Platform migration vi storage replication?

We have a 10.2.0.4 database running on HPUX platform which uses EMC for it's storage. We want to migrate the database to an AIX server. Is it possible to just clone the luns where the datafiles live using the EMC utilities and then bring up a database on the AIX server since both platform use big endian for the files?
Thanks.

Thanks.Sounds plausible. What does it cost to actually test it? If you clone the luns, the live, current database is not going to care about what you do with the clones. And whether it works or not, you'll know the answer first hand instead of taking as gospel something you 'read on the internet'.
It must be true, I read it on the internet. They can't put anything on the internet that isn't true.
Where did you read that?
On the internet.

  • Platform Migration Clarification

    Greetings,
We are doing a platform migration of an E-Business R12.1.1 environment. We originally got to R12.1.1 by directly upgrading from 11.5.9.2 back in December, 2009.
Our source platform is: W2003 runs Apache and Forms, and "everything else" is on HPUX PA-RISC. Our target platform is HPUX Itanium. We will not be moving over our W2003 node; rather, the HPUX Itanium will do everything (that's the plan for now).
In following Metalink Note 438086.1, the last notation on Section 1 states: "if you have upgraded the tech stack components to higher versions than those included with the 12.0.4 install media, they will have to be upgraded..."
I would like to clairify what this means. My interpretation is that when we run Section 2, Step 6 "Install the Application Tier Technology Stack" that we are to use the R12.1.1 DVD media. Is this assumption correct?
    Thanks...colin

    Colin,
Your assumption is correct. In addition to that, you will need to consider upgrading to the latest OracleAS 10g and Developer 10g patchset (_if applicable_) as per (Note: 454811.1 - Upgrading to the Latest OracleAS 10g 10.1.3.x Patch Set in Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12) and (Note: 437878.1 - Upgrading Forms and Reports 10g in Oracle Applications Release 12).
You could log a SR to confirm this with Oracle support.
    Thanks,

  • Synchronous Storage Replication Process

    Hi,
I have a question regarding storage replication for synchronous mode. If I describe the process in detail having twin Data Centers called DC-A and DC-B we have:
1- The server in DC-A writes to the DC-A disk.
2-  Before the server in DC-A receives an ACK from the DC-A disk, this data is replicated to the other DC disk, DC-B Disk.
3-  To replicate the data to the other DC we will first ask to the other DC before passing through the DCI “are you ready to receive”?
4-  We will get the approval from DC-B that is ready
5-  Then DC-A will send the data through the DCI to arrive to DC-B.
6-  DC-B disk receives de data and then DC-B disk must send an ACK to DC-A Disk
7-  Once the ACK is received at DC-A disk, DC-A disk will then send the ACK to the server in DC-A which originated the write action.
My question is if step 3 and 4 sometimes are counted and sometimes not. I should counted or not? This decision is important for me because it affects by a factor of 2 the distance between the twin DCs.
Thank you very much for the help.
    Regards,
    J

    Hi,
just to add more information. My doubt comes from the 2 Cisco live sessions about DCI.
On this session it says that we must count 4 times the traffic passing through the DCI in order to know the DCI Distance:
    https://www.ciscolive.com/online/connect/sessionDetail.ww?SESSION_ID=6623&backBtn=true
On this other session it says that we must count only 2 times:
    https://www.ciscolive.com/online/connect/sessionDetail.ww?SESSION_ID=7775&backBtn=true
Who is right then? because the impact is huge.
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    J

  • Can upgrade to R12 with Maintenance Wiz be combined with platform migration

    Hello,
Planning to upgrade our EBS 11i instance to R12. The source and target application servers are different and database server remains same.
    Source Instance
    Apps Server Deatails
    Name : A1
    OS : Linux 32 bit (RHEL 5)
    EBS version: 11.5.10.2
    DB Server Details
    Name: D1
    OS: Linux 64 bit (RHEL5)
    DB version : 11.2.0.2
    Destination Instance
    Apps Server Deatails
Name : A2 ( Please note tha the server has been changed, as the OS is changed from 32 bit to 64bit)
    OS : Linux 64 bit (RHEL 5)
    EBS version: 11.5.10.2
    DB Server Details
Name: D1 (No change in Server)
    OS: Linux 64 bit (RHEL5)
    DB version : 11.2.0.2
How to achieve this upgrade using Maintenance Wizard as the application servers OS will be changed during the upgrade?
Can you refer any document for the same?
I searched the forum but could not find anything related.
In the manual I see it is possible to set the platform when defining nodes, but it this meant/enough to also use this for a platform migration?
    Thanks. Regards, Carlo.
Edited by: Carlo den Otter on May 6, 2013 7:05 AM

