Play mpg files in Bridge

I can play mov and other video files in Bridge but not mpg (mpeg-2). How can I play mpg video files?
[Moved from the generic Cloud forum to the specific Program forum... Mod]

I've also just discovered that Cyberlink PowerDVD will also play them.

  • Quicktime Wont Play MPG Files

    Hi,
Just bought my first Mac - loving it. Only issue I have so far is that I have a load of video camera clips with an .mpg extension, which I copied onto an external drive when I had my PC. Now when I come to play these files, it comes up with "The movie xxxxxx.mpg can't be opened. You may need to install additional software to open this type of file.
Wherever I look, it says Quicktime will play .mpg files, so I can't understand why they wont work. All the photo's on the same drive have gone into iPhoto no problem. When I go onto "tell me more" it starts going on about downloading additional media support. Not sure if I'm missing something simple!
    Please help!
    Thanks,
    Darran.

Yea...I did this when I got my Mac for Christmas 2009. I can watch the videos no problem...WITHOUT SOUND! If I use VLC everything works right, but I want to be able to burn the videos to DVD to watch somewhere else too. I bought a Mac because this was supposed to be easier...NOT!
Thinking of going back to a PC. At least everyone knows they have issues.

  • Need help playing .mpg files

Just recently my computer has stopped playing .mpg files with sound, all I get is the video. iTunes, Quicktime and the Internet all will not play them with sound. Youtube.com does play movie files with sound so I'm assuming they aren't .mpg files.
This problem just started happening recently and I have no idea what I did. .Mov files do play with sound.
    Thanks for any help.

The following steps solved my problem similar to yours.
    1. Open Audio MIDI Setup (/Applications/Utilities/), then check the Audio Output setting.
    2. Change the Audio Output setting to 44100.0 Hz.
    3. Quit Audio MIDI Setup.
For more detail, read this article.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300832
My output setting looked like 44100.0 Hz when I first opened Audio MIDI Setup. I changed it to 96000.0 Hz first and changed it back to 44100.0 Hz just to make sure the setting will be in effect. It worked.

  • S. can't play mpg files

    Hi,
Safari can't play mpg files any more. (I have to download them and play them with QT Player.) Instead, there is a vertical black stripe with little white dots in it.
Any idea would be much appreciated!
    Thanks a lot
    Peter

Don't trash the original Quicktime (10) app, you'll be sorry if you do. Quicktime 7 Pro does not add playback capability to videos. Right click on a video and pick Quicktime Pro 7 from the open with menu.
If you wish to use Quicktime Pro 7 to playback all videos when clicking on a video, get info in the finder for the video... scroll to open with... pick the open with drop down menu... pick Quicktime 7.... and hit the change all button.
If your still having problems playing  back your videos please post back. We need to find out what kind of mpg video files you have...

i've 2 problems: the first one is that i cannot play mpg files with totem, usually the codec i needed to install to play them was gstreamer0.10-ugly (that ofc is installed together with many others codecs ), but i can only hear audio from those files on the properties it shows "MPEG-1 video" codec, what package i need to install?
    Thank you.

yes, but it didn't help, with some files i get this error too:
GstCDXAParse: The stream is of a different type from than handled by this element

EDIT: i installed mplayer and i can play mpg with it, still not working with totem...

  • Can no longer play .mpg files

I just noticed this. iTunes will not play any .mpg files on my Intel Mini runing SnowLeopard. I don't know if this is confined to video files or not. I have iTunes 9. whatever, it's the latest. The same files play fine in Leopard on my G5 Tower in the same version of iTunes. When I try to watch them in FrontRow (which we all know about by now) it get the error message "Not a recognized file format." Once again I can watch these on the G5 in FrontRow with no trouble. Anybody have any ideas?
I'm really thinking of getting a bunch of used PPC Macs for my home entertainment network, ok i can't blame the poor Intel based models can I, it's just the Snow Leopard droppings all over my house.
    Thanks
    J.

I should add that these are mpgs of a television series. They were made with QuickTime Pro 7.6.2 or .3 just before the new iTunes and Snow Leopard came out. I can open them with either QT X or QTPro7 on the Mini and they play fine. I don't know where to point the finger since they play through iTunes fine on the PPC Leopard Mac and not the Intel Snow Leopard Mac. It could be how the new tunes works with the OS but those kind of hooks are harder to find than they were back in the old OS7,8,9 days. I'm not meaning to be an old bloke longing for the old days cause i love the magic of technology.

