Play Next feature coming to iPhone

Just started using iTunes 11 and I'm loving the play next feature. I was wondering if this feature is being developed for the iOS as well.
Also, is it possible to make your play next queue a playlist?

Please use the iTunes / iOS Apps forums, thanks.

    Hi Sarah,
It sounds like the songs have either not yet synced over to the iPhone, or something went wrong when attempting to sync to the iPhone. My recommendation is to uncheck the "Sync Music" checkbox.
Once you have done that, recheck the "Sync Music" checkbox, and apply the changes once more. This will instruct iTunes to completely remove all music from your iPhone, and then copy the files once more. If you have a large amount of music, this initial sync may take a while.
If the above does not resolve your issue, see the following articles:

  • What's the earliest version of iTunes to include the playnext and add to play next feature when right clicking a song?

What's the earliest version of iTunes to include the play next and add to play next feature when right clicking a song?

I started out with version 11 and loved it right up to the latest update.
I'm beyond my partying days so DJ has nothing for me but I realy loved the drop down with "what's next", the "play next" and the "add to play next" feature and best of all "SHOW DUPLICATES".
I have an eclectic taste in music and a very extensive music collection to go with it. The "show duplicates" feature allowed me to shrink my library by well ove 1,000 songs and eliminated hearing the same song several times when playing randomly. ie, I have the complete Rolling Stones collection and was able to get rid of no fewer than 7 coppies of "Satisfaction".
With all the duplicates lined up you can sample each one and avoid deleting different versions also.
I'm eagerly waitng for the next update to see if my problems with 11 will be fixed. The current update drops out sections of songs (Whipping Post by the Alman Bros. was over in 3 minutes) and I tried repairing and a complete uninstall, reinstall to no avail.

  • ITunes should have a "Play Next" feature

    Hey all,
I'm not sure about anyone else, but when I am playing music on iTunes, I would love to have a "play next" feature. For instance, if you're listening to one song and you know what song you would like to play next, you can simply just select that song and choose for it to be "played next." I get annoyed by making playlists and it just clogs my side bar on iTunes whenever I decide to do so.
Anyone know how I can contact Apple to let them know they need this feature on their next update?

Hi, I totally agree with PJM1. The party shuffle will do the trick for one subsequent song, but not if you want to say build a cue of 4 or 5 then sit back and listen. Sending a second song to the party shuffle replaces the first one sent there. There should be some sort of temporary cue you can build with a simple click. And it would be even better if iPods had the same feature, where some button combo told it to play whatever song as soon as the current one is finished. I find it really annoying, especially when driving, to navigate to a song, then have to wait for the first one to end, then navigate back to select the next one while some song I don't wants starts up.
There was once some sort plug in that supposedly did it, but when I tried it it didn't work. I think it was for like iTunes 4 and didn't work even with iTunes 6.

  • Add the "play next" feature. (Adding chosen lists of songs to any playlist already playing)

Hello, I'm new to spotify and didn't find any duplicates for this idea. Sorry if I'm wrong. Even though I'm new to Spotify, I've used several streaming services already (grooveshark, google play, winamp, etc.) And they all shared a very dear feature to me which I'll call "Play Next" in lack of a better name. The feature is pretty basic and useful: Choosing the song which will play next, before whichever song that was meant to play. There you are, listening to your randomized playlist and you just want to hear a song, or a few songs (either from the playlist itself or not), but you don't necessarily want to stop your playlist from playing. Being new to spotify, I don't know what to do in this situation, I have to click the song and then re-randomize the songs again? Anyhow, I believe it would be a nice addition to the service if you could manipulate the list's order while playing. Then we would be able to listen to any songs we like whenever we like and keep listening to the random songs afterwards. Sorry for any bad english.

Hey there and welcome to the community!
Have you tried to 'Queue' a song? On desktop just right-click a song you want to listen to and choose 'Queue'. Then it will play after the current song. Once that song has been played, your playlist will continue normally. You can access the Play Queue when clicking on the bottom right 3 vertical lines icon.
Was that what you're looking for? ;)

  • Suggestion: Play Next Function

Hi everyone, I had an idea earlier about a play-next feature. where you could select a song from a different album than the one you are currently playing, function-click or right click a song and click play next.
Simple idea. I just thought it would be very very useful to me and many other's. Hope you all agree.

  • Play Next on iPhone

    Hi all,
in iTunes for Windows, there is a feature which allows to add songs for playing next. As well, I recognized this functionality in the Remote App for iOS when I am playing songs via Home Share. It's possible to add songs to "Play Next".
Nevertheless I didn't recognize this feature when I am using the standard music app on my iPhone? Does such a feature exist?
    Thanks!

From what i've read & experienced, no this feature doesn't exist.  Apparently it used to exist on the very first iPod with the ability to create a playlist called "on the go".  That actually let you add song by holding the select button directly from the library.
I would say the work around until they get with it & add to current iDevices is the ability to create playlists on the device.  Not nearly as easy / intuitive as "up next" feature, as you have to go back to the playlist to edit & cannot add a song directly from the library.
Under "playlists" use the "new playlist" option.

  • HT1947 "Up next" feature makes a mess out of controlling what the heck is played using the iOS remote app.

