Playback abruptly stops when I sample tunes.

I have a MacBook Pro and an iMac with up-to-date software. Just in the last few days, I have noticed that playback abruptly stops on quite a few tunes when I sample them in iTunes. They don't stop in the same place. It could be after 8 seconds or 15 or 23, but playback stops on both computers. I have disconnected my modem and Airport Expresses and reconnected them with no results. Is anyone else having this problem and, if so, do you have any ideas on correcting this?

I feel this should be something the editor can disable. For example have a button on the toolbar that can be pressed that will allow playback to continue when switching away from PPro. Only if the editor experiences problems should the necessity arise to release the button causing PPro to use its current behaviour.
Cheers
Eddie

  • Audio clicks when playback is stopped.

In the process of recording a couple of bass guitars that were Keymapped into sampler instruments, I noticed some strange audio behavior. While playing the new sampler instruments, finger lift off from my MIDI guitar controller was causing a clicking or sucking sound each and every time. (The recorded notes in Logic were allowed to decay naturally and the samples were not looped.)
So I went to the recording in Logic and sure enough, hitting the space bar or numerical decimal would elicit a click when stopping playback. A quick test recording was completed in Digital Performer with the same result. Also a quick test in Logic with the smallest and largest i/O settings. Same problem.
Recording signal into the Mac via Built-in Line input also produces the same clicking. So that removes suspicion for my interface (828mkll with Black Lion mod) which has been a rock-solid performer.
I have 5 GB of Ram. OSX10.5.5, 7200 RPM sata drives, etc.
Is this some sort of core audio issue?
    What to do???

Ok, I recorded each bass chromatically into Logic in real time (not triggering samples via MIDI).
The resulting audio files were opened in Keymap to be converted to an EXS24 sampler instruments.
The lift off clicking noise occurs with both basses but not with factory sampler instruments I play with the Godin LGX-SA.
The point about the spacebar or numerical pad decimal point is that when I use either of these to stop/start playback of the original audio file in Logic, clicking occurs. Uninterrupted audio playback is fine. Interrupted playback causes clicking which should not occur. While attempting to problem solve the funny lift off noise while playing the sampler instruments, I noticed that interrupting playback of the original recording in Logic caused clicking.
I recorded the same bass guitars into DP (not MIDI-triggered samples) through the same interface with the same clicking problem when audio file playback is stopped via the spacebar or DP keyboard commands.
So there are no MIDI messages involved here. The point of mentioning the sampler instruments is just that that was the when I noticed the audio problem. For simplicity sake, if we leave sampler instruments out of the discussion, I am still left with some sort of audio problem.
The same basses played and recorded via Built-in Line input causes the same clicking to occur during interrupted played back.
Somehow. the noise that occurs with finger release from the fretboard is related to the problem with the audio clicking when stopped during playback. Meaning that the audio file is corrupt in some way.
I followed your suggestion of unchecking both play tickboxes in the Sound Effects tab of the Sound preference. The problem still exits.
So in summary, at this time, I cannot record audio into my Mac without some sort of clicking problem when stopping playback. Audio that I record then causes some strange lift off noise or click when played as a sampler instrument. The base problem is that something goes wrong when audio is recorded into my Mac.

  • Bluetooth devices can't reconnect to iPhone 4 after some time or when A2DP playback has stopped (since iOS 5)