Yes you can use Maintenance Wizard to upgrade and move to a different platform. The tool does not care that you are switching platforms. It will perform all the 11i steps on the old platform / server. When you get to the 12.1 portion, Maintenance Wizard will execute the steps on the 12.1 platform. So just define the 12.1 nodes using the new platform os and you should be fine.

  • Cross platform migration from hp unix to sun

    Hi
recently we have done cross platform migration from hp unix to sun (10g R2 RAC +ASM). It was a challenging experience to complete the migration in 8 hours downtime for a database of about 2 TB.
I would like to share the experience , so that it would be hepfull to others and i would learn more new techniques for improvement .
    source environment:
    HP-UX -ITANIUM - 2 node RAC - 10g R2 - Oracle clusterware - ASM - Heavily loaded all the time .
    Destination Env:
    Sun solaris 10 - 2 node RAC - 10g R2 - Oracle Clusterware - ASM
Total Downtime available : 6 hours.
    Steps followed
    1. snapshot backup of source database on a intermediate HP-Unix box. (stage area)
    2. recover the database and start the rman image backup on to disk in stage area.
    3. mount this filesystem locally (Veritas ) on to one of the node in the destination env.
    4. Mount this filesystem as NFS on second node using a cross cable between both of them (we can use interconnect VLAN also here)
    5. Keep applying the archive logs from source env till the downtime .
    5. startup nomount the database , change the datafile names from ASM to RMAN image copy files and mount.
    6. start rman convert statements and pump into the already exisitng ASM nodes with parallel sessions as much as possible (with 35 sets (513 datafiles) we were able to pump 2 TB data in 4.5 Hrs) - only system and undo datafiles need a convert statements (platform migration ) others would need a file system to ASM conversion only.
    7. alter database open resetlogs in the destination environment.
    8. create services manually and start the application.
we were given very less time to decide upon this stategy , By gods grace we were able to complete it .
I got a doubt while we are chalking out this plan .
can we connect to ASM instance remotely and pump data from one ASM to another ASM. It seems it is not possible , just a wild thought.
Let me know if you see any more improvements in this.
    Thanks
    Naveen samala

  • BW platform migration Error - R3ldctl

    Hello,
We are getting an error during our BW platform migration while running SAPINST to perform the export.
We are running BW 3.1 on Oracle 9.2.0.5

    Hello Kirsten,
I got a modified R3ldctl from our development (see link below).
I already sent the link to Brad Dillingham as well.
In the file, you will find the new R3ldctl 640/Oracle for AIX 64-bit:
The zip file includes the necessary dboraslib.o as well.
You should unzip the files and put them into the exe directory.
R3ldctlora has to be renamed to R3ldctl.
But make sure you have a backup of the old R3ldctl.
Short answer: get the latest patch for R3ldctl.

  • Platform Migration During EBS upgrade

    Hi ,
We are planing to upgrade oracle apps from 11.5.10.2 to R12.1.3.
Currently Both oracle apps(11i) and DB(11gR1) are on IBM-AIX 5.3.
also planing for OS migration from AIX 5.3 to Linux x86-64.
So what would be the better option :
    1. Migrate existing apps and db to Linux x86-64, then upgrade Oracle Apps to R12.1.3
    OR
    2. First Upgrade Oracle Apps to R12.1.3 and then do platform migration i.e AIX to Linux.

