Play Crysis at 1440x900 on Boot Camp?

I'm playing Crysis on my iMac and it works pretty well--in fact, so well that I'd like to bump the resolution up. 1920x1200 is too much, but it's the only widescreen resolution offered by default other than 1280x768. Does anyone know how I can make it run at 1440x900? The solutions I've been able to find on Google say that I should use a custom resolution in my nVidia control panel, but I'm running it on an ATI HD4850.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Ben

  • Playing iTunes HD Movies in Boot Camp

Is it possible to play HD movies purchase from iTunes in Boot Camp?  I have a Mid-2010 21.5" iMac and when I try to play them on my Windows 8.1 partition with either the ATI drivers from the Boot Camp package for my system or with the latest Catalyst drivers through iTunes 12, it throws an HDCP error stating my monitor must either be built in or support HDCP.  The same movies play fine on this computer using Mac OS X.  Any thoughts on how to resolve?  Thanks in advance.

  • HT1461 Can one use boot camp to play computer games normally only found for PCs?

I have some older computer games, specifically Warhammer 40k rts games, that I woud still like to play and was curious if boot camp would allow me to play those on my mac? Also, if it is possible am I putting my computer at risk in any way? I'd like to play them but not so badly that I would be damaging my mac pro or shortening its lifespan. There dont appear to be any emulators out there currently so I'm checking here to see if anyone knows anything.

Yes. There are several ways to run Windows on the Mac:
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
         1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows
XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  For Boot Camp
4.0 and above you can only use Windows 7 or later. Follow
instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on
installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and
installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the
computer into OS X or Windows.
         2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business,
Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software
virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently
             with OS X.
         3. VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate,
or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that
enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
         4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows
applications without having to install Windows.  The
Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
         5. VirtualBox is an Open Source freeware virtual machine such
as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.
It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM
             Fusion.
Note that VirtualBox, Parallels, and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech Labs- Virtualization Benchmarks, January 2013 | MacTech for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Benchmarks of all of the above except Crossover can be found in Benchmarking Parallels, Fusion, and VirtualBox Against Boot Camp - The Mac Observer. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or later. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • Does boot camp run all .exe files?

Im thinking about downloading boot camp on my mac in order to play a game. Does boot camp only run specified programs? Or will it run anything that a windows computer could?

Boot Camp makes it possible to run Windows, but you still need to buy Windows.

  • Boot Camp/Windows XP crashes when trying to play games

I'm at a complete loss. I've installed Windows XP with Boot Camp and everything starts up fine. All I want to use XP for is some light gameing. I've done this a few times with with different games. I get the same problem every time.
At some point while a game is playing the screen goes black. Some times the screen redraws, most of the time the computer simply turns off. This most recent attempt at XP gaming has come in the last few days. The game (Perfect World) truns off my Mac while I'm still making characters, not even getting to loading the game. Also each of these is after deleting the Windows partition and then creating it again. And is happening again after my hard drive has been replaced.
I have all the current Apple Drivers and I tried using the drivers from ATI for Boot Camp.
Additionally, I was having some issues with shut downs when playing World of Warcraft Mac side. Fearing that it was and overheating problem I took the computer in to and Authorized Repair shop. They kept it for 10 days and couldn't duplicate the problem, even when I had them log into my WoW account and they played for 3 Hours. I'm not sure if they just left it running (which will just time out) or if they actually did anything in WoW to push the system. The shutting down I'm getting on though happen with in 5-10 minutes of starting up on XP, with no prior time spent on Mac (ie. I just walked in from being gone for hours).
The more I do the more I'm getting the feeling and am being advised (by a Windows Tech friend) that there is a hardware problem at the root of all this. (Even though the Repair center couldn't find any problems.) Any thoughts as to weather this might be the issue?
Any thought on how to deal with this are welcome.
    TIA

Well I got Input Remapper running because Speed Fan couldn't find my fans. Now after about 120 minutes on Perfect World I'm running between 135 and 140 F, but not shutting down.
Thanks so much for the help Stefan!
    You're welcome anytime.
I'll be sure to post again if at a later point I have more problems.
Feel free to do so, I (and a whole lot of others) will be here
Though as a side note; Should i be looking into getting hardware fixed? I'm covered under Apple Care for about 3 more weeks. But last time i took it into my repair shop they told me they couldn't find any problems. : /
That is indeed the problem, if they can't find anything to fix, they won't fix.
If you can reproduce the error when in the shop (maybe disableing InputRemapper for that purpose) or if you have other problems (preferably while in OSX) it could be good to have them have a look at your Mac.
Make an appointment with the Shop Genius and go there with some free time at hand.

  • Crysis Warhead 64-bit Won't Work with Windows 7 64-bit Under Boot Camp

Hi. I installed the patch 1.1 for Crysis Warhead which has the 64-bit version of the game which I'm running under Windows 7 64-bit on Boot Camp and I've tried the the compatibility mode (Vista to Vista SP2). I've also updated the ATI drivers as well as the Boot Camp drivers. I'm using the latest Snow Leopard.
When I click on the game's application (64-bit version), it would launch then it goes black with just the mouse cursor (you can move it about) which seems to be in low resolution and I guess it would crash so I would push the button on this late iMac 2009 and Windows would go back to the desktop then shutdown.
Has anyone made Crysis Warhead 64-bit work with Boot Camp Win7 64-bit with this iMac (it has the ATI 4850)? Is this because it's Boot Camp or that it's Windows 64-bit or is it the ATI graphics chip? Thank you in advance. Gbu.

since bootcamp allows windows to run natively, it's not an imac issue, but rather an issue with your windows, so you probably get better answers in a windows forum or the crysis forums.
in any case, installing newer ATI drivers (ati.com) might help, but it's just a wild guess

  • HT1461 can i play a pc cd with the boot camp

I have a macbook air and bout the USB superdrive... im wondering if i can play a PC made game on the macbook or i need to buy the mac version or if i download the boot camp will it work

BootCamp is only an app that enable your Macintosh to restart and launch on Windows. To do this, it creates a PC partition on your hard drive, but you NEED to install Windows on it.
    See this:
Mac Basics: Using Windows on your Mac with Boot Camp
There's another way to have Windows apps on your Mac, like the emulators. Different exist, free or to sold, but you can search on google for these:
    VirtualBox
CrossOver (no need to install Window! but perfectible)
    Parallels
    VMWare Fusion

  • Will I be able to play games OK under boot camp with the 2.66GHz 24" iMac?

I am considering moving to mac but I have a couple of PC games that I would like to continue using. These games are red alert 3, tomb raider anniversary and i would like to get sims 3.
How well will games play on the new 2.66GHz 24" iMac? or would I need a better computer?
Also will the mac version of sims 3 work well on it, or will this work better if i got the windows version and played it using boot camp.
Finally would it be advised I used XP instead of vista or would it still be possible to play these games using vista with boot camp.
    Thanks a lot in advance!
    Ben

If you grabbed one of the current iMacs you'd have very little trouble playing almost any of the games currently on the market and a good many of the ones scheduled to arrive this year.
Boot Camp is really simple and easy to use so if you don't feel like buying the Mac versions of your games you can quite easily run them on Windows via Boot Camp. However, the Mac versions tend to be just as good as the PC versions (I would say at times they're even more stable).
As for XP or Vista, that's really your choice. The last specs I saw put XP as a better gaming OS than Vista, and for the longest time I forsook Vista for a performance build of XP Pro, but now I've actually started using Windows 7 to do some gaming and have found it to be a good competitor for XP.
That being said, if you're getting one of the newer Macs you're better off with Vista if only for the DDR3 RAM support which, I'm told, isn't found in XP. The RAM works just fine in XP but, again from what I've been told, Vista can use it to it's fullest.

Windows Boot Camp does not exist, you mean Boot Camp Assistant, which is a Mac program, it is the program you would use to prepare your Mac to run Windows.
You will need a 64bit retail or OEM version of Windows Home or Professional.
You will also need to read the Boot Camp Documentation thoroughly, and make a complete backup of your machine before repartitioning.

  • Hi guys i used boot camp and turned my mac into windows and i wanted to play a pc game on the windows and i cant find a proper program to actually setup the game someone help me please

hi guys i used boot camp and turned my mac into windows and i wanted to play a pc game called guild wars 2 and i cant find a proper program to actually setup the game

Only if you decide to share with us your particular situation. Guild Wars should install and run like any other Game. Other than the Game Installer, Games don't need some other installer to make them work. Only someone who reads the instructions for the proper installation.

  • I want to use Boot Camp to play PC games on my PowerMac G5.  Any Advice?

I'm about to install Leopard & use Boot Camp for the first time to make a PC partition which will be used almost exclusively for PC gaming (mostly WWII shooters). I need some advice about how to go about maximizing my gaming experience. First, how big should the partition be? 25GB? 50GB? My home drive has a capacity of about 230 GB. What PC OS should I use? Vista or XP? What kind of video card should I have?
    I've got a Power Mac G5 with 2 x 3 Ghz quad core Intel Xeon, 4GB 667 Mhz DDR2 F8-DIMM and a ATY Radeon X1900 XT 512MB video card.
    Thanks

First, how big should the partition be? 25GB? 50GB? My home drive has a capacity of about 230 GB.
You mentioned that you will use your computer exclusively for Windows gaming and therefor I would recommend a partition at least to be at 70GB and 100GB if you can afford the space. Depending on the amount of games and disk space they use, you will need make your call.
What PC OS should I use? Vista or XP?
I am assuming that you would to use ALL of your 4GB Ram. If you use XP then you will only be able to use 2GB - 3GB RAM. You will need Windows Vista 64BIT Home Premium installed on your Mac Pro to take advantage of all 4GB.
What kind of video card should I have?
You already have the ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512MB Video Card installed and that should work well.
I've got a Power Mac G5 with 2 x 3 Ghz quad core Intel Xeon
Are you sure you have a Power Mac G5 as you wrote in your post? I think you meant *Mac Pro*. At least I hope that is what you meant since if you meant the former then Windows will not run on your G5.

  • Boot Camp not playing along

    Hello,
    Im trying to get windows 7 ultimate x64 on my macbook pro. However every time I try and use Boot Camp Assistance it keeps saying;
Boot Camp Assistant cannot be used.
you must update your system software before using this setup assistance.
I have obviously ran the updater multiple times and keeps saying theres no more updates. Restarted many times.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

There is a forum for Boot Camp, and if you click on SUPPORT tab takes you to various products and Apple support tech notes.
    http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp
    1. Open Disk Utility (Utility folder) and run Repair Permissions
    2. the error message is never helpful or is there something "out of date" or that needs updating.
    3. try repairing your system drive with Disk Utility from your OS X DVD

  • Effect on Boot Camp of upgrading OS

    Dear Boot Camp gurus,
My iMac (tech details below) has been at 10.6.8 for a long time due to compatibility requirements with older software. That need has now gone away and I want to get to 10.9 Mavericks before Yosemite releases. It appears all my apps are now compatible with Intel and  Mavericks (no PowerPC apps).
I current have a very stable installation of Win 7/64 Home Premium on this computer (160GB partition), installed via BootCamp Assistant v3.0.4. I have questions about preserving Windows access past any OSX upgrade:
    1) If I upgrade the Mac OS, will I still be able to access Win 7 normally and do the BootCamp updates from there?
    2) Will I have to start over and reinstall Win 7 instead?
I have already downloaded the BootCamp 5 support files so can move those to a USB flash drive after the upgrade. I used the Win7/64 System Builders' Edition originally and it registere with MS without issue.
I don't use the Win partition that much but rely on it to "pre-work" methods for maintaining two Win computers at a museum where I volunteer. I am not a Win guy but, as the only volunteer there who can spell "computer" correctly 70 percent of the time, I became the default support guy!
Thanks in advance for any recommendations.
    Allan

    Thanks, Niel.
I did the Mav upgrade while the Tuesday event was "trying to play," and finally had time this moring to test the Boot Camp partition. Using the Startup manage I successfully booted to Win 7, did some tests, and then was able to use teh BootCamp icon in the Win Task bar to get back to the Mac side.
My only concern is that the Boot Camp files in the Win partition are v4 but those installed in Mav are v5. I supposed it doesn't matter in that Win seems to work perfectly. However, when I original bootcamped this computer, BC was at v3 and somewhere I got an SU notice in windows that updated it to v4.
