Play out to firewire massive audio distorition

the subject says it all.
when I play the timeline out the comupter speakers, everything is OK.
when I play thru the firewire port so I can see the video on and NTSC monitor or so I can make a DVCam or VHS print, I get MASSIVE AUDIO DISTORTION.
Never had this one before.
I have head that itunes for widows comes with a worm the effects audio and video of PC's. Could the boneheads (for lack of another word) have made a strain that effects Mac now too.
Itunes v6 upgrade and the addition of a Lecitech USB mic are the only possible variables in the equation.
what could be causing the massive audio distortion thru the Firewire port.
thanks.

Do you have another way to monitor the audio thats being sent thru the FW output other than the way you are now? Maybe it's the external monitoring that's pumping up the audio somehow? Also check that the master output levels in the audio mixer are not causing this too...

  • No play out fhru firewire

Hi folks. I'm really pulling my hair out on this one. I've just had a whole pile of problems trying to use an external firewire drive to capture video. Now I have reverted to an internal drive. I can capture, and also "print to video", but can't get any playback from the viewer, canvas, or timeline thru the firewire to the deck/monitor. Is it possible I have damaged the FW ports by using an external FW drive? Would it still "print to video" if it was damaged? It is very hard to edit with this problem. Any suggestions would be a big help. Thanks. FCP HD 4.5.

I seem to have solved the issue for now, by trashing the prefs... I'll keep my fingers crossed!

  • No audio out to firewire

I have a 1.5 hour time line of a dance recital. In one dance there is a 2 second part where I get no sound out to my firewire deck.
The FCP VU meter shows activity between -12 and -6 db during the silence.
There is nothing funny in the waveform
If I use "built in audio" (though imac sound), I get sound.
If I put the audio into the viewer and view / play the audio with no video playing, I get sound from firewire out.
I installed all of the latest updates.
    Any ideas anyone???
    Thanks

    Hi -
Go to where the missing two seconds are and back up two seconds. Place an in point there (two seconds before the strange audio disappearance). Now go two seconds past where the audio drops out, and place an out point.
Go to the menu File>Export>Quicktime Movie.
In the widow that opens give the clip a name like Audio Repair.
    For the Setting: Current Setting
    For Include: Audio Only
    For Markers: None
and check the box Make Movie Self Contained.
Save that file to your desktop.
Once the file is saved, go to your desktop and open the file with Quicktime Player. Can you hear the entire audio track, including the "missing:" two seconds?
If you can, then import that file you created into your project, and edit it where you have your in and out marks placed.
Now try and see if this section will play out the firewire correctly.
    Hope this helps.

  • Losing audio on long play out to tape

FCP 4. I am playing out a 2 hour long project in two chunks onto two 63 minute Mini DV tapes on a Sony camcorder. After about 30 minutes into the first play out the audio starts coming in and out, then halfway through the second chunk it goes altogether and doesn't come back.
    Any thoughts?

Hello Ned, and welcome to the Forums,
Are your media drives all nice and clean and tidy? Are they getting very full? Are they Firewire drives? 400 or 800? This sounds like the drives aren't quite able to keep up with the layoff...
One other note - have you upgraded your FCP 4 as much as it can go? IIRC FCP 4.5 HD was a free upgrade to FCP 4, and was quite a bit more stable.

  • How do I get the Apple tv to play out of my Bose speakers that has the typical white and red plug ins?  Do I need an "optical audio" cord (that is what is available as a plug in on the back of the Apple tv that has the red and the white on the other side?

How do I get my speakers to play the Apple TV?  My TV is recognizing the Apple TV and the sound is playing out of the TV speakers, but even though I plug my speakers into my TV, it does not play what the TV speakers are playing.  Do I have to plg the speakers into the actual Apple TV unit?  If so, do I need an "optical audio" plug in?

appletv play audio out of optical out of hdmi and the old alu one play out the RCA too
the typical the white and red plug ins would be RCA if you have a atv2 (the black one) you cant use
RCA as that is analog and optical and hdmi are digital
you can get converters but some would be pricy and could cause delay between image and pictures for video

  • Need Audio help!  Interview audio won't play out to tape.

