Which platform is best suited for Weblogic? Is it Windows or Unix? and why? Please give reasons.

I think that either will work fine so pick the one you are most
comfortable with...

  • I am trying to identify which platform is best suited for creating a digital magazine?

HI, and thanks in advance for any help.  I publish a digital magazine on Joomag, but want to move away from that platform and use adobe.
I simply don't know which platform within the suite is best suited for a novice user.  I'm not a luddite, but not a wizard either.
    Can someone recommend some solution?

If you only need to handle 2 clients, I see no reason why you
couldn't run your FMS on your Windows XP machine.

  • I need a digital voice recorder best suited for recording my voice for chorus and quartet rehearsals

I'm looking for a small digital Sony voice recorder best suited for recording singing for chorus and quartet rehearsals.  I received model ICD-AX412 but don't think that's the right one for this. I found a couple other models PCMD50 and PCMM10 online but want to know what to get!

    Hello Carol,
    Welcome to Sony Community.
When recording a chorus place the IC recorder on a table approximately 2 to 3 meters (80 to 120 in.) from the performer(s).
Set up the IC recorder with the display window facing up, and with the built-in microphones pointing towards the sound source.
Refer to page # 34 of the Manual (ICD-AX412) about placing the IC Recorder for recording chorus.
Also, select the Recording scene as “Lecture” for recording a chorus lesson.
You can refer to page # 32 and 33 of the Manual to select the recording scene.
Please mark it as "Accepted Solution" if you find this information useful.

  • Writing pad best suited for Mac.

    Hey Everyone,
I have an IMac G6,1 Intel Core 2 Duo.
This is my first time owning a desk top computer...I've only ever used powerbooks...I've also never used a mouse extensively...Well, after 3 months of intensive computer use, I'm getting shooting pains in my wrist. These are the first signs of carpel tunnel...Sigh.
I'm in the market for a writing pad. I'm aware of the Wacom Intuit writing pad...Is anyone familiar with this pad? Can anyone suggest the writing pad best suited for Mac?
    Appreciate the help,
    SB

    Hi SB!
Sorry, no help with a writing pad.
But, I've had the same wrist pains, and mine came from using the keyboard and mouse on a regular height desk top of 28.5 to 30 inches above floor level, along with regular height chairs. Try using a typewriter stand or calculator stand height of about 27.5 inches instead, for your keyboard and mouse. That's why computer desks have a separate level built-in. Another alternative, that I'm able to use successfully, may be to raise the height of the seat on which you sit, best done not with an actual desk that has a center drawer, but with a table (or a desk with only drawers off to the sides). The key is that your wrists must be able to relax even while typing.

