Plastic TouchPad device frame cracks near speaker!!

OK, I've had my precious TouchPad 32 since July 1, and today/tonight, while turning my touchpad in my lap from portrait to landscape, I realized that BOTH of the inside edges of the upper frame of the plastic above the routed-out speaker holes had snapped...and what's intriguing is that the line the crack followed is IDENTICAL in both cracks.
Given my background in product development, it would seem that the TouchPad outer housing was molded and each part was trimmed with the routing that leaves the sharp edges... and that it is a plastic mold "knit line" (where the semi-liquid plastic conforms around two areas to meet) that the snap occurred...
I smell a big problem down the road for HP.
And, btw, HP, I'll need a new TouchPad, cause I sure ain't keepin' this one. Call me.

For these types of cracks, you need to call support or chat.  If they're minor/cosmetic you are probably best just to not be concerned with them.  However if they are impacting the use of the device, they should be replaced.  The agent you talk to should be able to determine this.
Understand, though, the TouchPad is no longer being manufactured.  So a replacement will be a refurbished device.  And may have the same minor cracks (if yours are minor) as the one you have now.

I had an accident, my iPad mini was dropped and the screen cracked also speaker damages
How can I fix it in malaysia

Apple does not repair iPads, but will replace the entire iPad for a flat fee. See the Service Pricing section here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipad/service/faq/
There are independent iPad repair services that may be able to replace the screen for less. Do a web search for "ipad repair".  You can also look for parts and instructions and do the repair yourself. Note, though, that if you elect to have the iPad serviced by an unauthorized shop or perform your own repair, you will get no further support from Apple.
    Regards.

  • HP Touchpad Crack by Speaker

Got a refurbished TP in the eBay sale. I knew about the issue with the case cracking and bought it anyway. Mine has already cracked by the left speaker. I heard that some TPs that were returned are now being sent back with a new case version. Is this true?
    ack.
My TP works great and I really don't want to send it back.
Any ideas on how to stop the crack from spreading? I was thinking epoxy but I was told it wouldn't work.

I mighty call them now. Depending on whether the case they fix it with is the same or not. I figure whatever TP I get back with the same case version will crack in a couple of weeks.
Worst case scenario is there is no fix and I just send it in, get another, and sell it for 2x what I paid. If that is the case I wont be buying HP again though.
I don't know if HP re-engineered the TP case or not.  But I can tell you that I have a TP that I bought in mid-July that has no cracks whatsoever.  So mine's the original case design (if there was a re-engineering).  As soon as I got my TP I slapped it in the official HP TouchPad case and it's not developed a crack.  I can assure you it'll never come out of that case, because I don't want to risk flexing the case in such a manner that would cause a speaker crack.
I wish you the best of luck.

  • X1 Carbon 2015 : Cracking sound speaker, especially with Dolby on (and other issues)

    Hi all,
I just received my new X1 Carbon 2015. This is the first time I purchase a Lenovo Device after years with Dell.
Unfortunately, the sound quality is horrible, but I am not sure if this is by design of if the laptop is faulty..
The sound is very bad when it is coming from the speakers, especially the left speaker: the sound is cracking and saturating. This is especially true when the Dolby is on, and you clearly hear the problem with standard Windows event sounds (for example the sound you can hear when you adjust the volume with the slide on the sound icon next to the clock), or any warning sound.
No problem if I use an headset.
Am I alone with that issue?
Even if the device looks great, I have to say that I am overall disappointed by the laptop quality, especially regarding the cost of that device (this is the Core i7 with QHD touchscreen and 512GB PciE SSD):
    - When I received it last week, the left button from the trackpad was stuck (impossible to use). I had to gently scratch the side of the trackpad button to release the button. Probably some remains of the manufacturing blocking the button.
    - Then I noticed that sound issue.
    - And finally yesterday, I discovered a spot on the bottom right of the screen. Not a dead pixel, but a clear spot behind the pixels, 1 square millimeter,  reflecting the backlight.
    Thanks
    Pierre

Just had the IBM service tech at my house to replace the left speaker (I had purchased on-site service contract). He replaced it with a new one, and it now sounds normal - the distorted cracking & buzzing is gone. There appeared to be some tiny nicks or cracks on the original speaker element, which may have caused the problem.
The process was fairly painless. Lenovo had the part in stock, shipped it to a local tech, who scheduled the service call within a day.
The sound quality of course still isn't great without external speakers or headphones - these are just tiny little ultrabook speakers, after all. But at least now the sound from the built-in speakers meets my expectations, and doesn't make me cringe when I hear it. Once again enjoying my new Carbon X1...

