Playback is go then stop then go then stop...

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but
I'll give it a shot. I recently joined an educational investment
service and they have "on-demand" classes. These are recorded
classes of live classes that are viewable after the class is
complete (so it's handy). This uses Flash 8.0 and when I click on
the link to start this, it starts for maybe 1-5 seconds and then it
stops. The one thing I've noticed is that if I move the progress
bar indicator a bit, the presentation will start up again but the
bad part is that it will play for maybe 5-15 seconds and then it
will stop (just like it is buffering) even though it still shows
"streaming" at the bottom near the progress bar.
I use satellite for internet connection and believe this is
the problem. I also have a dial-up account and the same exact
problem occurs when I try that method as well. Using my satellite,
my download speed is normally in the 250-600 kilobits per second
range so that shouldn't be a problem. What I'm wondering is, will
my system need to be uploading information to let the program know
to keep going? I have 2 systems (desktop & laptop) and the
problem is identical on both of them. I also took my laptop to my
local bank (with DSL connection) and the recorded classroom session
played without a hitch then.
Am I having a buffering problem or do I somehow need to
increase my upload speed? Any thoughts would be appreciated,

tried FireFox with the same sad results. I am running Windows XP on
both of my systems and have 512MB RAM and a P4 2.0GHz
processor.

Mine is not the fastest there is today... so when I'm rendering from video to DVD I just start the process and go to bed... and when I wake up in the morning, the job is done and the .ISO is ready to burn to DVD
Someday, when Windows 7 is at SP1 or SP2 and Premiere is certified for Win7 64bit, and the price of the Intel i7 has come down, I will build another computer for 4-6 times the speed I have now
I will, again, pick a motherboard that has good reviews (maybe another Intel... maybe Asus... maybe ???) and most likely another ATI video card (I have had better results with ATI -vs- nVidia) and I will NOT overclock the CPU or memory!!!

Premiere Pro CS6 Playback Keeps Freezing Then Programme Crashes

When I'm editing my playback freezes then Premiere stops responding and crashes, this is very annoying.
It normally happens when I m colour grading, but it can happen anywhen when I am editing.
I have an iMac with these stats:
Processor 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3

Oh really!? I thought they were alright, my computer handeled CS5 well. I have the creative suite installed but only use premiere, photoshop and after effects. Would only reinstalling the programes I use help?
My internal Macintosh HD is 999.35 GB with 958.89 GB of free space.
And an external HD which is used for time machine is 2TB with 1.06 GB free.
What you reckon I should do?

Capture playback is fast then slow

I have read similar posts, but no real answers.
I capture video from my mini dv camera and when i play the video back and try and edit it starts off too fast then slows to a crawl. When I stop the video it jumps back a few frames like it is jumping to a keyframe (it has no keyframes).
I am editing on a brand new mac pro. it is dual quad core with 6gb of ram. i can't imagine that the system can't keep up. i know people like to blame the graphics board, but i have 512mb of video ram. my pc with the same amount of video ram plays back just fine. my laptop with less video ram plays back just fine. I am using CS3
is there some setting i need to adjust?

Playback in Preview window stops after about 1 second

Hi,
When I hit the spacebar to view the clip in the preview window, the playback stops after about one second each time. It goes smoothly, then after one second, it stops. I can however drag the slider across the time line and there seems to be no problems.
I'm sure I have a powerful enough computer, so I don't think it's something to do with ram (I have 6 gig ram, Vista, triple core processor, good graphics card... brand new computer bought yesterday)
I'd appreciate help with this.

I'm not sure what you mean... I am importing from a DV tape which was recorded onto by a MiniDV Camera. When I plug in the camera to my fire wire, Windows gives me the options of AVI and WMV format (I am not sure which one to go with by the way, but WMV format seems clearer and 5 times smaller too.. why is that?)
Any ideas?

Any kind of video playback is choppy, eventually stops

So a couple weeks ago I dropped my macbook flat, upside down, from about 3 feet up, on a wooden floor. I died a little inside. Since then, it has been acting up. Any kind of video playback (html5, flash, quicktime, etc.) is great at the beginning, but then gets choppy, and eventually just comes to a stop. The weirdest part about this, is that I can avoid this, ONLY if I constantly move the cursor around while the video is playing! You all probably think I'm an idiot, but I have done extensive testing on this, and its definitely the mouse movement (trackpad or bluetooth mouse, either way), that keeps the video playing smoothly. As well as the video playback, my computer will sometimes not wake up from sleep, and when I do an emergency shutdown (hold the power button down til it shuts off), and fire it back up, it tells me to do another emergency shutdown, and will continue to do so until i remove the battery, replace it, and start it up again.
After this "behaviour" persisted for a few days, I did an erase and re-install of snow leopard (didn't make a difference), and I also removed/replaced my hard drive and ram, just for good measure.
Please, can someone tell me what the heck is going on, and maybe give me an idea of how much this is gonna cost me to fix (as I am clearly out of warrantee)?

