Platinum QoS profile limits data traffic
Hello,
I have WLC which controls a WLAN that hosts data traffic and VoIP traffic.
I have enabled Platinum QoS profile and the throughput of the WLAN decreases to approximately 10 Mbps (With bronze QoS profile throughput was like 22~25 Mbps).
I would like to know how does the QoS profile limit the throughput of the WLAN? WLC gives a warning that data traffic will be affected but that doesn't tell much about the actual mechanism of traffic limiting.
I used iperf software sending UDP data @ 500 Mbps to measure the throughput.

QoS binding limited to IP address range and SSID on WLAN
Our VLAN id 2 is used only by a WLAN SSID
Defining a QoS profile as using VLAN id 2 did not work. No upper rate limitation worked
Only using the IP address range of the VLAN or the SSID appeared to work.
It does not appear consistent, when a VLAN id can be specified on a WLAN in the Wireless Basic Setting Table
It is also inconsistent, that the proper SSIDs are not listed in the drop down box on the
Add / Edit Profile Binding Configuration page. They only appear as AP-1, AP-2 etc.Has this been fixed under firmware 1.0.4.17? I cannot get this work with any type of Traffic Selector (IP/MAC/VLAN/DSCP/SSID).
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks! -
Upstream bandwidth QoS profile 5508 WLC
Hello,
Is it possible, through a QoS profile, to control how much bandwidth a user gets to use for upstream traffic? I can easily set limits for downstream traffic, via the per user bandwidth contracts, but it is not obvious to me on how to control upstream traffic.
Any and all info is appreciated!
Thanksupstream traffic needs to be defined at L3, via your QoS settings. As you've said, the profile on the WLC is downstream only.

Steve

Is anyone running Wireless QoS using 5508's? I have been reading lots of info, but still struggle with some of this. I have not dealt with QoS much on a wired network and never on a wireless network. I know there has to be a shared comfiguration between both. The whole point of QoS is end to end. When looking into the Wireless QoS profiles in the WLC, the Gold profile, which is stated for video doesnt even have any values configured? So even selecting this profile for the WLAN SSID, the values not being configured, tell me its not benifitting me at all.
Now can someone give me "slimmed" down info on ToS, CoS, and DSCP?
Another question I have is does my application need these values configured? In my video encoder there is an area for ToS and the value is 0, do I need to configure this for the traffic to be noticed on the network?Steven
There is a lot to QOS on the network. There are three main points to keep in mind when working on QOS.
COS = Layer 2 packet markings
DSCP = Layer 3 packet markings
1. Marking
2. Trusting
3. Queuing
I suggest doing the research on what's important to your business and marking the more important traffic higher then the not so important traffic. If you are using Cisco Switches, I suggest using 4 classes because you only get 4 queues with most Cisco switches.
You need to trust DSCP for your Controller based AP's. You should trust DSCP on all of your switch uplinks.
Egress Queuing is very important. You need to allocate bandwidth to the queues on your ports. This assures that each queue gets the bandwidth that you want it to have.
Wireless QOS is a bit different. The client needs to set the DSCP value, then the controller needs to allow the DSCP value to be set to a specific level. You need to set the "platinum" profile to a 802.1p Tag to 6, this will allow packets to be marked with a COS value of 5 (I don't understand why Cisco did it this way, but it's how it is). Then you need to apply Platinum to your voice vlan.
Here is a link to my forum where I have posted a lot more regarding QOS. I hope this helps.

Apply QoS profile using RADIUS attributes
Hi all,
Anyone delved into the use of RADIUS attributes to apply QoS values (DSCP/802.1p) to wireless users via a WLC?
With the emergence of ISE and the concept of a shared SSID for several user types I may want to apply QoS profiles by user rather than SSID.
Do you need to apply the maximum value to the SSID for the attribute-derived value to work?
Can non-WMM client traffic be marked using this approach?
Plenty to think about here...
Any discussion welcome!
Cheers
RobYo can apply QoS RADIUS override.
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6307/products_tech_note09186a0080870334.shtml
Yes it would be best to apply the wlan max qos value to the level that you intend to use with the radius override. for example if you want to apply platinum qos for voice clients on the ssid, i would map the wlan to platinum qos.
i am not sure on the next question. I think u can assign a DSCP/802.1p to a non WMM clients but I dont think the non wmm clients will benefit from it as they will not tag their traffic and hence the AP and subsequently the wired network will treat it as best effort (untagged).