Tell me if I am wrong, but it seems to me that the "Up next" feature makes a mess out of controlling what the heck is played through the Apple TV using the iOS remote app.  The whole thing seem uber-anti-intuitive.  I am a long time user (as much and anyone is long time for any of this stuff) of the iOS remote app, and ATV to play music though a stereo system.  Up to a couple of weeks ago, I could sit in my chair, start the iPhone remote app, pick a playlist and either start from the beginning, or if the first track didn't grab me at that moment, go ahead and switch to, say, track 6 -- the whole playlist would "sit there" and be available for further browsing.  With the new system, if I hit a playlist the songs will go into "Up Next".  If as I described in the last sentence, the first song is not getting it for me, and I switch to track 6 , the "Up Next" list is lopped off and only tracks 7 onward will be shown.  I can't go back and browse the first 5 tracks (6 actually) -- they're vaporized.  The idea of browsing your own music has been killed; I guess this "Up Next" concept is for folks who like maybe a couple of dozen songs that are picked from different places and want to play them in different orders of something -- it just seems like a crummy idea.  If under the scenario I described I want to go back and play that first (or second through fifth) song on the original playlist, I have to go out and fish it out of the library somehow and just keep messing around and around.  There have been times when I didn't know what the heck was going to come out of the speakers.  It seems like the remote user has not been considered in the "dramatically improved" iTunes 11", with the "cleaner user interface" .  To me it is "dramatically akin to dog-doo", which, of course is not cleaner than much of anything.  If I can't get this working decently, then I'm really thinking of investigating some other type of system like DLNA.  Any suggestions?

Same problem here.  I have so many problems with this remote app.  Is there an iTunes API? I would like to write my own remote app that actually works.

  • Play next song feature

Listening on PC using itunes, is there a play next song feature where you can select the next song to be played?

Not really. Best you can do is make a playlist and play from that.

  • IPhone 3G, Starbucks and "What's playing now" feature?

Whatever happened to the Starbucks "What's playing now" feature in iTunes?
I was at the BolingBrook, IL StarBucks, liked what I was listening to, pulled out my iPhone, tapped iTunes...and nothing.
Went to their website and did a search in the AppStore also...but nothing.
Did that feature "go away" or was I at a "non" participating StarBucks?
I was connected through ATT's Wifi hotspot there.
    Thanks.

I think Starbucks my have lost interest. I no longer see it at several locations where it used to work.

  • How to play videos on lockscreen of iphone 5s?

Well i have been using iphone 5s from the very first week it was launched. I am a techy and I played alot with android devices but this time i switched to iphone.
This is a very unfortunate to say that iphone is missing such a common feature.
when I play any video and  i lock down my phone, I get a proper widget to play, next and previous song selection along with the video thumbnail where it was last paused.
But when I click those buttons, nothing happens.
I mean if video playback is not supported during lockscreen then why it is giving us that widget just like in case of audio playback where that widget is working perfectly fine.
I am looking for an appropriate technical answer for this from you guys..

Hi diesel, Thanks for your response. Yes, I have "reset, restarted, and restored." Twice! The new phone is perfectly clean acting just like the brand new one I got from Verizon. Remember it works for a minute or so then quits. Its like the circut gets hot, then quits. We are an iPhone family - three iPhone 4's and 1 iPhone 4S and 3 iPads ( 1-iPad first generation and 2 iPad 3's). Remember its just the last two models that stream video to a TV.
The HDMI dock is made by J-Tech Digital. Its made for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod. Also, remember that both our iPhone 4 works perfectly with this dock. Plays for hours, no hickups, blinks, droped sound or video.
So my thoughts are this is a 4S defect and I need to move back to the iPhone 4 to get the video-to-TV to work reliably.

  • Nano 6G: When I play next song, an extremely loud sound will play for 0.3 sec.

I am extremely annoyned to the fact that when I play music on my iPod Nano 6G (The small one with touch feature), I will play next song by double clicking sleep button then suddenly an an EXTREMELY LOUD DEADLY SOUND will play as if the iPod wants to kill my eardrums. This happens in 1:500 ratio I guess. Did anyone experience this before? I tried playing the song with iTunes, Media Player and other players then I click NEXT to try if it happens but not.

Oh sorry - just answered my own question - somehow the songs were marked "Skip on shuffle" (went to "Get Info" for all songs, under Options....not sure how they got marked that way, but the issue seems to be resolved on both Mac and iPhone....

  • Up Next feature on iOS devices

I've noticed how on my iTunes library on my iMac I can do "play next" for songs and "add to up next". I feel like my iPhone and iPad are fully capable of this feature because they have it in the remote application when controlling the iTunes library on my iMac. Am I just missing out and it is already available, or am I the only one who truly wants this feature for my mobile devices and it's not real?

I can´t belive that no one here is running a Mail server on Lion server that is accessable with imap using iOS devices!  Is mail server on Lion really that bad?

  • Select a song to play next (after current song)

I love iTunes, but for me it's just missing one thing....
I can't (at least I don't know how) select a certain song from my playlist to play AFTER the current song is finished... If it would have that function, or a way to do this, it would be ALL I need for a music player.
Is there a way in iTunes to select the song to play next?
And/or arrange your playlist in the way (the order of songs) you want?

*Is there a way in iTunes to select the song to play next?*
iTunes doesn't have the "queuing" option you describe (except within the Party shuffle function which queues songs and within which you can drag songs into order). If you'd like to see an option like this in some futer version of iTunes you can send feedback/feature requests directly to Apple at this link: Apple Product Feedback
*And/or arrange your playlist in the way (the order of songs) you want?*
Open the playlist and click on the number column (extreme left). Click on the song you want to move, hold down the mouse button and drag the song to where you want it to be. Make sure neither Shuffle or Repeat are switched on in the playlist, either of those can prevent you reordering tracks.
