Playback Control in Captivate 4 as it was in version 3

Hi!
I have some projects made using the version 3.
When publishing them in that old Captivate, the playback control (stop, pause, etc buttons) was placed inside the borders of the project, so the measures of the whole movie (swf file) wasn't being changed.
But in the Captivate 4 the additional thick lines are added automatically. So the navigation bar becomes placed on them, not inside the project. Therefore the measures (width/height) of the swf file is increased and that is unacceptable for me.
How can I configure my Captivate 4 to publish the playback control as it was in the previous version?
I mean covering the presentation, but not taking the navigation bar out.
Thanks in advance.

Hi there
Unfortunately they changed that aspect. No workaround exists that I'm aware of. About all you can do is lodge your compliaint with the development team using the Bug form. (link is in my sig)

  • Playback control actions

Hi there - can anyone help me with the playback control is
    captivate.
I have a captivate demo that i am loading into a flash movie,
via an empty movie clip on the flash time line, with a loadMovie
command in flash. What i want to be able to do is to create either
a javascript command, or some kind of action that will , upon
pressing the close button in the captivate move - a) close the
captivate swf, b) send the flash movie to a certain frame in the
    timeline, and play.
I have tried importing the captivate demo into Flash 8 - the
results are dissapointing as you lose the caption fades, mouse
movements, and strangely, the alignment of the text in the caption
boxes. I would liek to keep the smoothness of the .swf from
captivate, but also have the movie close upon the user pressing the
    close button.
    Thanks

I don't know how to solve this, but imagine the issue is
    this:
The Lectora controls likely suppose the SWF is one long
    timeline.
Captivate SWFs are movie clips in movieclips with all sorts
    of layering.
So that's likely why the Lectora controls don't work...on the
    other
hand, I've never used Lectora so maybe you can specify the
    object
    relationship they're trying to control.
The question about the audio is likely related to how an
    'event' audio
clip will not stop when the timeline is stopped and will
    likely run out
of sync. A 'streamed' audio clip will work as you expect. I
    don't know
how CP publishes the audio, but would assume 'stream'.
Best solution, unless Lectora can help, is to NOT use Lectora
    controls
on the CP SWF but use the CP controls (skin) that are
    published with the
    CP SWF by default... ?

  • Playback Control placement

Forgive me if this is a silly question, but I'm a newbie.
Is there any way to place playback controls somewhere other
than the preset options? I'd like to have my playback controls
"float" over my screen so that they are near the caption box.

    Hello fahzzy,
No sorry, you cannot float playback controls in Captivate. If
you own Flash and understand ActionScript code then you might be
able to create a custom playback control that can float over you
screen. As a starting point you might like to refer to the Flash
Playback Controls which can be located via the following path -
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate
    2\Templates\PlaybackFLA

  • Captivate 2 Playback Control Issue

    Grretings All:
I have a Captivate Project that utilizes buttons for all
navigation, so I do not need to see the playback control bar,
except I need the user to be able to use the CC button. I was able
to go into the skin control and eliminate all the other buttons,
except the Info (I) button. So right now the CC button and the Info
button are displayed. Not only is the info button unneeded it looks
bad in the design. I believe this has come up before, but I have
not been able to find the solution. Any suggestions on how to turn
off the Info button in Captivate 2?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Can Captivate 7's playback controls control Flash swf files?

    Hi folks,
I have created a swf file using Adobe Flash and I have imported it as an animation slide in Captivate 7. I have turned on the playback controls to just have the play button and the progress bar. When I export the presentation, the playback controls do not work. The scrubber moves as the presentation is playing, but I can't pause the presentation. When I stop the scrubber or even move it left or right, it does not affect the presentation and it just keeps playing. Am I doing something wrong? I don't want to have to create a custom nav bar in Flash as it would just be easier to use Captivate's playback bar.

I don't think it can be expained quickly as it can be very complicated. But...
Select New Project/Widget in Flash and choose static widget. You need to be very adept in AS3 to actually get them to work.

  • Captivate 7 event video playback controls not working

    Hi,
I'm using Captivate 7 and published an mp4 event video with limited playback controls (only play, pause, back, and close) on the slide, since the event video controls won't show up once published. When I publish the HTML5 video (with or without seamless tabbing) the controls are not working. When I click play the video plays and I can pause it, but when I want to continue play, the controls are not working.
I tried only to use the skins (clear, corona, and halo) given with the event video, but then I can't pause the video at all, since the controls are not showing.
We need the video to play in HTML5 mode for iPads and computers, but we're at a loss with the controls. The video has got to be limited to only play, pause, back, and close - no scrubbing or forwarding. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Nat

I know you will hate Captivate for this. But if you are publishing to HTML5, the skins you select here won't make any difference as HTML5 output comes with its own mysterious skin which is not visible until you publish and check.
Here is how that skin looks when viewed in Google Chrome browser on my laptop running on Windows 7.
Here is the skin I have used for that in the Captivate editor.
The best way to test these outputs is from a webserver or SCORM Cloud.

  • "Back" functionality in playback control

    Hi,
I've published my output in Captivate 3. A strange occurrence: sometimes, when I click "back" in succession in the playback control, the previous slides are displayed and sometimes the movie gets stuck on a certain slide and is unable to go backwards.
    Any explanation for this?
    Thanks, DGR

    Hi there
Just thinking about this from a logical standpoint.
You have a playhead that is in motion moving from frame to frame. Along the way it may be stopped at various places awaiting some interaction or it may suddenly be moved to a different position. So repeated (and possibly fast) clicks on the back button might possibly confuse the issue. For example, if the playhead reached a point where it was suddenly supposed to skip to a different slide and you happened to click Back to move it to the skip ahead point. I could see that causing confusion.
All this is pure speculation. But I'm wondering if it's having a play in the scenario you are listing.

  • Re-set playback controls?

I removed the Exit and Info buttons from my "Smooth" playback
controls by renaming the exit and info "smooth" bmps in Captivate's
Gallery. but then the result was that the right side of the
playback controls appeared to be "cut off"....so I modified the
image in SnagIt and saved to "smooth-preview.bmp" in the Gallery.
But I get the "cut off" image instead of the fixed image...
I've tried changing the playback settings to another playback
control, re-compiling and then changing it back to "smooth", but
    nothing works...
    Pam

    Hi Pam,
A change in the BMP images used by playback controls will not
normally be detected until you save the changes, then shut down and
restart, then change to a different style, then back - you get the
    idea?
The images that make up the playback are being kept in the CP
file, and loaded when you open the project. So closing, then
changing to a different control, then back again, will force a
    "reload", if you will.
    Best of luck!!

  • Where's the Playback Control?

I've set up a Captivate 2.0 project, set the playback control
to show Right/Center due to the layout of the software I'm
simulating. The playback control shows on the preview, and it
works, but I after I publish the project to Flash, the control is
not visible in the published version.
If anyone has any insight into why this might be happening,
    much appreciated.
    Dan

    Thanks Rick.
First, I found the deselection of borders idea (maybe your
post?) by searching for an answer before posting something
redundant. I backed up my file and published that version and still
didn't get the playback control in the published version.
Second, only getting the control when viewing output right
after publishing doesn't really work for other users, does it?
Seems like there has to be a consistent output no matter what route
    you take to viewing it.
Third, noticed your RoboWizard site note. Were you a previous
RoboDemo user? That's where I started after getting turned onto it
by a co-worker on a project where we built tutorials using
RoboHelp. At the time I was starting to build interactive training
in Flash, and as cool as Flash is, talk about labor intensive
    compared to Robo/Captivate.
Anyways, if you can offer any other avenues to explore,
please do. Otherwise I'll just keep banging away at this. Haven't
seen it before, so it has to be an Anna Molly.

  • Looking for better playback controls

When I create FLV files for web streaming directly through
    Adobe Flash, I
can take advantage of many choices of playback controls, my
    favorite one
being the ArcticExternalAll. The downside: RIPing my slide
    shows takes
    hours.
The newest version of ProShow Producer has greatly improved
    Flash export,
allowing me to create high-quality Flash files directly from
    it in a
fraction of the time -- minutes instead of hours. Its
    downside: Only a
use-it-or-not choice of one playback control, and it's a
    lousy one.
I would like to learn more about these playback controls:
    - Which file is responsible for designating the controls, the
    SWF or the
    FLV?
    - Can the user swap one control for another?
    - Can I take the external ArcticExternalAll.swf and somehow
    patch the video
    to include the control file?
    Any input is appreciated...
    Rick A.
    Pleasanton CA

I misspoke, then, or I was not specific enough. I take AVI
    files and import
them into Flash and then publish them as FLVs. That is the
    sum total of my
    experience using Flash.
However, I am an advanced computer user and a quick study, so
    if you were to
point me in the right direction, that is likely all I would
    need...

  • Create playback controls for Timeline in sync with audio?

    Hi All,
Technically, I've combined two questions into one. Firstly, can someone offer some insight on how to create playback controls for an Edge animation so the user can essentially "scrub" the timeline or navigate to a specific point on the timeline. I know you can create buttons to "sym.play()" different areas but I was wondering if there was a more streamlined solution (something similar to video playback controls.) Next, I'd like the user to be able to skip to different locations while the music remains in sync with the animations. I've created a few buttons to attempt to achieve this but the music plays independently regardless of where I jump to on the timeline.
Any help would be most appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

I had some ideas why that may be so, but then, when I thought about it, properly, i have no idea why it is that way. Maybe it is because audio has a higher priority than graphics, in OS X, but if I remember correctly, it was like this before OS X. Maybe there is an offset for latency compensation, but they made it too large. (it seems to be the same amount, no matter what the buffer size is)
just to make sure we are seeing the same thing. on my (somehat old) G4 I'm seeing about 60ms difference.

  • Frame Offset Playback Control in FCP HD Not Working

if I output my audio via firewire, it works just fine. However, I am unable to playback audio in sync via built-in audio (which sounds far better than my firewire output device).
I've gone to to my FCP System Preferences; Playback Control and it has a default offset of 4 frames. But it's still out of sync. However, if I manually offset my audio in the timeline by 4 frames, it's IN sync. I've tried various frame rates in the Playback and it never syncs, in fact it appears as though nothing is changing, no matter what I set it at.
What am I overlooking or doing wrong? It just doesn't make sense.

I'm having the same problem on capture. I'm migrating from a PowerBook 800 to an Intel Imac. I need the Keyspan Serial to USB adapter to run the 422 port on my BetaCam player. I finally got it hooked up tonight.
I grabbed a piece of video, and I'm getting two error's. First, like you, I'm 4 frames off (I'm using a Window Dub so I see the offset). Secondly, when I stop the capture I get a window telling me there is some discrepancy with my captured audio rate. When I look at the setting for the clip, all the frame rates seem to match. When I check the video, the lip sync is indeed off.
So I'm using the same Keyspan adapter I've bee using using in Panther. Now I'm in Tiger, and I have what seems to be the latest, Intel Mac Keyspan update.
But when I type in an offset number. and hit return, it doesn't "take". There is no change on the offset if I do another capture, and when I go back to the setting, it is at zero. I remember in Panther the current offset number was always visible.
Any suggestions? I'm trying to get the offset to take, so I can capture proper time code on this BetaCam dub.
    Thanks.

  • Info button on playback control

Is there any way to remove the Info button from the playback
control or remove the captivate logo from the info screen?

Hi oopsweb and welcome to our community
Can the Info button be removed? Sure! It's just an image.
    Head to the following folder:
    C:\Program
    Files\Macromedia\Captivate\Gallery\PlaybackControls
Locate files containing infobuttondown and infobuttonup that
begin with your playback control name, then rename them. This hides
them from Captivate. Note that you will probably need to edit the
image used for the last button that appears. This would provide
    that "finished" look.
The Captivate logo is another thing. There is just no easy
way around this one. Unless, of course, one of our ever helpful
Flash folks pops in with a nifty workaround.

  • Playback Controls won't work

I just installed CS4 Production Premium after upgrading my RAM to 3GB, and the playback control doesn't work. However, all of the other buttons work. The "record" button brings up the recording dialog, etc. Does anyone have any idea what is going on here?
Earlier, I was able to get a file to play, but it suddenly started looping about 1 sec of audio and the only way to shut things up was to quit Soundbooth completely.
    computer specs:
    2.8ghz P4
    3gb RAM
    plenty of HD space.

Thanks for the reply. You're right; it is Windows. I restarted a few times before I even posted the initial question, and never had any luck with playback. Record actually did work, I just had to open the file in Media Player to hear it, after forcing SoundBooth to quit (and the random looping trouble I mentioned initially). Here are the settings I have available in Record Settings:
    Device:
    SoundBooth 2.0 DirectSound (selected)
    SoundBooth 2.0 WDM Sound (unselected)
    Port:
    USB Audio codec (selected)
    C-Media WAV device (unselected)
Monitor Input during recording is checked
    Under Settings I see:
    DirectSound Output Ports:
    C-Media Wave Device
    USB Audio Codec
    DirectSound Input Ports:
    USB Audio Codec
    C-Media Wave Device
    Checked is:
    Sync Reference DirectSound Input
    Card Options Full Duplex
Now, after writing all this, I opened a WAV file I have on my computer, and tried to play it. SoundBooth crashed. I reopened SoundBooth, and opened the same WAV file & selected play. The file began looping the first second of audio, while the red timeline kept moving along, as if the rest of the file was playing correctly. I know the WAV file is not corrupt, because it's a line of dialog that I used for an animation test in Flash. I restarted again, and tried to record an old 45 record with a Numark USB turntable. It recorded fine, but upon playback, it got about 10 seconds in, when it began that 1 second loop thing again, while the timeline indicated the file was playing through. I checked the file with media player, and it's OK.
    Sorry for the long-winded post.
    Thanks for the help,
    Frank
