Play iTunes via airport express?

Hello
I have a couple old airport expresses with a 1/8 in output to play music received from iTunes wirelessly. BUT, AirPort utility won't recognize either airport express (I have depressed the reset button on each for 30 seconds) and I see no option for remote speakers in iTunes.
Is there anyway to play iTunes music through airport express? Is there another way?
Thanks
Doug

  • Can't play music via Airport Express

I've successfully played music through Airport Express before, but for some reason I keep getting this error message now: There are no speakers connected to the Aiport Device "Living Room".
I have connected Harman Kardon speakers and subwoofer connected to the Airport, but it must not be recognizing the connection. I believe I have it correctly set up on the computer end...any thoughts?

Are these speakers USB or are they connected with the 1/8" audio jack? What is your setup from pluging the audio speakers and the subwoofer?

  • Playing iTunes Through Airport Express (PC)

I am looking for advice to have success playing iTunes through my stereo speakers. The environment is PC and I have an Airport base station attached to my modem. The airport express is plugged in downstairs and I have the connection to the receiver to play through the stereo. My question is for the Express, am I setting up a new base station, or changing the config of the curent one? If so, what do I need to change on the configuration of the base station? I have reset it a number of times, but it continues to flash amber. It is an unsecured network----thanks for any assistance

I’ve been using Airport Express 4.1.01 (AX) for several years for the sole purpose of wirelessly playing iTunes thru stereo system which is in a different part of the house from my Dynalink Modem-Router.
I have recently bought a new Toshiba L/T with XP Prof OS and when I attempted to install AX I got an error message “A later version of iTunes is already installed on this machine. Installation cannot continue”. Current iTunes is V7. When I clicked OK on the error message I got the AX Introduction Window with the 3 icons (Internet, Music and Printer) appeared and over the top of the AX window another error message. “An error occurred while trying to use the wireless internet system” and the Next button on the AX window was dimmed. Once I clicked OK on error window Next button was available and clicking it I chose the “Set up a new AX” option and next the “Create a new wireless net work network” option.
No Airport Express base station was found despite rescanning and also being in the same room barely 2 metres from the AX and in the same position where everything had worker OK on my previous L/T. Tired of rescanning I had no option but to cancel. However, AX seems to be installed.
At this stage I followed Tesserax’s advice to thiels 17 (June 9th) pressed the reset button, connected my L/T to AX with an Ethernet cable and opened the AX Admin Utility. This opened Base Station Chooser. There are NO Tabs for either AirPort or Music Settings. Instead there are 3 Menu items – File, Base Station and Help as well as two buttons – Other and Rescan. I don’t have the information for the information asked by pressing Other.
Maybe the AirPort and Music Tabs are on a later AX Version? When I attempted to update AX after downloading Airport V5.0.14 I was got the message “This update requires Airport V 5.0 to be installed. I can’t find V 5.0 to download if that is in fact the answer to my problems.

  • Hum When Playing iTunes Through Airport Express

I have recently rewired my surround system, and now I am getting a hum when I play music through my Airport Express. I made no changes to the A/V receiver as it pertains to the Airport Express. I get no hum when watching the TV, only when listening to music though the Airport Express. Any suggestions?

Might it be possible that you may have some form of Wi-Fi interference in the area that may be the source of the hum that you're hearing from the AX?
I suggest you perform a simple site survey, using utilities like AirPort Client Monitor (a part of AirPort Management Tools), MacStumbler, or iStumbler to determine potential areas of interference...and either, eliminate them or attempt to significantly reduce them.

  • Cannot play music via Airport Express

I have airport express (hereafter AE) and have been trying to make Deezer connect to the AE which is connected to a stereo receiver. The following happens. When I configure AE to "join existing network" (which is my wireless internet connection network, that is simply a DSL connection) Deezer cannot connect and stream music - in this case I have internet connection but no music stream. When I configure AE to "create a new network" Deezer can connect to AE and streams music - in this case I have no internet connection but music stream. What I am trying to have is both an internet connection and music stream. An suggestions for a solution? I also need to inform you that with iTunes I do not have a problem. When I configure AE as "join existing network" I can connect to the internet and iTunes can stream music. So I do not really understand where the problem lies.