developing EJBs on a WebLogic Server?
Any ones that are no good? Which is the one you would recommend?
    Chris
WARNING: Questions such as these can be akin to asking what is the onetrue
    religion at a UN Assembly.
I have been desparately trying (for 4 months) to properly review four IDEs
in the hopes of finding something to beat Emacs (or Visual SlickEdit), a
    command-line, and a third-party profiler/debugger (like JProbe). I have
    and I've stopped. Here's why:
    (1) When I started WebGain 4.0 didn't exist. Was I to suddenly trust a
buggy IDE (VisualCafe) being attached to what may or may not be a well
integrated suite of tools. I know StructureBuilder rocks, but how wouldit
work within these confines? My evaluation lasted two days. I counted the
number of crashes and where. I timed how long VC could stay open on my
machine (PIII 866/512MB). Final result? StructureBuilder (not an IDE,but
a class wizard that really does kick butt), over VisualAge, JBuilder,
Forte' and WebGain, offered the best bang for my buck in terms of
developing EJBs. Did we get it? No, but the reasons are not technical.
We already had Together/J to create class templates and didn't want to
spend $1000 per seat for a program that consolodates file templates and
    command-line programs.
    (2) Which brings me to cost. $3k (the usual street price for the
"enterprise" IDEs) is just too much. I told my company that I'd rather
have everyone handed a $3k bonus than to be saddled with an IDE (I'll
explain later). Java 2 SE and EE and all the libraries are free.
Furthermore, WebLogic wants you to use their compilation of the EE
libraries. Why should I pay $3k just to be able to compile theseprograms?
Only JBuilder and Forte allow you to compile EE programs, and only by
adding the libs yourself. VisualAge Pro won't let you import the library
and Cafe Pro balks as well. WebLogic has a plug-in for VAJ which allows
Pro, at $150 a good deal, to compile EE but the plug-in has its ownissues.
This, of course, does not address the reality of what you want, and thatis
wizards to create these special classes.
    (3) Which brings me to code generation. Has anyone analyzed Visual Cafe's
generated code? It's pathetic. Monolithic, wasteful and very touchy.Any
manual adjustment may or may not break the IDE's interpretation of the
logic. JBuilder is no better. Forte' usually crashes before I get tocode
generation. Visual Age generates some dynamite (and complex) code.
    (4) Which brings me to VisualAge. I think a lot of developers would agree
with me that if VisualAge had a "use repository/file system" toggle it
would be the hands-down, most kick-ass IDE in the land. It's a current
"change request" at IBM, but no promises have been made, that I know of.
The debugger is hands down the best of the big 4, it's visual composer is
easy to use, visualizes beans and components very well (considering the
limitations Java's AWT places on visual coding), and generates the best
component initializing code. If it wasn't for the repository. For the
unitialized, the repository is IBM's way of convincing (strongarming)
developers into having version control and on-the-fly code compilation. If
you begin and end your project in VisualAge and everything VAJ gives youis
fine, then VAJ is the way to go. However, if you already have a corporate
version control system (please tell me you do), you're at a loss as to how
to integrate with it. I worked at IBM and was told to use VisualAge. I
replied "How can it interface CMVC (IBM's workflow and VCS, which rules,
btw)?" The reply "Uh...we didn't think of that. Keep using Emacs". That
was 1997. Little has changed, apparently. That little is IBM'senterprise
repository, a way to let an entire group of developers have VAJ's
repository features across a network. Course, it's only available on the
enterprise version, don't pass go, cough up the $3k/seat. Oh, if you want
to not use the repository or need to have actual file system files (the
repository is one big file) you have to import and export your source
    regularly. Not fun.
    (5) Which brings me to version control. None of the offerings connect to
version control very well. That's not their fault. On Solaris, there is
no "scc" (windows' universal source control API, like ODBC cept forversion
control) so you go back to command line world. The IDE makers didn'tspend
a lot of time considering non-SCC solutions so you're pretty much screwed
on non-Wintel platforms. SCC? It sucks. It relies on the VCS vendor's
dlls. PVCS' SCC interface is buggy, slow and hard to use. Visual Source
Safe? I refuse to use it to manage source code, although it has thesecond
best SCC interface. The first? Perforce's. Course, it mimmicks RCS/CVS.
Concurrent version control has seem to have lost favor with people (BSD
uses it, you should too) and its concept is not reflected in the SCC
interfaces built on IDEs. Bottom line? SlickEdit + Perforce or Emacs +
CVS (or CMVC, a lisp module exists within IBM) is still the best
"integrated version control" development platform with propers given to
VisualAge and its repository for an alternative solution with no prior VCS
    in place.
Trying to tell a group of eclectic and highly motivated (and paid) people
to settle on one development environment is very hard. Properly done, you
must settle on an IDE, have everyone trained (I can't stress thatenough.
Handing a hammer to a monkey usually results in broken skulls) in it and
use it religiously. For small startups like mine or fixed-budgetprojects,
this is just not feasible and thus we settled on a development environment
    rather than an IDE.
Was that a long (it could be thorough) enough answer?

  • IMac - what graphic card best suited for Aperture???

Hi, I'm considering buying the 24" iMac to use with Aperture 2.1.2, however it comes with the option
    of two graphics cards:
    ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO w/256MB GDDR3
    NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS w/512MB GDDR3
I don't play any games, so what I want is the best card for use with Aperture (and I guess core image?).
From what I can see at barefeats.com its not necessarily the biggest card which is the best, since they are often optimized for games and not so much 2d graphics.
Right now I use Aperture on my 2.2Ghz MacBook Pro with 128Mb Nvidia card, and its not the fastest combo at all.
    What is your opinion?
    Best,
    Peter

AFAIK the Barefeats commentary <http://barefeats.com/imp01.html> seems accurate and suggests that the 2600 card is best value.
If one is buying a new desktop box, iMacs are much more limiting to Aperture performance than Mac Pros, even a 2006 MP. So the only reason to consider an iMac is price. Once we acknowledge that the setup build is about accepting lesser Aperture performance to achieve lower price, the significance of the $150 extra for the 8800 card becomes more apparent. IMO if one is price-constrained to buying an iMac then the $150 that might have gone to an 8800 card is better spent on adding the necessary maximum RAM and FW800 external hard drive(s).

  • What platform would be best suited for this application?

What I am trying to develop is a multiplayer game that is
similar to sites such as pogo.com or yahoo games where it is
multiplayer with separate rooms and each of those rooms shared
information, but not between each other. It will of course also
need database access. I have been developing in FMS but now I found
the existence of Remoting and just wondering which would be a
better solution for me and if anyone can, explain the clear
difference between the two and an example of an application for
    each?
it may also be of importance to include that the platform I'm
developing for has no java capability.

    FMS. IMO

  • Best Hardware for WebLogic 10.3 Installation?

    Hi All,
I would like to know about the best Server on which WebLogic 10.3 can be installed. My client requires an application, which can process 100 million transactions per day. Since I am new to WebLogic and I don't have much idea about the hardware part, your suggestions would help me. Thanks a ton in advance..
    Regards,
    Anoop.

Depending on your requirements, you can choose any of the h/w from supported configurations. There are many factors that could
influence your decision. Like for an example only IBM JDK is supported on IBM h/w with weblogic server. No of CPU's , RAM and storage
    are another factors.

There is no Flash player version 15... as in your code:
    <param name="swfversion" value="15.0.0.0" />
For some reason Adobe thought it would be a good idea to target a Flash player version (15) as default.....which may be out a couple years in the future. Go figure!!!
If you don't like player version 9, change to 10 or 11.... just not 15 (yet).

