Plastic Stand?

I just got my first ipod (nano 4th gen) and there is a little plastic part in the box. Apple feels the part is important enough to have a protective cover on one side of it, but for the life of me, I can't find any useful purpose for this thing. Does anyone know what it is? I thought maybe a stand, but the slot is on the wrong side.

  • IMac Plastics & Stand Questions

Are the (poloycorbonite) plastics as good as regular plastics, I mean does it get brittle over time.
and how tough is the stand mount in the iMac?

Don't take this a glib statement, but "time will tell." My Apple Studio Display is over 5 years old and the polycarbonite has not yet cracked. Eventually everything deteriorates, but this seems to be some durable stuff.
The stand on my iSight looks to be high quality aluminum that is about 1/4" thick and has a strong feel to it.

  • Little white plastic stand thingy what u get in box ???? how to put it on

Hi all, when I bought my ipod touch 32gig on Tueeday there was a little plassic stand thingy in the plassic box case, what's it for & how do you put it on? i've been trying to figure it out for days lol

Thanks for that, I've been wondering what it was for from opening the plastic box up as it doesn't tell you in the quick start guide, yup it's a little white plastic thing with 2 clips at the bottom & a hole in the middle of it with a grey piece of plastic sticking out with a number 16 on the grey platic thing lol,All I got in the plastic box with mine was that & the cleaning cloth, Usb Charger, Ipod Touch & the quick start Guide (didn't get anything else like the last poster said) So If I get a speaker system what say's IPOD on it, I'll be able to use my Touch with the dock connecter insert ? and does the speaker system have to support Ipod Touch or can I use any for Ipod with the dock insert thx

  • How does this little white plastic stand work?

I've got this little white (with a little grey part with the number 16 on it) thing which I think came with my iPod Touch 3G. I have no idea what to do with it. There is a hole in it that seems to be for the dock connector. But how do I use this?

Agreed. Many people have asked this same question as I had done so myself at one time.
    Have fun with your iPod.

  • Stand for placing external LCD on an MBP?

I'm about to buy a Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro and I'll be running it in clamshell mode at home. That is, it will be running closed while connected to a 23-inch Cinema Display and a Bluetooth mouse/keyboard. To minimize wasted desk space I'd like to keep my MBP under my LCD, but so far I have only found ugly plastic stands that do what I want.
It would be a shame to have such an ugly stand as the centerpiece of an otherwise elegant MBP and ACD combination. Any more aesthetic stand suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Found some decent alternatives on Amazon. Never mind.

  • IPod Touch is AWESOME!!

This is just a short review for anyone on the fence. There are tons of "professional" reviews of the Touch around the net but I thought I would give you my impressions. I have only previously owned the 5th Gen iPod Video.
First I have to say, This thing is friggin' AWESOME!
I received it yesterday afternoon! WOW, is all I can say. This device is really cool! Great quality, very bright screen, great video quality, great audio!
Web browsing is the best on a mobile device I have ever had (other than a laptop)! Being able to have multi page browsing on a mobile device is great! Using my home WiFi, pages load very quickly. Being that flash is missing does suck but other than that it works great! Bookmarks sync from Safari on your PC or Mac which is cool!
iTunes WiFi store is cool and works great (however I hope they add podcasts soon). I purchased "Rockstar" from Nickelback. It downloaded very fast.
The LCD is crystal clear. On screen text is super sharp and easy to read, even when text is small.
YouTube loads videos faster than my DSL wired PC using my wireless WiFi. Very cool!
Watching video on the Touch is a treat! Much better than my 5th Gen iPod Video. Video quality is crystal clear.
Viewing photos on the Touch is a pleasure. I love the pinch to zoom feature (also works in Safari).
Touch screen and typing work great! Typing is easier than I thought it would be. I do hit a wrong character from time to time but otherwise it works great. Touching icons, web links, music and video controls, etc. works great!
The size is great. Very Very slim and light. Easy to hold. Controls are intuitive.
I opted for the 16GB model because you get double the memory for $100 more. I am glad I did! I had to be selective with my podcasts, music, and video when I loaded it up. I have 4 GB of space left and have pretty much everything I want on an iPod. Of course if I put a movie or 2 on there, then I will have to look at removing some stuff. I was nervous before the Touch arrived that I wouldn't be able to get everything I wanted on it. But I have approx 250 of my favorite songs, tons and tons of audio podcasts, TV shows, Music videos, and several Video Podcasts. I know as time goes on the 16 GB will be restrictive, but honestly you can just edit what you have on there via iTunes.
The little plastic stand that is included was a nice "touch"
I gotta buy a case for this little gem! I left the plastic screen protector on until I can get a case. So far the few cases I have seen won't be shipping until mid-October
Lots of great little features like the Calender icon displaying the correct date, however if they did that, why doesn't the clock icon display the correct time?
Which reminds me, the World clock feature is cool. I think it was on my 5G iPod but I never used it. It is much more accessable on the Touch. Actually, everything is more accessible. Browsing the applications and lists on the Touch is easy and everything is well placed. I am extremely happy with my Touch. I think they are a little too expensive. However, I am okay with the price I paid. I know the price will drop (maybe sooner than later if iPhone is any prediction, lol). But I am okay with that. This device will go with me everywhere!
If I could change a few things about the Touch it would have to be:
When in the "Podcasts" menu under Music, it would be nice that if the podcast is video, it would play the Video when you click it and not just the audio. If it is a Video Podcast you have to go to Videos to watch it. It makes sense that only audio is in "Music" but it would be nice to have the option to play video if it was video.
When browsing podcasts, music lists, etc. it would be nice if this could be done in landscape mode as well. It gets annoying to be watching your favorite podcast and when it ends the screen goes back to letter style for browsing the lists. Just a little annoying, nothing major.
And of course the Calender needs to be editable from the Touch.
So far I have no issues, knock on wood!

  • . . I finally did it.....X D

    i dropped my ipod touch. i swore i wouldn't but i did.
i was cleaning it over a glass end table, and it slipped, hitting the glass table and then the carpet below it. unfortunately, there's a chip in the chrome exterior but no other damages have been found. thank goodness, sort of. i should really be more careful. let this be a reminder to all of you ipod touch owners. be careful with your investments!

oh tell me about it man, i had my ipod touch leaning vertical against the little plastic stand on my window frame, i was looking for a wifi signal haha, anyways i tried to press the connection button and it fell over smacking into the window frame edge, thankfuly nothing broke on the outisde (and hopefuly on the inside) i almost freaked out aha.

  • How can i open the left side of the G4?

    Hello!
Have G4 that is starting to sound like an aeroplane. I opened the four screws on the left side of teh computer but it still hangs on to the apple so I can not get the side off. I tried to pull a little but i is stuck.
How do I open the side after i have removed the screws?
There are a lot of dust bunnies/rats etc.
    Thanks in advance
    Per-Anders

There is a plastic stand-off, that's attached to the (inside) center of the side panels. When pressed into place, two tabs snap-lock the panel securely to the chassis. For the left side, removal of the internal fan assembly will provide access to these two tabs. Gently squeeze them together, and the panel will be released. To avoid breakage, don't use excessive force on them. The right panel requires removal of the logic board, to access the catch/release tabs.

  • Warped, bend, crooked Macbook Pro 15" unibody

After a couple of days with my new Macbook PRo 15" Unibody, I noticed the machine is crooked and the plastic stands underneath doesn't all touch the table, or whatever surface it sits on, at the same time.
It's off by approx. 2 millimeters - not much, but enough to make it annoying. And paying that much for a machine I would expect the hardware to be straight at the least.
So anyone experienced something similar? Do you think Apple will replace it directly?
    Flemming

    Hi Brody,
this discussion is really for another thread But no my 13" had a flickering display (the backlight dimmed slightly but constantly).
The 15" that went bad on me suddenly froze in the Finder during nothing but a TimeMachine backup. A hard reboot could not get me into the system (only got to the grey screen with the spinning cycle indicator). I couldn't even start from a CD.
So i guess it was more than just the hard drive. But I had just recently read about a lot of issues with the 7200 RPM - 500 GB drives that Apple puts in from the factory.

  • Overheated drives with TimeMachine

since a couple of days we use iomega minimax 750 gb firewire/usb2 drives attached to our macbook pro's.
as we use timemachine we found out that the iomega minimax drives really get hot. we almost can bake eggs on them. there also comes a slightly smell of "burned plastics" in the room.
as backup data is of utmost importance for us we just decided to immediately stop using these discs and send them back to apple store.
we think apple should warn timemachine users to buy drives with appropriate heat sinc design and or a fan.
any other experiences are very welcome.
btw. we are overthinking now buying products from g-tech (DRIVE-Q or G-MINI)

I work as a Macintosh Computer Consultant in the San Francisco Bay Area. I generally recommend ROCSTOR hard drives to my clients for Time Machine backup.
    http://www.rocstor.com/Products/rocpro-800av.html
They have no internal fan, so they remain very quiet. The top of the case is aluminum, which acts as a heat dissipator, so they don't get as hot. And if you position them vertically (with the included plastic stand), they will remain quite cool & take up very little desktop space. They come with all necessary cables, and a carry case to put the drive away when not being used.
For larger sizes, I like LaCie's drives.
    http://www.lacie.com/us/index.htm
LaCie's case design is vertical as well, not as quiet as ROCSTOR, but the metal case will also help dissipate heat. They also include all necessary cables for connection. Cheap plastic cases are nice for simple tasks, but IMO they're simply not designed to be on all day.
    Good luck.