We also have 10.1.4.3 SSO with AD.
    Our approach is:
    First Phase:
    1) From source(HPUX) take export(expdp) backup of 10g database.
    2) Install 11.2.0.3 database on Target ie,on Linux server.
    3) Import database on target 11g database.
    4) Link 11g(Linux) database with 11i(HPUX) application
    5) Re-Integrate SSO with 11g database.
    Second Phase:
    1)Pre upgrade steps on 11g database(linux)
2)Install file system of EBS 12.1.1 on linux with upgrade.
    3) Upgarde steps
    4) Post upgarde steps.
Is it feasible? Please suggest. Please do not post duplicates -- Upgrade EBS 11i(10.2.0.5) on HPUX to EBS R12(11.2.0.3) on linux

  • Is Sun Storage 7000 Storage replication adapter compatible with 2540 series

We are evaluating VMWare Site Recovery Manager 4.0. Is Sun Storage 7000 Storage replication adapter compatible with 2540 Sun Storage series?

I would say the short answer would be no. The 2540 is a LSI based device, the SRM adapter for that is written by LSI. The 7000
series array is based on OpenSolaris and ZFS, quite a different beast.

  • Campus cluster with storage replication

    Hi all..
we are planning to implement a campus cluster with storage replication over a distance of 4km using remote mirror feature of sun storagetek 6140.
Primary storage ( the one where quorum resides ) and replicated secondary storage will be in separate sites interconnected with dedicated single mode fiber.
The nodes of the cluster will be using primary storage and the data from primary will be replicated to the second storage using remote mirror.
Now in case the primary storage failed completely how the cluster can continue operation with the second storage? what is the procedure ? how does the initial configuration look like?
    Regards..

    Hi,
a high level overview with a list of restrictions can be found here:
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-2971/6n57mi28m?q=TrueCopy&a=view
More details how to set this up can be found at:
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-2971/6n57mi28r?a=view
The basic setup would be to have 2 nodes, 2 storageboxes, TrueCopy between the 2 boxes but no crosscabling. The HAStoragePlus resource being part of a service resource group would use a device that had been "cldevice replicate"ed by the administrator. so that the "same" device could be used on both nodes.
I am not sure how a failover is triggered if the primary storage box failed. But due to the "replication" mentioned above, SC knows how to reconfigure the replication in the case of a failover.
Unfortunately, due to lack of HDS storage in my own lab, I was not able to test this setup; so this is all theory.
    Regards
    Hartmut
PS: Keep in mind, that the only replication technology integrated into SC today is HDS TrueCopy. If you're thinking of doing manual failovers anyway, you could have a look at the Sun Cluster Geographic Edition which is more a disaster recovery like configuration that combines 2 or more clusters and is able to failover resource groups including replication; this product already supports more replication technologies and will even more in the future. Have a look at http://docsview.sfbay.sun.com/app/docs/coll/1191.3

  • L3 Link for Storage Replication

    Hi,
Has anyone experienced on provisioning L3 MPLS link for Storage Replication.  I have two DC at different location and EMC Storage.
we will have 2 MPLS L3 Link between two DCs to replicate the data.  We have 4 RPA at each side and 2 MPLS Link.  but dont have idea how to connect all these things.  I have Nexus 7k in new DC and 6509 in old DC.
If anyone has any idea how to provisioned this link, it would great help to me.

    Hi Micky,
Such table doesn´t exist in standard SAP! You should try to accomplish this in a view!

  • Long Distance Storage Replication

Looking for some data on storage replication between data centers connected via VPN. VPN is based on 7206VXR/IOS w/ DS-3 access. DS3 endpoints are the same Tier1 provider. Distance is Miami to/from Chicago.
Replication fo 20Gb SQL Database (initially) in a 12 hour window. Current SQL copy takes roughly 16 hours.
EMC Clarion array replication is next on the plate.

There are many options available to you and would depend on the budget and the infrastructure you already have in place. All of the storage products could provide you with FCIP links. The FCIP link/tunnel would flow inside and as data in the VPN tunnel
There are modules for the 7200's that act as B-port and would encapsulate the data across a FCIP link and so the the endpoints would be the 7200's. Then the SN5428 can provide the same FCIP connectivity and then the FC ports from the storage could plug directly into the 5428.
What may be the best option is the MDS with compression and write acceleration. Depending on the encapsulation of the DS3, the MTU can run from 1500 to 4400. So, the MDS could sit off of a gigabit link from the 7200's and make that MTU on the MDS's gigabit interface the MTU of the (MTU of the DS3-the overhead encapsulation of the VPN). Then you could apply compression and/or write acceleration to give you the FCIP link from MDS to MDS and provide the speed that you desire.