    Hi,
so I've had these Bluetooth issues since I updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 5. I've searched and searched and found nothing, so finally I decided to post my story here.
First of all I'd like to point out: I've tried everything! ..but more on this below.
I have a Bluetooth capable car stereo, the Sony BT2600, in my car. It works like a charm and I've been using it for listening to music via A2DP (Bluetooth Stereo Audio) since I updated my HTC Prophet to Windows Mobile 6 back in 2008. Since 2009 I've been using it with an iPhone 3G, then a 3GS, and finally with my iPhone 4, which I've owned since october 2010.
Calling worked, listening to music worked, and since iOS 3, I think, AVRCP has been working fine, too.
Now to the things that worked until before the iOS 5 update:
When I got into my car, turned on the ignition, the car stereo automatically tries to connect to the last connected device, so unless BT was disabled on the iPhone, it connected without problems and I could start music playback by pressing the Play/Pause button on the unit, without having to pull the iPhone out of my pocket.
When I got out of my car, turned the ignition, and thus, the car stereo, off, the iPhone would of course disconnect.
Here's where it becomes interesting: When I would go for another drive in my car, the head unit would reconnect to the iPhone, just as in the first point of this list.
Same when starting the car's engine, which cuts the power to the head unit for one second. It would automatically reconnect to the phone and I could press the Play/Pause button twice to resume playback.
Furthermore, when Repeat was not enabled on the iPhone's iPod application and the current album / playlist / podcast would end, the Bluetooth connection would remain active, which was good, because I would still be able to receive calls using the hands-free functionality of the Sony head unit, and I could restart playback by pressing the Play/Pause button on the latter.
My Apple aluminum Wireless Keyboard would also connect flawlessly whenever BT was enabled on the iPhone.
Also the Bluetooth tethering feature would work fine - I could just connect to it via my MacBook's Bluetooth menu, without having to do anything with the iPhone.
Since I updated to iOS 5,
my car stereo doesn't connect to the iPhone unless it's been less than a minute that I'd enabled Bluetooth on the iPhone.
    same with the keyboard.
When music playback stops (at the end of an album/playlist/podcast, with Repeat disabled), the whole Bluetooth connection is instantly lost, and can't be regained until I disable and re-enable Bluetooth on the iPhone. Which means that I can't take calls in my car after listening to an album or podcast or playlist when I forget to enable Repeat.
Whenever I have to re-start my car's engine, the connection is, in more than half of the cases, lost until disabling and re-enabling BT on the iPhone.
    Same with tethering.
    What I've tried so far:
deleted all BT devices from the iPhone's list, re-paired - nothing
rebooted, many, many times - nothing
restored to iOS 5.0.1 - nothing
hit "Reset Network Preferences" - nothing, the BT devices even stay in the list
hit "Delete All Settings" on the iPhone - nothing, BT device list still the same
restored to 5.0.1 again - nothing
restored to iOS 5.1 - nothing
restored to iOS 5.1 from DFU mode, setting up the iPhone "as new iPhone". Big step, PITA, but still - nothing. At least this has cleared the BT device list. But the issues remain. (So does the battery drain issue, by the way, but that's another story)
So. I've oficially run out of ideas. Any inspiration? Many thanks in advance.

I've noticed this lately as well, with my iPhone 4. I couldn't confidently pin it directly on any particular iOS update, but my iPhone used to automatically connect up via Bluetooth with my Prius's handsfree feature, and now it doesn't. I work with a CE-based device at my job, with Bluetooth capability, and I used to test out that feature by having it discover my iPhone. This no longer works either.
What I have found (not really a solution, but it does work and may be a clue for Apple) is that if I simply go to the Settings app then the General -> Bluetooth screen and let it sit there, it will pair right up with my car within a few seconds. Bluetooth is always on, and always says "Now Discoverable" at the bottom of the settings screen.

  • Premier CS6 Playback stops when on Windows goes to sleep

When playing out a sequence to Kipro in Premier CS6, the playback stops when the Window's Display goes to sleep. I cannot currently change this setting since our IT department controls it. Is there a way to change this in Premier or do I need to have IT give us the ability to change when the Window's display sleeps?

  • Playback Stops when Audition in background (new query on this!)

Before the 3.01 upgrade, if I was playing back a file using EMU Patchmix DSP software with and EMU 1820 M and with the Audio Driver set as E-MU ASIO, I was able to make volume setting adjustments in the EMU Patchmix DSP software while Audition 3.0 was playing back. The key was the checkmark in the "Release ASIO Drive in Background" check box. I believe that 'unchecked' was the condition in that box to allow access to other programs while Audition was playing back. Now, it doesn't matter whether the box is checked or not, Audition stops playing back whenever one clicks on a window outside the Audition window.
Please help with a response to this problem.
    James Brody

I've just been editing a photo in photoshop while playing back in Audition 3.0.1 - in other words, you seem to be experiencing a local difficulty - maybe it's to do with the Patchmix software? Does playback stop when Audition simply loses focus, never mind what else you then do (which is what you seem to be saying)?
Does the problem continue if you set the tickbox correctly, exit, and run the program again?

  • Streaming playback stops when Sy nc Macbook closes

My ATV2 has 2 machines connected to it - machine 1 is a macbook configured to sync, and machine 2 is a macbook pro configured to stream.
While playing back a streaming movie from machine 2, if I sleep or shutdown machine 1, the playback will stop completely. I have to navigate back in the ATV2 menu to the streaming shared movies to resume playback. Closing the sync computer should not affect the playback of a stream!!!!

It could have something to do with the syncing, it does the same thing if I start playing a movie with iTunes not running on machine 1, and then start iTunes. The movie stops and it goes back to the selection screen when the ATV starts syncing.
After further testing, it still quits playing the movie even if the ATV is not syncing with machine 1 when the machine goes into sleep mode.

  • Why does Playback stop when I have an external MIDI channel?

I finally have to try to sync up external gear with Mainstage 2.2.2. This time it's sending midi clock to an Akai MPK25. I set up the external midi instrument channel, set the channel's midi out to port 1 on the Akai, set the Akai to external clock. The Akai seems to pick up the tempo (mostly) but my Playback instances that start with Play action cut out after about 1 measure (yes they're set to Loop).
Doesn't mater which instance. The clock keeps going but there's a substantial lag to the transport controls. After a few seconds I can retrigger the Playback that stopped and then it loops as it should.
As soon as I delete the external midi strip, everything is back to normal. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it fixable? Maybe an Akai thing?
I've wrestled with MS to get it gig-worthy for a year and some new bug always seems to pop up.
    System:
    iMac 20" Core2Duo 2GHz, 4GB RAM

    I try 2/3 things.
    - monitor sleep after 1 minute
    - computer sleep after 3h
    - itunes playing songs
.....after a minute, monitor sleep and so does itunes....
VLC doesn't have this issu (luckyly)....

  • Canon DSLR footage immediately stops when playing back.

Our company just bought this package specifically for the native DSLR support. When we upload our footage from the DSLR, the playback immediately stops after roughly about a 1/2 second. It does this in both the source monitor and in the timeline. However it does allow you to scrub through the footage. But ironically when you try to scrub at the same speed as a playback, the playback head will stop and go back to the beginning. It is impossible to edit this way and it's very frustrating. Any thoughts on what could be going wrong?
We are shooting with a Canon t2i and have been converting them through Mpeg Streamclip in the past and editing in Final Cut.
The Premiere version is updated to 5.0.3
    I'm using an iMac OS X 10.6.4 with a 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 with 12 GB 1067 MHz DDR3.

I should also mention we have a lot of other video software on this particular machine. Here's a snapshot to give you an idea. Could it be that one of these programs are conflicting?

  • Photos abruptly stop during slide show

During slide show using apple tv either my music or the photos will abruptly stop.  Music stops if I start it from the photo slide show set-up.  The slide show stops if I set the music to play from the computer to my stereo house speakers.  Wireless connection works.  I removed the apple app from my ipad because that made the problem even worse.  I couldn't start the system as long as I had the app on my ipad or iPhone.  Any ideas how to fix?  It's driving me crazy.

    Wendy:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Can you give us a little more info on your setup: model, RAM, HD size and free space, system version, QT version, and iPhoto version. When did this start? If recently did you run any updates shortly before it happened?

  • Playback & Recording Stops

    Hi all,
First off, here is my system configuration:
    - MacOS 10.10.2
    - Audition CS6 (5.0.2 Build 5)
    - Apogee Quartet with the latest firmware and Maestro software.
When I'm recording or playing back audio, if I change to another window for a minute or two, Audition loses access to the CoreAudio driver.  This causes recording or playback to stop.  I can definitely replicate this problem when using Google Chrome at the same time as Audition.
What's happening to me has been reported many times in this forum.  Most people encountering this issue, however, are running Windows boxes, and thus have the option to keep Audition from releasing the ASIO drivers via a configuration item (a checkbox in the audio hardware screen).  It would appear that those of us on Macs don't have that luxury with the CoreAudio driver.  Is this just a case of needing the latest version of Audition?  Or is there a bug in Chrome or my audio hardware drivers that's causing this?
I'd be interested if anyone could replicate this problem.  It's driving me crazy!
    Thanks,
    Michael

Is it possible to get an ASIO driver for whatever audio interface you're using, then untick the aforementioned "release ASIO" box?  Certainly most decent interfaces offer ASIO for Apple.
From what I can find, ASIO hasn't been supported on Mac for the last decade.  Since they rolled out CoreAudio there's been no need for it.  I have found a couple old pieces of software that provide ASIO drivers for USB devices, but applications on Mac that are natively CoreAudio (which is all of them) won't be able to utilize the drivers.  So, even if I got Audition to work, none of my other applications would be able to talk to the USB audio bus, meaning that Audition would be the only application that could playback or record on my system.  Not to mention the fact that these drivers aren't installable on Intel Macs (most are compatible only with PowerPC).

