Play back saved project

Hello:
I am a new mac user (12months) I am having a problem with an IMovie project that I saved. I played it several times with no problem, now when I try to play it the clips skip and the audio track is not in sync. It almost appears as if there is not enough memory. I have deleted the trash files and only have IMovie running. Can anyone give me some suggestions to fix this?

Hi l
This can have several different origins.
(Don't start with this)
1. One of the most common one is that the project (icon with a Star on it)
has been moved to an external hard disk that is not : Mac OS Extended - formatted
- but - Mac OS Exchange or DOS or UNIX
- Will not work - You need to copy out Your material to another disk and
re-format it to Mac OS Extended
2. Emptyting the trash in iMovie (not that one on Your desktop) is something I
Don't Do !
At All !!
3. Very low at - free space - on the internal hard disk > 10Gb free
(First I would try)
A. Repair permissions - Apple Disk Util tool
B. Delete iMovie pref files
C. Free up at least 25Gb on the internal disk
To start with.

  • HELP!! No video footage play back in project area New bug?

In middle of a new project, and when I hit play to review clips from the main 'project area', only the audio plays, and there's no video running in the viewer. The red marker runs down as normal, and when you manually slide through the clips they play, but not when you fire up play with the space bar.
However, they DO play when played out of the original clip/content box??? Its just from the project area. Happening on all past projects as well. Won't let me export work in progress either....says there's an error thats found in the user parameter list.
    Driving me mad....please help.

Have you tried rebooting? It sounds like your virtual memory is low.

When making a magic iDVD is there a way to get all of the movies that you save to the project to play back to back automatically?

  • Play back stops 10 seconds in when first playing project

so when i first open a project and press play to hear it itll stop right when it reaches the main part of the song where all the instruments kick in.. itll say "error" or project overload. But when i play it from the beginning again it will play back just fine, every time. ??

Is there any 'official' acknowledgement or justification for this?

Logic's method has always been to free resources when the sequencer is stopped.
VI's are shut down as are any FX plugins, after stopping Logic the CPU meter will eventually drop to zero. This was done early on and was a saving grace for many years as it allowed almost any computer with enough RAM to run Logic and still have a resonably quick machine (say for editing) when the sequencer was not running.
Most, if not all other MIDI/Audio sequencers keep plugins and VI's partially active and as a result can quickly bog down underpowered computers. However, the upside is... when hitting play you don't get a bunch of VI's, FX plugins and disk buffers suddenly going from 0 to 160kph trying to grab a load of data, memory and CPU cycles at the same time.
Personally, in this day of 8-core 3gHz machines Logic could change it's M/O and no one would ever notice.
Just my opinion but the way Logic works has created several other small related problems that sometimes make it appear less than professional.

  • I keep getting an error 2048 everytime I try to play back my Maya file that I saved as a qt movie. I just recently updated qt and this is when the errors would pop up. Before the update I had no problems. How can I fix this?

I updated quicktime a few days ago and now I keep getting error 2048 whenever i try to play back my Maya file after saving it as a qt movie. I had no issues with this before I did the update, after the update I keep getting the error 2048 message. QT will play my earlier Maya movies and other video, it just won't play back my latest work. Help me please, I need this for school.

The 2048 error message usually suggests the files use MPEG-2 format which is not supported natively on Windows via QuickTime without the additional MPEG-2 Playback Component ($20 from Apple).

  • HT2375 Using logic 9: play back of all project files now has problems:  Track volumes are way off - if panning is set to center then you cant hear that track? Even if pan is adjusted tracks are low and or distorted I have looked at core/built in audio

Been having project play back problems for about a month.  Sometimes when I open a project the volume of certain tracks is low and or distorted.  Oddly if a midi track is panned to the center (0) its volume is too low and if I pan right or left the track becomes louder.  Sometimes this doesn't help and if it is an audio track things become distorted.
Although things have been working good for about a year now I think it has something to do with the fact that I have to take the laptop to work and use headphones/built in audio for play back and then take it home and use different audio interface but I can't be sure.  The settings in preferences/audio/devises seem to be correct.
I have not added any plug-ins recently.  I have not downloaded any new programs recently other than a NI tutorial video (shouldn't have any affect) but I am trying to use a new midi controller but again that shouldn't have any affect on play back of existing track?
    Any suggestions?