My voiceover and Soundtrack audio sounds great, but my interviews sound terrible when I play out to DV to record to the camera.
I checked the item properties and noticed that all the good audio is at 44.1khz while the "bad" audio is at 48khz.
What can I do to make this play out?
    Thanks!

    Hi(Bonjour)!
What is the sequence's audio format? It should be 48 kHz as it's standard in video editing software.
Did you capture audio interview from camcorder? What is the audio sampling format in audio menu? (32 or 48 kHz, 12 or 16 bit?)
The audio mixdown render may resolve this problem but it's always a good thing to resample each audio file to match the sequence sample rate:48 kHz.

  • I now need sound switch up for audio to play out

    Hello bkarschnick,
Thanks for contacting Apple Support Communities.
Your computer may not supply audio via the Mini DisplayPort. Take a look at this article for your compute and find out if it supplies  audio.

  • Output to firewire = distorted audio

    the subject says it all.
If I play the timeline out my computer, everything is fine.
If I play out to the firewire port, the audio is massively distorted and after a few seconds the video stops playing.
I play into my DSR-20 deck and my VX-2000 camera and get the same results. This happened out of the blue, don't you just hate that.
I reinstalled FCP 4.5 and still get the same results.
I hope this is NOT 10.4.2 related.
still......I have to get this project out of the computer.

don't know the answer directly but basic troubleshooting process would be:
    Has this ever worked?
If yes, have you changed any settings on the deck since the last time you did this or changed any software since the last time you successfully worked with the equipement?
If yes, then start with that.
If no, does it work with other projects? Does it not work only with this one?
It might be QT7 related. Since you can't control the audio in the firewire stream directly, there has to be something happening in the way it is being sent out or the way it is being processed at the other end. Since QT is the underlying engine for all of this a/v shiftyness, it could be a funky installation.
    good luck.

  • Playing out to video monitor

Hi. I'm running FCP 4.5HD, and currently using dual Apple Cinema Displays. I use 2 Sony HDV decks, which connect to a Panasonic HDTV as my video monitor. When I capture or when I mix down to video or tape, the video plays on both the HDTV and on my displays. However, I am not getting a signal through the deck to the HDTV when playing clips or sequences within FCP. I have my video out set to Apple Firewire.
How can I get the video to playout to the deck and monitor all the time?
    Thanks,
    Cesare

If it is all DV, then...
    #8 External Monitor Viewing.
Shane's Stock Answer #8: External Monitor Viewing
If you are working with DV, this is simple. First connect your computer to a camera or deck via firewire, Then connect the camera/deck to your TV/monitor via RCA or S-Video.
Then start up your camera and TV, then open FCP.
Go to the View Menu, choose > External Video > All Frames
VIEW>Video Playback should be “Apple Firewire NTSC” (If you are using an NTSC set)
VIEW>Audio playback should be “Audio follows Video”
Technically, this should send synched video to your TV
If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
    1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
    2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
    3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
    4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
    5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
    6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the A/V DEVICES tab.
If you are working with HDV footage, FCP 6 allows you to view this via firewire, but ONLY as downconverted DV. It won't look the best, but you can see it. To do this,
If you need to view any format other than DV at full resolution, then you need to look into capture cards. Several standard definition and high definition models are available from www.aja.com and www.decklink.com. With these options you'll need a proper monitor to view full broadcast colors, but all models allow for realtime standard definition downconvert, allowing you to view HD on an SD monitor.
The Matrox MXO is another option that is output only, but allows you to view your footage on an Apple Cinema Display at full broadcast quality.

  • Can't play out to DV/tape

Hi, recently splashed out on FCP and a new MacBook Pro after a year or so of FCE on an identically spec'd MacBook Pro. However, I'm having a problem when I try to save my work down to tape using FCP.
I have a Sony DV machine as my output (recording to minDV tape) but no matter what I seem to try, when I play the timeline in FCP it doesn't play on the output - it shows only a still of the frame. I've tried just playing direct from the timeline, I've tried the Print to Tape option, but still can't see the output playing on the DV machine - just a still frame.
However, if I do exactly the same on FCE using the same DV equipment, all works perfectly well and I can see the playing movie on the DV machine and record to tape.
    I'm baffled! Any help appreciated.