  • Kinect v2 stops when leaving a RD session

    Hi,
I have a Kinect v2 running on some remote PC. When I access this PC with Remote Desktop, the Kinect stops when I leave the RD session. Both white lights on the front of the Kinect go off and no more image can be obtained from the Kinect.
I can reproduce this issue with any sample from the Kinect v2 SDK.
Funny thing is, it does not do this when using TeamViewer. It only does this when using Remote Desktop.
For now I can use TeamViewer, but once my program is deployed in the field I will be forced by my clients to use Remote Desktop so I absolutely need a solution that works with RD.
    Thank you.

So how or why would I get a different class loader?
This problem occurs when I redeploy my app, but why would Glassfish suddenly use a new classloader?
Wouldn't tomcat (my servlet environment) do the same thing when the application is redeployed? But I don't get the error in tomcat (when using the application context.ah, that explains a lot. many app servers deploy each deployment in its own classloader. they do not attempt to "reuse" classloaders for redeployed applications (each app gets it's own context, even if it is conceptually the same app). tomcat may not use separate classloaders (i've never used it directly). i know jboss does this, and i'd guess glassfish does as well. in this case, when you redeploy, your old instance from your previous deployer is still in jndi, but your deployment is in a separate classloader, so instanceof does not work.
Alternative suggestions are appreciated, but this question is primarily about why the instanceof operator is apparantly "not working" correctly. When you are working in an app server, you really do not want to do things like this (have services as static instances). this code really should be a JMX MBean, it's what they are designed for. you mbean would run within the lifecycle of your deployment and this problem would go away (you can have start() and stop() methods which would be invoked at the correct time in your deployment's lifecycle). plus, you can add methods which can be invoked externally using the JMX framework to retrieve your gathered statistics, change the behavior of the monitor, etc.

  • Application stops when tab is inactive, or application is minimized

I have an application running in browser and as air(flex3/flex4.1 + air 2.6). Now we noticed the problem that our application upload stops when the tab, in which the application is running during a browser session, becomes inactive. In the air  version similar happens when we minimize it to taskbar. Anyone has some thoughts on how to prevent that flashplayer(10.1) behavior? In both versions the calls are handled async. and the swf, of the browser version, is embeded using swfObject. I know streaming is a seperated topic, but it never appeared to me that a youtube video stoped loading while i switched tabs, so there should be a workaround.
    all the best, florian

Unfortunately, there is no way to prevent that behavior in the browser.
Does it really stop?  Or just slow down?
In AIR, you might be able to set the backgroundFrameRate in a Flex app.

  • Flash html5 - How can i make an internal movie clip slow down and stop when it get to a certain frame?

I am creating an automotive braking system using flash and have a wheel turning. I want the wheel to slow down and stop after the brake pedal is pushed at a certain frame. I know I could do this with frame by frame animation but was hoping there was a short cut - javascript?? If not the slowing down portion then is there code for just making the internal movie clip (wheel turning) to stop when it gets to a frame.? Thanks

you can use the ticker class to create a loop that you use to control the wheel's rotation or frame, TweenJS v0.6.0 API Documentation : Ticker

  • When in i-tunes 11 mac, how do i search for a song as well as a genre at the same time?

when in i-tunes 11 mac, how do i search for a song as well as a genre at the same time?

If you mean searching for a song that you already have in your Library, then you can select "Music" first. Then, go across horizontally to Genres and select that; then by using the drop-down menu found under "View" & (of course) select "View Options"-- you will be presented with a limited # of choices to sort by.
My iTunes 11.0.5 shows 4 parameters to choose from: Title, Artist, Year and Rating. Then you can sort & finally...
    Enjoy,