Thank you for the replies.  Everyone was correct about the jack, interface, and phasing problems.  I have been unplugging my motu audio interface and then using headphones at work.  I have not changed any detailed audio output settings in logic.  When I read that the jack might be a problem I tried switching headphones.  This actually helped.  I am using dre-beats headphones and they seem to be having issues with the mac/jack-(the phasing/panning problems.  I can use these headphones with other devices but not the mac.  I have to use ipod ear buds and the phasing seems fixed.  Hopefully this information is helpful to someone else.
If anyone knows how to correct this issue please let me know its difficult to know what my final mixes are going to sound like and I have had to keep bouncing everything into i-tunes- sync to ipod and then listen in my car radio.

When I download my Final Cut pro project onto a DVD about 3-4 photos are continually repeated throught the presentation. If I play back via the computer this does not happen. It is the same photos repeated. I have taken loop off from view. Any assistance ?

I have two projects one with DVD and photos and the other just photos. The DVD is 20 mins and the photos just 8 mins.
I have tried to burn from the share dropdown menu  ( DVD ) in FCXP and also tried download to media browser then used DVD creator to produce the DVD but the problem exists with both actions. Hi
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.*
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Delete iMovie pref file - or rather start a new user/account - log into this and re-try
    iMovie pref file resides.
    Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
    Macintosh HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
    and is named.
    com.apple.iMovie.plist
    com.apple.iMovie3.plist
    com.apple.iMovie7.plist
    com.apple.iMovie8.plist
and find com.apple.iApps.plist - trash this too
While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this file/s out to desk-top.
    Now restart iMovie.
    • Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Garageband-fix. Start it, Play a note and Close it. Re-try (Corrects an audio problem that hinders iMovie)
    • Screen must be set to Million-colors
    • Turn off Mac and disconnect Mains/Power for 20-30 minutes - will at least re-set FW-port
    • Third party plug-ins that doesn't work OK (not relevant for iMovie’08 or 09)
    • Problems in iPhoto Library can affect iMovie to crash on start-up. Re-build this first then try to re-start iMovie.
    This You do by
    _ close iPhoto
    _ on start up of iPhoto - Keep {cmd and alt-keys down}
_ now select all five options presented
_ WAIT a long long time

From LKN 1935. (in this case = iMovie HD (5), I tried it all, but nothing worked.
Your answer (above) has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that
there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled
iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos)
to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before.

  • Back Up and Saving Projects

HI, I have 2 questions and if anyone have answers, that would be great.
    1. Since 2 persons I know just had their hard disks crashed, I am trying to back up all of my FCP project. I've heard a lot of negative things about Media Manajor so that's out of the frame. According to other threads, the easiest way to back up projects are just drag and drop or copy to another hard disk. Currently I have 3 hard disks in my computer so I'm thinking that's the best and easiest way to go. However, the problem is I saved FCP projects on multiple hard disks. I have multipul Audio Render Files, Capture Scratch, Render Files, etc. Could I just sort them when I drag and drop? means could I move from one folder to another? If I can't (FCP won't be able to find where files are?) Are there other way to do this?
    2. When I have original and back up on separate hard disks, how could I update the back ups? Do I only need to update Project File? Then the work I did on original such as adding background music won't be copied onto the back up hard disk right?
Sorry it's confusing but I'm confused...
    Thanks for reading.