    Hi Pitiger,
The article linked below provides a lot of great information and troubleshooting tips which will help you setup both your AirPort Express and DSL router, so that you can browse the web and use AirPlay.

  • Wireless Speakers via Airport Express

I have two sets of powered speakers which I play my music from iTunes via Airport Express units. My issue is after months of excellent sound and no problems, it appears I am now losing connection to the speakers which means the music stops and starts, VERY frustrating....! The internet connection via the Airport Express units is not a problem, just the music.
Has anyone had similar problems and is there an answer...??????

  • Can I play tracks from my iPod via Airport Express on only from my laptop?

I can play tracks from my laptop thorugh my Bose Lifestyle  Airport Express.  Is there a way to play tracks from my iPod Touch through my Bose system via Airport Express?   My Airport Express is set up as a client to my Sky Broadband wireless router.

I set up my laptop to my Bose Lifestyle System via Airport Express. It may be different for MAC but I just downloaded the Airport Express software and followed the on-screen set-up procedure, which includes entering your WI-FI key.  I do not have an iPad.  You need to select Airport Express in iTunes as your sound media. This is easily switched by an icon in the bottom right corner of the screen.  You will need to switch this back if you want to revert to using the laptop speakers.

  • Streaming itunes audio via airport express to TV speakers

Using imac, itunes and airport express.
I am trying to utilize tv audio component to play music as remote speaker using itunes and airport express.
With the tv on and approriate component selected - no sound. If I turn off TV and then back on - I get about 3 seconds of music via airport exp connection then silent.
    Any suggestions?

I have connected airex to a sony mfm-ht205 lcd tv/display. I have used the airex monster cables stereo to dual-rca connectors to connect to tv.
The tv has 2 video and 1 component set of jacks. Each of these has audio red/white right/left jacks for audio cords (presumably the dual end of monster cable).
With tv off and airex connected, when I turn tv on I get music from itunes (via airex) on tv speakers for about 3 seconds then nothing.
    Thanks for response.

  • When playing my i-tunes library through my hi-fi via Airport Express, how can I get i-tunes to play a single album and then stop, without continuing on through my entire library. It's a problem that doesn't occur when I'm listening through my i-pod.

    Hey everyone in Apple world!
I figured out how to fix the flashing yellow screen problem that I've been having on my MBP!  Yessssss!!!
I found this super handy website with the golden answer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
I followed the instructions on this page and here's what I did:
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
I went through the 6 steps above twice, just to make sure I got rid of whatever stuff was holding up my bootup process.  Since I did that, my MBP boots up just like normal.  No flashing yellow screen anymore!!
(Note that I arrived at this solution when I first saw this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570?viewlocale=en_US)
Let me know if this works for you!

  • Best way to extend wireless via airport express and time capsule

best way to extend wireless via airport express and time capsule
i live in a two storey house where i use my airport express to create a wireless network in the main floor, and time capsule to extend it in the upper floor, where my room is. i have like 16 mbps in the main floor, and 2-3 mbps in the upper floor after having speediest.
i used time capsule in the upper floor because i use wireless backup daily and don't want to put internet down while i im doin it and consequently my parent can have internet access in the main floor, am i right? or do i have make just the opposite in order to have a good internet speed?
secondly, while checking airport express wireless mode on airport utility, there is like 4 different type of radio mode(802 11n bg comp, 802 11n 2.4, 802 11n a comp, 802 11n 5ghz) which i have no idea what they mean
    what do you recommend?
we have like iphone4, iphone 3g, mbookpro, ipad, ipad 2, samsung tv and a sony vaio laptop in the wireless network
    thank you

