Playback hangs on cuts - 5D Mark II

Working on FCP7 on a MBP 2.4 with 4GB memory.
I've changed playback control to
RT: Safe
Video Quality: Low
Frame rate: Dynamic
Does this apply to the way FCP handles playback on the Sequence or the viewer? In the RT submenu on the sequence all I get is the "Play base layer only" (which is unchecked) and the Record to Tape options.
Working on an H.264 timeline with Canon 5D Mark II clips. I'm to play them in Viewer without a problem and on the sequence, it's going from clip to the other that causes a hiccup on clips. Thanks for any help.

H.264 is a recording and delivery format, it is an extremely difficult format to edit in (as you are finding out). You need to convert your H.264 files into a file format that can be edited such as Pro Res.
Convert your files via Compressor, then edit with the converted files.

I am having a problem with playback in Final Cut 6.0.6 of 1920x1080 60p footage.
I transcoded MTS files shot on a Sony NEX FS100 into Apple Pro Res mov files but the
playback stutters in Final Cut and QTime making it impossible to edit. Is this because the files
are just so big the computer is having a problem processing them? If so what should I edit in to preserve the
best quality?
I am Running Mac OSX 10.6.8
2x2.4 Ghz Quad Core Intel
32 GB 1066 MHz DDR3
Admittedly my FCUT is out of date, I intend to up to X when I finish off an ongoing project.

You might consider running diskwarrior on your drive (alsoft.com). And run diskutility, repair disk. A corruption of the drive could cause problems. Also, drive speed starts to fall sharply as the drive gets full. Make sure you have a minimum of 10% free space on the drive. You might also get a utility to check the speed of the drive. I think Aja has one.
Also, do you have anything else connected to the firewire bus? If so, try disconnecting it. You might also try disconnecting ethernet and turning off your airport. Resetting your fcp preferences couldn't hurt.

Video playback from Final Cut Pro studders over HDMI

I have a problem playing back video from FCP. The video output will studder during horizontal pans when I output via HDMI. The audio output is not affected.
I have been playing video successfully using FireWire for output in FCP, however, my new video switcher system will not support FireWire output.
What are some possible causes of this problem?
System stats:
* Mac Mini (2010 model)
* 8GB RAM
* OS X 10.6.4 (Snow Leopard)
* Final Cut Pro 7.0.3 (Final Cut Studio 3)

@ Studio X : The files were originally created with Final Cut Pro, rendered out to QuickTime, then are being played back with Final Cut Pro. The file that has the most noticable studdering is a 60-minute timeline sequence in Final Cut. All files are being stored and played back from the Mac Mini's internal hard drive. Everything was originally shot on DV and formatted for a 4:3 aspect ratio.
@ Shane Ross : Are there any settings in the MacOS or FCP where I can improve the HDMI video signal? Or do you know of / have any experience with Firewire to HDMI converters? Unfortunately, my new signal path relies on HDMI from the video playback.
My current setup uses the Firewire output, which is then converted to composite video & analog audio using a pair of ageing DV tape decks. That setup is becoming troublesome due to age.

Why is the playback in Final Cut Express 4 delayed by 30 seconds?

I am finding editing with Final Cut Express 4 has gotten slow and frustrating. This is a new problem. I have used this software for two years with no problems until now. I'll start out editing a project normally for about an hour. Then the playback function starts to lag. After I render a clip and try to play back what I've done by hitting the space bar, I have to look at the spinning color wheel for 30 seconds before my video will play. I have no other programs open, I have 10 GB of RAM. I upgraded my OS from Leopard to Snow Leopard a few months ago. All my Apple Software is updated. FCX has also been crashing and locking up. Is there a preferred way to save my project for more efficient editing? I also tried starting a new project with only a five minute audio mp3 clip and a 10 sec slug for video. I get the same playback delay with this project. In this case I only saved the project not "save all".

I've never unistalled and reinstalled an OS so it's a little scary for me.
I suggested uninstalling/reinstalling Final Cut Express, not the OS!
When I click on the FCE icon on my task bar to open it, which version is being opened?
Probably the one on your 1TB drive, but to be sure, you can always just open your /Applications folder on the 1TB drive and double-click the FCE application to start FCE.
Could there be a problem with a duplication of applications such as FCE on these two drives?
Highly unlikely. The system looks for applications in the /Applications folder on your startup drive, which is now your 1TB drive.
My video is 4:3 so I chose 640x480 to prevent stretching of the image.
No, you need to choose 720x480 (DV-NTSC) frame size. This is the standard 4:3 DV frame size. 640x480 is a computer monitor resolution. 720x480 is the actual, standard def, DV (television) frame size. It is 4:3. The 720 line height includes something called "overscan" which you never actually see. The image you see will be 4:3. FCE is not designed for 640x480 frame size ... do you have to render these clips after you put them in your DV-NTSC sequence?
Then after about an hour of editing, the playback delays started up again.
Well, that's bizarre, I must admit. Kinda has me stumped, except for the possibility that FCE may need to be uninstalled/reinstalled.

Gapless Playback Hanging Up

All-
I have done several searches on this, didn't find any thing conclusive. Does anyone have any insight why iTunes hangs up songs when performing the "determining gapless playback information"?
I removed the song it was originally hanging on, only to have it hang on another.
Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

I used a program called AppZapper to uninstall Itunes. It is pretty nifty for uninstalling programs in osx. You drag the item you want to uninstall into appzapper from you applications menu and it finds it and some files associated with it. When you click zap it is uninstalled. I then downloaded Itunes 7.4.2 from here.

Like I said in my previous post. I plugged in my hard drive let it run and I was still getting the spinning pin wheel. I left it over night to work through its whatever it was doing so i am not exactly sure how long it takes. Hope this helps.

Playback hang

During timeline playback, about every 20-30 seconds, the picture and audio meters hang while audio playback continues. The timeline is completely rendered and (ProRes 1080p24 media) there are no backround processes running. Activity monitor indicates FCP uses 75-110% CPU during playback on my MBP Retina 2.7 GHz w/16 GB RAM.
Any clues to what might be happening?

Deleted my prefs and now it's working. I guess some things never change!

Error in playback within Final Cut Express HD

I just bought the Apple Pro Training Series Book for FCE HD, and I opened up a lesson in which they begin showing me the basics of video editing. I begin playing the premade videos they had in the canvas, and after only one second the videos freezes and sends me an error report saying...
-Turn off unlimited RT
-Lower your compression rate
-Closing open sequences
-Lowering the preference for real-time audio
-Increasing the speed of your system and or disk drives and or network connection...
I have a relatively new MacBook Pro with 2GB's of RAM...Can someone please explain the problem to me!

Sounds to me like the files are still on the DVD training disk it came with.
Drag those files to your hard drive and try again.
FCE is trying to read the DVD's contents, which is a low speed, and so is OS X, making it slower.
It's probably a lot of hard drive space, just delete the files when you're done with them.

Audio playback in Final Cut Express 4

Captured some clips and started a sequence all was fine. rebooted the software to get around an issue where it wouldnt let me drop any transitions in which is now fine. Now however im not getting any audio playback even though i can see the audio on the VUs. Now in system setting i Audio capture in the scratch disc section is not highlighted.. This is doing my head in cant find away around it. Please help..

Ignore the greyed out "Audio Capture".
It has always been like that and you can't alter it from the scratch disk you have set for the video.

ECATT SAPGUI playback hanging..

I have just recorded some new test script using the SAPGUI driver. The recording looks good but when i play back my recording is script hang after the first command and I loose control.
I have tried many execution option but the problem still there - This is a new problem too me as I did some recording in the past with no issue.
The error do not seem to be consistent accross my multiple attempts. Sometime the script "unlock" and then process the rest of the transaction correctly.
It seems that the transition between the session manager command and the actual transaction is not going smootlhy.
Any suggestion on how to address the issue?
My gui version is 640 Patch level 14 build 782634
The sap version is: 4.70 was 620

Hi Gabriela,
just to explain that behavior:
eCATT SAPGUI recoding in 6.20 starts the GUI not directly into the transaction to be recorded. Depending on system settings transactions called SESSION_MANAGER, S000 or even other "startup-transactions" do come up first, before you enter "/n<TACODE>" in your OK-Code field. (BTW: you should avoid starting transaction to be recorded by menu path').
Unfortunatelly SAPGUI recording does also record that start transaction, but as Jon wrote, you can decomment or drop this line.
For a "perfect" transaction recording you should also active the RESET_GUI flag with 'X' in the SAPGUI command containing the real first screen of your transaction (the screen after SESSION_MANAGER). This causes eCATT to send a "/N<TA_CODE>" before starting replay. That way you can be sure to start with the right transaction.
Now the reason for your error message:
Sometimes during replay unfortunatelly the start screen is not the same as during recording. There is a certain check in SAPGUI command to avoid replay on wrong screens and that causes the message you saw.
From 6.40 on eCATT starts recording always directly in the trasaction to be recorded. You have to specify it at the "insert pattern" screen for SAPGUI recording. So screen with TA SESSION_MANAGER should not appear anymore in new recorded SAPGUI commands.

HDV playback on Final Cut Studio (5.1.2)

Does anybody know how to get an external preview using FCP Studio with a HDV cam (Sony HVR-A1E 1080i)...When I set the easy set-up to the appropriate format, it shows me "video playback: none"...and in the view option I get my camera recognised (HDV 1480/1080) but can t select it (light grey). I even downloaded FCP 5.1 s update (it mentioned fixing critical buggs and device compatibility probs) but nothing changed!
Still I can capture and print to tape, but no ways to get an external preview.....Does anyone have a clue about this hair pulling problem??

Shorten A Final Cut Pro Marked Favorite

Is there a quick way to shorten a marked favorite selection of a clip in the library? I know how to select and mark the favorite, unmark the favorite, and then select and mark a new selection as the revised favorite, but I wonder if there's a faster method to do this?

Bluetooth A2DP audio playback hangs every 5 seconds (Portege R500 VistaSP1)

Hi,
I've completely reinstalled on my new Portege R500 Vista SP1and the newest Bluetooth 6.10.10. When playing with Mediaplayer some music on a A2DP Bluetooth audio output device the music is always hanging every 5 seconds. With my mobile phone this A2DP audio device is working perfectly without problems.
I'm thinking already throwing away Vista and installing XP ...

Disabling the Microsoft Bluetooth Stack was the solution. The 2 Stacks disturbed each other. Now its working fine.
Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services and scroll down to the service called Bluetooth Support. Right-click the service, choose Properties and change the startup type from Automatic to Manual. Click OK.

Adobe Premiere playback hangs in Windows 7 (But worked in XP on same machine w/ half as much ram?)

Problem description:
Ever since I upgraded to Windows 7 on my m1210, I've been having major problems with Adobe Premiere Pro CS4. When I'm editing a video, I'm unable to play the video in the timeline - or in the program at all. High definition video plays fine with regular programs, but when the same file is run in Premiere, the audio plays, but the picture doesn't advance - or when it does it freezes on a single frame, waits 20 seconds, and then shows off another glorious single frame.
This is odd, because the computer exceeds the requirements to run Premiere, and what's more - it worked fine under windows XP with LESS ram. I don't understand what's going on here.
Attempted fixes: Tried to make sure both cores were recognized by win7 (Apparently they are) Bought more RAM (upgraded from 2 to 4gigs) Bought faster HD.
None of these things have made a difference. I still wonder if only one core is being recognized by the program but both show up under the device manager, and when I use CPUID.
Recent changes: I installed a faster hard drive (Which was my attempt to help solve the problem, as faster HD=good for video editing) and reinstalled Windows 7. Didn't change the results.
Operating system:Windows 7 32bit Ultimate Edition. (Thinking about installing 64 to see if it makes a difference.)
System specs:
Dell XPS m1210
Intel Core Duo T5600 1.83 (essentially 2.5 with both cores)
4G Ram
120gb 7200rpm HD
GeForce 7400Go

Strobe Media Playback hangs on .bootstrap

Hi. I have live HTTP Dynamic Streams played by SMP. Occasionally the player stops in buffering while requesting the bootstrap file (livestream.bootstrap) and it won't play the next fragment of the stream. Refreshing the page does not work, it still reaches tothe last fragment it had reached before. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide me.

Exporting 720p segment to use and playback in Final Cut Pro

Question for the community out there. Shooting xdcam ex-1, 720p 60fps - bring into CS3 PP on PC/windows, with Matrox boards. Edited two-three minute piece and need to export at highest quality/smallest file size to take to client using mac/mac book with FCP for him to play out for broadcast. Looking for suggestions, opinions, etc.