  • "Timed Out" message trying to play .mpg files on my STB

I recently downloaded the new version of Media Manager that plays videos.  I have a lot of .mpg files from home movies taken over the years.  They all play in the Media Manager on my PC, and the thumbnails show up on my TV with the Home Media Center STB.
But when I hit "OK" to play an .mpg clip, it first says "wait for up to 15 seconds for file to load" and then says "timed out; try again".
The Media Player menu that shows on my TV has a "FiOS Sample Video" (a 20 second clip that starts playing about 3 seconds) that plays without any problem.  The home movie .mpg clip I tried to play is a 12 second clip, but it always times out.
My PC is six feet from the Verizon wireless router, but I don't know what the bandwidth is to the STB.  My Internet service is 20/5, but when I test it I get 10/2.
    What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

i heard you have to rename certain files to play.  try renaming it to mpeg instead of mpg

  • Play audio files in Bridge CS6

    Hi,
I used to be able to play audio files created with my Mk4 right in the preview window in CS4 which was easy for renaming files after their description was recorded when taking the shot.
Does anyone know how I can do this in CS 6 - there are no play/pause controls under the preview like there was in CS4.
    Thanks Heaps for any help.

    Hi ,
yes , MK4 and .wav files
    I have Mac 10.7.5 & Bridge CS6
I have selected "Play audio files automaticly when selected" in the preferences but it doesnt do it.
In previous versions of bridge you could get a play and pause buttons below the .wav icon view in the preview
    but this doesnt happen.
It is really inconveinent as it defeats the purpose of having the .wav file and the I have to go back to Bridge CS4 to play the files.
    Thanks

  • How can I play mpg files on my mac or ipad?

Can I extend Quick Time to play files with the extension mpg? I don't want to have to convert all my files and I'd rather not have to use a different player.
I'm sure I've played these files on an older mac. Will Quick Time recognise them if I just rename the extensions?

Quicktime Player will easily play MPEG-1 and MPEG-4 files (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3775).  However, MPEG-2 files (typically from DVDs) are not supported natively (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3526).
The easy solution is to use a trusted 3rd party application that can play them.  One of the best is VLC player (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html).
One way to extent QuickTime player is to purchase QuickTime Pro for QuickTime 7 (http://www.apple.com/quicktime/extending/).  The best other way used to be to install Perian (http://perian.org/) but is is no longer supported.  They however recommend "niceplayer" (https://code.google.com/p/niceplayer/) froom the Perian web site.

  • Can't import or play .mpg files in iMovie or Quicktime

I have video files that play on a PC using WinDVD and have a .mpg file extension.  I'm assuming its MPEG-2 based on the quality.  They were taken by a Canon video camera and I have them on a USB drive.  Trying to import them in iMovie it just puts up a window saying "optimizing movies" but gives no time or anything else.  I left it for a couple hours and it did nothing.  I tried to play them in Quicktime but it wouldn't either or in the DVD player app.
Supposedly Lion has a native MPEG-2 codec but it doesn't seem to be working.  Any ideas on what to do?

    Hi All,
i have checked the Tools > Options > Applications, but i didn't see "Reset Download Actions". I solved this problem by installing Flash Player. Now i can play swf in firefox.

  • QT 7.3 Crashes Playing .mpg Files on Leopard

I've got lots of other problems with Leopard, but now I've discovered that any time I try to play a .mpg file with QT 7.3 (build QuickTime-6370000~5) on Leopard 10.5.1 (9B18), QT crashes. 100% reliable. Same for any app that uses the QT engine. Same files play fine on my other (non-Leopard) Macs.

Motu says to me that was an account problem:
"with the ultralite powered on, quicktime crashes when i try to play any .mpg video. The problem dissapears if i switch off the motu. I use a macbook with osx 10.5.1 leopard

ok. i've created a new user (administrator) and running with that account, the problem dissapears. Video mpg runs correctly... why?
Can i solve the problem in my original account?
    thank you.

I am not sure if you could solve this problem with your original user account, however that tells me that the problem is not with the unit, it is with your account. Perhaps you could try reinstalling quicktime, however I am not sure what the issue could be within your account."

  • Re: Use JMF to play mpg file

    Hi
You have to write your platform for targeted answere. But if I got the same problem when I tried to run my jpg on not system where jmf was not (properly) installed. It is quite possible your jmf to lack its native libs (on Win, DirectShow is used for mpg playing).
Possible solution: reinstall and make shure that dlls are in your win dir.
If on win, try playing your files with MediaPlayer (MS).

    Go look at this example.

i would like to see this as well.  i too have a 9550 and *.wav files sent to me from my office voicemail.