  • Hairline cracks near the power button :-(

Hello everyone!!  this is my first post here... so sad that it has to be a negative one.  i dont know if someone else has posted this topic, but i dont really have time at this precise moment to check.
i have a small hairline fracture just about the power button.  i did absolutely nothing to cause this crack.  my mother also has this tiny little crack in the same place.  i guess its just a flaw in the materials used for the device.  but, this is really frustrating because im afraid it might crack all the way, and then im stuck without a phone.  also, my power button is a little flimsy, and i dont abuse this phone because it is my first smartphone, and i need it to work properly for two years before i can upgrade to one of those pretty and bright new centros.
my question is... why are these same things happening to so many other palm centro users (the hairline crack mostly)??  palm workers, please look into this issue.  i dont think you want to have a bunch of palm centro users returning their phones to the stores because of these little cracks that are a HUGE problem.  in fact, i dont think you even want to sell a product that has a defect like this to begin with!  i love my phone, i love palm, but i DONT want a device with flaws the second time around.  if i could i would take it back to the store, but i am out of warranty and without insurance. perhaps there is a way that i could still get a new/ refurbished one for a minimal fee (NOT full price)?  it has happened to me before.... one of my old phones had issues with the screen and i took it and i got a refurbished replacement for 30 dollars.  the replacement worked perfectly fine.  if this is possible with the centro please let me know because i will go the sprint store in a heart beat.  in fact, if i get a wonderful refurbished phone without cracks i might not even upgrade because the newer one is almost the same (although more memory is nice..... if you guys release a purple colored one to sprint then i will definitely upgrade because thats my favorite color.... you might want to keep that in mind ).  what worries me is the crack and the power button.  i need help.... any suggestions??

  • Apple devices will not find speaker.

  • Small hairline crack near screen hinge. Fix?

I just noticed that my 2010 white Macbook has a 3/4" hairline crack on the outter part of the screen/lid right by the hinge. It's not really affecting how the computer functions or anything. But it really bothers me. My warranty runs out on Jan 20th 2012. Will the warranty cover this?

If it matters, I didn't purchase additional AppleCare coverage on this one. It just has the 1 years limited warranty that it comes with.

  • MacBook- Plastic on base breaking/cracking off

I have noticed many people with the early edition of MacBooks reporting that the plastic breaks off the base on each side of the track pad... I too have the same problem. It appears that the small plastic supports above the screen hit the base and weaken the plastic, until small strips about the same size as the to supports loosen and break off. I don't suppose Apple will do anything about this design flaw if your MacBook is out of warranty... Just wanted to make people aware of the issue again and .... maybe put some other screen/cover support between the top and bottom before closing the top. Don't know if the issue has been solved on the newer models.... An Apple fan from the beginning, but very frustrated with this design flaw.

I haven't had that problem on my Core 2 Duo Macbook (purchased April 2007, I think.) My wife's older Core Duo Macbook had the problem you described, but she took it a Genius Bar and they replaced the broken part under warranty. In my experience, Apple will sometimes fix problems like after the warranty ends, as well.

  • Cracks near hinges and bottom cover falling off

My 2010 MacBook is cracked at the hinges and the bottom cover is warped and slowly falling off. Can I get these fixed for free?

It would be worth asking at an Apple store!
When I had a battery replaced a year or so ago, my bottom cover was improperly replaced and appeared warped.
Without batting an eye, they offered to replace it - no charge.
I thought they were just being kind but it turns out it's a common problem on MacBooks from a certain time period (circa2010), so it is Mac's POLICY to replace them without charge when they warp!
    http://www.apple.com/support/macbook-bottomcase/
I have the same cracks appearing at the hinges (no bumps or drops, only a well-traveled and much used Mac!) but haven't asked about what obtaining a replacement shell would entail. If I do so before you, I'll reply again with what the terms / cost of replacement would be!