ODI Data Profiling and Data Quality
Hi experts,
Searching about ODI features for data profiling and data quality I found (I think) many ... extensions? for the product, that confuse me. Cause I think there are at least three diferents ways to do data profiling and data quality:
In first place, I found that ODI has out of the box features for data profiling and data quality, but, acording to the paper, this features are too limited.
The second way I found was the product Oracle Data Profiling and Oracle Data Quality for Oracle Data Integrator 11gR1 (11.1.1.3.0) that is in the download page of ODI. Acording to the page, this product extends the existing inline Data Quality and Data profiling features of ODI.
Finally, the third way is Oracle Enterprise Data Quality that is another product that can be integrated to ODI.
I dont know if I understood good my alternatives. But, in fact, I need a general explanation of what ODI offer to do Data Quality and Data profiling. Can you help me to understand this?
Very thanks in advance.Hi after 11.1.1.3 version of ODI release, oracle no longer supports ODP/ODQ which is a trillium software product and this not owned by oracle. Oracle is recommending the usage OEDQ for quality purposes. It's better if you could spend time on OEDQ rather than trying to learn and implement ODP/ODQ in ODI

WLC QoS Profiles not applying egress
In regards to QoS profiles on the WLC. I have applied a profile to a newly created WLAN and set the Per User Bandwidth to 512k and it seems to be kicking in on the ingress only, does anyone know if this is supposed to work ingress AND egress or is it just designed to work one way? I have a 4402-25 with Cisco 3500 AP's and am running the 7.0.98 code.
If it is designed to work one way only is there a different way to apply it ingress and egress simultanenously off the WLC?Hello,
WLC QoS bandwidth policies do in fact only apply in the downstream direction. Clients will still be able to upload at an unlimited speed.
You will need to look at another solution if you need to limit upload speeds -- one example would be user-based rate limiting on the 6500 platform:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps5718/ps708/prod_white_paper0900aecd803e5017.html
There are likely other solutions available as well.