HI, I have 2 questions and if anyone have answers, that would be great.
    1. Since 2 persons I know just had their hard disks crashed, I am trying to back up all of my FCP project.
I strongly recommend you only back up what is necessary-- A) the project file and B) any non-tape-based media.
Tape-based media can be easily recaptured so you don't need to worry about that. The most important thing, above all else, is the project file. So save your project file to your iDisk, your USB drive, email yourself a copy (after zipping it).
Currently I have 3 hard dicks in my computer

  • Drop in's not playing back until 'stop/start'

    Morning all,
Anyone else having problems playing back a drop in on an audio track?
I'm finding that if I cut into an audio tack, record a new section and drop it into the bar or so
that I'm replacing, when I come to play back the result it plays the original track up to the drop-in then silence as it scrolls through the new audio file, and remains silent even when it cuts back to the original file.
If I stop Logic 9 and restart it again on the new section it plays the drop in ok but then silence when it scrolls back into the original audio file, so stop and restart then all is well again.
I tried selecting the (now) three sections and merging them but it won't let me do that either and I am still left with three sections.
This using core audio in Logic 9.0.2 with a Digidesign 192 i/o interface.
    Cheers

    Hi Bee Bee,
This was the first session I have tried using Logic 9 with Core Audio, so I can't say whether it will manifest itself in other projects yet, though I have been having serious crashes when trying to implement the TDM/DTDM option in the audio driver prefs page ( hence trying to go native with the core audio set-up). To finish the session I have reverted back to my old set-up of Dual 2.7 G5, Logic Pro 7 and PT 7.4 which is working very well.
It occurs to me that this problem may be down to the fact that the project in question is automatically saving itself onto the MacPro hard drive which of course also has the system software and application on it, and I seem to remember an old manual recommending that audio files are best written to a separate, dedicated drive. What do you reckon?

  • Final Cut Pro Lagging during play back

when i start a new project FCP runs great but after i start adding more clips and rendering and saving my preview play back is so sluggish to the point that the video stalls and the audio keeps playing for a couple seconds then stops.
i dont know what i did if anything but FCP used to run great all the time. this all just started a couple weeks ago. even short projects if i save it to work on it another day when i get back to it, it runs sluggish. if i skip through the project with the mouse i usually get the beach ball. does anyone know whats going on? all my other programs are running great. my memory status is OK

im editing music videos. they are about 4 minute mp4 files saved on my hard drive. my rendered files & scratch disks are set to save on an external hard drive.
the videos i buy and they are MPEG-4, 640x480, H.264 AAC (saved on my hard drive)
im exporting from FCP, using quicktime conversion, and saving as MPEG-4, 640x480, AAC H.264.
all im doing is placing a logo in the lower right corner through the duration of the video.
sometimes i add 5 or 6 of these 4 minute videos to make a longer music video mix.
the only thing i have connected to my laptop is an external hard drive. no cameras or anything else.
i been doing everything the same for the last 6 months. this lagging just started last week.
also when i want to render my project it takes about 2 hours for a 4 minute video. same thing when i export.
i tried trashing preferences to start over and it still the same sluggish preview play back.
    any ideas?

  • Saving Projects

I plan to produce about 20 DVD projects. They will fill my HD. I want to make a Project, then store it off the computer, then erase it from my computer HD (including the inputs that made it) to have room to start the next.
I have these options for saving Projects.
    (1) External HD (It will fill quickly depending on how much space a Disk Image takes)
    (2) DVD (I do not know how long DVD's last in storage)
    (3) Play the DVD from the computer onto Hi 8 digital tape (the original video and audio was played from the camera into the computer)
These are DVD's of infant Baptism, likely to be viewed 20-30 years from now.
    ==============
Prior to iDVD I shot the Baptism in Hi 8, played the tape to a VHS copy deck (up to 2 hours), did almost no editing, and made VHS tape copies. The original Hi 8 tape I store and give the VHS tapes. It is fast and easy, but the product is not editied and has no "themes".

    15" G4 Powerbook, 1.67, 2 gig RAM, 80 gig HD   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

