Play count view in iTunes 11.0.1

Is it true that Play Count option only functions in the 'Songs' window now? If so, it's disappointing because I use it a lot and would like to use it in the other view windows such as 'Album' or 'Artist' as well.

It still funtions in the other views, you just can't see it.
And I agree, it's a pain only having it in list view.

  • Sync Play count between iPod & iTunes when manually update selected

    Hello,
I use manual updating on iTunes simply because I have so much music, it wont fit onto my iPod, so I manually select the songs I want on.
I have been reading and find that doing this stops the iPod and iTunes from updating the Play count and Last played. Doesnt this sound a bit daft?
People have played suggestions such as creating certain playlists that are automatically synced with the iPod, but my songs are all in playlists.
Is there any addon or way that you can get the iPod and iTunes to automatically sync that part so it updates? Without turning on automatic syncing?
    Thanks

Playcounts only sync if you are syncing. They don't if you're manually managing your music. Sorry.

  • How do I stop a synced iPad from adding play counts to my iTunes?

I organise my parents' iPad 3 with iTunes, they're playing music on it and their plays are automatically added to my iTunes play count. For several reasons, I don't want this to happen. I can't find any setting to disable it though. Can anyone help?
    OS: Windows 7
    iTunes version: 10.6.3.25
    The new iPad, iOS 5.1.1
    Thanks!

My girfriend and I used to share a desktop. What we had to remind ourselves to do, was to make sure the correct AppleID is being used when we'd each sync. In other words, this was the best way to keep our music seperate.
    Now, for your play counts...
Get on the desktop with your AppleID being used on iTunes. Right-click on each song your parents have 'overplayed' (or just which songs you don't want reflected as your plays)... scroll down on that right-click menu to "Reset Plays". This will set the songs recent play count to zero.
Once you've done this to all the songs necessary, sync your device with your AppleID.
Now, from now on... DO NOT let your parents sync their iPad on your AppleID. Make sure they use their own.
If your parents are anything like mine... but its best to keep our music libraries segregated.

  • Does play count update with itunes match?

When I play a song on computer "A" I would expect the play count in the iCloud to increase as well and be accessible to computer "B".  It does not seem to work this way.  How is Play Count shared amoung authorized computers with iTunes Match?

    Christopher E. wrote:
Do you mean it "has never worked" with iTunes Match? It used to work, when one synchronized the device with a computer, back before Match. As cool as Match is, this is a real step backward. All of my playlists are dependent upon a last-played date to keep the music fresh.
Yes, I meant with iTunes Match.
I agree - this has been a real problem for me as well.

  • ITunes Inaccurate Play Counts

    Hey guys-
I've been having a lot of trouble syncing my music library to my new 128GB iPhone 6. One of the latest problems is that after syncing (normally unsuccessfully), my  device syncs ridiculously high play counts to my iTunes library.
For example, I added a new song to my library on 10/09/14 and only played it once in my car. When I synced my iPhone this morning, the song had 28 plays. I know for a fact that this song only played once in total. About 30 songs have had their play counts dramatically inflated (25-60 plays).
I rely heavily on play counts for smart playlists and ratings. Now I have about 30 songs with play counts higher than some of my favorite songs which were added years ago. I assign ratings based on plays too so suddenly songs I added over the week were now 5 star songs with only 1-5 legitimate plays.
Any idea what is causing this?? It's threatening the integrity of my entire iTunes library.. Please help!!
    MacBook Pro (15-inch Mid 2010), OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)
    iTunes 11.4 (18) (64 bit)
    iPhone 6, 128GB (iOS 8.0.2; 12A405)

I have the same problem like you. iMac with Yosemite and iPhone 6. A song, added 2 months ago has 205 counts. Other songs I have for years ago have only 80 counts. And there are other songs, where the same thing is happening. And its starts mixing up everything at my library -.-
Today I talked to Apple Care at the phone. He never heard of that problem. And talked with a colleague. Result: Nothing. He can not promise, that a future update either of Yosemite (e.g.10.10.1) or iTunes will solve the problem.
He talked about editing the itunes library.xml document. However, I have to do this on my own because Apple doesn't provide this solution. And if that helps: Nobody knows. Since I am not an expert, i can't do that.
Other options: A new library or reseting al counters.
All in all: No solution that helps.
I may start reseting some of the counters that are most crazy, and hope for an effective update. (Sorry for potential english mistakes )

  • Play Counts from iPhone aren't transferring into iTunes?

I own an iPhone 3G and have the latest version of iTunes.
I am a person who is . . . proud of their play counts for certain songs and I am a bit upset that one certain song in my whole library (or, so it looks like it) does not seem to be getting the play counts transferred into iTunes. I know I'm not crazy and I honestly expected the song to jump 50-100 play counts up, but it stayed relatively low.
Just right now, I synced my phone and the play count for a new song (just added yesterday), which I absolutely adore, has a play count of over 50. (I have put it in repeat the whole day. :P)
So, I know something might be wrong; is this possible that certain songs don't transfer their play count onto iTunes after syncing? Is there a way to fix this?
Please feel free to ask questions and ask to clear up anything confusing I've said.
    Thank you!

    Hello,
I'm French (and in France so) and I have same problem since 1 or 2 weeks ! It's very difficult for me because I've a lot of smart playlist based on playcount...
Each day, I have to change playcount manually on iTunes (with scripts) for good working next day.
Like you, I've tried reinstalling and restoring without success. I think this problem appears for me since iOS 8.02 but not sure.
The only difference with you is my iPhone is 6 not 5... so the problem is not the phone but iOS or iTunes...
    I hope a correction soon : iOS 8.1 ?
Macbook Pro, iPhone 6, iOS 8.02, iTunes 11.4
PS : Because english is difficult, I posted on french forum but no answer since 3 days...

  • My iPod Shuffle 4th Generation refuses to sync up the PC plays count

As soon as a new podcast episode arrives in my Podcasts iTunes library, it shows up in that library with a plays count = 0.   When I start up iTunes and update the podcasts, I then copy all new (unplayed) podcasts to a Playlist named "1-UnheardPodcasts", then mark all unplayed podcasts in that playlist as Played, thereby setting the play count on those podcast episodes to 1.   I then copy a bunch of podcasts to my iPod shuffle 4th gen and wander off cackling into the night to listen to those podcasts.  In the fullness of time, I return to my PC, fire up iTunes, plug in my shuffle and see that the shuffle shows the plays count (on the episodes I have listened to) as 2.   I then sync the iPod to iTunes but the plays count in my "1-UnheardPodcasts" playlist and in the podcasts library both stubbornly remain set to 1.   I then have to manually pretend to listen to the podcasts in iTunes again, fast forward to the end of each podcast, let it finish, then the plays counts everywhere are set to 2.  I can then delete the plays count 2 episodes from my "1-UnheardPodcasts" playlist and all is right with the world and I'm ready for new episodes to randomly appear in my podcasts library.
My older first generation shuffles (both of which died and were replaced by the 4th gen shuffle recently) did not have this problem.  Sync from those would always update the plays count on the iTunes application on my PC to match what it showed for the plays count on the shuffle.
What's up with that?  Is there any way to fix this?  It happens whether or not I completely fill up the shuffle.
I also have problems with getting back to where I left off if I stop playing a podcast by pressing the centre button on the iPod face and then try to resume play a few minutes later.  If I shut down the shuffle and restart it, it seems to always resume play from where it left off.
I've got everything turned on in the iPod settings menu except the thing about reserving disk space for Windows files.
I've got what claims to be the latest version (11.0.4) of iTunes running under Windows 7 (64 bit) on a BIOSTAR MB with an AMD phenom II X4 820 2.8 GHz quad core processor with 8 GB of RAM and at least 50 GB of free disk space.
When I click on check for updates with the iPod attached on the iPod settings window, it comes back with "you have the latest version"

If you are loading the shuffle manually, by dragging podcast episodes to the shuffle in iTunes, that is probably why the playcount does not update in your iTunes library, after playing the podcast episode on the shuffle (and then connecting the shuffle).
When you use the manual method to load the shuffle, the iTunes library on the computer and the library on the shuffle are separate.  iTunes does not keep the two libraries "in sync."  Therefore, data such as playcount are not synced back to the computer when you connect the shuffle.
If you set up automatic syncing using the shuffle's Podcasts screen in iTunes, iTunes keeps your iTunes library in sync with the shuffle's library (based on how you set up the shuffle's Podcasts screen).  So data, such as playcount, should sync back to the iTunes library.  In your case, if you maintain a playlist in iTunes with the unheard podcast episodes you want on the shuffle, you can select that playlist on the shuffle's Podcasts screen in iTunes (where it says Include Episodes from Playlists).  iTunes will automatically keep that playlist in sync between your computer and the shuffle.
NOTE:  If you are currently NOT using automatic syncing, and you also have music on the iPod, you will also need to set up the shuffle's Music screen in iTunes.  When you start using automatic syncing, any content on the shuffle that was loaded manually is replaced.
The 1st and 2nd gen shuffles used a different very simple software design, compared to other iPods.  They did not have an automatic syncing mode.  You loaded it manually, but it was linked to only one iTunes library at a time.  Therefore, although you loaded it manually, iTunes does keep data (such as playcount) in sync.  On all other iPods, including the newer shuffles, iTunes only keeps the data in sync if you use automatic syncing.

  • Play Count no longer updated from Ipod

After I updated the software on my Ipod, it no longer updates plays to the play count tally on Itunes when I update the Ipod. Formerly it did this automatically. Now only songs played on my computer go towards the play count tally. What gives?
    HP Pavilion   Windows XP

If you have changed the iPod updating method to Manual, then this is a normal event.
If not (you're still on 'automatic update', or 'update selected playlists'), then I don't have an easy answer.
You can try Resetting Your iPod to correct this problem. It may take several attempts.
If that does not solve the problem, then Restore Your iPod and reload the music back onto the iPod, from your iTunes.

  • Play Count Question

The play count on my ipod is different from the play count on my iTunes. How do I make iTunes sync play count with my iPod.
It always updated the count on my shuffle, but doesnt with my 5th gen

yes i am but i also had manual update on my shuffle and it still updated play count..
so it needs to be on auto update then?

  • ITouch and missing play counts

I've recently noticed that songs played on my iTouch (1.1.2) do not always update the play count field in iTunes (7.5) but do register the last played date.
Has anybody else seen this issue?

Although I never found a formal resolution to this issue I did find a VB script that enables a value to be placed into the Play Count field.

  • Clearing play counts; turning play count off

Is there a way to turn the play count off in iTunes and on the Shuffle iPod? Also is there a way to clear their respective play counts? please no smart counting. I'm not a fan of play counts. I want random!

You can not turn it off but you can certainly hide it in iTunes. When you right click on the headers in iTunes you get a list of all the possible headers you can turn on or off. So one solution is to simply turn off that column in iTunes so you no longer have to see it.
To clear out play counts, Select All on your library, right click and pick "Reset Play Count".
    Cheers,
    Patrick

  • Is it possible to show play counts in Artists or Album view in iTunes 11?

There are some beautiful new changes to iTunes 11, but also some things I really like have been taken away. One of them is being able to see my playcouts as I browse. Not just in the playlist or songs list view.
Does anyone know if there is any way to show play counts in Artists or Album view in iTunes 11?

    typo... sorry
I have 3 product codes that I want to report on - Mold, Repair, and Production.  For Mold and Repair, I want to print out only the top 1 job for each order.  For Production, I want to print all jobs.  I have GH1 to group by ProdCode.  GH2 groups by Orders.  Detail A section has a formula to suppress if ProdCode = Production.  Detail B suppresses if ProdCode is not Production.  I can get the suppresion to work but I don't know how to get the Top 1 to show when Detail A is shown.
Obviously I'm new at Crystal Reports - about 3 weeks.
    Thanks for your help...

  • Is it possible to view information such as play count on Artist view in itunes 11?

is it possible to view information such as play count on Artist view in itunes 11?

There is no column view for the artist tab in iTunes 11. The songs are chunked up by album, no option for list view, let alone column chooser. Also, everything under view > column browser is grayed out.

  • Play count in album view itunes 11?

I was wondering if there was a way to show your play count in album or artist view? Such as if you click to expand your album, where it says the time of the song is there a way to get it to list the play count too?
I use play count a lot and this would be very helpful.
    Thanks!

Sort of works. Albums in a subfolder do not sort correctly with the rest - they show up at the end of the rest, but at least it is better than it was. The problem is that by default the menu bar does not show up and it took a while to figure our how to turn it on.
I think this version may have some advantages once a person gets used to it, but until then.........

  • How do I show plays in Artist View in iTunes 11?

I'm looking for a way to show plays in Artist View in iTunes 11. A dialog box pops up when going to View > View Options,  but nothing about changing what information can be diplayed.
    Anyone know anything about this?
    Thanks!

I do not believe you can. If you want to see plays you need to use The songs View. If you turn on the column browser you can select by Album and in the grid below you should see count. If not then View > View Options and select Plays from the Stats section.