This is all most unfortunate...from what I read in your post you have covered everything that can be done at your end....something is damaged on the Logic Board it sounds like...as to how much it would cost only the people that end repairing will know after it is diagnosed....take it in...tell them what you have found and tried so far...maybe that will help narrow down the problem...

Start playback and sync - MS stopped !

What i have:
AXIOM mark2 61
1. "play" button mapped to "Tape" -> "Playback" -> "Transport" -> "Play From Start" Playback plug-in
2. also same "play" button mapped to "Actions" -> "Play"
Today we start to play and some bug occured - 5 or 6 times music start to playing and then immediately stopped (it occur after mapping "2" - and was never before) is a half seconds of sound and then stop. But after 7 press - is started ok, and all other tries was good...
What i do wrong ? I need "Actions" -> "Play" for syncing. Only after "Actions"->"Play" all synthesisers get proper syncing with song start.. But now we sometimes get that bug :/

The basic issue here is that starting the Mainstage clock resets the audio engine, often resulting in glitches etc.
I would simply start the MS clock and leave it running, then trigger Playback from your controller as and when you need.
If you absolutely need MS clock to be completely in sync with Playback and any sync'd synths and fx, I would probably use two buttons (one starting MS Clock, the other Playbacks) and have the PB's set to play in sync with MS Clock (Bar), then start them 1 bar after I'd started MS Clock.

Playback randomly pauses or stops by itself????

Whenever I try to listen to my itunes library on my IMAC, the songs will randomly momentarily pause, or stop playing; but will resume playing 2-3 seconds after this happens. my library is on an external hard drive, and I have the most current version of ITUNES. What could be causing this? Is this happening to anyone else? suggestions? Please help, as you'd imagine it's extremely difficult trying to listen to your music when it keeps randomly "stop & play". Furthermore, I was thinking of buying an ipod, but if the same thing's gonna happen, I'd rather go back to CDs. Help ME!!

Select all the music on the external at once. Use Command+A to select everything.
Drag it into your itunes music library.
---If that doesn't work reselect all the music...
Hit Command+C to copy it and leave the originals on the external, Command+X to cut them instead of copy.
Create a folder on your desktop
Open it and hit command+V
Then drag and drop into your itunes library.

Playback in CS5.5 stops after a fraction of a second-why?

Just tried using Premiere CS5.5. I opened a CS5 project, but when I try to play any of the videos, either in the Source Monitor or Program monitor, the playback stops after a fraction of a second. It doesn't matter what point in what video I'm at. On the other had, scrubbing through the videos is no problem.
Does anyone have an idea what could be going on here? Needless to say, it's impossible to do any work within Premiere under these circumstances.

Auto analysing of Music Folder for 'gapless playback'. How to stop?

I have my music library on a portable HD which is connected to my old Quicksilver G4 via USB1.
It seems that after a period of being open, but not playing, iTunes takes it upon itself to start analysing my Music Folder for 'gapless playback', and certainly does it after I add anything to the Library.
This is annoying on 2 counts: I never asked for this to be done, and I couldn't care less about silence between songs! (3rd; I don't own an iPod)
Hitting the 'x' next to progress waiting for a break in the SBBOD isn't a good sign for a new app. C'mon Apple some of us still use USB1!
So, how to turn off auto analysis of my Music Folder?

Great idea! However, I actually need access to a Shared folder on that Mac (with correct permissions). You'll see from my screenshot above that the same folder appears twice, once with the proper shared volume icon (with full access and correct permissions), and once with the 'folder with red bar' icon without any access (and incorrect permissions).
I might try deleting all keychain entries relevant to that shared folder and see if that helps.
If anyone else has any ideas, they would be gratefully received.

Bug: Playback plug-in still stops when the Next Marker command is used

Fixed! That's what Apple said with 2.1.2 but the problem still remains. Has anyone figured out a workaround or reason?

This would be a HUGELY powerful feature for backing tracks if it worked.

Update: I can get this to work ok sometimes. My current thinking is that number of patches/songs affect things. I'll do more tests and report back. The CPU meter hardly moves but the memory meter is 50% gray and maybe 5% dark. (4GB memory on i7 iMac - samples are on FW Glypg HDD.

N78 Visual Radio problem - stops for 5 secs then r...

My Nokia N78 is showing some strange behavior lately.
When I listen to Visual Radio after about 2-3 mins of playback the sound completely stops for about 5 seconds then it starts again.
Any idea about what is causing this problem? Is it software or hardware related?

I have concluded that AppleTV has some proprietary air interface/DNS issues. But I have found two fixes.
1. Deploy an Apple Airport (Express) Access Point (AP) and use that it to connect both the the ATV and your IOS device. Whatever proprietary protocol WiFi issues exist with AppleTV, they are fixed when you use an Apple AP.
2. Hardwire the AppleTV using its Ethernet port. (Preferably use a fixed IP address vs DHCP). If the ATV is too far from your router to connect via a cable try using a D-Link (DHP-302) HPNA unit that uses the house electrical wiring create an ethernet LAN. (about $70). If you have Bell Canada's brilliant wireless Fibe TV service then your are in luck. There is an ethernet port at the back of each (Motorlola 2502) Set Top Box. Plug in your ATV and all will be fine.(hats off to CC)

Why does Soundbooth stop immediatly on playback

I have a Mac Pro 2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 32 GB memory. I've recently purchased and installed Adobe Master Collection CS4. After loading a mp3 track into Soundbooth CS4, I click the playback control and it stops every time after just a split second. I've tried changing the Audio Hardware settings, adjust the Buffer Size, starting up with shift key depressed to force replacing the default preferences. I've checked to see that "Continue audio playback in background" is selected and that the Default Device is correctly set. I've also renamed the Adobe>Preferences>2.0 folder and restarted to force new preference setting to no avail.
I tried the 5 stepsdescrived by _durin_ :
If you've got a few minutes, I'd like to find out the results of this test:
1. Close Soundbooth if it's open. Open Finder, and go to Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup and launch that.
2. In the menu bar, click Audio > Open Aggregate Device Editor
3. Click the "+" button to create a new Aggregate Device. Name it whatever you like and select the Built-in Output and Built-In Line Input as the two devices, then click Done.
4. launch Soundbooth, open the Preferences > Audio Hardware and change the selection to your new Aggregate Device. Click OK.
5. See if you can reproduce the behavior you experienced before.

except I was unable to creat a Aggregate Device. When I hit the "+" button, nothing happened. Is it supposed to pop-up a dialogue or something to create this Device?

Hi, I've got the same problem on my new iMac, and finally I think I was able to fix it.
1. First of all you must be connected as an administrator of the Mac.
2. Then you have to open the preferences window for the audio hardware (Adobe->Preferences->Audio Hardware)
3. Change the selection for Default Device (e.g. select System Default I/O)
4. Now it should work
Please note that after this action, it started to work even if I restore the previous default device. Moreover, now it works also if I start it without being an administrator. Hope this could help you.

YouTube Videos Stop Playing/Loading During Playback

Can anyone tell me how to fix my iPhone4? When viewing YouTube videos with the App over wifi, everything is good until after a random amount of playback, the download bar stops loading and the video stops playing. This happens on most videos.

I was about to post the same problem - many YouTube videos either won't start downloading to my iPhone 4 or download about 15% then stop. Here's an example of a video that won't start downloading:

I'm on a very fast cable internet link and ten feet from my Airport Extreme base station. I'm on iOS 4.3.3.
This happens on WiFi or 3G links, everything else works fine.
Recall that the original iPhone ads touted the ability to download and watch YouTube materials. Not so much anymore.

Playback stops after a second or two

My playback unexpectedly began to stop after only a second or two today. Fast forward stutters too. No change in the computer (except software updates). The file is OK as it plays fine on my laptop. Trashed preferences, restored Garageband from a previous time machine version, turned off my airport, all to no avail. Garageband is completely unusable on my G5 Tower at this point. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. Repairing permissions right now to see if it helps.

I had the same issues with playback stopping after a few seconds. It began happening in every project that I had.
I tried a vast number of things, changing mac settings, changing garageband settings, software update of garageband etc etc...
Nothing made any difference until late last night. I decided to make a brand new project with one simple recorded audio track to see if the problem would happen with the new project.
Playback worked fine in my new project and then when I checked my other projects, they all worked fine as well.
I don't know whether initialising a new project fixed things or whether it was a coincidence but the problem went away for me.