OK basically you have two different things to consider. The original video footage that you want to preserve and possibly be able to edit later (maybe to add a piece of it to a project detailing the life of someone for example) and then there is the iDVD generated final DVD project, which should be considered a viewing medium only.
Actually I am very much in the same boat as you as I work through a library of old analog Hi8 tapes that I have been importing to iMovie via a Digital8 camcorder. Even with a large external drive, I run out of space and have to clear out previous imports to make room for new ones. So I can not store everything on my hard drive(s) yet (until they get bigger and cheaper). So after importing the analog tape, I do very basic editing (remove errors, shorten overly long scenes, etc.). Once I have an hour's worth of footage ready to go, I then export it back to Digital8 tape as my archive. Tape is cheap and at $2+ dollars a tape, this is short money to preserve my kids baby videos and other family footage. So now I have my new digital master and the old analog is a backup. I then also go to iDVD to create a viewable DVD for the family to be able to pull out and watch, with chapters and everything. Sure beats the old dubbing from Hi8 tape to a VHS tape and watching that!
Now if you want to make a copy of the finished DVD on your hard drive, you can create a disk image which will be the size of a DVD, roughly 4+GB per DVD. Round up to 5GB and you can fit a decent number of these images onto a large external drive. For example, a standard 250GB drive (cheap these days) would, allowing for formatting loss and filling to no more than about 85% of capacity, would hold about 40 DVD images. You can then create additional copies of a DVD from the disk image. But, keep in mind that the DVD is the compressed version and should be considered the viewable version, not the editable version.
If you want to be able to edit in the future, the archive back to digital tape than can be reimported is one way, or with enough hard drive space you can simply keep your iMovie projects saves, but that eat up tons of room (13GB per hour project vs. 5GB for an hour DVD). For now tape is a good way to keep this footage and then when something better comes along that is cheap enough & holds LOTS of gigs, we can migrate our master tapes to that format. But for the short term, that being the next several years, this works out well since you can still purchase new Digital8 camcorders (should ours fail).

  • Video playing back choppy even in Source window

I've been working on a project for a while and wanted to back it up to a hard drive. We have an internal hard drive bay so I shut the computer down, put in a 500GB hard drive, backed up the project, shut the computer down and removed the hard drive.
Now, all of the sudden, my footage is playing back choppy. I probably shouldn't say it's playing back choppy because what happens is I'll take a raw clip, load it into the Source window start it playing and it plays fine for about 8 seconds, then it starts stuttering, the audio drops out completely and then it completely freezes up. It doesn't seem to matter what clip I'm using and all of these clips used to play back fine.
We are using a Matrox RT.X2 card and the footage is on four 500GB hard drives that are in a RAID 5 array, so I have a total of 1.5TB of space. Would defraging the drives make a difference?
I'm not sure why this has just started when nothing was added or taken away from the project.
The computer's specs are as follows:
    Win XP Pro
    2.66Ghz Core2 Quad
    4GB Ram
    GeForce 7600GT
    Matrox RT.X2 Card
300GB SATA HD for Operating System
4x 500GB SATA HDs in RAID 5 array for Footage

According to the Intel Matrix Storage Console (which is the software that monitors and controls the RAID array on this motherboard, an Intel D975XBX2), the raid is working properly and is not being rebuilt.
To check and make sure the software was working properly I shut down the computer, unplugged one of the hard drives in the array and restarted the computer. The monitoring software reported that the array was missing a hard drive.
I have seen before when the array was being rebuilt. It will state this in the monitoring software. But the software is reporting all is well.
So I backed up everything and deleted the RAID array. I recreated the RAID array and was still getting the same problem. To test every time, I have a 900MB file that only takes about 20 seconds to transfer between two single SATA hard drives in the same computer. When I tried copying this to the RAID array it said it was going to take about 30-40 minutes!
I removed my boot drive and put in a spare that we had, formatted it and installed Windows XP, hoping that the problem was in the operating system. After installing the mobo drivers I tried copying the 900MB file and again it was going to take 30-40 minutes.
I deleted the RAID array and just made each of the 4 500GB hard drives a separate drive. I formatted each of them and tried copying the 900MB file to each. Each one of them only took about 20 seconds on their own to copy the file.
SO, I'm assuming that the problem is the RAID controller on the motherboard. The motherboard has an Intel ICH7R/DH SATA RAID controller. I purchased a Rosewill RC-209-EX PCI controller from Newegg.com and I'm really hoping this will fix my problems. I'm having it overnighted (which costs more than the controller itself) so I'll put it in tomorrow.
If anyone has any other suggestions, please let me know.