  • IPhone 3gs, Crack near charging dock

My iPhone is out of warrenty and I only noticed it today after removing my silicone cover to give it a clean,  Is this a manafacturing defect that can be replaced or am I out of luck?

Should i take it in now or wait for it to cause problems?
Make an appointment now. The geniuses can tell whether this crack was caused by user damage or a manufacturing defect. It won't get better on its own.

  • There is a persistent red dot/light on my Iphone 5 at the top of the device, next to the speaker. What is this? And why can I see it?!

This red light has been present for a long time now and I can see it clearly at night and vaguely in the morning. It is actually quite annoying now. Surely I can't be paying so much for a phone that is going to do that? Can you guys please tell me what this is and why it's happening?

What you are seeing is the proximity sensor.
Try basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide which is reset, restart, restore.

  • Plastic cracking on iphone 3g; What to do? Vodafone PT doesn't replace it!

    Hi
I have one iphone 3g for 1,5 months, and I noticed something.
In the back, the plastic case is cracking! :S
I never dropped the phone! It is treated like a baby! Always protected, always with care! Nevertheless, first, appeared a crack near the jack and the metal protection (about 1mm), now is appearing on the other side of the jack and going on the way of the silence button When it reaches there maybe that part will fall out and show the interior!! Is this Ok? Is this a "Feature" of the iphone?
What, I've done, basically, went to a Vodafone Technical Assistance in Portugal (Circunvalação; Porto) store and it was said that nothing can be done! They admit that it is a fault, as the phone is impressivelly tacken care (it is new!), but they can do nothing as Apple don't accept any defects so, no garantee! :S WHAT??!?!??
Is this for real? Let me see, is there any "feature" listed on the iphone that is the plastic Cracks!? Is this a "feature"? If is not a defect what is it?
I've come home and found several pages on the internet with several reports of cracks! So, I'm not the only one! So, is it now a problem? A defect? Or is it still a "feature"?
I work with Apple for more than 20 years, and I've never saw Apple running away from their responsabilities, is it going to be the first time? Am I going to have a Iphone with a opening on the plastic case? Then what? Apple say that is not the correct way to treat the phone and doesn't activate the garantee?
What Can I Do Apple? Vodafone doesn't help me and tells me to ask you... but in Portugal, how can I contact Apple? Am I going to have a defected Iphone and you don't do anything?
Here is the proof of the new "feature" of the plastic case! :S

    That is the problem!
    The denial of the service!!!
I'm also putting this information here, hopping that someone that can do anything in Apple do something and inform that Vodafone or Apple Portugal is not acting in the best behavior!
What was said to me is that Apple is not giving any Warranty! Basically, what I understand, is that Vodafone and Apple are selling a Phone with warranty, that if something happens, nothing is done!!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS ILLEGAL! The warranty in Portugal is like all European Union country! Everything has 2 year warranty!
As you might imagine, this is not my first apple product with a problem (my last macbook had a problem 1 year after buying it and it was solved with no costs for me!) and it is not my first phone (various and plenty examples of nokias, motorolas, samsung, etc with problems!)
I don't understand this problem with Iphone! I'm being affected with a bad service by Vodafone and Apple Portugal, because they deny any kind of warranty activation for any iphone (not only mine!!!) in Portugal! This was what Vodafone told me as they can't do anything because Apple doesn't allow them to do anything (but they realize that my problem should activate the warranty)!!
    Is this Real!?!??!
Note: Nevertheless, thanks for trying to understand the situation. I believe that you can follow up this with Apple, if possible, please do! I'm not the only one in this case in Portugal!

    Hello skywalker eyedoc,
If you chose to "forget" a device in the bluetooth settings, you'll simply need to put that device back into pairing mode (or "discovery" mode) for the iPod touch to find it once more. You may need to refer to the bluetooth speaker's documentation or manufacturer for information on how to do so.