  • Best practice for weblogic portal

While creating a portal application , what is the best approach, use jsp or jsr-168 portlets and minimum proprietary tags from weblogic or should use all those custom controls and stuff from weblogic

    Hi,
There is no such best practices given by the Bea Systems. But if you are creating a weblogic portal application and you want to have portlet rendered on the portal, the pageFlow portlet is the best way to render your web application on the portal. There are advantanges of the pageFlow:
(1)Easy in development of web application
    (2)Graphical view of your navigation
(3)J2EE Resources can be accessed easily with use of controls.
(4)Can use Behive Netui tags which is having lots of tags which can be used without writing complex logic.
(5)Complex j2ee logic can be written in the form of Annotation which can help the developer to write complex j2ee coding

  • What Apps are best suited for my Specific Purpose?

I am in need of some advice. I am very close to pulling the trigger on an IPad, I would like to use it as a one on sales presentation tool in a retail environment to my clients. Here is my question.
My company uses documents that are to be used doing the sales presentation; I would like to draw / sketch and make notes on the documents that are saved on the IPad to be used over and over. I like the idea of using innovative technology to do what I want to do.
This would be a put of pocket expense for me until I can prove to the company that it is a worthwhile investment. What simple apps are available that allow me bring up the documents and make my side notes, sketches, drawings and any other comments that I may want to use during the sales presentation.

  • What current model camcorder is best suited for FCP 4.0

I have a PM G4 FW800 Mirror door running 10.3.2 and decided to get into this video stuff. I am a Pro Tools user.
What camcorders will work with Final Cut Pro 4
Will any 1394 Firewire Camcorders work ?
How about current Cannon , Panasonic or Sony ?
    Anyone with experience ?
    thanks

Most 1394 DV camcorders will work with FCP. Some older models out there (think Hi8) lack device control, but will still import using Capture Now.
There is a list of "certified" camcorders for FCP, but its vastly incomplete. I have never seen FCP simply not recognize a camcorder with FireWire.
As far as brands are concerned, it should come down to what fits your needs and preferences. All three of those big name brands should be fully compatible.

  • I'm a recently graduated film student and my macbook pro needs an upgrade... Will be using FCPX, Adobe CS6 etc. Which 15' macbook pro will be best suited for me? I'm most concerned about the processor speeds (what do they really mean in english?)

I need a new 15" MBP for film editing. The processor speed numbers are confusing.

The Tech Specs for the MBPr are here:http://www.apple.com/macbook-pro/specs-retina/ and you can see both 15" models come with the i7 processor, one at 2.0 and the other at 2.3 GHz.  The processors are identical except for the clock speed, which directly indicates how many calculations a second they can perform.  If you are doing things like editing or rendering or ray tracing, heavy duty computational things, the faster the processor, the less time it takes to do the task.
But the 2.3 GHz machine has even more, twice the memory and twice the storage capacity.  With film work that will get to be important since you can load more directly into memory where it is readily accessible to the processor, and twice the storage so you do not have to move material to an external drive so soon.  Both of which will contribute to faster workload turn around for you.
For your needs, the faster machine with twice the memory and twice the SSD storage will be the thing you need.  And, keep in mind that the MBP cannot be upgraded after purchase like in the past.  So get all you will need now at the time of purchase.

  • Networking "best practice" for setting up a farm

    Hi all.
We would like to set an OracleVM farm, and I have a question about "best practice" for
    configuring the network. Some background:
    - The hardware I have is comprised of machines with 4 gig-eth NICs each.
    - The storage will be coming primarily from a backend NAS appliance (Netapp, FWIW).
    - We have already allocated a separate VLAN for management.
    - We would like to have HA capable VMs using OCFS2 (on top of NFS.)
I'm trying to decide between 2 possible configurations. The first would keep physical separation
between the mgt/storage networks and the DomU networks. The second would just trunk
everything together across all 4 NICs, something like:
    Config 1:
    - eth0 - management/cluster-interconnect
    - eth1 - storage
    - eth2/eth3 => bond0 - 8021q trunked, bonded interfaces for DomUs
    Config 2:
    - eth0/1/2/3 => bond0
Do people have experience or recommendation about the best configuration?
I'm attracted to the first option (perhaps naively) because CI/storage would benefit
from dedicated bandwidth and this configuration might also be more secure.
    Regards,
    Robert.

Option #4 (802.3ad) looks promising, but I don't know if this can be made to work across
separate switches. It can, if your switches support cross-switch trunking. Essentially, 802.3ad (also known as LACP or EtherChannel on Cisco devices) requires your switch to be properly configured to allow trunking across the interfaces used for the bond. I know that the high-end Cisco and Juniper switches do support LACP across multiple switches. In the Cisco world, this is called MEC (Multichassis EtherChannel).
If you're using low-end commodity-grade gear, you'll probably need to use active/passive bonds if you want to span switches. Alternatively, you could use one of the balance algorithms for some bandwitch increase. You'd have to run your own testing to determine which algorithm is best suited for your workload.
The Linux Foundation's Net:Bonding article has some great information on bonding in general, particularly on the various bonding methods for high availability:
