Play a single Album/CD?

I know there must be an easy/simple answer...
but - how do i play a single album - in album order - just as though i'd put the CD in the HiFi - as we used too?
I simply want to play one album and then for iTunes to stop!
thanks

In the old analog days you had to turn on your stereo and turntable, go to the record shelf and pull out the album and place it on the turntable, move the tonearm and flip the record over at the end of side one. Quite a few steps.
Now you have to turn on your computer and speaker system and open iTunes. Instead of going to th record shelf use the Browse fature to find your album. Click on it and it will be the only thing showing in your library. Hit Play and only that album will play. If repeat (arrows in a circle in the bottom left) is off (black) the play will stop at the end of the album.
Try this: with only that album showing highlight all the tracks, right click and choose Add To Party Shuffle. The album will play exactly the way it shows up in the library and when it finishes Party Shuffle will continue playing (checked songs) from what ever playlist is selected. You can delete what's next in party Shuffle and add more albums by the same method.

    Hey everyone in Apple world!
I figured out how to fix the flashing yellow screen problem that I've been having on my MBP!  Yessssss!!!
I found this super handy website with the golden answer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
I followed the instructions on this page and here's what I did:
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
I went through the 6 steps above twice, just to make sure I got rid of whatever stuff was holding up my bootup process.  Since I did that, my MBP boots up just like normal.  No flashing yellow screen anymore!!
(Note that I arrived at this solution when I first saw this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570?viewlocale=en_US)
Let me know if this works for you!

  • Playing a single album....and that's it!

Occaisionally, I want to play a single album and not have to listen to the songs that follow it in the music library. I want to have the experience of walking over to my old record collection, pulling down John Coltrane's A Love Supreme, putting it on the turntable and listening to it. Then if I want to listen to something else, I'll go pick something else. OK...I am obviously ignoring the annoying part about turning the record over half way through but let's just forget about that.
Is there a way I can listen to a single album in its entirety and then have iTunes stop playing? If there isn't, Apple should come up with a way. Help me. I'm old fashioned.

Show the Browser (View menu -> Show Browser). You will be able to select an album there, and when you play it, iTunes will play just those tracks and then stop.

  • Playing a single album in iTunes

Is there a way to have iTunes stop playing after an album playlist (.m3u file) is done?
Right now when I click on an .m3u the album starts playing in the iTunes library, and when the album ends iTunes continues on to the next song in the Library. I can understand that when you drag-and-drop an album's files in the Library there is no differentiation between those and the rest of Library's files. But I would think that specifying a single album with the .m3u would let iTunes know that it should play only those files. Sometimes I just want to load an album, listen to it and be on my merry way.
I realize that I could simply put the album in its own iTunes playlist or hit the stop button, but I'm just curious whether this is possible in iTunes. I'm also very lazy.
    15" MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

In iTunes, select Library - Music.
At the top right of iTunes, select one of the first two buttons (List or Grouped with artwork) above View.
Go to menu View -> Show browser.
Use the top 3 boxes above the music to select a genre, artist, album or combination thereof.
To make multiple selections, press the Apple/Command key while clicking.
Press play. The only thing to be played will be the music shown below.

  • Stupid Me, I can't figure out how to play a single album

I listen to my iPod via the app on my iPhone4. I can't, for the life of me, figure out how to shuffle play automatically just the songs on one album. I'll be happy to just play the songs on a single album sequentially.
    Thanks.

You say shuffle then say sequential so not sure which you want.
If you are stuck on shuffle it is because you tapped shuffle at some point which turned the option on.
Go play any song. When playing and you see the album art tap center of screen on the art and another set of controls will come down.
That set of controls has Genius, Shuffle, Repeat, Progress etc to let you toggle on and off things such as Shuffle (blue is on, white is off).
There is also a link to the iPhone manual in your Safari bookmarks or you can Google search "iPhone Manual" to find the PDF via computer to read up on the controls of the iPod player.

  • Playing a single album on repeat in iTunes 9

Have been encountering one major issue with iTunes 9 so far, regarding playback of a single album from an artist, of which you own many albums.
With the new Browse window on the left, showing Artists is nice, the merged album + track listing on the right does not allow you to select a single album and listen to only it on repeat. The existing action will cycle through all songs by an artist, and not a specific album you wish to listen to.
This is very frustrating, and a very questionable change from previous versions, as well a every other competitor's music playback applications.
In the previous versions i had removed the Genre browser from browse via some trick i read somewhere. Is there a secret trick to getting the album browse pane back?
It may deserve a separate topic, but when changing views from List, Grid, and Cover flow, it does not remember what artist you had browsed to when returning to List. Switching to cover flow and Grid work, but upon returning it focuses on the album and not the artist.

retracting this, read some other nonrelated posts and fixed the problem.

  • Playing a single album on shuffle

Can someone let me know how I can play one album on shuffle in itunes when I have multiple albums by that artist? I know this is probably really simple but all I seem to be able to do is shuffle through that artist's entire catalogue...

CMD/B will bring up the Browser, as will View/Column Browser/Show Column Browser. Once the Browser is open clicking View/Column Browser again will give you more options such as browser columns across the top or down the left side, and which items you can browse through (genre, artist, album, composers and groupings)
After using this a few times you will see this is an easy way to navigate your library and it's not as difficult as it sounds.
Or, you highlight all songs, right click and choose Uncheck Selections, then highlight only the songs in the album, right click and choose Check Selection. Then make sure Shuffle is on and click Play.
The only way to play anything with only ONE click is to click the play button. You can select a song with one click, but then you would have to make a second click to play it.
Selecting and de-selecting songs will always take a few mouse clicks. Some methods take less than others. And then there are keyboard shortcuts...

  • How do I delete duplicate songs, but keep a link in their original albums to the single copy of the song left, so it will play in each album in sequence as if it were still there?

    Greetings!
After importing my 300 or so CDs into iTunes, I found I have tons of duplicate songs.
Example: I have a song that came in a original album, then in again in a "Greatest Hits" album, then again in a "Hits of the 80's" album, and again in a soundtrack album. I have now have 4 copies of the exact same song.
How do I delete duplicate songs, but keep a link in their original albums back to the single copy of the song left, so it will play in each album in sequence as if it were still there?
I don't think this currently exists, but as my library keeps growing the duplicates keep growing.  It would be nice if Apple sees this and adds a way to link songs to multiple albums.
I don't want to create a custom playlist for every album that has a duplicate song or two (I'd have dozens of playlists) - thought about fixing it that way but not really practical.

To my knowledge, there is no way of doing what you want. The only workaround is to create playlists for the other albums containing the track, but that isn't practical for most people.

  • Complete my Album doesn't play the single download as a whole album

I had purchaser the single of the Payphone from iTunes and when the album was released I did a "Complete my Album" purchase of the same Album. iTunes won't play the single when palying the album. It is not shown as being in the album at all, even the track number is omited. How can I get that single to play in order when selecting the Album without creating a special playlist just for this album. I thought when you did a "Complee my album"  it would do just that not omit it from the album and keep the single as a seperate track. Any Ideas or did I do it wrong?

Often, a single released in advance of an album will not have the album title associated with it.  Instead it is listed as a single.  When purchasing the rest of the album, the single is not downloaded again.  To fix it, select the single and type command+I to open the song's information window.  Select the "Info" tab and edit the album name to reflect the actual album title and enter the correct  track number and total number of tracks.  Click "OK" at the bottom right of the window to save your changes.

  • Mac 10.8.5 itunes 11.1.1 Sometimes when I drag an album to my desktop the songs fallout of the album leaving me with individual songs not a single album that I  can click to play the whole album.

Sometimes when I drag an album to my desktop the songs fallout of the album, why? This leaves me with individual songs not a single album icon to click? Can you help me get a consistent single button that I  can click to play a whole album?  [email protected]   mac OS 10.8.5 iTunes OS 11.1.1

I'm confused. Are you trying to play the album FROM your desktop?

  • Can you play a whole album(CD) or only single songs?

Is it possible to play a whole album(CD)that you have loaded into your iPod? In other words constant playing of the songs of that artist until it's over. So far I only see capability to play either constant shuffling of your songs or one song at a time as you pick one each time.
    Thanks

Ya like Chris said, you probably are using the center button which selects (and will open the next level), not plays. So when you go to an album name on the iPod, if you hit play while on that name it will begin to play the album. If you instead hit the center select button you are selecting that album and opening it to the next level. When you hit it again, since you are now on a song, so selecting it plays it since there isn't a lower level to go to. This makes it seem like you have to double click to start an album.

  • HT204406 Match skips uploaded tracks of an album, although it plays all single tracks if selected one by one

I have been uploading many digitized vinyl-albums to match. All of the songs stream perfectly well. But: Only one song at a time. The next track (and the rest of the album) will be skipped by match. And match simply plays the next album in the list, that is available in the itunes-store.
Downloading the songs helps. But this is not quite the reason why I joined match...

    Q1: See http://samsoft.org.uk/iTunes/grouping.asp
Q2: Not sure why that might have happened. Select one too many tracks while making an edit? Windows Media Player?
Q3: Turn off *View > Column Browser > Use Album Artist*. I've never understood why anyone would want all individual combinations of artists & guests listed separately in the browser instead of just the album artists.
Q4: That's up to Apple - send feedback if you like. Select tracks & use CTRL-I to open Get Info. quickly.

  • Looking for a music app that doesn't stop playing music when album over

Back in the 90s, I had a 5 disc CD player.  When one album was done, it would move to the next album.
With iTunes, one album was done, the next album would start playing.
With iPhone, one abum is done, music stops playing.
I don't understand the logic behind the iPhone music app.  This is especially bad for when I'm driving.
I'm looking for a type of Music app that either:
    1)  Allows me to swipe to next/previous album as well as next/previous track.  (maybe  a swipe up/down command)?
    or
    2)  Allows me to display all songs, but sorted by Artist or album (that way I automatically have one long
    or
    3) Will automatically advance to the next album when the current one is done.

Bob, I have the guide, just didn't think of the playlist angle.  I was looking for  the genre/Siri thing.  But hey, making a playlist worked.
Demo, yes Siri works now that I've made a playlist and say "playlist"  And I'm satisfied with the fix.
But you'd think apple could make playing music more convenient.  I took off all my music and retagged it, leaving all info blank (ie: albums and artists etc) and leaving only genre because it's so difficult to get it play a genre.  I'd pick a genre, start with a  song and it would play only songs from a single album.  I've read of some odd fixes for this and a couple of them worked...sometimes!  (If you stand on one leg and whistle Dixie kind of things)  Ridiculous!
By eliminating all tag info except genre I fixed that issue and can now play by genre.
But as of now Siri still won't play Gospel music by my asking, she still replaces my spoken "Gospel" with her "Christian & Gospel" which like I said doesn't exist.  And correcting Siri doesn't work.  All my music falls into 3 genres, 2 of them Siri handles perfectly, Gospel she messes up.
Bottom line - I shouldn't have had to make a playlist, or played with the tagging of my music.  Apple says you can play your music by genre, and it should be simple to do so.

  • Shuffling songs on a single Album

When I set Settings | Shuffle to "Songs", my iPod Classic does indeed shuffle all the songs for an Artist or Genre. But when I select a specific Album, it always plays all the songs on the album sequentially -- always beginning with the first song.
Tech support and user forums indicate that Shuffle "should" also work for a specific Album, but it fails to do so on every Album I've tried. Again, it does work for Artist, Genre, etc. -- but NOT for a single Album.
Help...? Any suggestions or info would be greatly appreciated!

  • How to disable Soundcheck for a single Album

    Hello,
Soundcheck option in Preferences works pretty good for me, since I shuffle from classical to metal.
But, inside a single album, say, an Opera which is meant to be fully played w/out pauses, I don't want the volume to be leveled throug Pianissimo and Forte tracks.
    Question:
Is there any way to disable Soudcheck for a single Album so iTunes does NOT calculate peek levels on its tracks and does not set gain/loss accordingly?
Or do I need to turn off Soundcheck on the iPod when I want to listen to that particular Album?
I have tried "Volume level" slider but it sets the overall volume gain of the Album and not the relative level between tracks. Also the "pauseless" option (sorry, I use a localized version) is no solution.
    TIA

Is there any way to disable Soudcheck for a single Album
    No.
Or do I need to turn off Soundcheck on the iPod when I want to listen to that particular Album?
    Yes.