RVL200 IPSEC: Channel all or some data traffic through tunnel, possible?
Is it at all possible to channel all/some data traffic through an established ipsec tunneled connection using the RVL200?
I have successfully established an ipsec connection through RVL200 and RV042 routers and are able to connect to servers/computers behind it.
Now I want to channel all or some traffic through the ipsec-tunnel for computers that reside on 192.168.1.0 subnet of RVL200 network.
Main office - RV042 router - 10.200.62.1
Remote office - RVL200 router - 192.168.1.1
I am trying to use the Advanced Routing option to add static routes but I am not 100% sure if I am configuring the routes correctly.
To give an example of routing DNS requests for HOTMAIL.COM [65.55.72.183]:
Destination IP - 65.55.0.0
SM - 255.255.0.0
GW - 10.200.62.1
Hop - 1
Interface - LAN
For some reason this does not appear to work. I have also tried using the interface setting of WAN and tested - this also does not work.
Can this be done? If anyone has tried doing this I would be very interested in finding out how to configure this.
Cheers.
MPFor some reason the DNS IP settings does not seem to work.
I started looking at the option of using the Quick VPN client which appears to have a setting for enabling Remote DNS.
I have setup a test user on both the RV042 and RVL200 to test if I can overcome the Split DNS limitation. But for some reason I can't connect to either of the two routers. I have installed the client on a 64bit Windows 7 client machine which has the Windows Firewall service enabled.
I keep getting the below error, there is no conflict with the IP address scheme and the password is correct.
Could it be this new client does not support the older Linksys badged RV0xx routers? Because Split DNS is only supported on v3 hardware. The firmware on my RVL200 is v1.1.12 .1.
What should I check to enable connectivity using this client? Or is because it does not support 64bit WIndows 7? I have even exported the certificates for both Admin and User into the C:\Program Files (x86)\Cisco Small Business\QuickVPN Client folder. -
APs and switch voice vlans also supporting data traffic
hi, i hv a wireless IP phone,AP, 2960 switch1 and another 2960 switch2. My question is, if i configured voice vlans on th access ports on th switch1 (for voice and data), this switch1 is connected to the AP and the IP phone gets connected to the AP somehow (please guide),will this configuration work or i m missing alot of info.?
thx srahn, 1 more question, if i configured a single voice vlan on my switch1 (supporting data and voice)like this..
voice vlan on switch1:
mls qos
interface fastethernet 0/1
description connection to Accesspoint1
mls qos trust cos
switchport mode trunk
switchport mode encapsulation dot1q
switchport voice vlan 10
switchport priority extend trust
interface fastethernet 0/0
description connection to switch2 for inter-vlan
switchport mode trunk
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
switchport trunk native vlan 2
Then a native vlan on AP like this ...
interface fastethernet 0.2
encapsulation dot1q 2 native
interface dot11radio 0.2
encapsulation dot1q 2 native
Voices (vlan 10) vlan on AP like this ...
interface dot11radio 0
ssid voices
vlan 10
authentication open
interface fastethernet 0.10
encapsulation dot1Q 10
bridge-group 10
interface dot11radio 0.10
encapsulation dot1Q 10
bridge-group 10
Looking at this configuration examaple, how do i support voice and data traffic on th vlans on the AP.... Do i also have to configure a native vlan (for data) on switch1? b'se i intend to have 1 vlan tht supports both voice and data.
**** Will the configuration above work for my network? -
Oracle Data Profiling and Data Quality
Hi,
How to create metabase for Oracle Data Profiling and Data Quality. Is metabase and repository are same.Hi,
You can create a metabase in the Metabase Manager:
- Expand Control Admin
- Click on Metabases
- in the Metabases window, right-click on the white area and select Add...
- go through the wizard to create your metabase
This is documented in the ODQ/ODP tutorial (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/oracle-data-quality/pdf/oracledq_tutorial.pdf) and in the Documentation (in Metabase Manager or Oracle Data Quality go to Help and then Manuals).
Thanks,

How to handle large library, limited data plan
I've been using Itunes Match for about six months now, and I'm having problems...
I live rurally and so I use an AT&T hotspot with a 10 gig/month data plan for my phone, ipad, and desktop mac. My wireless connection speed is pretty good.
I have about 15000 tracks in my Itunes library, most not purchased through Itunes.
When I signed up for Match and went through the initial process, it took about 24 hours and used up about six gig, which caused a significant overage in my data plan. Consequently, I just use Match on my Mac and decided not to use it on my other devices because of the data limitations. My motivation to use it currently is as a back up for my music. I connect my phone to my mac manually to transfer some of my music to my phone.
I figured that the data overuse problem was a one time deal if I didn't use my other devices.
But recently, when I purchase a song from emusic or Amazon, the icloud processing image pops up after the download purchase is complete. Itunes will then start the process of sending data to Amazon, which was still going at 4 hours yesterday when I manually stopped it as I saw my data plan being used up. It seemed to restart the process of sending periodically and never got to the analyzing or returning data stages.
Now my recently purchased music shows up with both the Icloud processing symbol and a faded download icloud icon, one for each separate track. I can play the "processing" track, but Itunes won't allow me to add it to a playlist. Further, if I'm online with my hotspot, sometimes the regular Itunes Icon is visible, but at other times the icon with the thunderbold through it. I'm guessing this means it's streaming with the first icon, playing from my harddrive with the second.
So a couple of questions, and sorry for the length, I'm a first-time support user
1) Does it make sense to use Match with such a large library, and limited data plan?
2) "Where" is the music I've purchased - on my computer or in the cloud?
3) Should it take all day to send data to itunes, when the only updates to my library are songs I've deleted and a handful of new albums I purchased.
4) Am I using up my data plan when the regular Icloud Icon appears and I'm online? Is there a way to manually play from the hardrive to reduce use of my data plan? I turned off Match once and payed with a half-day sending and receiving session when I turned it back on.
4) Will I lose music if I unsubscribe from Match?
Thanks to anybody who has the inclination to respond to any of these questions! This datasource sends After images in delta loads which is compatible with loading to a Std DSO only. You cannot load from this datasource directly to a cube.
You can check with business the number of years they would need history. If they need for 5 years, you could delete data older than that or Archive.
For GL, there would not be any changes to years that are closed for posting. There may be adjustments carried out for the previous fiscal year. I guess there would not be any changes to years prior to that. So archiving old data should not affect delta. -
What phones can you still get the $15/month for limited data plan?
I am aware Verizon has switched over to the "Share Everything" plan. I think it's obsurd to charge $50 a month for only 1GB of data to share with the whole family. Anybody who pays for that, must be insane. But, that's not what I'm asking about. I have talked to my local Verizon store and they said I can keep my plan if I just want to upgrade my phone. There are 3 other phones on my plan, by the way. I have a basic Samsung Rogue that has unlimited texting and a shared amount of minutes for phone calls. I asked about changing my phone to a smart phone and they said I could have the $45/month plan, or whatever it was, for unlimited everything. That was just a little bit more than what I was willing to spend. I considered switching carriers and decided against it, as Verizon seems to have the best coverage. Then, it occured to me that they used to offer a limited data plan that my sister had before she got unlimited. I thought it was about $15 on top of what I already pay, but I'm not for sure. So, since I am still on my old plan, would it be possible to add the limited data package to my plan?? Also, if that is possible, what phones have an option to have a data plan? Can it just be any smart phone? I would prefer a touch screen phone.
All answers are appreciated. Thank you!!Yes it is true. when you add a line you are required to change to the share everything plan.
<Moderator comment. This information is incorrect. Current customer are not required to switch to the Share Everything Plan if the customer deals with a corporate store or VZW directly through Customer Service.<

