for reporting purposes. Now the problem is heavy changes were made in planning like deleting members, moving members to a different parent etc and the ASO cube was not updated for weeks. Now I have to update the ASO Cube. What are my options?

Version 11.1.2Depends on how you are managing the metadata to the planning application.

Doubt Reg How to implement MDX formula in ASO Cube
We are using Essbase 7x for implementing ASO application, We are struck in implementing MDX formuls in Accounts dimension members. As per the requirement
We have to calculate
Cost Per kilo[Total shipment Cost]/[Billed Weight]
Fuel Surcharge cost per kilo[Fuel Surcharge cost]/[Billed weight]
Need to implement these formula's for the mentioned Accounts members. As we are new to this concept plz let me know if
we wrote these in MDX editor and how to link these to the particulr mrmber in the dimension.please help me out in implementing these formula'sHi,
1. For ASO cubes also, you can have forumulas on your cube's outline individual members.
2. If the dimension is "accounts" you can write MDX forumulas on the members of the accounts dimension
3. The two members 'cost per kilo' and 'fuel surcharge cost per kilo' and their respective forumulas are Total shipment Cost/Billed Weight and Fuel Surcharge cost/Billed weight.
4. If you have the members like Total shipment Cost,Billed Weight and Fuel Surcharge cost, create 2 account members for which you need to write formulas , then go to 'formula' tab of these members and write a simple division formula.For ASO cubes, no need to end them with semi colon.
One can use MDX editor to write down queries and extract data too, i.e queries . More of it can be found in the DBAG .
