Play DVD on iMac and watch it on TV

I don't have a DVD player with my television. If I want to watch DVD movies on my TV screen, can I do this by connecting my iMac -- which plays DVDs -- to my television?
Is this where I would need the Apple Video Adapter? According to the iMac manual, I plug one end into the video-out port of the iMac and the other into the S-video port on the back of the TV. Is that all there is to it? Don't I need video cable, or is that part of the adapter?
Do I control the playback of the DVD via the DVD Player program on the iMac? And if I have a VCR connected to the TV, do I have to disconnect that first before DVD playback will work?
I hope anyone who's done this can tell me what I need to know. Thanks all.

Is that all there is to it?Yes, except that if you want the TV to play the audio you will need an audio cable to go from the iMac's headphone port to the TV's audio input.Don't I need video cable, or is that part of the adapter?Yes you will need an S-video cable to go between the video adapter and your TV.Do I control the playback of the DVD via the DVD Player program on the iMac?Yesif I have a VCR connected to the TV, do I have to disconnect that first before DVD playback will work?Only if the VCR is connected to the TV's only S-video input.

  • Can I play a movie on my iMac and watch it through my Apple TV2?

I want to steam a movie on my iMac upstairs and watch it downstairs on my Apple TV

If the Movie is in itunes and in a compatible format yes - either selecting on AppleTV under Computers>iTunes library>movies or playing in iTunes and using AppleTV as an Airplay destination.
If you mean an inserted DVD or from a non-itunes app then no.

  • Play DVD in Laptop and stream to Apple TV  ?

Is it possible to play DVD movies in our laptops and stream it to ATV 2 ?
We don't have a DVD player but we have 3 laptops and watch movies on our laptops.

I wonder if it might be possible for someone to write a utility that would somehow make a DVD look like a valid video file? Something that would do on the fly translation.
it would need to break the encryption on the DVD, which is what isn't allowed as per the DMCA.

  • Playing DVD's on my IMac and Watching them on ATV3

I have an older IMac 27 inch (late 2009) Running Yosemite 10.10 My ATV is gen 3 running the latest software 7.03 I believe. I understand with the age of the computer I can not Mirror to my ATV. Is there a third party program out there that will allow me to see a DVD playing on my Mac on my ATV as well?
As best I can tell I will have to "Rip" my DVD's to store them on ITunes. So again my question is, is there software out there that will allow me to watch movies on my ATV from my Mac without ripping them first??  Thanks for any help!

You would be using a 3rd party program to mirror your screen, the DVD player app blocks mirroring due to copy protection. An alternative app that allows this would have to bypass the protection, and this would fall into the same policy as the ripping.

  • DVD from TV DVD Recorder plays on one iMac and not another

I've recorded DVD+Rs on a Sony DVD/VHS analog/digital recorder. They play fine on my white iMac, but appear as a blank burnable disk on my aluminum iMac. Could this be a software issue of something I've added to the white iMac they do play on? Darned if I know what it is...
    Any troubleshooting suggestions gratefully accepted.

Turns out the link above will answer the question.
    Plug in the swiper.
    Go to the Apple menu.
    Click System Preferences.
    Click Keyboard.
On the Keyboard tab, click Change Keyboard Type. The Keyboard Setup Assistant appears in a new window.
    Click Continue.
When you see a message starting with "Press the key immediately..." as shown below, swipe a card.
Click OK. You’re taken to Select The Keyboard Type.
Select ANSI (United States and others).
    Click Done.
    The card should swipe successfully.

  • Is there a way to play DVD on iMac or MacBookPro and stream it to AppleTV

Apple makes it easy to download their movies and airplay out to AppleTV...what about a DVD rental that I am playing on either computer device and then streaming it out to AppleTV...can't seem to do that one without make a hard wire connection from computer to TV directly.
Has anyone figured this one out or is Apple working on it...seems like a no brainer to me???

Chenks...thank you for that...but why will that not be ever done? seems like common sense to me
well for starters DVD is a dying format, so why bother supporting it.
can you name any other similar device to the appletv that supports DVD streaming?
also the appletv is all about itunes store content (and selling that content), so why offer physical media support when the device is all about non-phsyical media.

  • TV/DVD 22DL833B combo is playing DVD in black and white

We were given a year old, but never used Toshiba 22DL833B tv and dvd all in one.
On playing a DVD, the picture is black and white. As far as we are aware, there is no physical fault. We are unable to check if it is just the dvd player that is affected as we do not have sky multi room to test tv channels, it was purely for our daughter to watch dvd 's on.
We have gone through all the setting on the menu button on the remote and cannot find a solution.
Does anyone have a solution? Thank you.
Edit: it is capable of colour, as the icons in the settings menu e.g picture settings are partly blue.

    This sounds really strange.
Does the black/white picture appear playing all possible DVDs?
Ive no plausible explanation for that because I did not find any setting/option in the user manual which could explain why this black/white screen appears using the DVD player.
But it could be possible that the issue is related to the different DVD region code.

  • How can I go back the same song that was playing when I switched and watched a movie?

How can I go back to the same song and place in the song that was playing when I started watching a movie?  I have over 6k songs and now my ipod always goes back to #1 even though I may have been listening to # 321.  How do I ever get to listen to all my songs.  Yes I have it on random but if I look at the songs I have played lots of them have played 15-20 times amd many more 6-8 times.  At this point I don't feel I will ever hear the latest songs I added.
Any help will be greately appreciated.  Also is it possible to do the same on the new ipod classic 160?

One area that this appears is on Facebook where it lists the number of Recognized Devices. There are six devices which include iPad and iPhone. These items are grayed and you are unable to change. Also on my iphone it lists the computer name. This name is different from name of my computer. It's what I signed in as when I installed the Mountain Lion upgrade. I know I'm not doing a good job of explaining this. I have searched everywhere on my computer that I can think of and cannot locate where this is used. Any suggestions are appreciated.

  • Satellite M30X: drive won't read data DVD-R's but plays DVD-R movies and CD's

    I have a Toshiba M30X with DVD/CDRW combi drive.
I have accumulated 12gb of digital photo's that I wanted to clear but did not fancy the number of CD's that entailed so I purchased a LITEON EZ-DUB external DVD rewriter and made 3 DVD-R's full of JPEG's.
However, when I put these DVD's in the Toshiba combi drive, it clicks away for a moment or two but when I click on the combi drive in My Computer, the folder is empty and it says there's 0 bytes.
CD's still work, both audio and data, DVD movies play just fine, DVD-R's made on my Pioneer DVD recorder (for TV - looks like a video/nothing to do with PC) play fine, but it will not recognise DVD-R's with data (JPEG's or MP3's) on them.
It makes no difference which software was used (both Nero 6.6 and LITEON EZDUB) and it doesn't matter whether the discs are finalised, single session, multi session or what - it won't play any of them.
These discs however work perfectly in my 7 year old desktop with a 4 year old Sony DVD/CDRW combi.
    I'm stumped.
I don't particularly want to reinstall windows in case it doesn't recognise the Recovery DVD and I seem to remember Microsoft One Note having to be activated by telephone with a code that is different each time you ask it to generate one.
It's a bit of a pain as I wanted to carry my photo's with me in my laptop bag.
I don't want to be carting around an external DVD writer just to read the DVD's.
    I've updated the firmware for SD-R 2512.
It had no effect other than to freeze on an all black screen during restart - I had to hold down the power switch after 15 minutes in that condition.
The laptop is 1 year and 26 days old if that counts for anything.
Anyone have any ideas? Or do I just put up with it.

    Hi
Well, I can only make some suggestions.
You are able to place many MP3 and Jpeg files on the DVD.
Maybe this is a reason why the explorer cannot handle the DVD.
Try to burn the DVD with JEPG picture but don't make the DVD full with these files.
You should let a free space on the medium. Maybe it helps.
But it's very strange for me and this is only a suggestion. I have never tired it and don't know if it helps.
I had a similar issue on my notebook but I have solved it by using a compatible medium. Some drives prefer different mediums for different kind of files.

  • Play DVD on laptop and transfer to iMovie?

    Hi all.
Is there a way to play a home burned DVD on a mac laptop and transfer it to iMovie on another Mac?
I have a DVD that I need to take some footage off of and put into a section of an iMovie project. For some reason it freezes on my stand alone DVD player but plays alright on my mac laptop.

  • How to play game on Facebook and watch movies on internet, How to play game on Facebook and watch movies on internet

    Flash player ???

Flash player is not supported and probably never will be : http://www.apple.com/hotnews/thoughts-on-flash/ . Also Adobe have failed to create a version that works on iOS devices and have apparently now given up trying.
Depending on what sites you are trying to access, you might find that some of them (probably more so if they are news sites) have their own apps in the App Store which might let you get some of the content that you want (and there is the built-in YouTube app). Also there are browsers such as Skyfire, iSwifter and Puffin which 'work' on some sites - but judging by the reviews not all sites.
If you want to play flash games then you are probably out of luck if you want to play on-line though the iSwifter app might work on some of them, but again some flash games have app versions in the store (I think that a few of the Facebook games have app versions, some of which link in to your facebook account).
