Play list refuses to burn!

I'm using an iMac G4 with about 12gigs of HD space available (I know, I know) and I put my itunes library on my external HD a 250 gig external. Before I did that I could burn CD's with no problem.
Today, I went through close to 25 CD-R's trying to burn 3 stupid songs. In itunes preferences I have it set to "Audio CD" and I have in importing set to "MP3 encoding" I remember that after the disc burned it would automatically eject itself. Now, it will write the disc, burn and then make a second copy on the desk top. Basically, I will put in the blank disc, name it and it will mount to the desktop showing how much space is available and ready to go, then when I go through the steps to burn, a second disc will come on the desktop under the same name I named the disc "Mix File" or whatever, and it will have the mp3's on it, but the first disc that mounted will still be sitting there and when I go to remove it the eject symbol will turn into the "burn" symbol. So, I go ahead and drag the disc to be burned and then it will say "An error occured with the disc. It cannot be used" or something to that effect.
I strongly believe that it has something to do with me having itunes on the external, but I don't understand what. I am BEYOND frustrated. I don't understand why 'double' discs are showing up and why the first disc is still sitting there waiting to be burned after everything has gone through the motions of burning the CD. Does anyone think it has something to do with the external? I don't know what to do.
The disc I'm using are hp cd-r 52x 700mb/80min

I am confused. It sounds like you are going two things. First you are loading in a blank CD and in the FINDER, mounting it to be used to store files. Then you try to go into iTunes and have it burn a playlist, where it will ask for its own CD. It won't know to use the "mounted" blank CD you set up.
You should NOT put in a blank initially. Instead, set up your playlist, hit the burn button and wait for iTunes to prompt you for a blank.

Burning to disk from play list

I'm having some trouble burning play list from Itunes to CD. I get the message "insert correct media", however, I am sure the blank disc is fine. I had been able to burn to CD in the past. I dowloaded new version of Itunes without any success. I tried multipule blank discs without success. I increased burning speed, decreased time between songs and double checked driver, which appears to be correct. any suggestions?

1. Audio recordings recorded in Quicktime 7 pro . Eighteen separate short recordings (18 tracks).
1A. the combined playlist byte is 28.3 Megabytes
2. Moved to I-tune.
3. Created playlist in I-tunes.
4.I go to file dropdown and request "burn playlist to disc"
5. Burn Settings dialog box appears. I click burn.
6."Insert blank disc", appears in top wlindow.
7. insert blank disc; the 'Insert blank disc order" disappears but nothing happens after that.
There is no indication or even a hint of anything happening.

When I try to burn a play list to a CD some of the songs are grayed out and then not burned to the disc. How can I fix this problem?

why are some of the songs on the play list I am trying to burn to a CD "grayed out" when I start burning the CD and there for not included in the finished CD? How can I fix this problem. Btw, I have been using iTunes for years and this problem just came up quite recently. Thanks

Burning multiple play lists on Itunes

How do I burn multiple play lists on a CD-R or CD-RW using Itunes?
So say when I finish burning my CD will have 2 separate folders or Play lists of music thus braking down my music into folders.

If you want to burn a data CD with two folders of audio files, just do it in the Finder.

Burning a play list to a dvd,

I use the shuffle option to play music on my I POD. Included is my christmas music. Can i create a dvd from I tunes of my Christmas play list & then delete that list from I tunes so it will no longer be on the I Pod?
Can I then next Christmas import the dvd back to i tunes?

If you want to use the unchecking method above you'll need to reflect that setting on the iPod for it to work. To stop unchecked songs being loaded you have to choose "sync only checked songs and videos" in the iPod Summary tab, unchecking the song in iTunes isn't enough. This remove the Christmas songs from your iPod so they won't appear when you use shuffle, Check the songs when you want them to go back onto the iPod and sync iTunes.

Burn voice mp3 play list to audio CD. convert bit rate or sample rate.

I have several audio files (voice), 30 in all, that I wish to play in a car CD player.
The car player cannot play mp3. Using iTunes I tried buring a play list of mp3 files to an Audio CD.
I get an alert from iTunes that I may require multiple CD's. Each mp3 file is around 90megs in size or about an hours worth of audio (voice).
The audio files are voice no music. But they are at 192 kbps bit rate and 44 khz sample rate.
Is there a way of converting them to squeeze more files onto a CD? Changing bit rate or sample rate?
Can itunes do that? Or is there a utility that can do that?

Now that memory serves me right. CDs have the MB size and the Minute size on them. example 700MB/80Minutes.

Why does iTunes sometimes refuse to burn a 78:30 playlist?!?

