Play videos stored in KM folders

Hi Everyone,
My requirement is to play videos stored in KM folders. When clicked on any video it gives the option to open and save and in either case it takes lot of time to play the video on portal.
Is their any way to reduce the time taken for playing videos.

Hi Namrata,
I would suggest that the media server hosts the video content and that you merely provide a link or you could even embed it like a you tube video on a portal page. The key thing is that the media server is responsible for delivering the content to the user and not the SAP Portal.

Just remmember that video files tend to be large and if you intend to deliver the video to many users then you will really need a media server and not the portal to do this. Basically video can either be streamed or downloaded in full then viewed. Both methods have pros and cons, SAP KM to deliver video is very tough and pain full for many users.

It is easy for programming but hard for future DB management. I want t o improve my design by storing video in DB column. I know it is not hard to do in Oracle. But I have to insist on using mySQL.

Windows Vista, Wont Play Videos

SATA = "Serial ATA." ATA is the standard that has been used for most PC disk drives for many years. Up until a few years ago, most PC disk drives were what is now called "Parallel ATA," or PATA for short. This is being replaced by the more modern "Serial ATA," or SATA.

For some reason, iTunes has problems playing videos stored on SATA drives, but not on other types of drives. No one has been able to determine yet why this is.
The "bypass" you ask for is storing your videos on PATA drives, or on networked drives, or even flash drives (e.g., USB sticks). That may not be an option for you, as it will not be for most people who buy off-the-shelf PCs.
The bottom line is that you shouldn't have to know what type of disk drive is in your system. Regardless of the type, it should just work. Unfortunately for some reason that does not appear to be the case with SATA drives and iTunes.
Apple is at least aware of the problem, but that has not been publicly acknowledged nor has there been any word as to when it might be fixed.

Can Apple TV play videos on TV from NAS Drive?

I have a problem playing transferred home movies on a flat screen tv through the “TV Out” feature of my Iphone 4.
I have captured about a TB worth of various home movie videos from VHS tape to my PC hard drive. I then converted these AVI files to M4V to play on Iphone & Itunes. I then copied these M4V video files to a Western Digital “My Book Live” NAS Drive which allows me to view any video using my Iphone, via a WD app, without using Iphone internal memory.
The problem is that I cannot play these videos through “TV Out” on my Iphone when connected to a flat screen TV. Apple techs told me that TV Out is only good with videos recorded from Iphone and stored in the internal memory of Iphone.
So my questions are:
1- Can I access my NAS drive (which has all videos stored) and play those videos on flat screen TV using Apple TV and Air Play?
2- Does Apple TV only play videos stored on the internal memory of Apple products (Iphone, Ipad, Itunes) or will Apple TV mirrior my NAS Drive videos, via Iphone app, onto the TV?
Any advice is greatly appreciated .

Good news; you can access Movie files directly from a NAS without using iTunes.
Well, at least I can...
I have a WD MyBook Live Duo NAS. I also have an iPad/iPhone app for to access this NAS (WD 2go Pro).
From my iPad I connect with the NAS, select a movie to play, and stream it to my Apple TV (I think the WD app uses the standard iOS videoplayer, so streaming to AppleTV is supported).
That's all there is to it.
The movies stored on the WD Nas are in .m4v format (MP4) and placed in a share that is capable of streaming (DLNA). Most modern NAS devices let you set up one or more 'shares' for streaming.
I keep my iTunes Library only for music and apps, and is not stored on my NAS.
So I play movies without iTunes and from my NAS.
I don't know how all this technically works, but it works. I can even use the Apple TV remote-control to pause and play the movie, without using the iPad again.
Maybe you should check if your NAS has an accompanying App for smartphone and/or tablet, and trie it out.
p.s.: In my situation it only works with my iPad. I've tried my iPhone, but the WD App crashes as soon as I try to play a movie.

YES! it works! I am using the Stora as my central file repository for streaming via Upnp-AV or file access together with MLPlayer lite and FileBrowser apps respectively. ipad plays .mp4 video files only, though. So, videos must be specially prepared for being smoothly played through streaming directly from the Stora unless the videos are already ipad optimized.

How do I play QuickTime videos stored in iTunes 11?

I have several older videos stored in my iTunes, which is now version 11.1.4. When I try to play them, I get an error message that says QuickTime is no longer supported by this version of iTunes. The only Apple Support article I've found on this issue tells me to download QuickTime, but when I follow the link, Apple tells me that I have the current version of QuickTime in my OS (10.7.5). Seems like a feedback loop, and I'm frustrated. Anyone got a solution?

Playing a video on a 4400 DMP using HTML and video stored on webserver?

I've created a PHP script to allow our users to mange their own content make their own playlists without them having to use our DMM. The script gets inputs from them for things like images and URL's and how long it will display those items. It then writes another PHP file which I set as the lone playlist item in the DMM. This way they can make changes at will with no chance of breaking anything in the DMM. The script basically just rotates their images and scripts by changing the inner.html of the body on the page. I have URL's and images working fine. I need to get videos working in the same manner. This means I need to be able to point to an HTML file on our webserver that plays a video that is also stored on that webserver. I thought I'd found a solution but there's one problem I can't get around. There are some references to playing through a javascript library tivella.js . The problem is that every reference I find seems to that script shows the DMP accessing it internally <src="tivella/tvzilla/js/tivella.js"> Is there a way for an external HTML file to reference this js file? Is there a way to copy that JS file to my web server? Are there any other options to play a video through HTML vs. as a playlist item on the DMM?

Not sure if the larger subset audience over here have tried what you are trying to configure but have looked at
https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-14752, This document has a Java script/HTML code that allows you to play content stored locally on the DMP storage. May be you can utilize the code there and reference the local video URL with your HTTP URL.
Also the tivella is a Web browser in the DMP it will render the Web content fine but you may want to utilize the media player function for displaying the video - just a thought.

There are several apps in the App Store. Look at them to see what might meet your needs. There is a keynote app that might be best for you.

So i have had a itunes set up on my old PC, bought a NAS and copied the folders over to the NAS, i did this incorrectly and so then even when i told the old PC to use that folder it saw all the songs but wasnt able to play the songs as it was looking in the incorrect place.
So now i want my Mac as well as my PC and others to all use the music, videos etc on the NAS they are in itunes friendly folders (as they were compiled this way by the itunes on the old PC.
When i tell the mac to use the itunes library.itl file it sees the song list (about 100gb) but cant see any songs, so i have removed this file to another location for now with the hope to set up a new file and then get it to see the songs on the folder from the NAS.
Can someone tell me how to do this for all the Mac's and PC's on my network as i really want one master library that all use and add too.

ITunes freezes when playing video.

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Let me start by saying I've seen many others complain about this with mostly no resolution.
To elaborate, when initiating any video in iTunes (be it a movie, TV show, music video, or iTunes Store preview), the application immediately hangs. No errors -- iTunes just stops responding and can only be closed by killing its process. I've tried all the solutions people hash out time and again to no avail. This has been happening since iTunes 10, and ever since I've been playing all its videos through QuickTime (which works perfectly).
In Safe Mode, however, a black box appears briefly (as if the video's about to play), before a Windows "iTunes has stopped responding" prompt comes up. Not only that, but I also get two error logs in Event Viewer:

I don't know how helpful these logs are, but I've never seen anyone post anything similar when reporting this issue. Microsoft's link in the second one's header tells you to install a "newer" version of iTunes 64-bit even if you have the newest one (and I've done it with no improvement). In one post, iTunes wouldn't play video for somebody until they were told to uninstall Klite Codec Pack. This was the only time I came across this suggestion, and, having Klite, did it too, but with no improvement. iTunes still hangs when trying to play video, it crashes "properly" with a Windows prompt when trying to play video in Safe Mode, and QuickTime works fine (which I guess is my only solution).
Some insight from Apple would be appreciated. This has been happening since iTunes 10, so I consider the problem to be on iTunes' end rather than my system's, which has by and large been a constant the whole time.

Codec packs are notorious for causing iTunes problems.
Try searching c:\windows\SysWOW64 for files with Quicktime in the name.
There should be just two:
Quicktime.qts
QuicktimeVR.qtx
If there are any other files or folders, try dragging them to the desktop ot any temporary folder.
Does that make any difference.
After doing that, do you have the latest Quicktime installed, if not update it.

You have two choices to try & fix this: 1. Backup your phone, then restore as a new device, then restore from the backup you first created, or 2. Follow the advise from this poster:
I had the same problem with the black blocks after upgrading to iOS4 on my iPhone. The reason for the black blocks is that the thumbnail images for those particular images have not been created when the Photo Library has been updated to iOS4. I followed the advice on a couple of blogs and fixed the problem.
1. I downloaded iPhone Explorer free software (http://www.macroplant.com/iphoneexplorer/) so I could view the photo data folders on my phone. I could see that the thumbnail images were missing.
2. I followed a slight variation on the instructions on this blog. (http://blog.mbentley.net/2010/06/iphone-ios-4-upgrade-restore-lost-pictures-in-c amera-roll/)
3. First I copied the Photo Data folder by dragging it from the iPhone Explorer window to my Mac desktop.
4. Through iPhone Explorer I deleted the info.plist file in the Media/PhotoData/MISC folder.
5. I also deleted the Photos.sqlite and PhotosAux.sqlite files in Media/PhotoData.
6. I then rebooted the phone and launched the Photo Library.
7. The Library rebuilt it's self again and recreated the thumbnails.
8. The problem was fixed!!! Thank you M Bentley!

How do I Play videos from external hard drive on Apple TV2? Can I just move the iTunes Library to the External Hard Drive?

I have several HD videos stored on an external hard drive and would like to bring them into iTunes and play them via iTunes on my Apple TV2, but I am not sure how to go about it. I don't want to store the movies on my iMac hard drive because it would eat up to much space...so do I just move the iTunes Library to the external hard drive? And, if so...will the Apple TV2 find the iTunes Library on the external hard drive? Thanks for any help anyone can suggest.

iTunes content on an external drive isn't a problem.
The simplest method is to just move your library to an external drive.
If you wanted to keep just movies on an external drive, that's a little more difficult. You'd need to put the movies where you want them to reside on the external drive and add drag and drop them onto iTunes while holding down the option key. Obviously any movies already in iTunes would need moving from their current location and removing from iTunes first.

How to play video on single DMP 4400G

We have bought Cisco DMP 4400G, and want to play on it video files witch are stored on PC.
DMP is installed, and we have IP and access to them.
We don’t have any Management system.
Does it possible to play video file on DMP located on some PC or server on LAN or not.
If not, how to store video file on internal storage and play it?
Can anybody help?

Quicktime, Quicktime Pro and iTunes don't convert "muxed" ( muxed means multiplexed where the audio and video are stored on the same track) video files properly. It only plays the video and not the audio.
See:iPod plays video but not audio.
You need a 3rd party converter to convert the file with both audio and video.
Videora is one, and there are others.