  • Error with viewing out of Firewire (hard to explain in 1 line)

I am editing on an iMac with FCP 5.1. For capturing I have my DV camera running into one of the firewire ports and my external drive running into the other firewire port which I am capturing to. This works great
However while I am editing I view the screen on a TV plugged into the output of the camera so the video streams from FCP into the camera and out into the tv. However this is having issues with not displaying the video properly and just getting black bars in footage when trying to stream footage. It looks fine on the computer but its not streaming out to the camera properly. Now I realise that the iMac has only one firewire bus but I thought that if it captures fine streaming both signals at once then the reverse should also work. Any ideas?

  • Firewire dropping audio

Mac Mini i7 16GB ram 500GB ss hd
    Mavericks 10.9.2
    Logic Pro X 10.0.6
Firewire out to Mackie 1640i mixing board
    Audio drops out completely...
VIrtual synths, Drums and audio files VU meters show activity
External synths keep playing with audio (they're external)
But everything IN THE BOX is silent - no audio out via firewire.
A restart of Logic will clear it - but after a while (and several restarts of Logic) I have to reboot the Mac.
This did not happen prior to upgrading to Mavericks- everything worked perfectly.
I've read on other boards people are having trouble with firewire and other audio devices.
    Any help? Suggestions?

Mackie have not released 10.9 (Mavericks) compatible drivers... which is probably why you are having such an issue.
You can downgrade back to to your previous OS X configuration (You did make full backups before you upgraded to Mavericks, yes?) .. or wait to see when/if Mackie update their drivers... and based on past history.. it may well be more of a case of if rather than when unfortunately.

Willy, the procdedure you describe works perfectly for AppleTV G1. In fact, I frequently play DTS music discs ripped to my iTunes library as Apple Lossless (ALAC) and synched to the ATV. What happens is that, as far as iTunes and the ATV are concerned, a conventional stereo 16/44 audio file is being played; however my reciever detects the DTS data stream, and instead of outputting static, it decodes the 5.1 channels correctly. This process parallels the way DTS discs were designed to be played back: a conventional CD player is connceted, via digital out, to a DTS-aware reciever/pre-amp and the two channels of static are recognized as 6 channels of DTS-encoded audio.
However this process will only work if the player (CD, ATV, PC, etc.) sends a "bit-perfect" 16 bit/44.1 khz data stream to the decoding device. In the case of ATV G2 and G3, as has been discussed elsewhere, the unit resmaples all audio - including 16/44 PCM (Redbook CD)  - to 16/48. While this is not a big deal for conventional audio CDs, MP3s, and AAC files, it mangles the fragile DTS datastream and renders it undecodable. The resulting static that you hear is just like the static you would hear if you played a DTS CD on a non-DTS capable system.
Sadly, I'm not aware of any easy way around this. You could use a program like Foobar (and the DTS plugin) to convert your DTS CDs to 6-ch .wav or .flac file. From there you could transcode the file to AC-3 and then mux it into a video container that ATV supports. You may need add a dummy video track, for iTunes/AppleTV to be ok with the file, though I'm not sure. This may be a lot of work.
Sorry for the bad news. I wish that the iTunes/ATV ecosystem had better multi-channel audio support.

Why, after three months of apple tv working perfectly fine, is it now cutting out constantly and the audio and video out of sinc?

Playing rentals, Netflix, from local iTunes, other?
Firstly restart router and AppleTv after unpowering to see if that helps - may or may not but quick and easy to try.
Connection via ethernet or wifi?  If wifi are there any new devices in the house which may be causing interference or new neighbouring networks?  If feasible try to eliminate wifi issues by using an ethernet connection.

  • Timed video out through firewire?

    Hey everyone,
In Final Cut Pro 5, is there a way to set print to video on a timer? For example, print to video on Friday at 2PM.... Or simply, just play the entire video in the timeline at a specific time?
I'm assuming not, so does anyone know of any program out there that can play Quicktime videos out through Firewire on some kind of timer system?
I know this is an unusual request... and I can explain why exactly I want this if anybody wants me to, but it's kind of a long story =)
    Any suggestions would be great!
    Thanks,
    Dean.

You can easily set up an Automator script to work with an iCal event...
use the script for PLAY MOVIE instead of record new video that I used here:
    http://homepage.mac.com/captmench/QTAuto.swf
The video was done in haste... and there are a few errors in it... but you'll get an idea of what to do.
    Good luck,