Most of the time iTunes 6 will burn a 79:30 playlist to an 80-minute CD-R with no fuss. (That's a real 79:30 or 79:40 or even 79:55, not the list of times as iTunes displays them to the whole second. I monitor the time precisely using the Info/Options panel for each track.)
But once in a while, iTunes decides a playlist is too long even when it's not, like when it is really 78:30. This happens erratically. But when it does continue to give me this message, no amount of chopping time off each track seems to matter. (I use Peak to edit out "dead air" at the end. Doing this to 20 tracks can cut over a minute from the total time of a playlist.) It will only burn to one CD if I remove a whole track.
I just tested one case where it burned 75:50 but not the last track, which was another 2:43. I rebuilt the playlist one track at a time with a new name, but no cigar. I really want this particular 78:30 playlist on one CD. Can anyone help with this?

I would like at once to thank you for making this point again and also to say that it is just not relevant to the problem I'm having. However much space TAO takes up, at the end of the day it's accountable in the total time on the CD. I am not having a problem with iTunes failing to accept a playlist near the limit of time. When the playlist plus TAO space plus anything else adds up to under 80 minutes, iTunes will burn it.
My problem comes when I begin with a playlist of specific tracks that total a few seconds more than 80 minutes. Not incidentally, this is the result of iTunes adding from two to five seconds to each track as it imports the track using Apple Lossless Compression. As a result, a playlist that was actually shorter than 80 minutes becomes longer than 80 minutes.
Then, WITHOUT CHANGING THE TITLES, I remove 60 seconds from the total playlist time BY EDITING THOSE TITLES to make them shorter. For example, "Only the Lonely.mp4" is changed from 2:28.93 to 2:23.87.
I do this by using Peak to remove "dead air" from the end of the track. I then save the new file and substitute it for the old one in the iTunes library. I look before and after at the iTunes file info to confirm I have actually shortened the track by 5.06 seconds as far as iTunes is concerned. In my playlist the time now reads 2:23 instead of 2:28. I do this to other tracks, 10 or more times, to reduce the actual running time of the playlist by a full minute or more. The playlist is now UNDER 79 MINUTES.
But iTunes will not burn this exact playlist on one CD. IF, on the other hand, I simply change one track from my playlist to another track (with a new name) and a shorter playing time, iTunes will burn it just fine. What iTunes will not let me do is burn the exact playlist I started with, from which I have subtracted a full minute's time. I need a fix for this specific situation.

Can no longer Play DVD's or Burn Disks in on Macmini

Hi,
I have recently rebuilt my MacMini with a new WD500 Gb hard drive with Snow Leopard and that went fine.
One issue that maybe related is that I can no longer play DVD's or burn items to DVD. I have had a look in system profiler and can see the Pioneer drive in the ATA Device Tree.
When I insert a DVD, I hear the drive trying to run it but after a while it just spits the DVD out. If I insert a blank DVD, it recognises the DVD and I can select it to burn but when it starts the burning process it fails and again spits the disc out.
Any help would be appreciated.

Note for 2 USB port Mac Minis (as opposed to 4 or 5 on the rear), be sure to get a Firewire optical drive, as Mac OS X won't boot USB on PowerPC Macs except in rare USB model drives that are hard to find.

How do I change the new iTunes play list total time display from 1.5 hours format to exact display of 1hr 31min 12sec.

In the new iTunes the play list total time displays in 1.5 hours format, how do I get it to clearly show 1hr 31min 12sec like before, I want the exact time so I can properly fit all the songs when I want to burn this playlist to a disc. You can no longer just click on it to change the display format. Nor can you right click, control click, or change it in options. If anyone knows I would very much appreciate your imput. Thank You.

Actually, that's the problem ... in iTunes *11* it has stopped working. I have the status bar displayed, and it is stuck on the 1.x hours format.

I can't get that to happen on mine. It worked in 11.0 and I updated today to 11.0.1 and it's OK.

The menu is a template that I purchased from Precompossed Pro Motion Menus.
I edited in FCP, exported at a Quicktime file, Encoded with Media Encoder 5.5 I noticed that one of the menu assest has a little green icon but the others have a orange and red.
Where do I find the details of the play list?

How to BU a large play list

Must be doing something wrong that is very basic here:
For Christmas, I loaded all my jazz Christmas CDs into iTunes and made a large playlist which became my winter jutebox. Wonderful.
Wish to clear the HD space, and Backup this play list to a DVD or HD.
I tried to highlight the whole play list and drop into a folder, DVD, or HD to BU. Won't go anywhere.
What am I doing wrong?

Did you try highlighting the playlist in iTunes and choosing Burn Disc then when you got the burning preferences box choosing Data DVD? If the playlist is too large you might consider making more than one and splitting the songs across them:
