"Play Base Layer Only" Is Only RT Choice Not Greyed Out?

Just opened FCE 4 on my G4 eMac and when trying to select "Unlimited RT" find that every option other than "Play Base Layer Only" is unavailable.
I've searched the menus and made new sequences to no avail.
I know I'm going to kick myself, but what am I doing wrong?

As for the old eMac, it is very good and pretty fast even though RT with AIC is unavailable.
I suppose I never noticed the absence because I only used HDV briefly on it in FCE 4 and FCP 5.1.4. Seems to work fine apart from that.

Unlimited RT vs. Play Base Layer Only

I'm cutting on a 2x2.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon MacPro with 32GB of RAM, using Final Cut Pro 6. Sometimes I have the option of Safe RT or Unlimited RT and sometimes when I click on the "RT" panel, I'm only given "Play Base Layer Only" and below that, under "Record To Tape" is "Use Playback Settings" and "Full Quality".
How does setting up my project affect whether Unlimited RT is available? How can I ensure that Unlimited RT will be available? This current project is SD, but I'm still forced to render anytime I make a change.

If you use a natively supported sequence codec (DV, DVCPROHD, XDCAM HD, ProRes etc) then you'll have use of FCP's RT platback engine (you get Unlimited RT) ... but if you use an unsupported one (Animation, Photo JPEG, None etc) then you don't.

RT Tab In Timeline - Everything Grey Except Play Base Layer?

For some reason, which will probably turn out to be glaringly obvious, all the options in the Timeline RT Tab are greyed out except for "Play Base Layer Only".

I had View>Video Out set to FW.
OK once I returned it to Canvas Playback.

Sync only checked songs is greyed-out

iPod shuffle on an iMac. I have Manually Manage Music checked. I am unable to check Sync Only Checked Songs because it is greyed-out. Thus -- no surprise here --- after I sync, ALL of the songs on my iPod play, rather than only the checked songs. How do I enable Sync Only Checked if it is greyed out? Thank you.

I called Applecare and got the answer.

Internal speakers will not play, only audio choice is "digital out".

15 inch MacBook Pro. Internal speakers will not play. Output to headphone plug did work. Now I cannot insert headphones into socket, it seems to be too shallow. There is no red glow as mentioned in other posts. I had the red glow issue on an older MacBook and resolved it by inserting toothpick into socket and triggered switch. I have used command, option, r and p reset. Ideas?

That is what I thought as well. I am not able to check the same headphone jack I was using earlier today, but other 3.5 mil jacks dont fit. I will try again with the same one used earlier.
Would this also cause my internal speakers to not be recognized? I had a issue similar to this with my old macbook and was able to resolve it by flipping a switch in the output socket. Something to try? I would also assume that a bent contact or switch is not something an average joe could fix.

"Dual Layer Break Point" drop down window is greyed out

Hi All,
I have a 6.8 GB project ready to be burned to disc. The Build went fine but when I try to format, I chose Format > Disc Volume > Red Laser > Dual > OTP> Dual Layer Break Point > TRack 1 and then all the 10 chapter choices that I have to choose from are grayed out. I can't make a choice to place my break.
I wouldn't think that selecting automatic would work if DVD Studio Pro has grayed out all the choices. Now, I don't know even if I try using the long method would work.
Even still, I would like to know why this happened. This has never happened before over a 3 year period.
I am using Memorex DVD+R DL discs (worked fine in the past).
Any remedies?

Some background -
There has to be a break point where it crosses over from Layer 0 to Layer 1, if you have no Chapter Markers at all (or a limited number of Markers, none of which fall near the point which is a bit more than half the size of the assets you will get an error that a Layer is the wrong size or all markers will be greyed)
What you do is
1.) Set up markers in the areas where your would guesstimate the Layer Break(s) should be
2.) Build the project (but not format)
3.) Format a Disc (in the dialog that comes up, click on advanced tab, then where it says break point, use the pulldown which will have all valid breakpoint markers dark/black, while non-valid Layer Break Markers will be faded) If no marker is black there is no marker in the right place, regardless of you use automatic or not. You will need to insert more markers, and guesstimate again.
4.) If the layer break(s) are not where you would like them (in other words a place where they may be more noticable) use VTS view to re-order then go back to step 1.
When you do enough DLs, you start getting a sense based on the size of tracks where things should land

I downloaded a .mov file but when I play it I only get stills. How do I run it as a video?

I downloaded a .mov video file from Vimeo and when I try to play it I only get stills, not the video. How do I get Quick Time to play this as a video? Also, if I try to delete the file I cannot do so. It will not move it to the recycle bin. It also won't allow me to change the properties to another type of file for viewing. I can't get rid of it or watch it. Any ideas?

Mountain Lion re-install has migration assistant options greyed out. How do I choose only data I want?

I ran out of space on my Mac Mini so I bought the iFixit kit and added a second drive. This resulted in me putting a 60GB SSD system drive and a faster 7200 RPM 500GB data drive in the mini. I removed the original 500GB drive and placed it in an external enclosure.
After installing Mountain Lion I ran migration assistant. It shows all the data from the external drive, but everything is checked and it will only migrate to my 60GB OS drive. Of course this won't work.
I made a link to /Users to my second internal data drive but migration assistant still shows a -486.34GB of space needed.
So, instead of taking a week to upgrade my App Store purchases and install and configure everything (Mountian Lione Server, Xcode, Microsoft Office, Parallels...) how can I get migration assistant to allow me to just choose specific items to migrate?
As a side note, how can I make Mac OS X Mountain Lion use the second internal drive for User accounts *AND* recognize it properly? My link works but I'm early into this and would rather do it 'right' now then live with frankenmac later.

Well, maybe I posted to the wrong forum...
I went in to speak with a mac genius too. All I got was, "In all the years I've worked on Macs, I've never seen the migration assistant with greyed out options." Ok. I guess I have more experience, I've seen it. They then suggested I run check permissions on the drive and buy Disk Warrior for $100. Sorry guys, the drive is fine. My TM backups are fine. It's not that.
I went ahead and bought a 1 TB drive. Even then, the migration assistant choices were greyed out. I went ahead and created a Fusion drive to take advantage of the SSD (the 1TB is only 5400 RPM). The directions can be found here. I then just ignored the greyed out options and brought *all* the data over to the 1.1TB drive. Everything works fine.
I'm bummed about not getting the apps and O/S pinned to the SSD but I figure if anything is getting used a lot, its where it needs to be.

New iMac/external hard drive - redirected to play, but song info greyed out, so can't edit?

I have got myself a lovely new iMac and can play music on my iTunes through my external hard drive. I have redirected iTunes to do this.The iTunes media folder is correctly showing as my external hard drive, but when I go in to the song info section, the info is greyed out, so I can't amend the info.
I was wanting to do a bit of house-keeping before importing the whole library, but this problem isn't going to allow it.
I'm also worried I've not imported it correctly so future adds to my iTunes won't go to my external hard drive and will go on to the iMac.
Any help would be appreciated....

I noticed that the hard drive is 'you can read only' in the permissions and sharing section - is that the issue?
If I take everything off the h/d and put it on to the mac and then back across to the h/d will that fix. The songs are not 'greyed' out when on the mac's hard drive.

Elements 10 works perfectly. In Elements 12, I cannot invoke "Levels"-- the choices under the 'Levels' icon on top row are greyed out.

My copy of Elements 10 works perfectly. I downloaded Elements 12 recently. THE PROBLEM: Once I transfer a photo from Lightroom 5, I cannot make any choices when I press "LAYERS" on top row. Your photo is probably 16 bits/channel.
In pse 12 go to Image>Mode and click on 8 bits/channel and see if that works.

In Address Book, why are the choices under Debug/List Font Size greyed out?

I would like to change the List Font Size to take advantage of all the real estate on my monitor (so that I don't have to squint), but how do I go about doing that if the large, medium and small choices are greyed out??

Songs bought on iPhone appear in Laptop library...but greyed out and unavailable to be played

I am subscribed to the cloud service. I bought songs on my iPhone and can play them there. On my laptop, they appear greyed out in my library. There is no slash thru the cloud icon...but when I click on the icon to download/play song, the Play option is greyed out.
How do I play a song on my laptop?
Seems the advertising is very misleading: Buy song on any device...pay more money for a service...no longer be able to play it on other devices.

Are you signed into iTunes match? If so, hold option key whilst turning of match. Close iTunes and then reboot laptop. Open iTunes and turn on match, do so. Once process is complete do you have access to the new tracks?

When I'm playing my music on iTunes, it would automatically skips songs, even though they aren't greyed out or it is checked.

When I opened my iTunes today, I tried to listen to my songs, but whenever I clicked enter or double clicked the song, it wouldn't play, instead, it would play a song near it. So I tried my whole playlist and most of the songs aren't working! They're not greyed out, they've just stopped playing. I'm not sure why. I've recently downloaded AVG Tuneup by accident, and I've been getting all these weird messages coming from my computer saying I've got corrupted files, so I uninstalled that program ASAP. And these messages would still pop up! I'm not sure what's happening...

There are a few things that you can do to stops the songs from skipping. What it may be is that the files are not working properly so try converting the song to a different format and test that new song. Since you are using iTunes Match, then you can actually delete the tracks and then download them again. Let me know if you this works out for you.

I would like to import my bookmarks from IE but the 'Import Data from Another Browser' is greyed out and not an available choice.

By following the directions on Firefox to open up the Library tool - import & backup - The drop down choice to 'Import Data from another Browser' this choice is greyed out and unavailable. I do not know how to proceed in order to import my favorites from IE.
