Play .m4v in my website?

I am trying to get my website functionality to be able to play .m4v files that I upload.  Right now I have http://www.bellavenue.org/video/0612am.m4v, but when I go to that address in Firefox, it merely prompts me to download the video.  I want it to be more like MSNBC.  Their link is http://msnbcpod.vo.llnwd.net/content/video/podcast/pdv_nn_netcast_m4v-07-12-2011-185527.m4 v and when you type it into Firefox, it pulls up Quicktime.  How can I change my website to do the same thing?

Why not use a better player like the JW Player?
Using QT player eliminated viewers that do not have the QT pluggin and/or the particular QT pluggin needed.
The Web video battle Flash vs QT was lost long ago to Flash. JW Player uses javascript Flash detection to cater to BOTH Flash and non Flash viewers. And it provides for play lists so you can easily display multiple videos in the same Web page space.
For sure you don’t want to directly download the file as you are now doing. It means that the viewer has to wait until the ENTIRE video file is downloaded before they see anything.
Same situation with the MSNBC file…. Don’t make me wait that long!
Progressive download the file. Use an appropriate media player so that the video downloads a little of the file and then starts playing while the rest of the file downloads.

    I recently purchased an iPhone 4S however I am not able to play videos directly from websites like metacafe.com and all others. Whereas few of my friends who bought iPhone 4S / 5 (factory unlocked) versions can very well play videos from all websites.      The Nokia 3720 classic is a IP54 level water,
    Not even close to good enough, LCD screen will crack, water will go in through the jack/charger ports..
    The phone i describe has no external ports just 4-5 little pins which can't let water in or out of the device, the docking station will connect via these 4 - 5 pins for data transfer and recharging...., IPX8 standard, all the electronics are epxoyed with a glue to stop real bad shocks from drops and bangs, along with a silicon case and all the other preventative meausres means this little phone is going to outlive you.
    in combination with heart rate external bluetooth connection, really what more could you want... only the Sonim comes close in terms of perfection but if it managed to pack all of above, then it would be simply wow... I don't think there's enough people who work for nokia who actually go camping, backpacking, hiking, i'm pretty sure that if i told them one day
    on a holiday you might drop your phone into the swimming pool, ok fine it's a mistake but damn, there goes your $$$$ N7 or N900 or even a HTC or Iphone.... not this, you'd yell to the first person you see in the pool, hey mate can i have my phone back, don't worry about the water damage, i'll get it back on insurance after a small lie stopping the person from running off with it (in fear of the now useless mobile phoned killed by water, making an attempt to steal be useless) 
    The person gets their phone back and carries on about his day, it drops out of your pocket, how many times you ran over it because you happened to leave it behind the back tire. oh no i ran over my phone, the tough casing and the epoxy keeping it nice and safe, except for superficial damage cosmetic, the screen and phone should be working still able to make that call or send out GPS info....
    Sorry nothing comes close by any company (except Sonim) in terms of what they can do... maybe even a portable charger turn it to recharge like on LED dynamos. nah maybe not.

    can't find it (the program file) in order to "associate" M4V files
    with it. Okay, I thought that it may perhaps have embedded itself
    in Firefox so I tried to play a M4V file (which is on my hard disc)
    using Firefox but to no avail.

    It sounds like you upgraded Flash Player, isn't an
    exectuable file you
    can easily find. It's a plugin or ActiveX control, which
    means it's

    doesn't play
    M4V files directly. Instead, it allows Flash programmers to

  • Why won't Firefox play mp4 from my website using xplornet satellite?

    I can play mp4's on my website using Firefox and dial in. When I try and use xplornet sattellite it doesn't see them .It will open wmv. If I use Explorer and teh satellite I can play them. Many people with different operating systems and browsers can play them.
    What do I have to add, change or do for Firefox to play mp4 from my website? We have loaded the latest Firefox and it still doesn't work. It ha sto do with the satellite and Firefox. We must be missing some plug in, add on or something else.

    I think the problem is your OS. Firefox supports playback of H264 encoded video (mp4) but only where the ability to decode the stream is already included in the Operating System or in the hardware.
    This means that it will work for Windows Vista and above but not for XP since XP doesn't include the decoder.

    If you have control over the site then I suggest using a different Video format which is not patent encumbered. The webm format is one option:

    But site says it can play files with extension .m4v.
    the same file is working fine on vlc. but doesnt work on quicktime

    I think I've got the picture, as it were,
    The Touch will play .m4v files, and I have a bunch of these files working on my unit. However, the files must be no larger than 320 pixels wide.
    Once you have your file, find a utility to reduce the size; there's quite a number for Windows and Mac. I rely on iSquint, but if you do a search on Version Tracker using "ipod convert" as your search term, you'll find lots of options, several free.

    Usually, that's due to a DivX plug-in or Safari extension... start with Safari - Preferences - Extensions & switch them off. If nothing there, see Safari - Help - Installed Plug-ins & note any that are for DivX.