I have allowed my iTunes Match subscription to expire, because of a limited data plan so can't listen to music outside my house. My music files were removed from my computer and are inaccessible without renewing the subscription. How do I get them back?
Hi,
I presume you deleted the original files as match would not have done so. Do you have a back up. If so, restore your music from that. If not, your will have lost all your music as this needed to be on your hard drive when you unsubscribed.

Very high data traffic generated by Nokia Messagin...
Is anyone else seeing really high data use on their phone log following last week's Messaging outage?
Up until last week's outage, the data traffic generated by Messaging was about 5kb an hour (with no new emails sent or received). Presumably this small amount of data traffic results from the Nokia email server "pinging" the phone periodically to keep the connection open.
But after last week's outage and issues with passwords being requested etc etc, I saw that the data traffic generated by the Messaging app has gone through the roof - about 400 - 500kb an hour! Again, this is with no new emails sent or received - so theoretically is just the server pinging the phone to keep the idle connection open!
I reinstalled Nokia Messaging on my phone (E61i) - no difference - the data generated by the Messaging app is still 400 - 500 kb an hour (it stops when I take Messaging offline).
I have friends roaming in Ireland and their phone has had the same problem - the data traffic generated by their Messaging app is sky high and they have had to shut it down because of the high cost of data whilst roaming.
I also newly installed Messaging on another phone (N95) that I have, using a brand new email account and a new T-mobile SIM card, and guess what - that phone also has sky high data traffic due to Messaging.
What is going on?? Can someone at Nokia Messaging please sort this out? Anyone roaming with Nokia Messaging enabled is facing hugh data charges from their network. The data traffic occurs in phones which are on a home network (mine in the UK) and on a roaming network (my friends traveling in Ireland). Interestingly, I've now checked with another friend who is roaming in Italy and they also use Messaging but haven't seen any high packet data issues with their phone.
The data traffic shows up in the Packet Log, as well as on the actual T-Mobile network account (plus the charges for the data!) Accessing a T-Mobile UK account online shows all packet data use - in this case, 120-150 kb every 15 minutes, whereas before last week it was 1-2kb every 15 minutes.
When I "Go Offline" with Nokia Messaging, the high data traffic stops, both on the Packet Log and network account, so I am 100% certain this is due to Messaging. -
