Play Count That Syncs iPod-iTunes

Hey!,Is there a way to have the play count of iTunes sync with the iPod and be able to view on the iPod... and i have a Black 30GB iPod 5th Gen (Video) with version 1.1.1.

Wait, I didn’t understand.
No, you cannot view the playcount with the iPod.
You could set up a smart playlist to show songs with a playcount greater, less than or = to whatever you want but you have to do it in iTunes and you won’t be able to change it on the iPod.

  • Ratings and play counts not synced to iTunes

I just got a 2G iPod nano 2GB. Whenever I add ratings or increase the play count for songs on the iPod and then sync to iTunes, the ratings and play counts are obliterated by whatever iTunes has for its data. Example: I make a 5 star smart playlist in iTunes with Live update, then while listening to iPod I rate some songs with 5 stars. They show up in the playlist on iPod since they have 5 stars, but once I sync with iTunes again, the stars are wiped out and the smart playlist is back to exactly what is was in iTunes.
It seems to me that syncing should take whichever has newer information (iPod or iTunes) and propagate it to the other. I read some topics from others that had this same problem and people have repeatedly stated that Automatic syncing must be enabled and not manually manage music. I don't have room to put all my music on the iPod, but I have enabled automatic syncing with selected playlists. My question is this: does this count as automatic updating for the purposes of ratings and play counts being copied to iTunes when I sync with iPod? Or does automatic sync need to be for the entire library in order for ratings and play counts to be propagated? Thanks!

My question is this: does this count as automatic updating for the purposes of ratings and play counts being copied to iTunes when I sync with iPod?
it should do. green eyes is a second gen nano, i'm syncing selected playlists only, and my play counts and ratings are updating in the smart playlists.
are you playing the songs through completely? i'm noticing that i only get a playcount update if i've completely played the song. (the ratings changes go through regardless of whether or not i've completely played a song on green eyes, though.)

  • IPhone loses play counts when syncing with iTunes

I would like to repeat the question from this thread, which has mistakenly been marked "answered".
When syncing with iTunes, not all play counts are transferred into iTunes. When I turn the iPhone off, it even forgets the complete list of played songs (it is even deleted from iTunes itself).

I have similar problem. Played podcasts becomes UNPLAYED after synch with iTune.

  • Play counts wont sync between iPhone & PC with iTunes Match enabled

How can I get play counts to sync from my iphone 4 to itunes on my PC now that I have enabled itunes match?
I want all my devices to know what music I am into at the moment!
    Things I have tried:
I have updated all of the software to the latest versions (ios6 and itunes 10.7),
I have tried disabling & re-enabling itunes match on my phone and PC several times
I have turned everything possible off and on.

This is a known shortfall with IOS devices.

  • If I convert the songs on my iPhone to 128 kbps, will the play counts still sync with what's on my computer?

If I convert the songs on my iPhone to 128 kbps, will the play counts still sync with what's on my computer? I have a lot of songs on my iPhone which are at the 256 kbps bitrate, and if I take them down to 128 kbps on my iPhone, I'll be able to fit a lot more music on my iPhone. But...I really would like to keep the play counts between my iPhone and my Mac in sync. Will that still happen if I switch, or will there be an issue?

    Anybody?

  • In iTunes (for products that sync with iTunes

plz i had a gifted IPad then i used it for one year so now i losted it  so i can know his serial #In iTunes (for products that sync with iTunes)

You could try logging into your support profile and see if that shows it : https://supportprofile.apple.com/
If not then you might be able to find it via your computer's iTunes - see the last section on this page : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4061

  • Sync manually managed iPod played count etc with multiple iTunes libraries

I have my music and podcasts spread out in different iTunes libraries. So if I sync items, tracks from another library are deleted from my iPod therefore I manually manage my tracks. The downside is when you connect a manual iPod to iTunes your ratings, played date, count don't get synced with the iTunes Library. So I created a simple applescript that syncs tracks on specified playlists on your iPod with matching ones in iTunes. I realise applescripts exist to do this already but I wanted something which required no user input and simply did what would happen if the iPod was in sync mode.
    The applescript:
    tell application "iTunes"
        set iPodName to ""
        set syncPlaylists to {"Music", "Podcasts"}
        repeat with syncPlaylist in syncPlaylists
repeat with i from 1 to count of sources
if the kind of source i is iPod then
set iPodName to name of source i as string
set ipodPlaylistId to (first playlist of source iPodName whose name is syncPlaylist)
                end if
            end repeat
set musicLibraryId to (first playlist whose name is syncPlaylist)
--update every track itunes syncPlaylist with data from ipod syncPlaylist
repeat with ipodPlaylistTracksCounter from 1 to count of tracks of ipodPlaylistId
set ipodTrack to track ipodPlaylistTracksCounter of ipodPlaylistId
set ipodTrackData to {name, artist, album, played date, played count, rating} of ipodTrack
set foundTracksInPlaylist to (every track of musicLibraryId whose ((name is item 1 of ipodTrackData) and (artist is item 2 of ipodTrackData) and (album is item 3 of ipodTrackData)))
                repeat with eachFoundTrackInPlaylist in foundTracksInPlaylist
--use try blocks in case of missing data
                    try
set played date of eachFoundTrackInPlaylist to item 4 of ipodTrackData
                    end try
                    try
set played count of eachFoundTrackInPlaylist to item 5 of ipodTrackData
                    end try
                    try
set rating of eachFoundTrackInPlaylist to item 6 of ipodTrackData
                    end try
                end repeat
            end repeat
        end repeat
    end tell
Mac Mini G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   1 GB RAM, ATI 9200 32MB, Samsung 940BW 19" Widescreen TFT LCD monitor

btw if you don't know how to use applescripts. Open script editor, you'll find it in Applications/Applescript/. Open a new window and copy the code in it and press compile. Save as a script and place in your home folder at ~/Library/iTunes/Scripts, create a Scripts folder if it doesn't exist. Alternatively, save as an application, on opening it will do its magic! Make sure an iPod is mounted in iTunes otherwise an error message will pop up.

  • Is there any way I can update my play count from my iPod to the same iTunes library on my computer that does not have any play counts?

I recently transferred my data (music, apps, etc.) to a new computer via transferring purchases and Home Sharing and only a few songs had play counts. On my older computer, all the songs had at least some documentation of a playcount. Thinking that I could figure it out, I reset the play count for the songs on the new computer. Is there any way I could get the play counts onto the computer w/out them via iPod or Home Sharing. I look forward to hearing a reply. Thank you.

  • HT1386 Play count wont update between iTunes and iPod Nano 7th Gen

I have a iPod nano 7th generation and have the latest version of iTunes on my MacBook Pro... when I play music on my iPod and connect it to my computer, the play count doesn't update on my iTunes... The same can be said for when I play music on my iTunes...the play count wont update on my iPod...  any ideas how to fix this? AK

If you want to make song files from your iTunes library available on your car audio system, and it connects using a USB port, a new iPod nano is a very expensive way to do it.  If that's the only reason for getting the iPod nano, you should return it and get a cheap 8 or 16GB USB flash drive instead, which costs less than $20.  Here's one that barely sticks out of the USB port.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/SanDisk/SDCZ33016G/
You can then leave it connected in the car all the time, except for when you want to update the songs.  An iPod is more fragile (especially screen and battery), and you'll have to always remember to remove it, in case the car overheats or freezes.  It would also be a target for thieves.
For the audio file format, I can't believe any car audio system would ONLY play Window Media files, and not the most common type of audio files, MP3.  Songs purchased from the iTunes Store, and those ripped from music CD (using the default settings), are in AAC format.  It's possible the car system does not play AAC.  So, I would try songs from your iTunes library that are in MP3 format.
You can use iTunes to convert songs from AAC (or any iTunes supported format) to MP3.  So, if MP3 works, and you need details on how to convert audio format using iTunes, please post back.  You cannot convert to WMA format (which is Windows Media audio) using iTunes.