  • URGENT- Removing KT4 Ultra

    hi Guys,
This is the first time I have ever done this (removing Kt4 Ultra) so would be very grateful if you could help. I have looked in the manual but there is no help on removing the motherbard and the holes don't seem famiiar. I have tried using a screwdriver but it doesn't seem to release the motherbaord. Any help appreciated.

Of course you removed first all cards inserted in slots and CPU/HSF and cables connected to Mobo. If you don't know where are the Mobo's holes you should take a look to the base plate where screws are inserted, so you'll have an exact idea where you'll find screws heads. For this, you have to take off side case cover. If not screws were used to mount Mobo, most possible plastic stand offs were used so you'll see white plastic points you can cut, freeing this way Mobo. Almost all Mobos has 6 holes ( 2 lines of 3 holes or 3 lines of 2 holes, 4 in the squares and 2 in the middle edges of Mobo) Take care when using screwdriver, as is easy to scrach Mobo.

  • Coverflow does not keep up with songs

I have my touch set up on the little plastic stand on my desk at work and have a playlist selected and playing. It is turned longways obviously to sit in the stand. Coverflow never changes unless you physically pick up the touch and turn it round, that triggers the change. Annoying - it should change as the playlist moves to a new song. Also on coverflow , you cannot adjust volume, etc, again you have to take it out of the stand and flip it around. Since they give you the stand , it would be nice to have more functionality in that mode.

  • Does putting a platic film over the screen hide blemishes?

I recently scratched the screen with the plastic stand (somehow). I was wondering if a plastic film would hide the scratch or would it make it even worse (airbubble?). The scratch is only visible in high light conditions (ex under a fluresent lamp) and could not be felt.

Unfortunately if you have scratched your iPod there is not much you can do about it.
There have been a few suggested solutions but all have pretty bad sideeffects:
*Glass Polish* Has been suggested but would only be benificial if done by a PROFESSIONAL glass polisher and finding one of those willing to work on an iPod would prove to be a challenge. And if you did manage to find one glass polish, while possibly hiding the scratch would make you lose touch sensitivite in the area of the ipod it was applied because it forms a film between your finger and the glass.
*Eyeglass Scratch Remover* has also been suggested. But that also has not been tested, would also result in lost touch sensitivity, and has the possibility of leaving a white residue in the scratch rather than filling it.
SO, depending on how bad your scratch is the best bet is to just live with it. At least the iPod is still functional. If you can find a good screen cover and properly apply it this may be your best bet.
-PS- When I say these solutions have been "sugested" It doesnt mean they have been suggested by APPLE, these are just solutions I have seen mentiond on the forums and have thus far seen none that remove the scratch well enough to be considerd a perfect solution to a scratched iPod. Using any of these methods is at your own risk.

  • Removing stand from Apple display

We have an Apple 17' Studio Display(blue case)-probably 6 years old-a large bulky thing with a plastic tripod stand(Apple family M6496.). I would like to remove this stand so I can package this monitor to ship to another school. The stand moves forward or back in one direction only, and feels like it is attached to a band or spring mechanism of some kind.Anyone know if or how I can removed this piece.
    Thanks
    John S

    John,
I responded once but it did not post. The fastener, to the best of my knowledge, is inside and requires more dismantling than you may wish. It is an Apple design so do not expect quick release tabs like 90% of the PC monitors out there.
Is there some reason a bigger box is not acceptable?

  • What is the best notebook stand to get?

I have been using this flimsy plastic Porta Book notebook stand for about a year - and today it finally broke.
    http://www.portabooklaptop.com/
I'm looking for another computer stand to replace it - hopefully another one similar to what i had (but hopefully better made). I always had papers and stuff under it.
So then i found the iLap, a little pricy - but it looks decent.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/TK790ZM/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY
Does anyone have any experience with the iLap? Is it safe to stuff in a backpack without getting bent and messed up? Or is there any other suggestions to a decent stand that won't break on me? Thanks

I like this one. Works well. Fan can seem a bit noisy at first, but I got used to it.