  • Just upgraded an iMac with 4GB Memory and Intel Processor from 10.6.8 to Mavericks and Quicktime plays m4v files with stuttering audio

    I just upgraded an iMac with 4GB Memory and 3.33 Ghz  Intel Core Duo Processor from 10.6.8 to Mavericks.  I now have Quicktime 10.3 which plays m4v files with stuttering audio.  This is a nightmare as I use Quicktime a lot in my research.  I have seen similar threads but so far only reporting the problem.  For now I have installed Quicktime Player 10.7 (which appears in utilities, leaving Quicktime 10.3 in the main applications list) which plays the same videos with no problem, but it would be good to know if anyone has managed to find a workaround at all, or know if Apple have plans to do anything about it?

    Slow performance after installing Yosemite on an older Mac is often caused by inadequate memory. Although you can install the upgrade on a Mac with 2 GB of memory, experience has shown that at least 4 GB is needed for full performance.
    Select About This Mac from the Apple menu. If you have less than 4 GB of memory, and your model has upgradable memory, install as much as it can take, or at least that much. Any reputable RAM vendor will have a web form in which you can select the Mac model and be directed to compatible parts.

  • Problems with playing quicktime video on website - can anyone help?

    I have incorporated quick time video onto my website so that the videos are viewable via iphone. I used the HTML and video files format (.m4v, .mov, .gp3) generated by Quickplayer pro "Export for web" option. The html code and videos files works when tested on the local server but does not work via the web server (www.viux.com), a question mark appears on the Quick Time Player.
    Can any one help? are we missing some plugin on the websever etc. Kindly help.

    Hi Guys, The problem is finally solved thanks to www.viux.com support team. All the codes and URL link were fine, the sever had to be configured to play .mov, .m4v ad .gp3 files, which was easily done (after being guided) through the control panel.
    Therefore My advise to anyone encountering such problems (Windows / linus platform website playing Quick Time Videos for iphones etc) is to contact the server provider as they will definitely have to either guide or modify the server settings to play such file formats.

  • Cannot play podcast from .mac website on iPhone's Safari

    Published a podcast, using iWeb on our .mac website. Works great on my laptop, however, on the iPhone using Safari, it just shows a QuickTime icon. If you click on the icon it takes you to the quicktime site to download the latest version of quicktime. There isn't a "play" button visible to press instead.
    If I subscribe to the podcast, download it into iTunes and then sync my iPhone, it works great. Is it possible to listen to podcasts right through Safari on the iPhone?

    It's that way because that's the way Apple designed it.
    I just merely wish to listen to them using itunes and my pc headphones while it charges the unit.
    You can still connect headphones to the iPhone and listen while your PC changes the iPhone. Until Apple changes things, that's it.

  • What is the best way to play .m4v on lcd?

    Hi. I have many movies in .m4v format in my macbook, but I really don't like having to connect every time I want to use it through thunderbolt or streaming from it. I would like to have a device which is always connected to the lcd through hdmi. I have the macbook, 2 external drives, ps3. But the ps3 must me fat32 which has the 4gb limit, so it doesn't work. I was thinking on a mac mini or the apple tv. ( nothing else comes to my mind). Though I'm not sure if the ATV would work, I have never used one. But it would be much cheaper. The mac mini would work for sure perfectly. The movies also have multiple languages in audio and subtitles, I use VLC player to play them, which works perfectly. Any suggestions on how to do this?

    A few options for the Video_TS folder:
    - One, as kyrunner said you can use DVD player (the "Open DVD media" item under "File" menu)
    - You can use the very adaptive VLC player, which is a free project and can be downloaded here <http://www.videolan.org/vlc/>
    - Another useful option is to use the great video_ts feature under "video" in Toast (7.0 or 8.0) this will allow you to drop a bunch of .VOB files off your Video_TS folder into toast, then decide what level of compression with which tracks (subtitles, supplements, audio etc.) to save. Once you're done you can save the new DVD as an image on your disk (File>Save as disk image) saving disk space since you dropped unneeded tracks but being able to double click the image and treat it like you would any real DVD (via DVD player VLC or any other).

    I realized the problems with the ipod nano 6th generation when i got myself one of these little toys and tried to get it running in my Ford Focus (build 2010) using the AUX-input of the car.
    Same problems with the static noise, no matter which cable i tried. But I ignored it then, because I usually use the iphone 3gs I have in my car for music and navigation (via AUX-input and headphones) without any problems.
    But that forgotten incompatibility-problem between ford aux-port (I have a CDS6000 radio) and iPod nano 6G just reappeared when I tried my new iphone 4s in the car. Just the same **** as with the ipod nano 6g.
    My guess is, that  apple replaced the earphone-sockets with some other components with the newer built devices (2nd half of 2010 and newer).
    So I've just ordered an adapter from apple-dock to AUX. I hope that helps, but I don't understand, why just Ford has this problem. I've tried the same cable with the iPod Nano 6G and iPhone 4S with my logitech speakers (using the headphone-socket) without any problems.
    If anybody has a clue why this happens, or what changed between the ipod/iphone generations regarding the headphone-socket, I'd like to know.