  • How to I get my play counts off my iPod onto my new mac?

I have all the music in my iTunes but before I re-sync I'd like to get my play count file off my ipod and import it into iTunes?
    Anyone help me please?

You should have copied the complete iTunes Library, including the iTunes Library.itl file, which, as far as I know, contains all the Play Counts from the existing (old) iTunes and pasted that into your new computer.
Again, as far as I understand it, the total Play Count is not held on the Classic. If it was, it would not include plays within the iTunes Library. All the iPod does is remember how many plays since the last sync and tell iTunes to increase the Play Count by that number.

  • Track play counts randomly resetting since iTunes 11 update.

    Hi,
Just wondering if anybody knows if Apple are doing anything about this issue?  I've seen another post on the support community that has a work around, but to be honest, I have no interest in doing some complicated work around that ends up losing anything I've downloaded since the last iTunes Libary file backup (or whatever you have to do).  I'm still really struggling to get used to the new iTunes store and overall iTunes layout, however given more time I'm sure I will get used to it (although I'd still rather have the old version back).  This play count issue is a real pain though and it only effects tracks bought from the iTunes store.
Anyway, I'll quit my pathetic moaning now in the hope that someone can offer some sort of light at the end of the tunnel.
    Cheers,
    Wiu

I'm having the same issue. I have an iPod Classic 120gb with 2.0.1 and iTunes 11.0.1 on an iMac running Mountain Lion 10.8.2.

  • Can playlists and play counts be restored in itunes form my time capsule?

My Macbook pro froze today and when and the force quit menu wasn't showing up so I reset my computer and when I opened itunes it was empty, it looked like I had just downloaded it with all the "helpful" notes everywhere. I was able to restore all the music from my time capsule and I'm wondering if anyone knows if playlists, play counts, can be restored because I have about 1000 podcasts about half listened to and now they all show that they haven't be listened to.

Do you mean on your Time Machine backup drive? Or are you actually accessing the backup? In either case you shouldn't be doing that. If you haven't space on your HDD to store the iTunes Library, then at least put it on another external drive.
Since you did not provide any information about what's actually "on my time machine," here's what you would do. The entire iTunes folder should be stored in the /Home/Music/ folder. Within that folder you would have three folders: imm Media, iTunes, and iTunes Playlists.

  • Play counts not updating? - iTunes 11

Just updated to iTunes 11 and track information such as play count, skip count, laste played date, etc. are NOT updating as I listen to songs. I have quite a few smart playlists based around this data and now they aren't updating.
Just me or is this a bug?
    Thanks!

Well, how odd. I woke up my computer to find my iTunes behaving in the same manner...
Well as far as I can tell Up Next is not "playing" well with Crossfade (pun intended)
To put it simply, with iTunes 11, you can have either one or the other. Not both. If you have Crossfade on, your play counts/dates will not be updated. If you don't, they will but you won't have any crossfading.  I theorize that this new unnecessary feature has broke the functionality between Crossfading and the Last Played/Play Count fields.
Of course, what more can you expect from a powerful company like Apple? After all, Micro$oft Windows Media Player's crossfade has been broken for a while. Stupid software doesn't start timing the next song until AFTER the first one is finished, Someone sure as heck dropped the ball on that one. I guess it's too much to ask for everything to work as it should in either Media Player.

  • Can't Sync - iPod & iTune Libraries are Differant

Something happened to my iTunes library. It won't sync with my iPod. I get a warning that the iPod is associated with another library, and since I can only have one library, I will lose the songs on the iPod if I sync with iTunes.
How can I get everything into one library without losing songs on the iPod and the iTunes? Thanks for any suggestions.

1). Connect your iPod to your computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are connected and your iPod is safely in manual mode there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. iTunes will only let you copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads and including iTunes purchased songs and in some cases, videos and games) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
A selection of iPod to iTunes utilities:
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
SharePod Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows
    Floola Mac & Windows
iPodRip Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
Music Rescue Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
4). Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.
5). I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive
