@Camilad
I hope you have and had a wonderful holiday.
Okay for your sound problem, it is possible that something else may have been inadvertently deleted when you disabled the Bluetooth. It is hard to say for sure.
I did find this page which is directly related to what you describe. In it is mentioned driver updates and BIOS updates.

Here also is the driver page for your notebook, where you can find those that you need.

  • No HDMI Audio, Failed to Play Test Tone, Can't Change Default Playback Device

Hello, I'm experiencing some real trouble with my HP Pavilion dv6-2160us (with the i3-330M, no dedicated graphics) Windows 7-64 bit, SP1 PC, and I would greatly appreciate some assistance.
I've created a new thread because, despite the fact that many other people have experienced a problem similar to this and have posted what worked for them, nothing has worked for me.
    The Problem(s):
My main problem is that I cannot get any audio to play from my PC to my HDMI HDTV.
When I plug my HDMI cable into my PC and TV, the TV is recognized in Playback Devices, but nothing can play to it.
When I try to test the TV in playback devices, I get a "Failed to play test tone" error.
Additionally, I'd like to mention some other odd behavior that I think may be a part of the main problem.
In Playback Devices, I cannot change anything. I can't disable or enable a device, I can't set default playback or communication devices, and I can't save changes inside device properties. Every time I try to change something, like the default playback device, nothing happens or the changes are immediately reversed.
    The Question:
How can I get audio to play over HDMI on my PC (It's not a problem with the TV, my other HP machines play audio over HDMI to it just fine.)?
    What I've Tried:
    I have tried:
Changing the default playback devices, which I'm unable to do
Running the Windows 7 Audio Playback troubleshooters from within a clean boot state
Uninstalling and reinstalling the Intel(R) Display Audio driver
Uninstalling and reinstalling the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC
Uninstalling the IDT PC Audio program from Programs and Features
Disabling the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC
    Nothing has worked.
The drivers I have are the latest issued by HP
How can I get this working? I would really appreciate some assistance.
I'm at the point where I'm ready to try pretty technically-involved suggestions, so, please feel free to post those.
    Your expertise is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • W540 no HDMI audio in playback devices

    Hello,
i am trying to get the miniDisplayport to pass audio. i have a minidisplay port to HDMI adapter, a HDMI cable and a TV that i know can recieve HDMI audio.
however, there isnt an option for HDMI/displayport in the listing of playback devices:
    what can i do?
    thanks,
    Tom

Assuming your W540 has an nVidia discrete graphics chip, the miniDP port is part of the nVidia graphics digital audio hardware, not the Realtek HD Audio analog (i.e. speakers/headphone) hardware.  Have you installed the latest nVidia drivers?
I have a W530 and not a W540, but I would think if you had the proper current nVidia drivers installed it would also have included not only the graphics driver but the HDMI audio driver as well in the package.  When you connect the TV with the miniDP->HDMI cable you should see that digital audio option available in "playback devices".
Here's my own experiment a while back, connecting my own W530's miniDP output through a miniDP->HDMI cable (I don't use and adapter + HDMI cable, I use a simple straight-through cable with miniDP at one end and HDMI at the other) to my Panny 65VT50 HDTV.  Note that the digital audio option from nVidia was checked as the default in "playback devices", and I DID get sound from my TV.
Note that on my W530 I DO NOT USE OPTIMUS!!!  I have "discrete graphics" specified in the BIOS, and the built-in Intel HD4600 graphics is NOT BEING USED AT ALL!!  The Intel graphics doesn't show up in Device Manager, nor does it show up in nVidia Control Panel.  Again... I DO NOT USE OPTIMUS.
I run strictly using the nVidia K1000M on my W530, and am using the latest nVidia retail graphics driver 340.66 downloaded from the nVidia driver site and installed with my W530 in "discrete graphics" mode. Thus the miniDP connector on the W530 is guaranteed to be controlled by the K1000M, both for external monitor/TV video as well as for external digital audio.

  • Wierd sound devices in testing/kernel26

Just installed the testing kernel and alsa devices seem messed up. There is a new entry named pcsp (the beeper) in both alsamixer & kmix, and there are no capture devices, kmix shows all the playback devices while alsamixer shows only the Master but i can't rase the sound level , i hear only sound pcps, i have managed to make master work for kde apps by putting pcps on the bottom of the list in Sound settings in systemsettings, so it works, only something is messed in the alsa configuration.
So is this valid for a bug report or should i try to manually change the settings?

  • Internal speakers not appearing in playback devices (cant play sound)

  • No Sound Device/Playback Device --At the end of my rope

First let me state that I've tried several methods to fix my problem already, and none appear to help or work, I've followed the advice given by several others, and I'm really not sure what I can do at this point. I even bought a new Soundcard thinking it would solve the problem...but it has not.
If I were to go into Device Manager right now, Windows detects TWO Audio Devices:
    Soundblaster Xi-Fi Extreme Audio
Vinyl AC '97 Codec Combo Driver (WDM)
The latter I can easily disable in BIOS on Startup, but this does not help me one bit.
I have checked my Sounds and Audio Devices:
No Audio Device/No Playback Device/Sound Recording is Soundblaster/Midi is Creative SoundFont Synth/No Voice Playback/Voice Recording is Soundblaster.
I have checked my Services (Local):
Windows Audio Service is "Started" and set to Automatic?
I have checked other media devices and get errors regarding "Direct Sound" or "Wave Out".
Regarding the programs related to my drivers, I have tried to uninstall them and reinstall them in Safe Mode but this has not helped. In particular one of the programs VIA Audiodeck (related to my onboard audio) cannot seem to find certain files to uninstall itself, aside from the fact it couldn't run when I installed it in the first place. (In part I'm looking for a free program that can uninstall stuff that can't be uninstalled the usual way).
Finally I've discovered I'm getting errors in trying to check for Windows Updates (even though I have Service Pack 3 now). Windows Automatic Updates says it's "On" but doesn't show up.
I don't really know what the root of my problem is, as I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling my drivers several times (even attempted to?clean up the registry from leftover fragments). I've used programs like Belarc Advisor and Driver Scan but these don't tell me what to do or how to proceed. I'm at my wit's end here.

  • Loss of sound due to no playback devices following an system update.

I have a Model #: 23-c055, Product #: H4A31AA#ABA.  My machine was updated over the weekend with an automatic update and now my playback devices for both video and audio are gone.  The selections within Device management are not available for selection to modify.  HELP!

    Nina, welcome to the forum.
You should go into Control Panel / Sound and check to assure that your sound device is selected as the Default.  This is most likely what has changed.  Here is how to reset the default device:
    Instructions:
1 Press the "Windows Key" and "R" keys simultaneously to load a Run box
2 Type "mmsys.cpl" and click "OK." This loads Windows Sound and Audio.
    3 Click the "Sound" tab.
4 Click the drop-down menu under "Sound Scheme" and select "Windows Default."
5 Click "Apply" and then "OK" to save the changes.

  • HDMI playback device retriveal

I have a hp pavilion elite e9120y and have accidentally deleted the hdmi playback device option in the choices.  How do i retrieve the option?

    Hi rIntsn,
I think you can get it back by doing an application/driver recovery. Here is a link to an HP Support document on how to use the driver or application recovery feature.
Just install the Audio related software and hardware drivers.

  • Hi i upgrade from lion to mountain lion to day on my mini mac,Since the upgrade i am getting no sound through my HDMI cable which was working fine on lion Checked the midi audio settings and system preferences to out on HDMi nothing no sound whats so ever

Hi i upgraded from lion to mountain lion to day on my mini mac,Since the upgrade i am no longer getting sound through my HDMI cable which was working fine on lion Checked the midi audio settings and system preferences to out on HDMi nothing no sound whats so ever.Any one any ideas?
I use a samsung TV for my monitor via HDMI.Tried all the system Audi setting nothing .Head phone and internal speakers are fine.

Similar issue; Audio was working fine on Lion, now not on Mountain Lion. Have a Macbook Pro early 2011 with AMD Radeon HD 6750M, connected by thunderbolt through a Lacie LBD to a mini-displayport to HDMI adapter (n.b. same problem when not going through the LBD) to a Pioneer VSX 521 AV receiver. For me when I go into audio Midi settings all the volume sliders for the displayport device are greyed out and at zero. But when I click 'configure speakers', it's able to send out the test signals to each speaker. Part of the problem could be that I'm not getting the option to put out 6channel sound, only 2 or 8 channel. Since my system is Dolby 5.1, and I only have 6 speakers, I would have expected the 6ch option to be available. But I imagine there's more to it than that. Elsewhere someone has suggested playing with Remote Interactive over HD on an Onkyo device; I'll see if there's something similar on the Pioneer that can be changed. Any other suggestions welcome.

  • 32DT1U HDTV: HDMI to Laptop, Sound to External Speakers?

    Hello,
I have a 32DT1U Toshiba HDTV and I am trying to connect my laptop to the TV via an HDMI cable but I want the sound to go to external speakers. Is there any way of doing this? When I have the HDMI cable connected from the laptop to the TV and a Y-cable (red/white audio rca) connected from the laptop audio jack to the external speakers the audio still comes from the TV. Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

Nevermind I found out how to do it. All I had to do was right click the volume icon in the taskbar, select Playback Devices, then set the headphone or line out to Default.

  • HDMI no tv sound

I have a dv5-1388 upgrade to Windows 7. No sound from the tv using the HDMI cable. I have looked in the sound folder in the CP and I do not have a HDMI option to click on. Now where do I go from here?? Thanks

    Hi,
Download the Chipset driver and Graphics driver on the links below and save the installers to your Desktop.
    Chipset Driver
    Intel Graphics Driver
Next, in Device Manager, open Display Adapters, right click on the Intel graphics chip and select Properties.  Click the Driver tab and then select uninstall.  When done, do the same for the for the Intel High Definition Audio HDMI and the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC found under Sound, Video and Game Controllers.
Now return to the Desktop and install the Chipset driver and then the Graphics driver.  When complete, reboot the notebook, let Windows fully load ( it should automatically reinstall the IDT driver ) and check the following.
Check in Device Manager that both the Intel Graphics and the Intel Hi Definition Audio HDMI have reinstalled successfully and whether you see the HDMI Audio option under playback devices ( found in Control Panel, Sound ).
If it shows up correctly, try the HDMI connection and see if it now functions properly.

  • Problems with Playback Device ?

Im using Skype for desktop and it doesnt make the noises when I receive a message. I tried checking if the noise all together wasn't working and when I tried called the Echo / Sound Test Service it told me there were problems with the playback device. The sound works fine on other apps it's just that it doesn't seem to work on Skype. I went on the sounds tabs in the options menu and I selected the correct device to play the sound with but it still won't work. I am using an ASUS laptop.

  • Issue: Playback devices window

    Re. Toshiba Satellite L755-S5277
Issue: No audio over HDMI cable.
Regular Toshiba W7 Home original Toshiba software re-install from HD.
Observation: Playback devices, shows only "Speakers Conexant Smartsudio HD Default Device", and nothing else.
    Questions:
    1.  Is there supposed to be anything other than "Speakers Conexant Smartsudio HD Default Device" in the Playback devices window ?  Yes / No
    2.  If yes, then what ?

     Jerry,
Your suggestion to reinstall the Intel Display driver was very helpful.
    Thank you.
In the playback window, now appears "Sharp HDMI...",
and now I have audio at the TV, but I have to disable the "Speakers Conexant..."
in order to get the sound to stop coming from the laptop,
and instead come from the TV.
Previous to the Audio problem, this was somehow happening automatically
whenever I connected the HDMI cable, now I need to manually disable the "Speakers Conexant...".
It there some configuration that would make this process automatic again ?

  • The Audio playback device HDA Intel (ALC268 Analog) doesn't work.

Every time I login to KDE through KDM, the notification gives me this message: "The Audio playback device HDA Intel (ALC268 Analog) doesn't work. Falling back to default"
Everytime I try to play an audio file, the notification gives me the same message.
But everything else such as system sound, online video work.
What can I do to make it work?
    thank you for your help

I have the same problem under the same conditions the original poster described. However, under System Settings -> Multimedia -> Device Preference I don't have default as device listed. The devices I can pick are:
    -Esound (ESD)
    -HDA Intel (STAC92xx Analog)
-HDA Intel, NVIDIA HDMI (HDMI Audio Output)
    -Jack Audio COnnection Kit.
I can also pick HDA Intel (NVIDIA HDMI) when I check  'Show advanced devices'
When I use Esound I have sound for a while, until after a random time it falls back to the underlying device, which makes sound disappear. When I use HDA Intel (STAC92xx Analog), it falls back immediately on logging in and the other choices do never fall back, but when I use them, I have no sound at all. After I loose sound when Esound falls back to another device, sometimes writing sudo /etc/rc.d/alsa restart gives sound back, but mostly I need to relog/restart the X-Server to get sound back.
Is my issue related to the original poster his problem? And how can I fix it?