What you have would appear to be working but I can comment how I would redefine your setup.  Note that both Airport Express and Time Capsule can function as wireless base stations so you do have wireless everywhere and at all times — using the Time Capsules for backups doesn’t mean your parents won’t have internet access regardless of the where the base stations are located.
You appear to have devices to connect to your network that use the 2.4 GHz band with 802.11g such as the iPhone 3G and perhaps the 5 GHz band with 802.11n such as likely the Macbook Pro if it’s a recent model.  The iPhone 4 can use 5 GHz and 802.11n.  Can’t comment on the Sony and Samsung but you can check their specs.
Now the Time Capsule (if it’s a recent version), can simultaneously supply 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz band signals, but the Airport Express (if it’s recent) can only use one of those bands at one time.  Likely the lowest common denominator for your devices is going to be the 2.4 GHz band since the devices that are capable of using 5 GHZ also support 2.4 GHz.  If you don’t use 5 GHz, you won’t lose much in a two-storey home because likely it’s the 2.4 GHz band is better signal anyway because 5 GHz signals drop off quickly with several walls/floors to penetrate.
You also didn’t mention if the Airport Express is used to support a printer and/or AirPlay (using iTunes to play on remote speakers via the Airport Express connection) but that might also be a factor in the best location to place the Airport Express.  Although the printer could be switched between the Time Capsule and the Airport Express if needed, only the Airport Express will support your remote speakers.
Recommend you use the Time Capsule as the Base station.  When using Airport Utility to define the network, after you name your network, etc., select the Wireless tab, check the box “Allow this network to be extended” and set the Radio Mode to "802.11n (802.11b/g compatible)”.
Using the Airport Utility, click on the Airport Express; after you define the device and network name, select the Wireless tab, define the Wireless Mode as “Extend a Wireless Network” and check the box “Allow wireless clients”.
    Hope that helps.

  • Speaker volume via Airport Express

My iTunes volume plus the volume on my speakers are both set to the maximum but the music volume is very low when I play iTunes through my speakers via Airport Express - much lower than if I plug my iPhone directly into my speakers
Any tips on how to fix this would be much appreciated
    Thanks!

have you tried to power cycle your gear ?
shut everything down for 10 minutes. then, in intervals of 5 minutes, turn the modem back on, followed by the main router, the express next, and you computer last.
    does the problem persist ?

  • Connect Imac to Stereo via Headphone Jack & 2nd Stereo via Airport Express

I have two whole-house stereo systems; one serving the lower level (basement) of my house and another serving the first and second floors. My iMac is on the lower level. The house was prewired with two coax cables (standard cable TV-type cables) from the area behind my stereo on the lower level to the room where my iMac is located. Using adapters from Radio Shack, I was able to directly connect my iMac to my home stereo on the lower level. I can currently play my iTunes on my lower level stereo by plugging the cable into the headphone jack on my iMac.
I am set up with a wireless network using a Linksys WRT54G. I would like to be able to also stream music from iTunes on my iMac to my home stereo on the first floor. I realize I can do this with the use of Airport Express.
My goal is to be able to play the same music from iTunes on my iMac on both stereos simultaneously. My question is; if I have my lower level stereo connected to my iMac via the headphone jack, will I still be able to stream the same music from iTunes to my upper level stereo via Airport Express? I'm concerned that by connecting the lower level stereo to the headphone jack, the music will not be able to be streamed wirelessly to the upper level stereo.
Thank you in advance for your time.

    Hi.
Assuming your iMac is no more than 50 feet from where you intend to locate the express then:
You will need to configure your airport express to join your current wireless network in client mode (otherwise you won't be able to use the internet and the express at the same time).
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302153
In iTunes there is an option to select multiple speakers. Thus you select this and then check the desired options. Hence you can have music coming out of the speakers/hadphone jack on your iMac AND out of the speakers connected to the airport express.
